Diana and I discuss how this approach can make a significant difference, especially for high achievers who often find themselves burned out by rigid schedules and endless to-do lists. The conversation highlights the importance of slowing down internally to maximize efficiency and effectiveness in every part of life. The PRODUCE Method: A Guide to Intuitive ProductivityDiana introduces her innovative PRODUCE method, an acronym that guides you through prioritizing tasks, reducing distractions, and operating within your prime energy window, just to name the first three.Real-Life Applications and Personal InsightsI share with Diana my own personal journey from corporate burnout to finding my rhythm by creating a schedule that aligns with my energy peaks and valleys. Diana adds depth to the discussion by sharing practical tools like binaural beats meditations and essential oils, which can enhance focus and productivity. The Importance of Saying “No”One of the key challenges addressed in the conversation is the difficulty many women face in saying “no.” Diana encourages practicing the art of saying “no” to maintain integrity and ensure that your yes really means something. Discovering Mindfulness and Embodiment with Dr. Alice Rizzi

On the latest episode of the Productive AF Podcast, I welcome Dr. Alice Rizzi, a licensed psychologist and mindfulness coach, to discuss the transformative power of mindfulness and embodiment. As a specialist in cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness, Alice shares invaluable insights into breaking free from stress and fostering sustainable change. This conversation is a treasure trove of practical advice for anyone looking to enhance their mental well-being and productivity.Introduction to Mindfulness and Dr. Rizzi’s JourneyAlice Rizzi is the heart behind Together Mindful, a practice focused on empowering women to live authentically and aligned with their values. She began her journey during the pandemic, starting her private practice in New York and providing telehealth services in Florida. The isolation of the lockdown period during the Covid-19 pandemic was a turning point where Alice realized the power of mindfulness, leading her to create a business centered around it.Understanding Mindfulness and EmbodimentAlice describes mindfulness as a superpower that helps manage anxiety, depression, and improve attention. Her journey with mindfulness began in her undergraduate years, highlighting how it helped her manage her social anxiety and quirks. She defines embodiment as living in the present with awareness, acceptance, and curiosity. As a mindfulness and embodiment coach, she assists individuals in living according to their core values.Mindfulness in Daily LifeMindfulness isn’t limited to meditation; it can be integrated into daily life, as Alice explains. Whether it’s during a walk or doing mundane chores, mindfulness involves being present in the moment. For listeners hesitant to meditate due to restlessness, she offers relatable advice: start with small, mindful practices like paying attention to each moment through your senses.Navigating Transitions with MindfulnessLife transitions such as perimenopause and neurodivergence can be overwhelming. alice and I discuss how mindfulness can decrease reactivity, helping individuals pause and choose responses aligned with their values. This practice fosters patience and resilience, crucial for navigating life’s ups and downs.Embracing Core ValuesIdentifying core values is foundational for personal change, as both Alice and I shared. We discuss how a misalignment with these values can lead to stress and burnout. Alice introduces a core values assessment and encourages individuals to live in alignment with what matters most to them. This awareness facilitates intentional decision-making and enhances overall well-being.Overcoming Overwhelm with Micro ActionsFor those feeling paralyzed by overwhelm, Alice introduces her “Get It Done Week” sprint. This initiative encourages participants to tackle pending tasks with psychology-informed strategies. By addressing underlying fears and taking small, actionable steps, individuals can overcome obstacles and make steady progress toward their goals. The Power of CommunityCommunity is central to Alice’s work, offering a supportive space for growth. She highlights the importance of being surrounded by like-minded individuals who inspire growth and success. For women embracing their multi-passionate nature, community provides a nurturing environment to explore diverse interests and rise together.Final Thoughts & ResourcesIn conclusion, Alice Rizzi’s message is one of empowerment and self-trust. She reminds listeners that they are enough, encouraging them to embrace their journeys with compassion. For those seeking to deepen their mindfulness practice or uncover their core values, Alice’s resources, including her Mindful Mavens community, offer invaluable support. To connect with Alice and access her resources, visit her at www.dralicerizzi.com, Together Mindful or her YouTube channel. To view and download the free Reflection Series I mention in the podcast, please follow this link: If I Were Starting Again Reflection Series, Feb 5-28, a free event featuring 17 business owners as they reflect on what they’d do differently.I also recently recorded an episode on Ayla's podcast "Not That Kind of CEO" where we dig into what happens when mompreneurs try to operate like high-level executives without the support systems those roles actually have. We talk about the physical cost of pushing through stress, why boundaries feel selfish, and how to redesign your systems so you're not constantly falling apart. If this resonates, give it a listen. And if you’re wondering how I record and edit my podcasts and longform videos, here’s my secret: Descript. Designing a New Path: How Canva Verified Expert Melissa LeMay Turned a Side Hustle into a Full Time Business

TL;DR: If you’ve ever wondered how to turn creativity into cash—or felt overwhelmed by the tech side of content creation—this episode is for you. Canva Verified Expert Mélissa LeMay shares her journey from corporate burnout to creative entrepreneur, plus actionable tips to help you work smarter (not harder) with Canva.🎙️ Episode HighlightsIn this episode:* How a single “no” at work sparked Mélissa’s leap into entrepreneurship* The real story behind becoming a Canva Verified Expert (hint: it’s about more than pretty graphics)* Practical strategies for using Canva to build your brand and your confidence* Why brand kits and folders are every creator’s secret weapon* How to stand out in a “saturated” market by serving your niche* The power of supportive communities (and where to find them)* What Canva Pro unlocks for your business—and when it’s worth it* A behind-the-scenes look at the Canva Template CollectiveFrom Corporate Boundaries to Creative FreedomWhen Mélissa LeMay was denied time off for her son’s school event, she realized her 9-to-5 wasn’t working for her life anymore. She took the leap, seeking a career that offered both flexibility and fulfillment. Like many of us, Mélissa started as a virtual assistant—until her knack for design (and love of Canva) opened a new door.Building a Business with CanvaWhat began as a side hustle—helping others with Canva projects—quickly grew into Graphic Maven, Mélissa’s full-time business. Her work didn’t just make things look pretty; it helped entrepreneurs turn creativity into real income. In 2018, Mélissa became a Canva Certified Creative (now Canva Verified Expert), joining a select group shaping Canva’s future features and educating the next wave of creators.Pro Tips for Canva Newbies (and the Canva-Curious)Mélissa’s advice for beginners? Start simple.* Minimalism wins: Don’t overcomplicate your designs.* Templates are your friend: They save time and keep your brand consistent.* Brand kits = game changer: Set up your colors and fonts once to streamline every project.* Folders keep you sane: Organize your assets so you never lose that perfect graphic again.* Find your people: Supportive communities make learning (and growing) so much easier. Is Canva Pro Worth It?While the free version of Canva is powerful, Mélissa shares how Canva Pro can supercharge your workflow—think background removal, more elements, and advanced brand kit features. For side-hustlers and business owners, it’s often a smart investment.Standing Out in a Crowded MarketWorried there’s too much competition? Mélissa busts the myth of “saturation.” The secret is quality, not quantity—and focusing on the unique needs of your audience. That’s how she’s built a thriving membership and community through the Canva Template Collective. Why Community MattersMélissa’s Canva Template Collective isn’t just about templates—it’s about ongoing support, feedback, and the kind of creative “bestie” energy that helps entrepreneurs thrive. (You’ll hear why community is at the heart of every successful business!)💡 My Takeaway as HostAs someone who only discovered Canva in the past couple of years, I can vouch for the power of starting messy and learning as you go. My biggest “aha”? You don’t need to be a designer to build a brand you’re proud of—you just need the right tools, a little support, and the courage to show up imperfectly.📚 Ready to Build Your Canva Confidence? If you’re feeling inspired by Mélissa’s journey but still a little unsure about where to start, I’ve got you!I created the Canva Confidence ebook for humans just like us—those who want to design with less stress, more joy, and zero shame. Reflection Before 2026 Planning: Who You're Becoming in Your Second Act

The Year Everything Changed (And Why That Matters Before 2026)At the start of 2025, I was living a double life.On the surface, I had it all figured out. Successful corporate career. Stable paycheck. The kind of resume that looks impressive on LinkedIn. But underneath? I was exhausted, insecure, and wrapped so tightly in other people’s expectations that I’d lost sight of who I actually was.My third marriage had been separated for several years. I felt like a failure. And I was trying to build a business on nights and weekends while working a full-time job that was draining every ounce of my energy. Then something shifted. My husband and I started talking again. Really talking. For the first time in 5+ years, we actually listened to each other. We had worked on ourselves individually. We learned how to communicate in ways that actually worked. And we realized something that seemed impossible: we wanted the same things. We shared the same values. We could actually make this work. That reconciliation was the catalyst for everything. It clarified what was actually important to me. It shifted my priorities in a way that no goal-setting exercise ever could. And it gave me permission to make the biggest decision of my life: I quit my corporate career. Not because I failed. Not because I gave up. But because I finally understood that I couldn’t build the life I wanted while living someone else’s schedule. I couldn’t become the person I was meant to be while trying to be the person my employer needed me to be.So I became a full-time homemaker and entrepreneur. And everything changed.Who I Was vs. Who I’m BecomingAt the start of 2025, most of my identity was wrapped up in my corporate title and my role as a mother. I was insecure. I was unhealthy. I was overweight. And I carried the weight of three failed marriages like a scarlet letter.Today? I’m confident. I’m happy. I’m a wife, a mother, and an entrepreneur building something that’s entirely mine. But here’s the thing: that transformation didn’t happen because I made a New Year’s resolution or found the perfect productivity system. It happened because I got honest about what was actually working in my life and what wasn’t.And that’s why reflection matters so much before you jump into 2026 planning. Most of us skip the reflection part. We’re so eager to move forward, to set new goals, to become “new” versions of ourselves, that we forget to ask: What actually worked this year? What did I learn? Who did I become? If you do that, you’ll be building your 2026 on a foundation that might not even fit who you are anymore. The Consistency Pattern That Changed EverythingIn 2025, I noticed something powerful: my health is directly connected to my consistency. When I followed the healthy habits my medical team recommended—consistently—my health markers improved. Everything got easier. My energy increased. My mood stabilized. My ability to execute on my other goals became effortless. But the moment I got complacent? The moment I stopped being consistent? I backslid. Fast. That taught me something crucial: my health has to be my #1 priority now. Not my business. Not my goals. Not my productivity. My health.Because when I take consistently good care of myself, executing on everything else becomes so much easier. This is what we talk about in this week’s post, “Consistency Without Shame: Review 2025 Like a Kind Boss.” It’s not about being perfect. It’s not about doing everything every day. It’s about noticing the patterns—where you showed up, where you fell off, what that reveals about your actual priorities. And then making small adjustments, not total overhauls. The Small Wins That Prove You’re CapableI almost overlooked this one, but I’m so proud of it: I fully embraced AI as an amplification and productivity tool. That might not sound like a big deal. But for someone who’s 50+ and worried about being “too old” to learn new things? It was huge. It proved to me that I’m not stuck. I’m not limited by my age or my background. I can learn. I can grow. I can do more than I previously thought possible. That’s the kind of small win that compounds into big changes. Not the Instagram-worthy achievements. The quiet ones. The ones that build your confidence and prove to yourself that you’re capable of more than you believed. What’s Coming This WeekThis next week, we’re diving into clarity. Real clarity. Not the fluffy “find your passion” kind, but the practical, honest kind: What actually worked for you in 2025? What can you build on?And then we’re celebrating Real AF Wins—and we want to hear yours. We’re inviting our community to share one win from 2025 that they almost overlooked. Because progress over perfection means celebrating the small stuff.Your TurnBefore you dive into 2026 planning, I want to ask you: Who were you at the start of 2025? Who are you now? No jargon, no perfection—just actionable steps and transparent storytelling so you can see yourself in the journey.Authentic ProductivityAs I often say, productivity isn’t about doing more, it’s about doing what matters (and letting the rest go). I stripped away the Instagram gloss and shared the routines, the pivots, and the missteps—because that’s where real growth happens. You saw my actual systems, the tools I use, and the moments when things fell apart (and how I reset). I wanted you to know that authentic productivity means embracing your strengths, finding what works for your brain, and giving yourself permission to iterate. Progress over perfection, always—because that’s how you build momentum that lasts. What you also saw in the videos was a no-glam me. Just my real hair texture, minimal makeup, sitting at my real desk. People connect with the real you, not an AI-generated or highly filtered version of you. You don’t need a fancy set up - just your real self talking to your phone camera. The focus should be on your message, not perfection.Empowered MindsetMindset isn’t just a module in my courses or a chapter in an e-book—it’s woven into everything I do. Throughout the series, I spoke candidly about the doubts, the setbacks, and the self-talk that tried to hold me back. But I also showed how I reframed those moments, practiced self-compassion, and chose to keep going—even (especially!) when it was messy. My hope is that you saw not just my own resilience, but the practical ways you can build yours, too. Empowerment, to me, means owning your story, celebrating your lived experience, and believing that you are worthy of clarity, consistency, and calm.Consistency with EaseForget hustle culture—consistency can feel light, flexible, and even joyful. In these episodes, I took you behind the scenes of my Miracle Month Planner and daily routines, showing how I build habits that work for real life (not just for Instagram). I emphasized that consistency isn’t about rigid schedules or all-or-nothing thinking. It’s about creating gentle, sustainable rhythms that support you—especially on the hard days. My goal was to prove that with the right tools and a little self-kindness, you can show up for yourself (and your goals) with way less stress and way more ease.Wellness & Self-CareAnother thing you will often hear be say is “you can’t pour from an empty cup.” Throughout the series, I opened up about the routines and rituals that help me recharge—especially as a woman navigating perimenopause, solo entrepreneurship, and all the life stuff in between.Whether it was my morning walks, non-negotiable rest days, or the little self-care “micro-wins” I celebrate (thanks to my Miracle Month Planner), I wanted you to see that productivity isn’t just about doing more. It’s about feeling good in your own skin, honoring your energy, and giving yourself permission to pause.Real AF Wins & CommunityOne of the most powerful parts of this series? Hearing from YOU. Every DM, comment, and story you shared about your own pivots, routines, and messy progress became a highlight reel in itself.I spotlighted some of your wins during the series (with permission, of course!), because this community is built on celebrating each other—not just me. Your breakthroughs, your questions, your “aha!” moments—they’re what make Productive AF a movement, not just a brand.Tools, Templates & ResourcesYou know I’m all about making things actionable. Every episode featured a peek into the actual tools and templates I use to keep my life and business running (and yes, sometimes barely held together—because #realAF).From the Miracle Month Planner to my daily checklists, habit trackers, and Notion dashboards, I wanted you to see that you don’t need fancy systems. You just need a few simple, neuro-friendly resources that actually work for the way your brain works. Missed the tools? Grab the Miracle Month Planner free [here] and get a taste of what’s possible.TakeawayIf your audience isn’t connecting with your offers, try inviting them into your world. Pull back the curtain. Let them see the real you—your journey, your process, your pivots. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about being real AF.Your TurnWhat’s one story, routine, or lesson you could share this week? What CEOs Do Differently in Economic Uncertainty—And How You Can Too

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room: economic uncertainty.Whether it’s a government shutdown, inflation fears, or just that persistent “what’s happening now?” anxiety, these moments can trigger a fight-or-flight response. It’s tempting to freeze or hide until the storm passes. But here’s the reality: waiting it out isn’t a strategy. In my decade as an executive assistant supporting C-Suite leaders—especially CEOs—I witnessed firsthand how these high performers approach uncertainty. One thing always stood out:CEOs are wired differently. But here’s the good news: you don’t have to be a CEO to adopt a CEO mindset.CEOs Know When to Pivot—And So Can YouWhile most people doom-scroll, CEOs activate their strategic thinking. The same skills used to grow a business, manage a household, and develop future leaders are exactly what will help you—and your community—navigate tough times.Five CEO Strategies for Navigating Economic Uncertainty1. Audit Your Financial FoundationTreat your household like the business it is. Re-examine your budget. What subscriptions or services can you pause? Where can you redirect funds for the next 30, 60, or 90 days? Create a simple cash flow plan—just like a CEO would.2. Diversify Your Income StreamsNow is the moment to activate that side hustle idea or explore new revenue channels in your current business. Economic uncertainty doesn’t erase opportunity—it just shifts where it lives. Could you offer digital products, consulting, or a course? I’m currently exploring these options myself and will share my process along the way.3. Build Your Community Safety NetCEOs know the power of networks. Start a resource-sharing group with local parents or like-minded folks. Trade services, buy from each other’s businesses, share homegrown veggies. When we lift each other, everyone rises.4. Invest in Skills, Not More StuffDownturns are when the most resilient entrepreneurs double down on learning. That course you’ve been eyeing? That skill that could boost your earning power? Now’s the time. Education pays dividends, and there are plenty of free/low-cost options (I share my favorites regularly). The key: just start.5. Create Your Own SecuritySystems may fail us, but you won’t fail your family. Generational wealth is built, not handed down. Start small—put systems in place that create security in the areas you need most. This Is What Effective CEOs DoWhen things get shaky, CEOs get strategic: they assess, adapt, and act. Even in tough times, you’re not just protecting your family and community—you’re modeling resilience for your kids and peers. Uncertainty isn’t something to fear; it’s just another challenge to navigate. And this, too, shall pass. What’s one way you’re building resilience right now? Hit reply and let me know—I read every response, and I might spotlight you in an upcoming newsletter!I hope this empowers you and challenges you to reimagine how you design your life—even in uncertain times.Stay Productive AF,Jenn FastFormer Corporate Warrior | Life Reinvention Specialist | MBA | Mensa Member | Productivity Expert | Foodie | Mother | Proud Career PivoterP.S. From Overwhelmed to Productive AF: My Story & the Miracle Month Reset

Here’s what I wish someone had told me years ago:You can be smart, organized, and still feel completely overwhelmed. You can have an MBA, run a business, be a mom, and still feel like you’re always one step behind. If we haven’t met yet or it’s been a while, Hi, I’m Jenn—you may know me as ItsJennFast on all the socials, and I’m also the founder of Productive AF and Hungry AF.I’ve been everything from a pageant queen and model, to professional makeup artist, a franchise manager, a lead executive assistant in biotech, a mom to amazing daughters, and someone who’s lost over 30 pounds on a health journey. I’ve managed teams and businesses, and yes—been married three times. Through it all, I’ve learned that life is messy, but it’s also beautiful. Most recently, I suddenly walked away from my 30-year corporate career to go into retirement 20 years early. Or at least my version of it, which includes being a stay at home mom, finally focusing on my health and building a business of my own.If you’ve ever felt like you’re spinning plates and still dropping a few, you’re in the right place. Productive AF is for busy humans who want clarity, calm, and confidence—without the guilt or shame. Hungry AF is for foodies like me, who love to cook and to eat, but who need to eat healthy.Stick around, because I’m sharing all the real-life tools and stories that have helped me (and can help you) move from chaos to clarity, and to really start enjoying life.My Mission (and Why I Created Productive AF)Here’s the real reason I started Productive AF:I was tired of seeing smart, capable people—especially women—feel like we were failing at life, when really, the systems were failing us.I believe you deserve routines and tools that honor your unique brain, your real-life rhythms, and your actual priorities—not someone else’s highlight reel.My mission is to help you move from chaos to clarity, using neuro-aligned productivity systems that are compassionate, authentic, and actually doable. Our core values here? Clarity, consistency, authenticity, compassion, and empowerment. If you’re ready to create a life that feels grounded, focused, and free, you’re in the right place. You can thrive in your own rhythm—and I’m here to support you every step of the way.Why I Created the Miracle Month PlannerSo, why the Miracle Month Planner?Honestly, I created it because I was tired of buying every planner under the sun—only to abandon them after a week. Every system seemed to assume my life was neat and predictable, but let’s be real: it’s not.I needed something that worked for my beautifully complicated, sometimes chaotic reality. That’s why the Miracle Month Planner focuses on micro-wins, daily resets, and self-compassion. It’s not about perfection or streaks—it’s about progress, one tiny step at a time. It’s not even dated, because it’s not a to-do list or calendar. There are a million tools out there for that. Instead, it’s a mindset, it’s a reset, and it’s a way to start over in a more effective and doable way.I built this for busy humans who want to feel proud of their progress, not ashamed of their pace. If you need a reset that actually fits your life, this is for you.How to Use the Planner (and What to Expect)Let me show you exactly how I use the Miracle Month Planner.Every morning, I start with a quick “dream brain dump”—just five minutes to get all my thoughts and goals out of my head and onto paper. Then I set my top priorities for the day. There’s a simple daily success routine:* Morning visualization* Getting focused* Growing myself with a quick read or podcast* Taking one small action* Planning for fun and movement* Finding a moment of quiet* Noticing what I’m grateful forEach evening, I check off my habits on the routine tracker. Some days, I hit them all. Other days, just one or two. The point isn’t perfection—it’s that I keep coming back, and every tiny win builds momentum.Start wherever you are. Show up for yourself. That’s where the magic happens.I hope you’ll download this completely free planner for yourself, and please let me know what you think. I’ll link to it for you, or check the link in my bio.Real Talk—What I’ve Learned (and What’s Next)Here’s what I’ve learned after years of trying (and failing) to “get it together”:Real change doesn’t come from hustle, shame, or perfect routines. It comes from showing up, giving yourself grace, and celebrating every tiny win—especially on the days when life gets messy. If you’re tired of starting over or feeling like you’re always behind, I want you to know: you’re not alone. The Miracle Month Planner was made for people like us—humans who are ready to reset, to try again, and to find clarity in the chaos. If you’re ready for your own Miracle Month, I’d love to do this together. Download the planner, DM me your questions, or leave them in the comments, and let’s celebrate every single step—no matter how small.Let’s make your next chapter your best chapter,Jenn FastFormer Corporate Warrior, Current Life Reinvention Specialist, MBA, Mensa Member, Productivity Expert, Foodie, Mother, and Proud Career PivoterP.S. Midlife Career Pivot Manifesto | Productive AF Newsletter & Podcast | Special Edition

Dear Fellow Corporate Warrior,I used to be you.MBA on the wall. Thirty-plus years climbing the corporate ladder, making a six-figure salary plus bonuses and stock grants. The kind of career and compensation that makes people say "you're so lucky" and "you've got it made."But here's what they didn't see: the Sunday scaries that started on Friday. The 5 AM wake-ups for office days, followed by two-hour morning routines just to armor up for another day of building someone else's dream. Still not having enough time for real self care or showing up for my family. The slow erosion of my identity until I couldn't tell where Jennifer ended and "Executive Assistant and HR Programs Manager" began. The Corporate Comfort TrapWe tell ourselves stories about golden handcuffs. About being "too old" to start over. About mortgages and responsibilities and what people will think. I had all those stories too - two daughters in their teens and twenties, rent on two Seattle Eastside homes so high as to be rivaled only by the Bay Area and NYC, a marriage that was circling the drain, student loan debt, and the kind of lifestyle that required every penny of that six-figure salary. But you know what's more expensive than leaving? Staying.Staying costs you your health (hello, 60 extra pounds, stress-induced headaches, previously undiagnosed heart condition and sleep apnea). Staying costs you your relationships (when did you last have dinner without checking emails?). Staying costs you the person you were before you became a cog in someone else's machine. The Pivot PointMy wake-up call came during my physician-assisted weight loss journey. As I shed 30+ pounds (and counting), I realized I wasn't just losing weight - I was finding myself again. The woman who had built multiple careers across franchising, content creation, and business (both corporate and family-owned). The immigrant who had reinvented herself three times over. The mother who wanted to model courage, not compliance. That's when I knew: if I could transform my body at 50+, I could transform my career too.The Freedom FrameworkHere's what I wish someone had told me before I made the leap:1. Your Experience Is Your Equity: Those 30+ years in corporate? That's not just a resume - it's a masterclass in systems, leadership, and getting s**t done. Your "soft skills" are actually your hardest assets.2. Transition, Don't Quit: I didn't burn bridges - I built new ones. My corporate experience directly informs my content about productivity, time management, and business insights. Your past isn't a prison; it's your platform.3. Start Before You're Ready: You will never *be* ready. I began creating content while still employed, testing my voice and building my audience. By the time I gave notice, I had email subscribers and a clear content strategy. Small? Yes. But it was mine.4. Redefine Risk: The riskiest thing isn't leaving your job - it's staying in a role that's slowly killing your spirit while your industry evolves around you. I had backup plans (COBRA, financial support from family, return-to-work options), but more importantly, I had conviction. The Real NumbersLet's talk money, because that's what keeps most of us trapped. We run the math on salary. We almost never run the math on cost.Yes, I walked away from six figures. But I also walked toward:* 15+ hours per week of creative time (versus stolen moments in the evenings and on weekends)* A business model targeting my break-even point* Multiple revenue streams: coaching, digital products, courses, speaking* The potential to scale beyond any corporate salary ceilingMore importantly, I walked toward alignment. My content now helps high-achieving midlife humans - especially parents and professionals - overcome the same burnout and overwhelm I experienced. Every piece I write, every framework I share, every story I tell serves people going through exactly what I went through.Your Pivot Starts NowYou don't need to quit tomorrow (though that’s what I did, and if you want to, I support you). But you do need to start. Start creating. Start sharing your expertise. Start building something that's yours.Because here's what I know after 50+ years of life, three marriages, multiple career reinventions, and one very bold leap: you're not too old, too established, or too comfortable to start over. You're exactly the right age to stop playing it safe and start playing to win.The question isn't whether you can afford to leave your corporate job.The question is: can you afford to stay?Ready to Write Your Own Manifesto? If this resonates, if you're feeling that familiar ache of "there has to be more than this," then let's talk. I'm building a community of corporate refugees who are trading their golden handcuffs for entrepreneurial freedom.I want to hear from you. Hit reply or comment and tell me:* What’s the #1 thing keeping you in your current role?* What would freedom look like in the next 12 months?* What’s the one thing you need to make a pivot possible this year?I’m building resources for this community—workshops, digital products, and a course designed for midlife reinvention with data, compassion, and zero fluff. Your answers will shape what I create next.  I'll also share more about what led up to this pivot, what systems and resources I had in place before I retired from my corporate job, and what life is like now that I'm free from the golden handcuffs.Your pivot doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to be yours.Let’s make your next chapter your best chapter,Jenn FastFormer Corporate Warrior, Current Life Reinvention Specialist, MBA, Mensa Member, Productivity Expert, Foodie, Mother, and Proud Career PivoterP.S. Unlock Your Productive AF Potential: The Executive Function Edition

Discover your strengths, spot your blind spots, and work smarter with my new self-assessment tool (free download inside!)Hope this week finds you organized, energized, and ready for a fresh win. I’ve been deep in the weeds testing something that’s made a huge difference in my own productivity—so much so that I turned it into a free download for you. If you’ve ever wondered why some weeks feel effortless and others feel like a slog, this edition is for you.Mindset ShiftOver the past couple of weeks, I’ve had 1:1 conversations with colleagues who reminded me that everyone wants to do more and do their best work—but not everyone understands why they can’t seem to “just do it.”A few real-life examples:* “I wish I had your motivation.” This led to a conversation about how motivation isn’t the issue—discipline is.* “I don’t even know where to start this project.” We dug into whether the real problem was lack of clarity, focus, or difficulty with task initiation.* “I get so many requests all day! I can’t even be sure I’m not missing some.” When I asked if they had a system for capturing and prioritizing requests, it hadn’t even occurred to them. All of these are executive functioning challenges. Yet, how many people even know what executive functioning is? Luckily, I’m writing a book on this very subject. Here’s a sneak peek:Executive function is your brain’s “command center”—the set of cognitive skills that allow you to get sh*t done, even when life is messy or unpredictable. Imagine it as your internal project manager: it keeps you organized, helps you prioritize, and ensures you follow through, whether you’re running a household, building a business, or just trying to make it through Monday without losing your keys (again).I first encountered executive functioning when my oldest daughter was diagnosed with autism. As a parent, I dove into research—and realized that the skills I’d developed supporting C-suite executives and running businesses were rooted in executive function, even if I didn’t have the language for it. My organizational skills, high IQ, and decades of observation all pointed to one thing: I know how to get sh*t done.Reflection PromptWhat’s one belief about productivity you’re ready to let go of?(Mine: That I have to “feel like it” to get things done. Discipline > motivation, every time.)Framework in FocusThis week’s framework: Executive Function.Think of it as your brain’s operating system—managing focus, planning, flexibility, and emotional regulation. In my experience leading teams and organizing chaos, the most productive people weren’t the busiest—they were the most self-aware about how their brains work. How do you become self-aware? Simple: diagnosis.Just like a doctor or a mechanic, you need to run a few tests. That’s why I created the Executive Function Self-Assessment—a tool designed to help you quickly identify your strengths and areas for growth. It’s simple, private, and takes just minutes.Action StepIf you’re ready to figure out what your executive function strengths and weaknesses are, here’s all you have to do:* Step 1: Download my free Executive Function Self Assessment (link here).* Print or open it in your favorite PDF app (Goodnotes on iPad, Remarkable, etc.).* Take 5 minutes to answer honestly.* Review your results—spot your strengths and pick one area to tweak this week.Productive AF Challenge:Download the Executive Function Self Assessment, pick your lowest-scoring area, and try one new strategy to support it (I’ll start to share my favorite hacks in next week’s edition!).ReflectionWere you surprised by any of your results? Are you willing to share your results with our readers? Are there specific challenges you face that we can prioritize discussing strategies for?Reply or leave a comment to begin the conversation!Real AF WinsI recently administered the Self-Assessment to a friend. He always thought he was “unorganized,” but scored highest in Organization & Planning. His lowest score? Emotional Regulation & Impulse Control—which made perfect sense when he reflected on his productivity struggles. Just knowing this gave him a new perspective and a clear starting point for improvement. When you understand how your brain works, you can find the right solutions—and double down on your natural strengths.Tools & ResourcesThe first and best tool for this week is the Executive Functioning Self-Assessment. In order to get it into the hands of as many people as possible, I’ve made it a free download, accessible through this link.I’m excited to announce my upcoming e-book, “Executive Function Unlocked: The Get Your Sh*t Together Playbook.” This is your practical guide to mastering executive function—packed with stories, science, and real-world frameworks to help you ditch overwhelm and get things done, no matter what life throws at you.Want to be a beta reader? I’m looking for a small group to preview the book, provide feedback, and get their names in the acknowledgments. If you’re interested in a free advance copy, reply or leave a comment ASAP—spots are limited!Stay tuned for more resources, infographics, and the official launch date. Make sure you’re subscribed, and follow along on socials for updates:* 📷Instagram* 🔵Facebook* 🎶TikTok* 🔖SubstackLook AheadThanks for making progress with me! Over the next few weeks, I’ll break down the main pillars of executive functioning and what they say about the way your brain works, what challenges they can create for you, and what strategies you can implement to retrain your brain or work around those challenges.Have a question or want to see a specific productivity topic? Just reply—I read every message. With clarity, intention, and a dash of AF energy,Jenn---P.S.What’s your biggest productivity struggle right now? When Inclusion Isn’t Just a Policy—It’s Personal

For too many organizations, Pride Month is a box to check, not a catalyst for change. As June closes, let’s talk about what real allyship looks like—because inclusion isn’t a seasonal accessory. For organizations aiming to outperform, Pride Month is more than a calendar event—it’s a litmus test for your culture. The ROI of inclusion is real: higher retention, greater innovation, and a workforce that brings their best ideas forward every day. Thanks for reading Productive AF! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work. And for many of us, inclusion is personal. When my oldest daughter came out, my first instinct was to build a fortress of safety at home. But as she navigated her first job search—researching companies not just for pay, but for inclusion—I realized that true belonging can’t be limited to our living rooms. It must be built into every workplace.A Personal Turning PointTransitions are hard by nature - some harder than others. For my transgender teenager, evolving into the person you were always supposed to be in front of your family and peers while everyone was emerging from a pandemic was particularly complicated. As her parent, there were many turning points in our journey together. One especially memorable moment was when she applied for her first job after changing her identity. As her parent, it was my job to support and guide, but I also understood the importance of letting her lead.I can remember her researching each potential employer, including their willingness to hire and train at entry level, and especially their policies regarding inclusion and how they support LGBTQIA+ employees. She was mature enough to know that her best chances of success lay in choosing a place where she will feel as if she belongs. At bare minimum, she knew that she certainly could never work where policies set up a situation in which being her authentic self would be used against her in any way. When my daughter asked me to drive her to an interview with the local Fred Meyer, I was both excited for her and anxious about what she was about to experience. In her research, she found that the store had inclusive policies and would respect her identity, but as we all know, how policies are enforced, and in what spirit, can be a very different story.I remember sitting in the car, waiting for her interview to end, saying silent prayers that her first job interview would not give her a first experience of discrimination or bias. My fear was that she would be too intimidated or disappointed to keep trying. You can imagine how it felt to see her emerge from the store with a silly grin on her face, waving a folder of new hire paperwork! I was overwhelmed with relief, pride, and gratitude to this company for not letting either of us down. Not only did they give my teen her first job, but they made her feel welcome and celebrated, not just tolerated. That moment taught me that inclusion isn’t just a corporate value—it’s a daily practice. There is no easy or quick formula to making inclusion a part of a corporate culture. It requires the right kind of leadership with a certain level of vulnerability - listening without judgment, advocating for policies that matter, and being willing to admit what you don’t know. It’s also recognizing that every employee’s story is unique, and that true allyship means meeting people where they are.Professional ApplicationsI’ve worked to bring these lessons into my own career and teach others how to apply them successfully. Whether it’s updating benefits to recognize diverse families, creating space for open conversations, or simply checking in with colleagues, I’ve learned that the most meaningful changes often start with vulnerability, empathy and curiosity.I now lead Belonging Programs as part of a People and Culture team, and it has become the most satisfying work of my life. I'm learning how to be a better ally, a better parent, and to advocate for those who need additional support all year long. That support can take many forms besides policy. It can look like employee resource groups, educational and fun programming, helping people make connections, and applying frameworks that provide structure and consistency to inclusion efforts. If you’re not sure where to start, try this:* Audit your benefits for inclusivity* Create regular forums for open dialogue* Normalize pronoun sharing in meetings, email signatures, and in the corporate directory* Sponsor ERGs and mentorship programsSmall steps, repeated daily, become culture. Culture carries into your home.It has been a privilege for me to watch my daughters grow and thrive, even in a challenging and changing world. This has been encouragement to keep pushing for improvements to corporate culture and policies that foster inclusion, and to continue to share what I've learned. What's NextAt the risk of restating the obvious, I want to continue to make inclusion and support of our LGBTQIA+ colleagues a yearlong conversation, not just a Pride Month performance. In that spirit, I've planned a series of additional articles and resources to keep the discourse moving forward.Over the coming weeks, I’ll share practical tools and stories on topics like:* The Ally Leader Framework: A.L.L.Y. (Acknowledge, Listen, Learn, Yield Space)—a blueprint for daily action* Navigating Difficult Conversations as an Ally—scripts and strategies that work* Inclusive Leadership Starter Kit—a free download to jumpstart your efforts…and more.Join the ConversationWhich of these topics would help you most? Hit reply and let me know. If you have a story or tip to share, I’d love to feature your experience (with your permission) in an upcoming newsletter or podcast. Let’s build these resources together—because inclusion is a team sport.Until next time, progress over perfection, always. The Productivity Paradox

TL;DR* Spoiler: Hustle culture is overrated.* Big Idea: Strategic "unproductivity" is the secret weapon of high performers.* Action Step: Try my “Do-Less-But-Better” challenge this week (details below).Let’s Get Real: The Productivity Guilt SpiralIf you’ve ever opened your calendar, groaned at the color-coded chaos, and thought, “How is it only Tuesday?”—welcome to the club. Last week, I debunked the myth of work-life balance; this week, I want to tackle its equally sneaky cousin: the Productivity Paradox. Here’s the trap: We believe the more we do, the more we achieve. But if you’re anything like me—a recovering overachiever with a penchant for 37-item to-do lists—you know that more “doing” often means more burnout, less joy, and (ironically) less actual progress. Thanks for reading Productive AF! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work. The Paradox, ExplainedLet’s borrow a page from my MBA playbook: the Law of Diminishing Returns. In plain English: After a certain point, each extra hour or task delivers less value than the one before. You can grind through a 12-hour day, but by hour ten, you’re probably just doomscrolling LinkedIn and pretending it’s “networking.”What’s wild is that the most successful people I know (clients, execs, creators, and frazzled parents) aren’t doing more—they’re doing less, but with ruthless intention. They protect their best energy for what actually matters, and they let the rest go.The “Do-Less-But-Better” FrameworkLet’s make this concrete. Here’s how I’m applying the “Do-Less-But-Better” approach in my own life and business:1. Ruthless Prioritization* Each Sunday, I pick my top three outcomes for the week (not tasks—outcomes).* Everything else becomes “nice to have,” not “must do.”2. Time Blocking for Focus* I schedule 60-90-minute deep work blocks for my most important project (usually my day-job goals, content, sometimes just meal planning — no shame).* I defend these blocks like a mama bear with a double espresso.3. Strategic Unproductivity* I build in “buffer” time for thinking, walking, or staring out the window.* This is not laziness. This is when my best ideas (and recipes) show up, and negates context-switching.4. Radical Acceptance* Some weeks, the only thing I “produce” is a decent dinner and a clean inbox. That’s enough.Your Challenge: The “Do-Less-But-Better” WeekWant to try it with me? Here’s your challenge:* Pick three outcomes for the week. Write them down—physically, digitally, tattoo them on your forearm (okay, maybe not).* Block out time each day for just one of those outcomes. Treat it as sacred.* Say no to one thing that doesn’t serve your top three. Yes, even if it’s “just a quick call.”* Share your results—reply, comment or tag me with what you learned (and how it felt to do less).Audience Question of the Week"Jenn, how do I know if I’m being lazy or just strategically unproductive?"Great question. Here’s my take: If you’re avoiding work out of fear or procrastination, that’s avoidance. If you’re intentionally choosing to rest, reflect, or recharge so you can focus on what matters, that’s strategy. The difference is intention.Quick Win: My Favorite “Unproductive” RitualI end every Friday with a “shutdown” walk—no phone, no podcasts, just me and my thoughts. It’s the least productive hour of my week, and also, arguably, the most valuable.Real Life in Action—Practicing What I PreachBefore we close for the week, I want to let you in on something personal: I’m about to take my own advice, unapologetically. For the next two weeks, I’ll be stepping away from the daily grind—and yes, even from this newsletter—to go on an adventure-travel vacation with my teen daughter to Costa Rica. We’re prioritizing memories over meetings, presence over productivity hacks, and real connection over relentless hustle. In other words: I’m living the “Do-Less-But-Better” mantra, not just preaching it.I’m looking forward to unplugging from most of my tech, finally breaking in my new passport, and challenging myself with new (and not-so-new) experiences like: white water river rafting, horseback riding, ziplining, bike ride around a volcano, night jungle walk, visiting a chocolate farm, and hopefully a little sitting-by-the-pool and beach time. It’s not every day that a 14-year-old actually wants to spend time with her mother, and it may not last, so this time away and together means the world to me.If you notice Productive AF landing in your inbox a little less frequently, now you know why. This is intentional, and it’s a direct reflection of the boundary-setting and prioritization I encourage every week. I’ll be back, recharged and full of new stories (and probably a few travel mishaps) to share—ready to dive back into helping you build a life and business that works for you.In the meantime, I encourage you to find your own moments of strategic unproductivity. Take a walk. Close your laptop. Or, like me, say yes to an adventure that can’t be rescheduled.Stay Productive AF (on your own terms),JenniferP.S. 🌟 Stay Connected While I’m Away! 🌟I’ll be sharing behind-the-scenes moments, travel insights, and honest reflections from my adventure with my daughter on Instagram and all the other social networks over the next two weeks.I’d love to hear from you, too:If you’re taking your own break, testing the “Do-Less-But-Better” challenge, or embarking on a summer adventure, hit reply or tag me in your posts. Why Work-Life Balance is a Trap (and What Actually Works)

Let’s get real: If you’ve ever been told you just need “better work-life balance” or “more time for self-care,” you probably rolled your eyes as hard as I did. (If I had a dollar for every time someone told me to “just delegate,” I could buy a robot to do my laundry and maybe even answer my DMs.)Here’s the truth nobody tells you: For most of us, balance isn’t a static state. It’s a moving target, and sometimes it’s just about not dropping the same ball two days in a row.Why “Balance” Is Overrated (and What to Aim For Instead)According to the World Health Organization, burnout is now classified as an occupational phenomenon, and nearly 77% of professionals have experienced burnout at their current job. That may be why the productivity world loves to sell us the fantasy of “work-life balance.” It’s the unicorn everyone’s chasing—an idyllic state where your to-do list is tamed, your calendar is color-coded, and you’re sipping a green juice in a sun-drenched kitchen before 8 a.m. (If that’s you, congrats! For the rest of us, the closest we get is a half-cold coffee, although my calendar is color-coded.) And if you can’t reach that ideal, you have permission to ditch the guilt and be a human being. Here’s the problem: “Balance” implies that every area of your life—work, side hustle, health, relationships, self-care—should get equal attention, every day, all the time. That’s simply not realistic, especially for those of us running multiple hustles, working full-time, perhaps parenting, and trying to have a life outside of calendars and emails. In fact, chasing perfect balance is a recipe for burnout and, ironically, feeling less accomplished.Instead, let’s talk about building a system that flexes with your real, messy schedule. Here are 10 ways in which I’ve been making it work (most days):1. Prioritize Like a Pro (a.k.a. Ruthless AF)Research published in the Harvard Business Review found that high performers spend 40% more time on their top priorities than their peers.* Not everything matters equally all the time. Each week, I pick 1 or 2 “must-do” tasks for each of my major goals for the year. Everything else? Nice-to-have. If it doesn’t move the needle and my day goes South, it gets bumped.* Pro tip: Use a framework or tool like the Eisenhower Matrix (which helps you decide between urgent vs. important) or just a sticky note—whatever you’ll actually check.2. Batch, Batch, BatchThe American Psychological Association reports that multitasking can reduce productivity by as much as 40%, largely due to the cognitive cost of context switching. That’s why batching is a non-negotiable for me.* I batch everything from cooking to executive assistant tasks, program management, mentoring, content creation, and personal business into focused sprints. (Yes, sometimes this means filming three videos in the same shirt. #NoShame)* Find your low-energy admin slot and your high-energy creative window, and guard them like a dragon guards gold.3. Automate the Boring StuffZapier’s 2023 Automation Report found that 90% of knowledge workers say automation has improved their lives, and 88% say it allows them to focus on more interesting work. So if you’re still avoiding using AI or other automation tools, it’s time we talk.* Allow technology to help you do the repetitive stuff that is sucking up your time and attention. The few minutes it takes you to set up a workflow is time well-invested.* Templates aren’t cheating—they’re strategic. I use Canva for almost everything visual, and it saves my sanity. Plus I’m developing my own templates for productivity techniques I use (or recommend to others) over and over.4. Protect Your “No”* Every “yes” is a “no” to something else. I’ve learned there’s an opportunity cost to giving away my time, and to say no to things that don’t align with my goals (like taking on tasks outside my domain, or over-engineered productivity apps).* Boundaries = productivity superpower. Try it.5. Celebrate the Small WinsResearch by Teresa Amabile (Harvard) shows that recognizing small wins daily boosts motivation and overall performance.* Did you finally launch that newsletter you’ve been putting off? Finally respond to three emails? Awesome!* Progress > perfection, every time.6. Intentional ImbalanceAccording to a 2023 LinkedIn Global Talent Trends report, 63% of professionals say that “work-life balance” is a top priority, but only 31% feel they actually achieve it.* Life and business move in seasons. Some weeks, one of your goals or projects will get the spotlight, in other weeks it will shift to something else.* The real skill is in knowing what needs your focus now, and being okay with letting other things simmer on the back burner.* Intentional imbalance means you’re choosing your priorities on purpose, not out of guilt or obligation.7. Progress Over Perfection* Forget about hitting every single goal every single day. Instead, track your momentum.* Did you make meaningful progress on your top priorities this week? Did you move the needle—even a little? That’s a win.* The most productive people aren’t the ones who do it all; they’re the ones who do what matters most, consistently.8. Flexible Systems, Not Rigid SchedulesA 2024 Gallup poll found that employees with flexible work systems report 29% higher engagement and 53% greater well-being than those with rigid schedules.* Color-coded calendars and bullet journals are great—if they work for you. (I use one, but not the other.) But if you find yourself spending more time organizing your planner than actually getting the work done, it’s time to simplify.* Build systems that flex with your life and leave space for the unexpected (because life will always throw you curveballs).9. Alignment Over Aesthetics* It’s tempting to compare your behind-the-scenes chaos to someone else’s Instagram-perfect productivity setup. But aesthetics don’t pay the bills or move your goals forward—alignment does.* Focus on actions and habits that align with your goals, not just what looks impressive on social media.10. Self-Compassion as a Productivity ToolStudies from Stanford University indicate that self-compassion is strongly linked to resilience, lower stress, and sustained productivity, especially in high-pressure environments.* Here’s an advanced move: Drop the guilt.* Didn’t check off every item on your list today? Never been to Inbox Zero? That’s not failure—it’s reality.* Give yourself permission to be human. Sustainable productivity is about resilience, not rigidity.Real Talk: My Week in NumbersIf you’ve never done a real and honest audit of your time, this is your sign. After making some adjustments to accommodate making progress on all my goals, I landed on:* 56 hours: Sleep* 40 hours: Day job* 8-10 hours: Spending time with my teenager* 8-10 hours: Content creation (split between over 15 different social media accounts, and, let’s be honest, doom-scrolling for “research”)* 3-4 hours: Commuting* 3 hours: Exercise (30-minutes a day, 6 days a week)* 30 mins - 1 hour: Planning and reviewing what’s actually working, usually on SundaysIs it glamorous? Nope. Is it sustainable? Most days. Is it making progress toward my ultimate dreams? You bet. (Extra points if you noticed where I spend the most time, and where I don’t. This is by design, not by chance.)Your Turn: What’s Your Biggest Productivity Blocker?Reply and let me know: What’s your number one productivity struggle right now? I’ll feature the most common blockers (anonymously, of course) in the next edition—plus my best hacks for overcoming them.Stay Productive (and a little bit AF),Jenn FastP.S. The Brainy Edge: How Neuroscience Supercharges Your Decision-Making

Ever found yourself staring at a to-do list, paralyzed by indecision while your coffee goes cold? You’re not alone. Every day, we make thousands of decisions—some tiny, some life-changing—and our brains are working overtime to keep up. But what if you could tap into the latest neuroscience to make decisions not just faster, but with more confidence and less regret? This week, we’re diving into what actually happens in your brain when you’re weighing options, why you sometimes freeze up (analysis paralysis), and how you can rewire your mind for productivity gold. Spoiler: It’s not about being born decisive—it’s about leveraging your brain’s natural wiring. Ready for a neural upgrade? Why Decision-Making Feels So Hard (and What Your Brain Has to Say About It)Let’s bust a myth: Decision fatigue is real, and it’s not just because you’re “bad at adulting.” Neuroscientists have shown that your prefrontal cortex—the brain’s executive command center—gets overloaded when you face too many choices. Every decision, from “What’s for breakfast?” to “Should I launch that new side project?” chips away at your daily mental energy. But here’s the good news: your brain uses shortcuts (heuristics) to help you decide quickly and efficiently. The trick is to know when these shortcuts are helping—and when they’re leading you astray (overthinking or defaulting to the easiest option). The Productive AF Playbook for Better Decisions1. Minimize Low-Value Choices - Steve Jobs wore the same thing every day for a reason. Reduce “micro-decisions” (like what to eat or wear) by building routines or prepping in advance. Reduce decision fatigue to save your brainpower for what actually matters.2. Leverage the Power of Pause - Research shows that a brief pause before deciding helps your brain shift from impulse to logic. Next time you feel pressured, take a deep breath. Give your prefrontal cortex a second to weigh in.3. Reframe the Stakes - Your amygdala (the brain’s fear center) loves to sound the alarm when faced with uncertainty. Calm it down: ask yourself, “Is this really a make-or-break decision, or just one step on a longer journey?” Most choices are reversible. Give yourself permission to experiment.4. Set a Decision Deadline - Unlimited time doesn’t mean better decisions. Set a timer—15 minutes for small stuff, a day for bigger calls—and commit to moving forward. Sometimes you need to “sleep on it,” but don't “sleep” for days or weeks on a decision.5. Use the "Two-Way Door" Test - Is this a one-way door (hard to reverse) or a two-way door (easy to change later)? If it’s a two-way door, decide quickly and adjust as you go. Reserve your deep thinking for the rare, high-impact “one-way” calls.Actionable Next Steps* Decision Audit: For the next 24 hours, jot down every decision you make—big or small. At the end of the day, highlight which ones could be automated, delegated, or skipped entirely. (You’ll be amazed!)* Create a “Default” List: Build a list of go-to meals, outfits, and workflows. The more decisions you make on autopilot, the more energy you’ll have for the big stuff.* Practice the Pause: Before your next choice, pause for 10 seconds. Notice how you feel. Does the urgency drop? Does clarity increase? This tiny habit is a game-changer.Recommended Resources* Book: “Thinking, Fast and Slow” by Daniel Kahneman* Podcast: “Hidden Brain” (NPR), especially episodes on decision-making and cognitive biases* Article: “The Neuroscience of Decision-Making” (Scientific American)* App: “Decide Now!” – for quick, low-stakes choicesLet’s Crowdsource Some Wisdom! What’s the toughest decision you’re facing right now? How to Build a Personal Productivity System That Actually Sticks

Most productivity “systems” are like those fancy kitchen gadgets you buy in a moment of inspiration (or social media influence)—used twice, then banished to the back of the drawer. If you’ve ever tried a bullet journal (this was a fail for me!), a color-coded Google Calendar (I still use this every day!), or a complicated app (let’s not even talk about this one) and still felt like you were spinning your wheels, you’re not alone. The truth? Productivity isn’t about finding the perfect tool. It’s about building a system that fits your life, your brain, and your actual schedule (not the fantasy version).Think about it: Which fitness program is best for you? The one you will actually do consistently. Which diet is right for you? The one you will actually stick to. Should I get a gym membership? Only if you’re going to use it. This edition is your no-nonsense guide to creating a personal productivity system that you’ll actually use—one that flexes with your real life and helps you get sh*t done (without losing your mind). Why Most Productivity Systems Fail (and How to Avoid the Trap)Raise your hand if you’ve ever fallen for a system that promised to “change your life in 30 days.” 🙋 (I’ve even paid good money for these!) The problem isn’t you—it’s the one-size-fits-all approach. Productivity is personal. What works for your favorite influencer might drive you bananas. The key is to design a system around your habits, responsibilities, and energy levels. Here’s what most people get wrong:* Overcomplicating things (hello, 17-step morning routine)* Copy-pasting someone else’s method without adapting it* Ignoring your own natural rhythms (are you a night owl pretending to be an early bird?)* Forgetting to review and tweak the system as your life changesStep 1: Audit Your RealityBefore you build anything, you need a clear-eyed look at how you actually spend your time. For one week, jot down your daily activities—work, family, content creation, doom-scrolling, all of it. Don’t judge, just observe.Pro tip: Use your phone’s screen time report and your calendar history for a reality check. Don’t forget to consider all the different calendars you use, and all the different screens or devices.Step 2: Identify Your Non-NegotiablesWhat has to happen each week, no matter what? For me, that’s managing my full-time job and a side-gig, meetings and appointments, spending time with my daughter, getting in some exercise, and, yes, feeding myself something other than protein bars. These are your anchors. Everything else is built around them.Step 3: Choose (and Limit) Your ToolsPick ONE calendar, ONE task manager, and ONE place for notes. I know, the lure of shiny new apps is strong, but trust me—simplicity is your friend. I personally use:* Google Calendar for scheduling personal stuff* Outlook for work stuff* I track tasks in those same calendars (ask me for my system on that!)* And I combine it all with the reMarkable Paper Pro tablet for everything I used to do on paper (planner, infinite notebook, writing, reading, filing, etc.) and as a highly effective focus tool.Remember: The best tool is the one you’ll actually use.Step 4: Set Up Simple RoutinesRoutines aren’t just for morning people. Even a 5-minute daily check-in can keep you on track. Try this:* Weekly Review: Sunday night, glance at your week ahead. What’s coming up? What needs prep?* Daily Top 3: Each morning, pick your 3 must-do tasks and do them first. If everything else falls apart, these are your wins.* Evening Reset: Tidy up your workspace and brain—close tabs, jot down lingering thoughts, prep for tomorrow.Step 5: Make It Visual (and Fun)Productivity shouldn’t feel like punishment. Use color-coding, stickers, or a digital dashboard that brings you joy. I’m not above rewarding myself with a fancy coffee (or a nap) for sticking to my plan.Step 6: Embrace Imperfection & IterateSpoiler: You will fall off the wagon sometimes. Life happens. The magic is in getting back on, tweaking what didn’t work, and celebrating small wins. Your system should evolve with you—not the other way around.Real Talk: My Personal System in ActionHere’s how I personally stay Productive AF:* Google/Outlook Calendar: Non-negotiables, deadlines, meetings, appointments, and task time blocks* Weekly Planning Session: 20 minutes on Sunday evening or Monday morning with a warm beverage and noise-cancelling headphones* Flexible To-Do List: I keep it digital and on my calendars (using color coding and formatting), but I pair that with my reMarkable Paper Pro to force me to focus on the most important activities that will drive my goals forward today* Templates: Canva for content and visuals and reMarkable is full of productivity templates. Plus, I am in the process of designing my own productivity templates - stay tuned! Because consistency is queen (or king).* Backups: iCloud, OneDrive, and Google Drive, so I never lose my stuffIs it perfect? Not even close. But it’s mine, it’s constantly evolving — and it works (most days).Your Turn: Build Your Own SystemReady to build a productivity system that actually sticks? Start with the steps above. Tweak, test, and make it yours. And don’t forget—progress beats perfection every time.Do you need a deeper dive on any of the tools I mentioned? Unlocking Peak Productivity

Welcome to the podcast version of the first official edition of the Productive AF Newsletter! If you’re listening, chances are you want to be more efficient, make better decisions, and truly maximize your impact. The good news? Productivity isn’t just about cramming more tasks into your day—it’s about leveraging time, information, and organization strategically to create meaningful results.I’m Jenn Fast. For my entire three-decade career, I have been learning from very successful people - observing, analyzing, asking questions, and absorbing all I can about what traits, habits, skills, and behaviors contribute to success.I have been able to leverage all that experience to turn myself into a highly-organized, highly-productive, high-functioning, and high-impact person while maintaining a balance between work, home, family, self-care, and passion projects. Now I share my learnings to help others optimize time, information, organizational skills, and impact. Today our topic is an introduction to how we can unlock peak productivity. So, let’s kick things off with a foundational concept: Leverage vs. Hustle.Leverage vs. Hustle—What’s Your Play? For years, productivity has been glorified as hustle culture—doing more, sleeping less, and measuring success by the number of hours worked. I know I’ve personally drunk that kool-aid, and it has led me to poor health, to damaged relationships, to stress out and burn out. But let’s be real—time is finite. The real game-changer isn’t working harder; it’s working smarter. I know that’s a cliche, but it is repeated over and over because it is a key concept to start to optimize all your efforts. Here’s how to start to shift our mindset:✅ Leverage Time: Instead of adding more tasks, structure your day around high-impact activities—the ones that actually move the needle. Of course, knowing what to prioritize requires an understanding of your personal core values, your goals, and having a plan on how to reach those. How to do all of that could probably fill several episodes, so let me know if you’re interested in diving deeper. In the meantime, you can use tools like time-blocking or batching to minimize distractions.✅ Leverage Information: The internet is overflowing with insights - you are bombarded with information everywhere you go. We carry it with us on our phones, have unlimited access on our tablets and computers, and can listen to it over radios and podcasts. But productivity comes from knowing which information to act on. This starts by being intentional about what information you allow into your life. Curate your sources, implement some form of structured note-taking, and extract actionable takeaways. You’re more likely to actually use information if you have a system in place to capture it, store it, organize it, and retrieve it when you need it. Which leads us to our next key to shift our mindset.✅ Leverage Organization: Productivity thrives on systems, not chaos. Set up workflows that reduce mental fatigue and decision fatigue—automations, checklists, and having clear priorities eliminate decision overload. Let me know if you’re interested in exploring different systems to help with this.So to summarize: Hustle burns you out. Leverage builds success. As you absorb all of this and begin to build out your systems for leveraging time, information and organization, here’s a quick hack that you can implement right away.Quick Productivity Hack: The “Two-Minute Rule”If a task takes less than two minutes, do it immediately. This prevents small things from piling up and turning into overwhelming to-do lists. This is also a great way to build momentum to tackle bigger tasks. What’s Coming Next?In upcoming episodes, we’ll cover: 🔹 How to maximize deep work without distraction 🔹 Building personal productivity systems that actually stick 🔹 The neuroscience behind effective decision-making.If this was helpful, please share with someone who could use help and inspiration in order to maximize their impact. Want to dive deeper on anything mentioned today? Or do you want to see specific topics covered? Drop a comment with your biggest productivity challenges! Are you already a thought leader in any of the concepts we reviewed today? I’d love to collaborate on future podcasts.
