Episode 108: Cardiac Quacks Rise as Youth Ends the Drought, Kopitar Takes One Last Shot
Send us Fan MailBoth Southern California teams are in the NHL playoffs, and the vibe is equal parts disbelief and full-on rivalry. We jump straight into what that actually means for the Anaheim Ducks and the Los Angeles Kings right now, not in abstract “playoff hockey” clichés, but in real matchups, recent form, and the little warning signs that showed up in the final week of the regular season. We start with Ducks news, from San Diego’s Calder Cup push to roster movement and the trade conditions that finally lock in, including the first-round pick cost tied to John Carlson. Then we dig into the kind of stat that makes fans argue for days: Troy Terry going 58 games before registering a hit, what that says about physical play versus puck control, and how identity gets exposed fast against a team like the Edmonton Oilers. From there we recap the loudest nights at the Pond, the blown leads, the special teams swings, and why the Fear Of The Flock push suddenly feels real again. On the Kings side, we talk Ontario Reign momentum, late-season performances, and the decision that could define the series against the Colorado Avalanche: who starts in goal and why. We also take a moment for a franchise-changing name, reflecting on Jonathan Quick’s retirement and what it would look like for him to get a true final salute in an LA sweater. We wrap with our first-round game predictions, how to watch, your hot takes, bracket challenge notes, and a heartfelt pause to remember Angels legend Garrett Anderson. If you’re rolling into the Stanley Cup Playoffs and want a smart SoCal playoff preview with real fan energy, subscribe, share the show with a hockey friend, and leave us a review. Bonus Episode: Phil Hulett Interview
Send us Fan MailOne voice can change the temperature of an entire arena, and Anaheim Ducks public address announcer Phil Hulett has been proving that for years. We talk with Phil about the real job behind the mic, the moments fans remember, and the invisible pressure of getting every detail right when 17,000 people are listening and the game is moving at full speed. Phil tells the origin story that still feels unreal: a simple cold call that led to an Angels tryout, a mentor who taught him the ropes in real time, and the lessons he carried into hockey. From signature goal calls to the JMG Power Play cadence, we dig into how an NHL PA announcer builds excitement without losing clarity, and why speaking to “you” can be more powerful than addressing a crowd. We also get into the messy side of live sports, including a chaotic penalty announcement during a Ducks vs Maple Leafs game where conflicting headset info created on-air confusion, plus the challenge of announcing from the rafters instead of ice level. If you love the Honda Center game-night experience, crowd participation, and the craft of sports announcing, this conversation delivers stories and practical insight. We also hit the Kings trophy nominations and what leadership looks like when the playoff picture is tight. On the Anaheim Ducks side, we dig into prospect movement and why AHL San Diego is suddenly must-watch, with Damian Clara and Lucas Pettersson joining the Gulls and more young names pushing for time. Then it gets weird in the most modern way possible: the Olen Zellweger unfollow story after Olympic gold, the Instagram tracking culture around NHL players, and the line between “public info” and straight-up stalking. From there we pivot to big Ducks headlines, including Pat Verbeek’s multi-year extension and Leo Carlsson’s milestone scoring pace in franchise context. After that, it’s a full NHL playoff race rundown: surprise clinches, eliminations, GM and coaching changes, the Presidents Trophy curse, jersey choices that signal bigger branding moves, and the standings math that turns into a checklist of “if this team wins in regulation.” We close with game recaps, predictions, and a listener question that tees up offseason roster decisions and captain talk.If you like smart hockey talk with real fan energy, subscribe, share the show, and leave a rating or review so more Kings and Ducks fans can find us.Support the show-Links to all our socials and where to find the podcast: https://linktr.ee/royallyquacked-Check out all ESEN shows and content here: https://linktr.ee/ESENetworkJoin our Discord: https://discord.gg/MEx82G9Iron+Steel Threads: Use code RQ10 to save 10% on your order.https://ironsteelthreads.com/?ref=rqUse Promo Code: RQ10 for 10 % off your order. Episode 106: Ducks Need Answers, Kings Need Points
Send us Fan MailA coach wins a Stanley Cup and still gets fired with eight games left. A GM gets shown the door in Toronto. Meanwhile, the Ducks keep scoring first and then finding new ways to let games slip, and the Kings are somehow writing the strangest overtime record book you’ve ever seen. That’s the energy we bring to Royally Quacked Episode 106, with a full ride through the week’s NHL news, Pacific Division chaos, and the real stress test of a late-season playoff push.We start with Kings updates, including the milestone nobody wants: tying the record for most overtime games in a season and setting the mark for overtime losses. From there we get into prospect and roster talk, including the Slukynsky brothers signing entry-level contracts and what it could mean as the Kings plan for a new wave of players. On the Ducks side we cover key injuries, Roger McQueen’s move into pro hockey with San Diego, and why the Anaheim Ducks power play and penalty kill are becoming the story at the worst possible time. Then we zoom out to the league: the Toronto Maple Leafs firing Brad Treliving sparks a bigger argument about team identity, roster fit, and why copying a champion’s blueprint can blow up fast. The Vegas Golden Knights move on from Bruce Cassidy and bring in John Tortorella, and we break down what a “new voice” really changes this late. After that, it’s wall-to-wall game recaps for both teams, a Macklin Celebrini MVP-level impact check, standings math, predictions, listener questions, and yes, a surprise puppy co-host moment. If you’re following the NHL playoff race, Anaheim Ducks hockey, or Los Angeles Kings hockey, you’ll feel right at home. Episode 105: The Cardiac Comeback Kids Lead Pacific, Kings Still In Playoff Hunt!
Send us Fan MailA goal gets challenged, the replay looks obvious, and somehow the call still goes the other way. That kind of week sets the tone as we grab coffee early, trade a little baseball trash talk, and then sprint through two full weeks of Anaheim Ducks hockey and LA Kings hockey before heading to the Ducks watch party at Brewery X.We talk legacy and momentum on the Kings side, starting with Anze Kopitar hitting 1,500 games and taking over as the all-time points leader for the LA Kings. Then we dig into why Quinton Byfield’s late-season heat matters beyond goals, what it could mean for the Kings’ center depth next year, and why adding Matt Greene to the coaching staff feels like a “details win” move. For Ducks fans, it’s a mix of development decisions and high-stress wins. We debate what prospect Roger McQueen should do next, why an entry-level contract is a one-way door for NCAA players, and we react to the Sennecke embellishment fine. We also pause for the emotional news: longtime Ducks radio voice Steve Carroll calling it a career after 30 years. Then it’s straight into the chaos, including a controversial goalie interference sequence, a wild comeback against Buffalo, and Mikael Granlund going full hero with a power-play hat trick and an overtime winner with one second left in Calgary. If you’re tracking the NHL Pacific Division race, playoff picture, and the nightly swings that come with it, you’ll feel right at home. Bonus Episode: Daryl Evans Interview
Send us Fan MailYou can learn a lot about hockey by watching highlights, but you learn even more by listening to someone who’s lived every layer of the game. We’re joined by Daryl Evans, LA Kings radio analyst, lifelong skating teacher, and the man who scored the overtime winner in the Miracle On Manchester. He takes us back to street hockey roots, a first season where he could barely skate, and the power-skating breakthrough that flipped his entire path. We also get practical advice for beginners and adult skaters, including why learning how to fall safely is often the first real skill that unlocks confidence.Daryl shares a story we won’t forget: helping a 101-year-old step onto the ice one more time. It turns into a lesson about mindset, community, and why hockey feels like a family in every rink and every city. We also dig into one of his most famous habits skating without laces and what it taught him about ankle mobility, edge control, and letting your feet work naturally. Then we go deep on Kings history and Kings hockey today: what it was like being drafted, playing alongside Marcel Dionne and Dave Taylor, calling games on radio, and preparing with old-school handwritten notes so the broadcast sounds alive instead of read. We talk Jonathan Quick’s legendary 2012 run, Anze Kopitar’s place in franchise history, and what the Kings need to do to push forward, including the big questions around center depth and Quinton Byfield’s next step. If you love the LA Kings, NHL storytelling, and the craft behind hockey broadcasting, this one’s for you. Episode 104: Suspension in Anaheim, Playoff Pressure in LA
Send us Fan MailA single reckless moment can change a season, and the way fans react can change the sport. We start with some quick life updates and a heads-up about next week: there’s no live stream, but we’ve got a special pre-recorded drop coming that you’ll want to hear. Then we get into the hockey, beginning with Anaheim Ducks news and Ryan Strome’s classy farewell before the conversation turns sharp. The heart of the show is our deep dive on the Radko Gudas suspension and the fallout from the knee-on-knee play that ends Auston Matthews’ year. We talk about how NHL Department of Player Safety discipline works, what five games really signals, and why “make them pay” takes are a dead end. Hockey is fast, emotional, and physical, but we draw a bright line between a bad competitive decision and anyone openly calling to target players like Leo Carlsson. That part matters as much as any box score. From there, we reset with LA Kings updates, including Anze Kopitar chasing franchise history, plus league news that spans everything from Olympic hockey players on Saturday Night Live to the Utah Mammoth extension for Nick Schmaltz and the Senators’ revised draft-pick penalty tied to the Dadonov trade mess. We wrap with detailed Ducks and Kings game recaps, recurring special teams problems, and two full weeks of predictions to carry you through the schedule. If you enjoy smart fan talk with real accountability, subscribe, share the show with a hockey friend, and leave us a rating and review so more Ducks and Kings fans can find Royally Quacked.Support the show-Links to all our socials and where to find the podcast: https://linktr.ee/royallyquacked-Check out all ESEN shows and content here: https://linktr.ee/ESENetworkJoin our Discord: https://discord.gg/MEx82G9Iron+Steel Threads: Use code RQ10 to save 10% on your order.https://ironsteelthreads.com/?ref=rqUse Promo Code: RQ10 for 10 % off your order. Episode 103: Ducks / Kings Buy? Sell? Why Not Both!
Send us Fan MailTrade phones buzzed, goal lights flashed, and SoCal hockey found two different gears. We break down why Anaheim keeps thriving in tight games—powered by elite shootout execution, a surge from Cutter Gauthier and Beckett Sennecke, and a bold blue line swing for John Carlson—while Los Angeles leans into a culture reset: DJ Smith steps behind the bench, Matt Greene joins the staff, and the front office turns aging miles into valuable draft picks and a needed center in Scott Laughton. We dig into the Ducks’ offensive layers that created clean looks on the power play and timely deflections, plus a gutsy 4-on-3 OT kill that said as much about leadership as any highlight. We weigh the Carlson trade’s logic—top-pair impact now vs. rental cost later—and how Anaheim’s right-side logjam could shape playoff matchups. Then we shift to the Kings’ identity pivot: more hits, more blocks, and a steadier defensive conscience that kept Colorado honest, alongside savvy asset management that moved Corey Perry for a premium pick and addressed faceoff depth with Laughton.Prospects got their spotlight too. Hampton Slukinski’s numbers and hardware track as a future NHL backbone for LA, while Anaheim’s youth continues to graduate from promise to production. We also map the standings swing: Ducks banking points through discipline and preparation, Kings aiming to convert structure into consistency. Along the way, you’ll get game-by-game context, stat takeaways, and how coaching, culture, and special teams are turning close games into statements. If you love smart hockey talk with real stakes—trades, tactics, and the little moments that tilt playoff odds—you’ll feel right at home. Bonus Episode: 2026 Trade Deadline Recap
Send us Fan MailTrades don’t just move players—they reveal how teams see their window. We dig into a wild NHL trade deadline where bold gambles, clever cap work, and gritty depth bets collided. The headline moves delivered plenty to unpack: Anaheim snagged John Carlson to stabilize a young blue line and supercharge special teams, Colorado reunited with Nazem Kadri to weaponize center depth, and Utah landed MacKenzie Weegar to anchor a defense with real identity. Behind those splashes were the quieter deals that decide spring hockey: Buffalo loading up on size and snarl, Dallas balancing reach with scoring touch, Minnesota stacking veteran blue line help, and Vegas hinting at a future goalie splash by shifting their pipeline. We share what these moves actually mean on the ice. For Anaheim, the Carlson fit is about right-shot minutes and where he quarterbacks the power play alongside LaCombe. Colorado’s depth becomes punishing if Kadri slides to 3C and drives matchups without sacrificing pace. Utah’s Weegar play was a franchise move—paying picks to win on AAV for a high-minute driver who makes partners better. We also spotlight LA’s efficient asset flip, Toronto’s cap housekeeping, Washington’s retooling, and why Edmonton’s tweaks might help on the margins but don’t change their ceiling. To make it practical, we grade role fits over name value, connect cap mechanics to roster balance, and map how these choices affect playoff series—board battles, defensive exits under pressure, second chances in the slot. We close by calling winners, losers, and the biggest shockers, then look ahead at the Ducks’ favorable schedule and how to use it to sharpen special teams and pairings before the stakes spike. If you enjoyed this deep-dive, follow the show, share it with a hockey friend, and leave a quick review—it helps more fans find smart, no-fluff analysis. Episode 102: Ducks Soar, Kings Stink and USA Sweeps Gold!
Send us Fan MailA golden goal, a louder save, and a flood of emotions that felt like destiny. We open with USA–Canada and live inside the game’s thinnest margins: why Canada’s shot share didn’t matter, how Hellebuyck’s angles and patience turned chaos into order, and the split‑second stick that erased a sure goal. Jack Hughes finishes the script, families hit the ice, and yes, there were tears. We balance the awe with detail—MVP chatter, all‑tournament picks, and the small decisions that win tournaments, from who dresses to who sits. That energy carries into the NHL week. We rewind a pivotal draft class to ask how archetypes shape teams: Boldy’s fit vs Zegras’ flair vs Turcotte’s path, and what those choices teach GMs now. Then it’s all rubber and boards—Kings blow a lead to Vegas and get steamrolled by Edmonton; Ducks stage wild comebacks against the Oilers and Jets. We dig into why: faceoff losses, weak layers, blocked shots, special teams swings, and the difference between possession and pressure. The verdict is blunt. LA needs heavier details and clarity behind the bench. Anaheim’s kids have juice, but the structure must protect the crease and turn chaos into repeatable chances.Trade season sharpens the stakes. We lay out realistic targets and costs, push back on rentals, and argue for moves that matter next year too. Want a true top‑pair defender or a two‑way goal threat? You’re paying with real pieces. We test packages, challenge valuations, and keep the rule that matters: don’t break the room to make a headline. Along the way, there’s a curling meme, a quick rules explainer, injury notes, and community love for upcoming tourneys.Hit play for a fast, candid breakdown that respects your time and your hockey brain. Episode 101: Panarin in Kings Gear, Ducks Back Skating, USA vs Canada for Gold
Send us Fan MailCoffee at dawn, hockey at full throttle. We dive into a week where the USA women authored a masterclass in control and composure, capped by Hilary Knight’s last-minute equalizer and Megan Keller’s smooth OT winner over Canada. Aerin Frankel’s poise set the tone, the skaters did the rest, and a new core proved they’re ready to keep the standard high even as a legend bows out.On the men’s side, the margins tightened and the drama spiked. We unpack the Czechia–Canada controversy around too-many-men, how Mitch Marner still found a backhand winner, and why Finland’s sit-back approach invited chaos against a relentless Canadian attack. Then it’s USA–Slovakia, where Jack Hughes carved the ice, the Tkachuk brothers dragged the game into their world, and the Americans punched their ticket with speed and edge. We talk why some stars shine brighter for their country than their club, how international ice and compressed schedules change decision-making, and which matchups will define USA–Canada at sunrise.Back home, we hit Ducks and Kings news with an eye on the trade window. Leo Carlsson and Frank Vatrano returning to practice offers Anaheim a late-season spark, while Petr Mrazek’s season-ending surgery opens cap flexibility and solidifies Ville Husso’s path. For the Kings, we weigh the upside and price of names like Elias Pettersson and Bobby McCann, plus the logic of a low-cost Jeff Skinner swing to fix finishing. The question isn’t just who you can get—it’s who actually fits the system without mortgaging tomorrow. We wrap with bold bronze and gold predictions, the goalie edge that could tilt USA–Canada, and the first NHL moves we expect once the freeze lifts. Episode 100: Olympic Chaos, Kings Injuries, Ducks RFAs & The Ultimate SoCal Super Team
Send us Fan MailA hundred episodes in, we decided to swing for the fences. We start with a quick pulse check on Los Angeles—Artemi Panarin will wear 72—and the tough news that Kevin Fiala underwent season-ending surgery, then dig into what that means for the Kings’ playoff odds, power-play rotations, and cap flexibility. From there, we zoom out to contract strategy: why a Brandt Clarke long-term deal at a rising cap might age beautifully, and how the Ducks can lock in Leo Carlsson and Cutter Gauthier without choking future space. Bridge deals for developing defense, bigger bets for cornerstone talent—this is where smart teams separate themselves. Then comes the fun: we build a combined Ducks–Kings roster designed to take on Colorado. We draft top-six lines with Leo’s vision feeding Panarin’s edges and Kempe’s speed, a rugged second unit around McTavish and Byfield, and Kopitar stabilizing a crafty scoring line. On the back end, Dowdy’s structure pairs with Lacombe’s calm, Mintyukov’s push balances Clarke’s quarterbacking, and Mikey Anderson brings the quiet stops every contender needs. In net, it’s a true 1A/1B with Dostal and Kuemper, riding form while keeping legs fresh for a deep run.Special teams can decide a series, so we map deliberate units: Byfield–Kempe and Anderson–Moore to kill entries, Kopitar–Paling to win the big draws, and two distinct power-play looks—Clarke up top on PP1 with Panarin and Kempe stretching seams, Leo distributing below the goal line; Lacombe on PP2 with Gauthier’s one-timer opposite Terry, and Fiala attacking the bumper slot. It’s all about handedness, retrievals, and pre-shot movement to lift shot quality, not just volume.Threaded throughout, we track Olympic men’s hockey—surprises, blowouts, and standout goaltending—plus the ever-controversial interference calls under IIHF rules. We also test trade fits and risk: retention math for Dougie Hamilton, the utility of Ryan O’Reilly, and the high-variance upside of Elias Pettersson. The throughline is simple: blend skill with structure, protect the slot, and build a cap table that bends but doesn’t break. If you enjoy smart roster talk, Olympic storylines, and a bold SoCal “superteam” experiment, hit follow, leave a review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify, and drop your ideal lines in the comments—who’s on your PP1 and why?Support the show-Links to all our socials and where to find the podcast: https://linktr.ee/royallyquacked-Check out all ESEN shows and content here: https://linktr.ee/ESENetworkJoin our Discord: https://discord.gg/MEx82G9Iron+Steel Threads: Use code RQ10 to save 10% on your order.https://ironsteelthreads.com/?ref=rqUse Promo Code: RQ10 for 10 % off your order. Episode 99- Panarin Joins the Kings, Ducks Plot Their Push, Olympic Hockey Arrives!
Send us Fan MailA quiet week off? Not even close. We came back to a league on tilt: Artemi Panarin chose Los Angeles, signed a buyout-proof two-year deal, and instantly changed how the Kings attack the stretch run. Meanwhile, the Ducks balanced a heartfelt farewell to a beloved superfan with a gritty push to keep a playoff spot, riding big nights from Cutter Gauthier, Mikael Granlund, and Jackson LaCombe while grinding through a maddening shutout loss and a satisfying sweep of Vegas. We pull apart the Panarin trade from every angle—return value, retention, and why a short, bonus-heavy extension makes sense for a win-now window. Then we get practical: best line fits to wake up Byfield, whether Kopitar-Kempe-Panarin becomes a sledgehammer, and how another center at the deadline could let Byfield slide back to wing for a deeper top six. On the Ducks side, we walk through clever reassignment moves during the Olympic freeze, spotlight a fourth line that hunts pucks and creates chaos, and track how special teams and defensive lapses can swing a game in four minutes flat.Across the league, the temperature spiked. William Nylander’s on-camera fine, outdoor-game mayhem with a goalie fight and a four-goal comeback, and a string of injuries and suspensions set the tone. We sift through under-the-radar trades that clear cap and hint at bigger moves after the freeze. The Olympics reshaped rosters, too, with Sweden, Canada, and Finland naming replacements, and a packed viewing slate that might preview international lines before NHL play resumes. Finally, we chart the playoff picture, highlight where Anaheim, Seattle, and LA are bunching up, and break down cap space as the true deadline weapon—Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Anaheim have room to strike, while LA kept just enough to address center depth. If you love smart hockey talk—line chemistry, prospect vs. proven star debates, cap strategy, and the little plays that win big games—you’ll feel right at home. Episode 98- LaCombe to Team USA, Goalie Saves, Goalie Goals and Goalie Fight!
Send us Fan MailA late-night show with early-morning energy: we open with laughs and jump straight into the week’s biggest swings for Ducks and Kings fans. Leo Carlsson’s thigh procedure casts doubt over Sweden’s Olympic plans, Mason McTavish exits late with an upper-body issue, and Jackson Lacombe earns a deserved call to Team USA thanks to smart role-for-role roster thinking. On the Kings side, trade watch heats up with Connor Garland and Evander Kane rumors, while Brandt Clark finds his groove and Quinton Byfield gets a firm challenge to drive play like a second-overall pick.Around the league, Vegas does Vegas—landing Rasmus Andersson and pushing chips in again—while the Sharks add Kiefer Sherwood to fuel a surprising push behind Macklin Celebrini’s spark. We pause on Linus Ullmark’s candid note about mental health after the Boston-to-Ottawa move, a reminder that behind every transaction is a person navigating real life. Contract updates for Alex Steeves and Josh Doan round out a busy ticker, and we kick the tires on a spicy idea: would you swap Alexis Lafrenière for Shane Wright straight up?The game recaps are pure adrenaline. Anaheim edges L.A. in OT on a brilliant 19-year-old stick lift into a two-on-one winner, then Cutter Gauthier bags a birthday brace to sweep the Rangers. Lukáš Dostál turns into a wall in Colorado, stoning 40 of 41 and keeping McKinnon and Makar off the sheet. Seattle surges late, but the Ducks’ structure holds for a six-game heater—a pattern backed by fewer goals against and calmer breakout habits. The Kings, living on a knife’s edge, finally win a shootout over the Blues with Trevor Moore back in the lineup, though special teams and late-game lapses remain the story. We close with grounded predictions, a quick standings snapshot, and a warm reminder about renewal, family milestones, and showing up for each other. Hit play for smart, fan-first hockey talk—trade rumors, injury updates, tactical takeaways, and the kind of game stories that stick. Episode 97- Ducks and Kings Breakdown: OT Drama & Trade Rumors
Send us Fan MailThe Freeway Faceoff delivered everything we love about SoCal hockey: pace, pushback, and a shootout finish that felt like a high-wire act. We break down how Mason McTavish turned patience into a hammer, how Beckett Sennecke’s hands changed the angle, and why Brandt Clarke’s confidence matters late. From tight 5-on-5 details to the psychology of slowing a goalie’s read, we unpack the moments that swung a rivalry game.Beyond the spotlight, both front offices have real decisions to make. Anaheim’s week brought an AHL All-Star for Tim Washe, a Jeffrey Viel trade, Troy Terry heading to IR, and Leo Carlson’s recovery timeline. Sam Colangelo’s net-front grit stands out in a lineup that wants more inside goals. Across the hall, the Kings face uncomfortable questions about Jim Hiller’s leash and Newell Brown’s power play while evaluating rumored targets like Travis Konecny, Owen Tippett, Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Alex Tuch, and Rasmus Andersson. We talk age curves, AAVs, and why rentals that don’t raise your playoff ceiling are a trap.We also zoom out: new alternate jersey colors teased for next season (green for Anaheim, purple for LA), Olympic test games that calmed ice concerns, and a string of league milestones and extensions that frame the market. The game recaps matter—LA gutting out a win in Edmonton, Dallas splitting the SoCal back-to-back, Vegas nicking LA in OT, and Buffalo weathering Anaheim’s late surge—but the theme is bigger. Winning now is about layers: inside ice, screen timing, controlled entries, and letting high-skill players make the last touch under pressure. If you’re here for strategy, trade logic, or just to relive a ridiculous shootout, you’ll feel right at home. Tap play, then tell us: who should your team chase at the deadline, and which alternate color do you want to see on the ice? Episode 96: Kings Banged Up, Ducks Spiraling, and Utah Goes Outdoor
Send us Fan MailA brutal stretch for SoCal hockey turns into a candid therapy session and a scouting report rolled into one. We open with the Ducks’ eight-game slide and the growing nerves around Cutter Gauthier’s extension, then challenge the logic of chasing the wrong trade targets while scratching one of the few consistent forwards in Ryan Strome. Waivers for Nikita Nesterenko and a goalie shuffle with Mrazek to IR and Husso back up only added to the churn. The pattern is clear: Anaheim often strikes first, then drifts, and a fragile middle frame buries them.Across the freeway, the Kings somehow took two smart wins off the Wild before laying an egg in Winnipeg. Injuries to Kopitar and Trevor Moore forced call-ups and a reliance on structure over spark, but the special teams slide is becoming a weekly headline. The bright spots help—Brandt Clarke’s swagger, Alex Turcotte’s pop, and flashes from Kuzmenko—but Quinton Byfield’s offense remains the swing factor. He wins pucks and tracks like a center you trust; the finishing and usage need a nudge to unlock the ceiling everyone saw. We also break down a Zegras revenge night in Philly, a controversial goal reversal vs San Jose, and what slow-motion reviews get wrong about real-time intent.Around the league, we touch on fresh extensions, a poignant goodbye to Hall-of-Famer Glenn Hall and his impossible 502-game streak, and early Olympic roster reveals. Episode 95- Ducks Are Sinking, Kings Get Kuemper Olympic Rosters Revealed!
Send us Fan MailA rivalry rout, a painful pattern, and a few bright sparks set the stage for one of our most candid shows yet. We open on the Kings’ 6–1 statement over the Ducks and the Sharks’ five-goals-on-13-shots stunner, then rewind the tape to ask why Anaheim keeps spotting teams the first goal and how that habit wrecks structure, special teams, and momentum. On the other side, we talk through the Kings’ identity tug-of-war: a reliable defensive base that still needs more bite on the power play and a stronger finishing mindset from their big bodies and young skill. From there we get into specifics. What does “start on time” actually look like shift by shift? Fewer high-risk breakouts, tighter neutral zone routes, and shots that create rebounds instead of finessed passes to nowhere. We make the case for pairing a true shutdown righty with a puck-moving lefty to calm the Ducks’ blue line, and we outline how LA’s penalty kill can tighten the slot without conceding the flanks. Quinton Byfield’s role comes up too: when he drives the net and shoots off the rush, the entire top six looks different. When he defers, the offense stalls. Then it’s Olympic roster fever. Canada’s forward core is terrifying, but the crease is a debate—Logan Thompson’s form versus Darcy Kuemper’s experience. Team USA chose balance over star scoring, leaving out Jason Robertson and stirring real questions about where clutch goals will come from in a short tournament. We highlight how international reps could unlock another level for Leo Carlsson and Lukas Dostal, and why Sweden’s goaltending tandem might be the quiet edge no one is talking about. We wrap with predictions, practical fixes, and your comments from live chat. Episode 94: World Juniors Kick Off, Ducks Eye Trades & Kings Lose Bergevin to Buffalo
Send us Fan MailSouthern California hockey brought big feelings this week: a front-office shakeup in LA, trade buzz in Anaheim, and a pair of games that showed how special teams and shot quality can flip a scoreboard. We start with community—holiday check-ins, shoutouts, and a push to hit our subscriber goal—then head straight into the real changes. Marc Bergevin heads to Buffalo for a bigger role, while Jim Hiller steps into direct power play control. It’s overdue, and the timing says it all: the Kings can’t keep living on one or two goals and expect deep spring hockey.Across the freeway, the Ducks have ambition. With OC Vibe construction in motion and the Wild Wing statue on the move, the bigger conversation is roster direction. We unpack why a move for Jordan Kyrou or Robert Thomas would rewire Anaheim’s forward core, slot cleanly behind Leo Carlsson, and stabilize the power play with speed and distribution. We also touch on Ryan Strome’s trade chatter and how center depth, cap planning, and term shape smart decisions.Game stories bring receipts. LA’s losses to Seattle highlighted a painful pattern—outshooting but failing to finish, ceding special teams momentum, and blocking too few shots. Anaheim outplayed the Kraken 5-on-5 and still got goalied by Philipp Grubauer, then edged Columbus with timely pushes and better net-front presence. We zoom in on how both teams can fix their power plays: more movement through the bumper, better weak-side seams, and a heavier screen game. Then it’s on to World Juniors, where names like Carter George, Liam Greentree, and multiple Ducks prospects flashed the future with composed transitions and sharp reads. We wrap with predictions, a nuanced Fantilli vs Carlsson snapshot, and a candid case for change in LA: let Byfield drive offense, modernize the system, and swap “safe” for “dangerous.” Anaheim’s path is about layers—keep the rush, add cycle pressure, and convert shot volume into goals. ’Twas the Night Before Christmas — Royally Quacked Edition
Send us Fan Mail’Twas the Night Before Christmas — Royally Quacked EditionA Ducks vs. Kings Holiday Tale’Twas the night before Christmas across Southern CA,Where two hockey worlds lived just a freeway away. The bright lights of Los Angeles shimmered with pride,While Orange County glowed softly with coastline beside. The sweaters were hung in the locker rooms with care,In hopes that a rivalry showdown soon would be there. The Ducks were nestled in Anaheim, snug in their beds,While visions of breakaways danced in their heads.Carlsson with his mitts, and Dostal in net,Dreamed of highlight‑reel moments they hadn’t pulled off yet.McTavish was ready, his shot sharp and true,Terry imagined the magic he’d soon skate into.Mintyukov and Zellweger, blue‑line youth on the rise,Brought speed and creativity that dazzled the eyes.Gauthier’s fierce stride, Gudas’s tough tone,And LaCombe, steady‑skating in a style of his own.All guided by Coach Q, with his confident plan,Shaping a Ducks squad with belief in each man.Up north in L.A., the Kings rested too,Plotting crisp zone entries and a forecheck or two.Kopitar’s leadership, Byfield’s long stride,And Clarke’s booming slapshot filled them with pride.Kempe dreamed of snipes, Fiala of flair,While Kuemper stood ready with a calm, steady stare.Moore brought the hustle, Turcotte brought the speed,And Anderson defended with toughness the Kings always need. All sharpened by Coach Jim Hiller’s guiding mind,Steering the Kings toward the goals they’d designed. When out on the ice there arose such a clatter,Both teams hit the rink to see what was the matter. The Zamboni lights glowed, the arena hummed low,And two familiar figures glided out in the snow.It was Bailey, mane flowing, with a mischievous grin,Strutting to center ice like he knew he would win.And Wild Wing, descending from the rafters on a zip line so clean,Landing in style like the star of the scene.Together they hollered with unfiltered delight,“Royally Quacked fans, gather ’round for the night!”They spoke of a season both fierce and electric,Of overtime thrillers and goals so poetic.Of Ducks youth risSupport the show-Links to all our socials and where to find the podcast: https://linktr.ee/royallyquacked-Check out all ESEN shows and content here: https://linktr.ee/ESENetworkJoin our Discord: https://discord.gg/MEx82G9Iron+Steel Threads: Use code RQ10 to save 10% on your order.https://ironsteelthreads.com/?ref=rqUse Promo Code: RQ10 for 10 % off your order. Episode 93: The Return, The Injury, The Trade and Christmas Wishes!
Send us Fan MailHockey rarely grants tidy weeks, and this one came wrapped in chaos. We kick off with festive energy and a spotlight on creators keeping SoCal fans informed before diving straight into the turbulence: Anaheim’s goalie shuffle as Petr Mrazek returns and Lukas Dostal reclaims the net, Leo Carlson’s tear that evokes Teemu-era memories, and a hard-but-fair fine for Frank Vatrano after a dust-up with Jason Robertson. Then we celebrate a franchise voice—Steve Carroll’s 2,000th Ducks call—because some milestones deserve a loud cheer.Over in LA, the tone shifts. Darcy Kuemper hits IR, Phoenix Copley returns on emergency, and a salary-clearing Philip Deneault trade hints at a bigger swing post-roster freeze. We take inventory of the Kings’ pipeline across the OHL, WHL, and NCAA, from Carter George’s resilience to Liam Greentree’s steady punch to Denver’s assembly line of contributors. There’s even a number-nerd detour: Adrian Kempe chose nine for Fernando Torres, a reminder that sports loyalties cross oceans.Game stories carry the week’s weight. The Ducks stumble in Newark, stun the Rangers at MSG, claw back to OT in Columbus before Adam Fantilli walks off three-on-one, and absorb an eight-goal reality check from Dallas despite equal shots. The Kings ride a familiar rollercoaster: overtime heartbreak vs Calgary, a tough loss in Dallas, a tight setback vs Florida, and a cathartic 2–1 win in Tampa behind an Adrian Kempe brace and a fortress of shot blocks. Along the way, we hit broader NHL notes—Pittsburgh sale talks, roster freeze timing, injury timelines, and pick-shuffling trades—plus a bright piece of theater: Kings–Ducks in full color rush, a look the league should greenlight more often. We close with solutions, not sighs. LA needs goals beyond Kempe and a sharper power play; a coaching philosophy that unlocks Fiala and Byfield might be the fastest lever. Anaheim needs a true top-four defensive stopper to steady Zellweger and Lacombe and lift special teams back to respectable. Predictions are set, wish lists sent, and the holiday spirit stays intact. Episode 92- Clutch Ducks, Scoring Kings and a Wild Trade!
Send us Fan MailA shorthanded equalizer with 0.1 on the clock, a 6–0 shutout, and a tripping call on a goalie that flipped a finish—this week had everything. We dive into the Ducks’ offensive burst behind Leo Carlsson, Beckett Sennecke, and Troy Terry, plus Lukáš Dostál’s return and the delicate waiver dance with Ville Husso. On the other side, the Kings finally uncorked goals against Chicago and leaned on Brandt Clarke’s surge from the blue line, only to see late-game whistles cloud a gritty trip to Seattle. We zoom out to the world juniors, where both pipelines look stacked. The Kings send a wave of talent across USA, Finland, Czechia, and Slovakia; the Ducks lock in key Swedish invites. Why it matters: WJC ice is the best read on who drives play under pressure—and who jumps a development tier before spring. We also unpack the week’s cap and roster mechanics, from emergency recalls to the 10-game waiver threshold, making sense of how front offices protect depth while chasing points. Then we tackle the earthquake: Quinn Hughes to Minnesota for a haul. Would the Kings or Ducks have matched it? What’s the right price when a top-two defenseman changes your breakout, power play, and ceiling overnight? We examine fit, not just value, and how each team’s identity should guide big swings. And yes, we argued jerseys too: Dallas’ third looks ready to be a primary, Boston edges Tampa in the stadium set, and color-on-color continues its comeback—when letters don’t replace logos.Come for the highlights and heat checks; stay for the practical takeaways. For L.A., it’s simplifying the power play and getting Byfield attacking downhill. For Anaheim, it’s riding Carlsson’s pace, feeding Sennecke in motion, and letting Dostál calm the crease. Hit play, then tell us: were those late penalties legit or game-changers that shouldn’t stand? Episode 90- Freeway Face Off, Perry s Return & Thankful Thanksgiving
Send us Fan MailThe Pacific Division just got spicy again. A chaotic Orange Friday shootout, an OT heist against Vegas, and a razor-thin loss to Vancouver set the stage for a week where identity and execution mattered on every shift. We break down why Anaheim suddenly scores in waves—Leo Carlsson threading passes, Jackson Lacombe and Olen Zellweger jumping into lanes, and Cutter Gauthier punishing turnovers—and how Troy Terry and Chris Kreider are reshaping the power play into a real threat. With Lukáš Dostál sidelined, we dig into Ville Husso’s timely composure, Petr Mrazek’s steadiness, and the quiet fingerprints of goalie coach Peter Budaj on every key save.On the other bench, the Kings squeezed out a hard-earned regulation win and pushed the rivalry game to the brink behind Brandt Clarke’s poise and Kevin Fiala’s relentless shot creation. But questions loom: can Quinton Byfield turn posts into points, and when will LA’s power play evolve from careful to dangerous? We talk systems, risk tolerance, and why “playing not to lose” caps the ceiling in a conference that demands more. Add in a lively look around the league—suspensions, signings, trade prices—and an eye on the Ontario Reign’s youth wave, and you’ve got a full snapshot of where both franchises stand. This episode is also a thank-you note: to the listeners who show up live, to the creators who boost our signal, and to the hockey community that turns a freeway into a bond. Episode 89: Kempe Signs Long-Term, Doughty Injured Again, Ducks Youth Impresses
Send us Fan MailA franchise declares who it is when it chooses certainty over churn, and that’s exactly what we unpack as the Kings lock in Adrian Kempe on a 10-year deal with a savvy, bonus-heavy structure. We get into why that number and term make sense relative to his two-way value, how the no-move and no-trade protections frame the next era, and what it signals about retool talk. Then the plot twists: Doughty’s toe puts Brant Clarke center stage, the defensive metrics trend up, but timely finishing and special teams decide three razor-thin results.Across town, the Ducks face a different kind of tension: a promising blue line that doesn’t have enough nightly seats. We lay out the real choices around Pavel Mintyukov—AHL reps to rebuild rhythm, rotation with clear standards, or exploring value—while spotlighting Ian Moore’s poise on his off side and Olen Zellweger’s OT killer instinct. Cutter Gauthier and Leo Carlson keep stacking milestones, yet PK leaks against Boston show where precision still matters. It’s a week of last-minute equalizers, gutsy goaltending, and the kind of 3-on-3 reads that show which prospects think the game at NHL speed. We widen the lens with quick hits from around the league: timely extensions, tough injuries, Hellebuyck’s procedure, and the IIHF’s move to mandate neck guards at the 2026 Olympics. And yes, we make the full case for more color-on-color games after that gorgeous Red Wings vs Rangers showcase—why select matchups pop on TV, how to avoid clashes, and how rituals like Halloween and Black Friday could become visual events in Southern California. If you care about roster building, development paths, and the tiny details that swing one-goal games, this one’s for you. Episode 88: Ducks Streak Snapped, Kings Catch Fire
Send us Fan MailThe pace is up, the hits are down, and the plot is thick. Southern California hockey just delivered a week that flipped expectations: Anaheim punched above its weight behind Leo Carlson’s surge, while LA leaned on Corey Perry’s unlikely spark and Quentin Byfield’s OT touch to steal points in tough buildings. We sift through the noise to find the real signals—why the Ducks look legitimate even in a loss to Colorado, and how the Kings’ home/away split reveals a physical and special teams gap they can still close. We start with a heater in Vegas and a tidy win over Winnipeg that showcased Anaheim’s maturing habits: controlled entries, smarter shot selection, and a second unit that finally threatens. Then it’s a reality check against the Avalanche that still offered value—discipline matters and details decide. On the Kings’ side, Kuzmenko’s scratch wasn’t drama for drama’s sake; it was a jolt meant to reset a skilled winger. Perry’s edge game changed tone in LA, drawing cheers from fans who once loathed him, and Byfield’s confidence is creeping into decisive moments. That sets up a bigger conversation: extend Adrian Kempe now or risk deadline roulette? We break down comps, leverage, and what a late deal could cost.League-wide notes round out the picture with injuries and signings that ripple through matchups and power plays. Then we dive into game-by-game breakdowns with what actually moved the needle: Ducks’ special teams swings, Kings’ blocked-shot deficit, and which lines drove momentum. The rivalry stakes are rising, too—there’s a January back-to-back circled in bold. Expect more of what makes this fun: hard minutes for young defenders, elite pace from Anaheim’s top line, and LA’s structure grinding down mistakes. If you’re here for the story behind the scores—development arcs, contract dynamics, and why standings in mid-November matter—you’ll feel right at home. Subscribe, share with a fellow fan, and drop us your take: are the Ducks ready for a playoff run, and what would you pay to keep Kempe in LA? Episode 87- Doughty All Time Goals Leader For Kings & Ducks Still Flying High!
Send us Fan MailSeven goals. Twice. A hat trick. A shutout. And a fanbase arguing about short-handed goals against. This week gave us everything: Anaheim’s young core exploding for highlight after highlight, Los Angeles flashing brilliance one night and bleeding momentum the next, and a league full of surprises that actually matter when you zoom into the numbers. We start with Ducks fireworks: Leo Carlsson’s playmaking has turned zone entries into scoring chances on command, while Cutter Gauthier’s release is already dictating penalty-kill coverage and opening space for Vatrano, Terry, and Kreider. Add Dostal’s timely saves and Lacombe’s blue line poise, and you get back-to-back seven-goal wins, and a season sweep of the defending champs. The takeaway is bigger than a hot streak: chemistry and scheme finally match the roster. Keep it intact, target age-aligned upgrades only, and add defensive layers to survive playoff pressure. Then, the Kings. Kuemper’s shutout over Winnipeg was stellar, Doughty’s record was deserved, and Perry’s energy is real. But the trends you can’t ignore are the shorties against and the identity tug-of-war between a defense-first system and a roster that needs faster, bolder support through the middle. We break down where the power play is leaking, what structural tweaks could fix it, and where the coaching conversation turns from patience to decision.Around the league, we hit the moments that matter: milestone goals, eye-catching sweaters in Utah, injuries and personal leaves that ripple through standings, and the latest awards watch. If you care about how trends become outcomes—youth acceleration, systems fit, and trade timing—this one’s for you.If you’re riding the Ducks’ surge or fretting the Kings’ inconsistencies, jump in. Follow, share with a hockey friend, and leave a quick review to help more fans find the show. Episode 86- Ducks spoil Gibsons return, Kings break point record!
Send us Fan MailA week like this doesn’t just hand us headlines; it tests what we believe about two very different SoCal trajectories. We kick off with the Kings’ strange run of banking points without regulation wins and why that stat can hide bigger issues, from penalty trouble to shot suppression. Then we pivot to Anaheim’s surge: a faster, cleaner transition game powered by Leo Carlson’s playmaking, Troy Terry’s finishing touch, and Mason McTavish’s bully-in-traffic mindset. Mix in the emotions of John Gibson’s return and a shootout masterclass in Florida, and you’ve got a fascinating snapshot of where the Ducks are going. We also zoom out to the wider NHL. Milestones matter—Kucherov at 1,000, Hedman at 800, and Crosby’s march to 1,700—because they frame the standard stars must chase. Meanwhile, long-term contracts for Thomas Harley, Logan Cooley, and Martin Necas tell the real cap-era story: smart teams lock core skill for eight years and build around it. We debate the Frozen Frenzy concept too and make the case for a staggered, all-day slate that actually grows the pie for fans, fantasy nerds, and casual viewers.Game recaps bring it all home. Ducks-Lightning and Ducks-Panthers show how a sturdy goalie and opportunistic special teams can tilt tight margins. Kings-Predators and Kings-Sharks reveal the tension between LA’s offensive depth and their tendency to sit in the box and bleed shots. Still, there are bright lights: Brant Clark’s confidence, Alex Turcotte’s touches, and yes, Corey Perry’s net-front edge sparking real offense in LA. We end with bold predictions, a standings health check, and a few surprises that might not be flukes. If you’re here for insight, laughs, and honest takes on what’s real vs. early-season noise, you’re in the right spot. Episode 85- Scorey Perry is Back In Black! Is Ross the Boss!?
Send us Fan MailA week of chaos delivered the most fun kind of hockey: wild momentum swings, unlikely heroes, and a scoreboard that wouldn’t sit still. We open with real life—on-call shifts, long drives, and coffee-fueled nights—then jump straight into the ice where the Ducks and Kings each wrote their own kind of comeback story. For Anaheim, the road trip turned into a showcase. Cutter Gauthier looks every bit the natural finisher, Leo Carlsson carries himself like a veteran play-driver, and Mason McTavish keeps sniping through impossible windows. Ross “the Boss” Johnston shocked the room with a Gordie Howe hat trick, while Michael Granlund erupted for his first five-point night as a Duck and Nikita Nesterenko piled up four assists in Boston. The power play still needs polish and the backup crease saw too many pucks, but the kids are pushing the pace and answering every mistake with punchback. The Kings lived on the edge and made it work. Adrian Kempe buried an overtime winner in Dallas with a bold horns-down celebration, Corey Perry got greasy in the blue paint for his first as a King, and LaFerriere found twine at last. The penalty kill has to tighten, and giveaways are flirting with danger, yet the top six keeps creating, right-shot D keep jumping into lanes, and Darcy Kuemper’s steadying hand stole a result they needed. We also put the spotlight on fan energy. Nashville’s chants reminded us what a loud barn can do. The Ducks’ Coach Bombay jacket as player-of-the-game keeps the vibe playful and specific. We pitch practical ways to make arenas more alive and three-on-three overtime less of a keep-away drill and more of a creativity stage. Add in league-wide beats—throwback sweaters, Marchand being Marchand, injury shuffles, and contract chatter—and you’ve got a full-ice view of a season heating up.If you’re into honest recaps, sharp takes, and a few laughs between goals, press play now. Episode 84- Kreider Shines! Kings Decline!
Send us Fan MailA week of Southern California hockey delivered everything: a Ducks road rollercoaster that turned into a statement OT win, a home-opener surge powered by net-front grit, and a Kings team battling penalties, pairing problems, and a second-period slump. We dig into why Anaheim’s offense looks sustainable—Kreider’s screens and tips, McTavish’s engine, Leo Carlson’s calm playmaking—and how the new alternates split is building a leadership core that matches their identity. When a power play adds a crease specialist and a young distributor, you don’t just score prettier goals, you bank harder ones.On the LA side, the pieces are there: Byfield’s point pace, Fiala’s creativity, and a faceoff edge even against Crosby. The fixes are clear too. Reduce penalties that hand momentum away, re-balance the blue line so Brandt Clarke can drive transition minutes, and let a sturdier partner calm Cody Ceci’s swings. We talk Doughty–Anderson matchups, blocked-shot gaps, and the small decisions that turn one-goal losses into points.Around the league, we hit the biggest ripples: Lane Hutson’s team-friendly extension and what it signals in Montreal, the Rangers’ early home scoring drought, a thicket of injuries reshaping contenders, and the familiar frustration of uneven officiating on dangerous stick work. It all ties back to one question: which teams have a plan that survives rough nights?Come for the game recaps; stay for the line chemistry, special teams tweaks, and honest fixes both clubs can make right now. If you’re riding the Ducks’ momentum or begging for a Kings reset, you’ll leave with clarity, numbers, and a few spicy takes. Like what you hear? Episode 83- Hockey is Officially Back!!! with Former 21st Duck Trent Sullivan
Send us Fan MailA rivalry podcast is only fun if the punches land and the hugs do too. We kick off with Ducks and Kings headlines—injuries, waivers, and the Lacombe deal in Anaheim; staffing shifts, IR moves, and Kempe’s price tag in LA—then zoom out to a league buzzing with suspensions, fines, and mega-extensions. Connor McDavid’s short bridge, Jack Eichel’s long bet, and cap gymnastics around LTIR set the tone for a season where windows and wagers matter. We also talk aesthetics, because they always do: third jerseys, chrome-adjacent helmets, and why design can change how a game feels on TV and in the building. On the ice, the Kings stumble against Colorado before dragging Vegas into chaos and winning a shootout that showcases Eichel’s star power and Dorofeyev’s finishing. The Ducks, meanwhile, outplay Seattle early but get clogged by 26 blocked shots and lose the special teams edge they needed. We break down the details—shot quality, faceoffs, penalty kill form—and make clear-eyed predictions for the week ahead, from home opener vibes to schedule traps. Then the room goes quiet for the moment that matters most. Trent Sullivan, the Anaheim Ducks’ 21st Duck, shares a life lived at full tilt: a heart transplant at five months old, a kidney transplant in his teens, a pacemaker after COVID-era monitoring, and a terrifying colostomy followed by a hard-won reversal. Through it all, he finds joy in small rituals—The Office quotes, Legos, chocolate milk—and big communities, from concourse meetups to the night Teemu Selanne surprised him with a jersey. His goal is as bold as any Cup run: to set a longevity record with his first transplanted heart and keep showing up for the people and team he loves.Come for the banter and breakdowns; stay for a story that reframes what belonging sounds like in a loud arena. Episode 82: LaCombe & McTavish Sign! 25/26 NHL Divisional Standings Predictions! Ft. Special Guests
Send us Fan MailHockey never moves in straight lines, and that’s exactly why this one’s so much fun. We bring two fanbases under one roof and go deep on what actually shifts a season: the Ducks locking in Mason McTavish and Jackson Lacombe as cornerstone pieces, the emotional and tactical fallout from Trevor Zegras landing in Philadelphia, and the precise tweaks the Kings need to finally power past the first round. We’re not hand-waving; we’re talking usage, special teams, depth minutes, and the small edges that become springtime margins. From there, we zoom out to the league. Who truly improved? Tampa’s spine and continuity vs. Florida’s injury bets, Toronto’s star power vs. goaltending trust, and Carolina adding the top-six finisher they’ve craved. In the West, we weigh Dallas’s regular-season machine against Colorado’s playoff ceiling, and why Vegas keeps finding the exact star archetype to amplify Jack Eichel. The Pacific debate gets spicy: where the Kings’ playable fourth line and calmer PK can buy them wins, why Edmonton’s thinner role players may matter more than anyone admits, and whether Vancouver’s health swings will define their year. Utah’s growth curve, Minnesota’s window, and Winnipeg’s goalie-led floor all get measured against reality, not hype.We make clear, accountable predictions for every division and plant our flags on Cup paths, then cap it with a clean listener hook: a Celebrini vs. Bedard points bet and why situation often beats raw talent for year-one impact. Along the way, expect candid laughs, honest disagreements, and a stack of receipts you’ll want to revisit in April. If you’re a Kings or Ducks fan—or just a curious NHL diehard—this episode is your roadmap to the season ahead.Enjoyed this breakdown? Episode 81: Ducks & Kings Training Camp / Preseason Games and Mctavish finally signed!!
Send us Fan MailHockey fever returns to Southern California as the Kings and Ducks battle through preseason, giving fans their first taste of what's to come in the 2024-25 NHL campaign. The biggest story emerging from Anaheim comes with Mason McTavish finally ending his contract standoff, signing a six-year deal worth $7 million annually. This agreement puts to rest weeks of frustration among Ducks faithful who witnessed previous young stars like Zegras and Drysdale struggle after missing valuable training camp time. The timing allows their promising center to integrate with new coach Joel Quenneville's system before meaningful games begin. On the ice, Los Angeles has jumped to a perfect 3-0 preseason record, including two victories over their rivals from Orange County. While exhibition results rarely translate to regular season success, several Kings prospects have seized their opportunity. Carter George has been stellar between the pipes, while Alex Turcott and Jeff Millot appear ready to claim roster spots, particularly with Corey Perry sidelined. The Kings' depth scoring and improved backup goaltending from Anton Forsberg should encourage fans heading into October. The Ducks (1-2) have shown flashes of potential, particularly in their dominant 6-1 win over Utah where Matthew Phillips netted two goals and Jackson LaCombe contributed three assists. However, offensive consistency remains elusive, as evidenced by their 14-shot performance in a shutout loss to LA. The bright spot continues to be Lukas Dostal's development in net.League-wide, significant injuries to stars like Jamie Benn (collapsed lung) and Aleksander Barkov (season-ending knee surgery) have reshaped expectations for their respective teams. Meanwhile, frustrations mount regarding Victory Plus broadcasts, where technical issues plague the viewing experience for dedicated fans. What team will rise in the Pacific Division this season? Will McTavish live up to his contract? Can the Kings' prospect pipeline deliver another playoff run? Registration closes September 18th, so there's still time to sign up and participate in this worthy event.Support the show-Links to all our socials and where to find the podcast: https://linktr.ee/royallyquacked-Check out all ESEN shows and content here: https://linktr.ee/ESENetworkJoin our Discord: https://discord.gg/MEx82G9Iron+Steel Threads: Use code RQ10 to save 10% on your order.https://ironsteelthreads.com/?ref=rqUse Promo Code: RQ10 for 10 % off your order. Episode 76- The Ultimate NHL Showdown: Gary's Beast in the East Meets Cody's Best of the West!
Send us Fan MailHockey fans dream of fantasy matchups, but what happens when you pit the entire Eastern Conference against the Western Conference? We decided to find out by building ultimate all-star teams with one crucial twist: we had to select exactly one player from each NHL team. After a coin flip determined our fates, Gary took command of the Eastern Conference (represented by Kings-themed jerseys) while Cody assembled the Western Conference squad (with Ducks-inspired uniforms). The challenge of selecting just one player per team forced us to make fascinating strategic choices – do you prioritize a superstar from one team, knowing you'll have to use a lesser player from another?Gary constructed an Eastern powerhouse featuring Auston Matthews, Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin, and Nikita Kucherov, with Igor Shesterkin between the pipes. Cody's Western squad countered with the deadly combination of Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Nathan MacKinnon, and Cale Makar, backed by Connor Hellebuyck in goal. Both teams looked unstoppable on paper, but only one could prevail. We took these dream teams into NHL 25 for best of 7 game simulation, and despite Gary's Eastern squad taking the first game 4-2, my Western Conference team rallied to win four straight, clinching the series 4-1. McDavid and Draisaitl dominated with eight points each, while Matthews led the East with seven. The most surprising revelation? Gary somehow forgot to include 2 big Stars. a crucial oversight that might have cost him!The episode also covers the latest NHL news, including Olympics orientation camp invites for Drew Doughty, Quinton Byfield, Chris Kreider and Jackson LaCombe, plus updates on the Ducks' ongoing contract negotiations with Mason McTavish.Think you could build better conference teams? Send us your rosters and we might simulate your matchup in a future episode!Support the show-Links to all our socials and where to find the podcast: https://linktr.ee/royallyquacked-Check out all ESEN shows and content here: https://linktr.ee/ESENetworkJoin our Discord: https://discord.gg/MEx82G9Iron+Steel Threads: Use code RQ10 to save 10% on your order.https://ironsteelthreads.com/?ref=rqUse Promo Code: RQ10 for 10 % off your order.
