PPH- Offshore On Our Mind
Join our guests Helen Rose Patterson of the National Wildlife Federation and Jenny Netherton of the Southeastern Wind Coalition as we discuss the timeline and steps necessary to develop offshore wind energy resources in the Gulf - from constructing the wind turbines to hooking them up to the grid; all while providing great jobs to Louisiana workers. There are currently only seven offshore wind turbines operating in the United States. Upcoming offshore leases in the Gulf are set to kick off a boom of development, but it will take 7 to 10 years to get any turbines up and running. Helen Rose and Jenny talk about the steps we need to take do now to ensure that Louisiana continues to leverage our experience in offshore innovation.National Wildlife Federation: offshorewind.nwf.orgSoutheastern Wind Coalition: sewind.orgThe Alliance is Louisiana's only dedicated Watchdog working to ensure equitable, affordable, and environmentally responsible energy policy for ALL Louisiana energy consumers. This episode, join co-host Sophi Zaken and our guests Jackson Voss and Logan Burke as we kick off Louisiana's legislative season. Jackson fills us in on the structure, opportunities, and weaknesses of Louisiana's legislature, and what we can expect to see during this tax and budget focused fiscal session. PPH- Louisiana Utility Watchdog
Loyola New Orleans College of Law students and current interns at The Alliance Carrie Ann Decote and Brenna Landis join our hosts to talk about their ongoing project and the group they founded, Louisiana Utility Watchdog. LA Utility Watchdog helps ratepayers understand the complex process of engaging with the Louisiana Public Service Commission (LPSC), the body that regulates most utilities in Louisiana. Carrie Ann and Brenna tell us about the virtual Community Dialogue they hosted, featuring special guests Davante Lewis, the LPSC's recently elected District 3 Commissioner, and Representative Matthew Willard, District 97. Attendees learned about the Securitization Act, one of the reasons why Louisiana ratepayers are paying for Entergy's failed infrastructure (to the tune of $4.7 billion!), and the systemic power imbalances that have led to this issue.
