Episode 251:  The S&P500 is up 20% since last November’s Presidential election and volatility has been extremely muted with no more than a 3% pullback all year.  The market since 2009 has been extremely resilient, regardless of an Obama or Trump administration.  Over the past 18 months, global markets have also shown growth. Episode 249:  In this episode we’ll discuss the IMPORTANCE of the Federal Reserve’s plan to unwind their $4.5 trillion balance sheet.  An old adage on Wall Street is, “don’t fight the Fed.”   Truer words were never spoken.  Fed policy is one of the most critical factors that affects the economy and the stock market.  Unwinding the Fed’s unprecedented balance sheet should be of interest to any serious investor. Episode 241:  Will interest rates regress to their mean?  Yes, eventually when the Federal Reserve and other central banks end their intervention. BUT…the important question is:  What mean? Understanding negotiation techniques is extremely important, if for no other purpose than these two reasons: You are compensated to the degree you can negotiate. By recognizing negotiation techniques you can prevent yourself from being taken advantage of. Episode 208:  The stock market has been in a long consolidation trend for about the past 24 months.  If you have been using a buy & hold strategy over that timeframe your total annual S&P500 return (including dividends) is probably less than 3%. Episode 184:  In 2015 the market was supported by a handful of stocks, namely FAANG- FaceBook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix & Google.  Now only Facebook and Amazon remain above their 50dma. Just like last year, the indexes appear stable although many leading names are well off their 52 week highs.  Sector rotation is switching from “safe stocks” like Utilities & Consumer Staple to a weekly favored sector and then back to “safe”. Episode 167:  Today the S&P500 closed near support at 1850, which is my delineation between the likelihood of a Correction or a full blown Bear market. (see:  http://www.investablewealth.com/correction-or-bear/   ) We’ll have to wait and see how this works itself out.  Now is not the time to panic, a prudent investor would have already taken precautions.  In this episode I draw the analogy of checking the flashlight batteries before the lights go out.
