In this episode, Matthew Mann (Head of Greater Manchester Training Hub) explains the work of the Greater Manchester Training Hub, and how they can support practices and Primary Care Networks to develop their workforce and bring new talented people into the NHS.

Mr Chris Lewis, from Greater Manchester Training Hub and an expert in coaching and mentorship talks about how mentorship helps NHS enjoy their job and progress in their careers. 

Joanne Mellars, Practice Education Facilitator, from the Greater Manchester Training Hub, talks about how easy it can be for practices to take a student nurse on placement and the benefits this brings to their education.

Connor Hilton, Placement co-ordinator for the Greater Manchester Training Hub describes which clinical students are looking for and will benefit from a placement in primary care. He details the processes to have a student attached to your practice or PCN and highlights the educational grants which accompany them.

Eva Richardson, Greater Manchester POD nurse explains her role in supporting a wide range of Primary care staff to improve their clinical skills and gain qualifications. By accessing free training and mentorship support, admin staff become competent in basic clinical skills and established nurses of all grades expand their roles.

Dr Susan Harris, Clinical Lecturer at the University of Manchester explains how GPs and their practices can help teach Medical Students. She outlines the multiple opportunities in practice and in ’the classroom’ and highlights the generous bursaries which are paid to support this important work.

Dr Richard Bircher, a Clinical Workforce Lead in Greater Manchester, gives an outline of the NHS long Term Workforce Plan and how this may start to shape the way UK Primary Care will work in the future.

Gill Pilkington, who works as a Clinical Placement Development Officer for the Greater Manchester Integrated Care Board, describes how NHS nursing and other staff can access the ‘CPD’ training budget, to pay for courses and qualifications.  

Dr Alex Eaton, GP Training Programme Director and Associate GP Dean, explains the process to become a GP trainer and on the way gathering qualifications to supervise Foundation Doctors in primary care.
