The Greatest Existential Threats to Human Kind and its Solutions

    Chapter 2.1: The Ego

Chapter 2: On the Human MindIn Chapter 2.1, we turn inward and explore one of the most powerful forces shaping human behaviour: the ego.Building on the idea from Chapter 1 that humanity has made remarkable progress, we now ask a deeper question: if we are capable of such progress, what is it within us that still holds us back?Drawing on "Ego Is the Enemy" by Ryan Holiday, as well as broader perspectives on human nature, we discuss how the ego can both drive ambition and quietly undermine us — in our personal lives, in leadership, and on a global scale.Understanding the ego is a first step toward understanding the human mind, the very force that creates the challenges of our time, but also holds the key to solving them. Some of the books discussed in this chapter: Ryan Holiday - Ego is the EnemyRutger Bregman - HumanityEknath Easwaran - DhammapadaThe Hopeful Podcast explores the greatest threats facing humanity — and the solutions that could shape our future. If you enjoyed this episode, consider following the podcast and sharing it with others.

Chapter 1: Things are going well

It has been a long and exciting ride since the start of the existence of our species. If you really think about it and look at the stats, life as we have it right now, has never been better. However, a lot of people do not realise just how good we have it, and how much progress has been made in so many different areas. This knowledge is crucial to understand how well we can overcome challenges as humanity, which in turn brings hope for our future and the vast challenges we are facing. This is the first chapter of our series titled "the Hopeful Podcast", in which we would like to address the greatest threats to humanity and its solutions. Today, we discuss the thoughts of different thinkers of our time, many of whom seem to be in agreement that we have made remarkable progress. However, it is also recognised that some big challenges are ahead of us... -----Some of the books discussed in this chapter: Steven Pinker - Enlightenment NowHans Rosling - FactfulnessRutger Bregman - Utopia for RealistsRutger Bregman - HumanityYuval Noah Harari - Homodeus-----The Hopeful Podcast explores the greatest threats facing humanity — and the solutions that could shape our future. If you enjoyed this episode, consider following the podcast and sharing it with others.
