Ep 37: Finding Community with Moana 2
We watched Moana 2 in theaters and are here to give our thoughts about it. And do we have THOUGHTSMoana 2 was originally written as a series and was changed to a theatrical release partway through production. In our opinion, you can tell that it was a series converted to a movie. While the artistry and the screenplay really conveyed a beautiful story of finding and building community, there was a lot that fell flat in this for us. All of our thoughts, commentary, and complaints are in this episode.Mix yourself a Motunui Sunset and sail off into the unknown with us.Follow us on socials @pixietwistpodMusic: https://www.purple-planet.com

Ep 36: The Kindness and Sass of Cinderella
Cinderella is a princess known for her kindness and grace. From balancing trays on her head while walking up stairs and collecting laundry to the kindness she shows even to the smallest creatures, we all know and love it. Something that is less realized is the subtle sass she gives when necessary. In this episode with special guest Virginia from Where I Long to Be Podcast, we discuss the range that she has, as well as where the Prince was, and also Piff rants about how Cindy is one of the princesses who is most often (and WRONGLY) talked badly about. This is a long one, so pour yourself a Glass Slipper Martini and tuck in for all of our shenanigans.Follow Virginia Here:Websitehttps://whereilongtobepodcast.comApple Podcastshttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/where-i-long-to-be-a-magical-trip-report-podcast/id1680425867Spotifyhttps://open.spotify.com/show/6KNmfzYjZvVHWgIJc1j72G?si=DBKHWqW9QxCyL0YJ0YhSuwAnd don't forget to follow us anywhere @pixietwistpod

Ep 35: Death and Belly Shirts and Moana
This week, we are joined by our friend Jill to chat all things Moana, including the constant death talk and the fact that Common Sense Media lists that her midriff is showing as a potential concern. Millennials had Jasmine and Gen Z has Moana. Other topics include the voice actor who plays Hei Hei, the Little Mermaid (I swear it makes sense), and if that vision was really happening or not. Ep 34: Hades is a Poor Planner
On this episode, we sit down with Austin from "The Magic of Mayhem" to discuss the myth, the legend, the Disney animated movie: Hercules! Throughout this episode, we discuss our collective love for this movie, how long Hercules was really training, and all of Hades terrible plans. From the very beginning, Hades plans are really sus, and they do not get better, he does not improve. Pour yourself a Golden God, cuddle a Pegasus, and join us! Make sure to follow Austin everywhere! Ep 33: No Parenting Awards for the McCallisters
In this quintessential 90s movie, an 8 year old boy is left home alone. No one notices until their entire extended family is on an airplane to Paris and then burglars are thwarted by the shenanigans of a child. This is our Home Alone episode! We discuss everything that went wrong for Kevin to be left alone, which burglar we would rather be, and the logistics of getting back to Chicago from Paris. Pour yourself a cocktail that will leave you feeling like you were hit in the face with an iron the next morning, and join us for this festive movie! Ep 32: Jack and Sally are Not #Goals
To perfectly sandwich the Halloween to Christmas transition, we brought out friend Jill on to talk about her favorite movie of all time, The Nightmare Before Christmas. And while Sav and Jill both are obsessed with this movie, Piff isn't the biggest fan. We discuss different aspects that we love (and hate), the artistry behind the claymation, and the one thing that we can all agree on, that Jack and Sally's "love story" does not exist in this film. Come along for the chaos of deciphering the holiday doors with a "What's This" martini on this nostalgic journey. Follow the podcast everywhere @pixietwistpod Music: https://www.purple-planet.com

Ep 31: Max is Not Powerline
In this episode, we are joined by one of Piff's oldest friends and fellow Disney lover, Tori to discuss one of her childhood favorites, A Goofy Movie. This was the first time Piff had seen it and the list of things that surprised her was extensive, and included the fact that it is a musical, the fact that Max isn't Powerline, and the fact that the plot wasn't about Max becoming a famous rockstar. We paired this chaos with a Powerline cocktail courtesy of the blog Reel Fancy Dinners. So grab a glass and join us as we go on a road trip across the country. Ep 30: The Perfect Hamlet But With Lions
Today, we are sitting down with Cedric Gegel, an actor, writer, director, and my childhood best friend’s little brother to discuss, what he calls “A Perfect Film”, The Lion King. This year also celebrates 30 years since the movie's release, which felt perfect for our 30th episode. From dynamic cinematic choices to the utter lack of cheetahs in this movie to which animals Cedric could not beat in a fight (spoiler: it’s most of them), this episode has it all. Pour yourself a pineapple cocktail, say Hakuna Matata, and join us on this journey! Make sure you follow Cedric everywhere and check out some of his latest projects linked below! Ep 29: Lessons from a Rat: Ratatouille
There are a lot of lessons to be learned from Disney Pixar's Ratatouille, the most popular is obviously that a great cook can come from anywhere. But there are also less popular lessons like "don't steal" and "a glass of wine is the solution". All of this and more was discussed when I sat down with Caitlin to discuss Ratatouille. From Hallucination Gusteau (HG) to the use of weaponry and violence in Disney films, we discuss it all as we drink the wine from our homes. Ep 28: All that Physical Labor made Quasimodo Buff
The Hunchback of Notre Dame was originally a novel by Victor Hugo, the same man who brought us Les Misérables. In 1996, Disney took this story and made it into a movie, and that is what we are discussing today. From the intention behind Quasimodo's name to Frollo's obsession with Esmeralda, we discuss our way through the movie with a spooky purple cocktail. Grab a glass and join us! Ep 27: Caramel Apples and the Much Needed Spin Offs
This week, Kari is back to discuss the sequel to the cult classic, Hocus Pocus. In this episode, we discuss the true victim of this movie, Mayor Traske, who just wanted to enjoy his caramel apple in his pumpkin sweater but was consistently thwarted. We also decide that we need a buddy cop spin off with Billy during his 29 years of accidental consciousness, because what else was he doing???This movie was the over the top, exaggerated, campy vibes that we loved in the original, brought to life more intentionally almost three decades later. In honor of Mayor Traske, we paired this with a Spiced Caramel Apple. So pour one out for him, and then make a second to enjoy with us! Ep 25: Luca's Childhood Summers
Luca is a coming of age movie that came out at the beginning of 2021. During a time when lockdowns were still happening in some places and the freedom of childhood seemed far away. Luca was the most-watched streaming film of 2021, with over 10.6 billion minutes viewed. However, Sav and I both watched it for the first time for this podcast. This movie, about finding yourself and your friends over a summer, stole the hearts of many. In this episode, we discuss the overarching themes, the balance between loving your kids and keeping them safe, and trusting your friends will be there when we fall. Ep 24: The Power of Kindness with Cinderella
A star studded cast, a powerful message, stunning visuals. This is the 2015 Live Action remake of Cinderella. This was the OG Princess live action and it is one of the best ones because instead of a scene by scene remake, the creators did a lot of reimagining of the story. We discuss everything from why this is one of Piff's favorite princesses to the historical fairy tale (did you know this isn't based on the Grimm's story) and everything in between. Pour yourself a glass of Relax Riesling and join us on this emotional journey. Music: https://www.purple-planet.com

Ep 23: The Logical and Horrible Adults of the Cheetah Girls (Part 2)
In the second part of our Cheetah Girls episode, we spend a lot of time talking about the adults in this movie. From how surprisingly sleazy we finally saw Jackal to be (how did we miss that as teenagers) to the way that the parents were parenting the crap out of these situations. Watching this movie as adults really opened our eyes to things that we didn't catch or understand as kids, but it also gave us newfound respect for how certain situations were handled. Ep 22: Our Own Cheetah Girls Lore (Part 1)
The Cheetah Girls was a millennial girl's childhood staple. These four high schoolers with their own flair and affinity for cheetah spots took us by storm. In this special guest episode, Piff is sitting down with one of her college friends to discuss the special place this movie has in our hearts. We also go down a few rabbit holes assigning lore to various characters, such as what each cheetah would drink once they hit the adult scene, how the moms knew each other, and what jackal's intentions really were. This is just part 1 of our cheetah girls chatter, so make sure you subscribe so you know when the next part is out! Ep 21: Appreciating the Little Things with Rapunzel
It's Sav's birthday!!! So to celebrate, we are covering her favorite Disney movie, to the point where she has a tattoo for it, Tangled! In this episode, we discuss everything from the ineptitude of the palace guards to fan theories that Maximus might've been a human before he was a horse. This 2010 film stole the hearts of kids and adults alike, and we will discuss our own love for it, as well as things that mostly go unnoticed. Ep 20: Anastasia and the Great Value Demons
In this week's episode, we are heading to Russia and then Paris with Anastasia! There are two things that we know this movie has: (1) demons that really weren't worth the entire cost of your soul and (2) a timeline that doesn't really make sense. This childhood favorite of millennials across the world was originally produced by 20th Century Fox. But seeing as Disney now owns it, the age old fight over Anastasia as a Disney princess has been solved. Come along as we discuss the historical context, the questionable motives of everyone involved, and just how long it would take to travel from St. Petersburg to Paris. All this while drinking a White Russian and celebrating Sav's birthday month. Pour yourself something strong to make it through the Russian winters, and join us in the nostalgia! Ep 19: The Sidekicks of Treasure Planet
Disney's experimental age is full of great movies and duds. From experiment 626 to the most expensive flop, the movies are varied and interesting. This week, we are tackling yet another experimental movie, Treasure Planet! This space take on Treasure Island came out in 2002, right in the middle of the experiments. The animators used three different types of animation/technology to create this movie, which jacked up the price and made it less visually smooth. Mistakes aside, this is a fun movie, with interesting characters, and the best sidekicks, potentially ever. From Morph to B.E.N. and all of the villainous crew members, this cast is full of *character. Pour yourself a Wrecked Pirate and tune in as we make our way to Treasure Planet! Ep 17: Thank You for the Hot Prince - Little Mermaid Live Action
For our very first live action movie, we are changing up the format. We will discuss the plot of The Little Mermaid when we cover the animated version, but for this, we want to talk about how the live action stood up. We are discussing cinematography, casting, special effects, costuming, the music, and our overall thoughts on this film as an adaptation. As well as a full tangent about the attractiveness of different cartoon characters within the disney universe. Pour yourself a glass of your favorite beverage and hang out under the sea with us. Ep 16: What is the Historical Context of Robin Hood?
We hope you are ready for a disney drunk history lesson! This week, we have a special guest to discuss her favorite movie, Robin Hood! Tori comes on with the historical context that the movie is based around, some Robin Hoods through the ages, and some great fun facts. Ep 15: The Great Mouse (and Human) Detectives
This week, we are delving into one of Sav's childhood favorites, The Great Mouse Detective! This movie takes Sherlock Holmes classic iconography and adapts it to a talking mouse world. Both Basil and Dawson have personalities that mirror Sherlock and Watson, and then the game is afoot. Throughout this episode, while gushing about the premise, we discuss the villain songs, the success rate for this evil plan, how the different animals are able to or not able to speak clearly to each other, and the Sherlock Holmes nods. We both love this movie, so grab a glass of Rodent's Delight (or basically whatever you really enjoy drinking) and join us! Music: https://www.purple-planet.com

Ep 14: Alice & the Chaos of Wonderland
This episode was supposed to come out on 4/20, which we thought was fitting because it only really makes sense if you are drunk or high. This is one of our more tangent heavy episodes, but it's Alice in Wonderland, nothing else would make sense. Topics include re-occurring dreams, the logic of a 10 year old, and the pieces of this movie that stuck with us through the years. Pour yourself some spiked tea or arnold palmer (or if it is legal in your area, blaze it) and tune in for this wild journey. Music: https://www.purple-planet.com

Ep 13: Sassy Aladdin and Jasmine Is Smarter than Everyone
In this week's episode, we are heading to Agrabah, where we will encounter daring escapes, an orphan in disguise, and a magic lamp. This is our Aladdin episode! While Piff had only seen the live action before this and Sav is a cartoon purist, we are discussing the cartoon primarily. Among the topics we cover are the plethora of comedic relief moments, how the Cave of Wonders works, our Disney Dreamlight Valley playing experiences, and Jasmine being both a bada** and the smartest person in this plotline. Ep 12: Don't Sleep on Elemental
Welcome to Element City! All are welcome here, but only some are actually able to enjoy it. This 2023 movie was pushed under the rug by most. Part of that is due to the release timing, it hit theaters right when the SAG-AFTRA strike started, and part of that was due to the marketing that was done. For a movie that discusses really important themes like assimilation, immigration, race, and class in an accessible way for children, it was marketed as a star crossed lovers story. And while there is an element (you see what we did there) of romance to the overall plot, this movie is about so much more. If you haven't seen it, we highly recommend watching, and if you have, grab a Tequila Sunrise and join us! Music: https://www.purple-planet.com

Ep 11: Frozen (PART 2), the Magic System, Crazy Families and Acts of True Love
Welcome to part two of our guest episode on Frozen! In part two, Elsa reveals her ice powers, and we discuss the intricacies of her magic. From creating life and clothing to the way the act of true love occurred, we dive deep into the mechanics. Would eliminating her end the winter? How much agency do her lifeforms have? And did Anna have to participate in the act of true love for it to work? Additional topics discussed include the laundry list of Disney kinks, falling to your doom, introducing your significant other to your family, and the use of color throughout the film. Pour yourself a drink and snuggle in to discuss Frozen!

Ep 10: Frozen (PART 1), Female Friendships, and Dating Narcissists
Welcome to our first two part episode and our first guest episode! We are joined by friend and fellow Disney adult, Caitlin, to discuss her favorite movie, Frozen! We ended up recording for over two hours, so we decided to split this between two episodes instead of cutting out some very good analysis and discussion. Some of the topics in part one include additional representation for different types of girls, the Hans effect (aka we've all dated someone who displays narcissistic traits), and who the heck was running this kingdom in the three years between their parents' deaths and Elsa becoming of age. Pour yourself an amaretto sour and hug your sister, as we discuss Frozen!

Ep 9: Sleeping Beauty and the Two Brain Cells
A failed cocktail, an upcoming Disney trip, and a kingdom where there are maybe 2 brain cells in use at any one point. This is our Sleeping Beauty episode!
