    Gary Beck

    We're back with a special Summer Time and the Livin's Easy episode! Join us as we chat with Dr. Gary Beck from ODU's Department of Communication & Theater Arts. Gary's a fun guy with a lot of positivity to share. We get into designing assignments to work with AI tools, the importance of keeping your course materials up to date, and the essential role that educators play in helping students "figure it all out."     A.J. Nolan

    Another episode, another spotlight on a talented ODU educator. AJ Nolan is a Senior Lecturer in ODU’s department of English, teaching general education composition and literature, creative writing, and upper-level literature courses. AJ is a writer with fiction and essays published in journals such as Flyway, Dogwood, Alligator Juniper, Gris-Gris, Hawai'i Pacific Review and the Potomac Review. AJ also marks our first interview with a travel guide author -- they've written books on sea kayaking in Virginia and in Maryland's Chesapeake Bay. Give it a listen and let us know what you think!

    Kate Hawkins

    This episode, we're talking to one of our favorite teachers (and people!) -- Dr. Kate Hawkins! Kate is a professor in the department of Communication and Theater Arts at ODU, where she teaches courses on health communication, communication and gender, among other topics. She recently returned to the classroom after spending 20 years in administration, including her last 5 as the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs & Strategic Initiatives at ODU. We'll talk about her return transition, her favorite assignments, and why we're all really bad at math!

Join us for a conversation with Dr. Brittany Suggs, Graduate Clinical Coordinator for the Department of Counseling and Human Services, Darden College of Education and Professional Studies.     Marc Ouellette

    On this episode, we sit down with Dr. Marc Ouellette, Associate Professor of English at ODU! Marc has widely published and taught on digital writing, posthumanism, technology, gaming, popular culture, and other topics. He's also the winner of ODU's inaugural Monarch Pillar of Innovation & Excellence. He talks mentoring, lessons learned from his father, and the importance of letting students know, "You belong."

    Remica Bingham-Risher

    For this episode we talk to Remica Bingham-Risher, Director of Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) Initiatives at Old Dominion University. A talented creative writer in her own right, Remica talks with us about how she teaches ODU faculty how to teach on topics related to the current QEP, "Pursue Truth: Read Responsibly. Think Critically." This is a fun episode, and you'll love listening to her talk about her teaching inspirations and how she stays inspired when things get tough!

Our guest is Alison Lietzenmayer, Master Lecturer in Communication and Director of Senior Experience and Leadership for the Department of Communications and Theater Arts at Old Dominion University. Alison also serves as Director of Faculty Development for the Monarch Humanities Internship Academy for ODU. We are featuring our conversation with Dr. Jay O'Toole, Associate Professor of Management and PhD Program Coordinator in ODU’s Strome College of Business. Jay's done a little bit of everything, from teaching math in public schools, to founding a nonprofit organization, to being a consultant and entrepreneur. He is a 2022 recipient of Strome College of Business's Outstanding Teaching Award, and one of the most dedicated and thoughtful teachers we know.
