    During Black History Month, we often hear about the historic accomplishments of figures such as Rosa Parks, Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. But do you know the story of the first black female medical doctor in the United States or the story of the man behind some of the most iconic photos of the civil rights movement or the story of the interracial marriage that changed precedents forever?     TNT and the Guianas: Atlantic Indians

    In today’s episode, host Surya Vir talks about Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, and Suriname. These countries are located in the northeastern shoulder of South America, north of Brazil and southeast of Venezuela. More specifically, Surya centers in upon the interesting ethnic group of Indians residing in these countries. The descendants of indentured servants brought over by the British empire in the 19th century; these Atlantic Indians or Indo-Caribbeans are a population with a rich and unique culture. During the episode, Surya also talks with Dr. Lomarsh Roopnarine, a Guyanese history professor at Jackson State University. Join Surya as he explores the complex history of Indians in the Caribbean.

    Chile and the other 9/11

    In today's episode, host Surya Vir talks about Chile and more specifically, the fall of democracy and the rise of fascism that took place in the '70s. This dictatorship took power on September 11th, 1973, and yesterday marked the 50th anniversary of this event.
