Same Movie Every Week

Two brothers living in different parts of the state use the powers of the internet to not only communicate with each other but also conduct a fun experiment in the process. That experiment is to watch the exact same movie once a week, every week, for an entire calendar year. For 2026, they have chosen Detective Pikachu. Will they find new angles to talk about this film, or will they run out of things to say and go crazy two months in? Listen along to find out.

Detective Pikachu Week Eighteen: Is It Copaganda?

This week, Harrison and Ethan return to examine 2019's Detective Pikachu as a piece of copaganda. They examine it through the lens of Sherlock Holmes's relationship with Scotland Yard and their function in those stories and how they relate to Detective Pikachu. They also attempt to break down copaganda as a whole and how this movie specifically falls into the landscape. Eighteen weeks in, and the brothers are still loving the ride.

Detective Pikachu Week Seventeen: Creating the World of Detective Pikachu Documentary

The Poole Brothers are back again to dissect 2019's Pokémon Detective Pikachu, and for this week, they finish with their journey through the bonus content with the 20-minute documentary "Creating the World of Detective Pikachu." They make comments on some behind-the-scenes information revealed as well as question everything they once thought they knew about the movie when it is revealed that there is a full 3D rendering of a Kingler that is not used outside of a still image. There're also a couple long tangents in this one that touch various topics loosely related to the movie at hand. It's a good time, and both brothers are happy to be on it.

Detective Pikachu Week Sixteen: Bonus Special Features

This week, brothers Harrison and Ethan Poole examine the extra bonus features on the Blu-Ray disc. They decide to hold off on the 20-minute-long Making Of documentary until next week so they examine everything else the disc has to offer. This includes a Mr. Mime audio commentary that makes Harrison irrationally angry, Outside the Actors Studio with Ryan Reynolds, a Rita Ora music video, and an uncomfortably horny alternate open to Detective Pikachu. Ethan watched this week on Detective Mode to try to get all the information he can, and Harrison will do the same next week. They both still enjoying the ride that is watching the Same Movie Every Week.

  4. 10

Detective Pikachu Week Fifteen: Viewing the Film Through a Capitalist Lens

This week, the brothers return to find a new angle in which to view the 2019 masterpiece Detective Pikachu. In honor (or possibly in horror) of tax season, they decided to take a look at the views expressed through the lens of capitalism, baby. Does being rich make you evil? Does being working class making you good? How does the commerce of Ryme City seem to function? Harrison and Ethan discuss this and more on their fifteenth week in a row watching the movie. Harrison regrets nothing about this idea yet.

  5. 9

Detective Pikachu Week Fourteen: The First Official Check-in

The Poole brothers have a bigger idea for next week's concept so this week, they decided to take a moment to check in with each other about how they're feeling about the podcast, what they think a future might look like, and toss out some ideas that haven't fit into prior episode concepts thus far. Some of their thoughts are more related to the franchise as a whole as they attempt to relate it to the movie specifically. It's more of a low-key episode but no less important to the project as a whole.

  6. 8

Detective Pikachu Week Thirteen: Featuring Special Guest Philip Arledge

This week, the Poole brothers are joined by Ethan's childhood best friend Philip Arledge. Philip gives his insights alongside the brothers from the perspective of somebody who has never played a Pokémon game and has never seen an episode of the show. Does Detective Pikachu work from a complete outsider's view? Do you need a certain amount of background information to enjoy it? Will Harrison's plan for an April Fool's Day prank on the guest actually happen, or will he be vetoed? Listen to find that out and more. Harrison and Ethan also give a detailed explanation as to where each of them is in their specific viewing journey with Detective Pikachu.

  7. 7

Detective Pikachu Week Twelve: Is It Fanfiction?

The Poole brothers have returned to once again dissect 2019's Detective Pikachu. Fresh off award season, they jump right into another lens in which to analyze the film and ask the question "Is Detective Pikachu fanfiction?" as well as "What even is a meaningful definition of fanfiction?" Harrison and Ethan use their degrees in Film and English/History to toss around some theories before landing on a definition they both find more useful and specific than what might be broadly accepted. Ethan is still back onboard the Detective Pikachu train, and Harrison never left his seat.

  8. 6

Detective Pikachu Week Eleven: The Detective Pikachu Awards

The brothers announce the winners of last week's nominees for the seven categories of The Detective Pikachu Awards, the most prestigious award show ever invented. They also make claims as to whether and where Detective Pikachu should've been nominated for the 2020 Oscars, only to discover it was the Parasite year, and the competition was quite stiff. They also give their already expired predictions for who won the Oscars this past Sunday. Are they right? Are they wrong? Even if Oscar talk isn't your thing, come experience the first annual Detective Pikachu Awards, again, the most prestigious award ceremony ever invented by man.

  9. 5

Detective Pikachu Week Ten: The Detective Pikachu Awards Nominations

This week, the boys come together to create the most real and most serious award show ever: The Detective Pikachu Awards. And, like any good award show, the nominations and presentations are two separate weeks. Harrison and Ethan come up with around seven categories with four nominees in each to award to the winner next week. Ethan is back on board the Detective Pikachu viewing train, and Harrison is ecstatic.

  10. 4

Detective Pikachu Week Nine: Examining Partner Pokémon

This week, Harrison and Ethan take a look at all the various partner Pokémon of the human characters within 2019's Detective Pikachu. They provide a Doylist and Watsonian explanation and theory as to why certain Pokémon were chosen for specific characters. They also give their thoughts on the recently announced Pokémon Winds and Waves as well as their opinion on the direction of the franchise as a whole. Ethan is really starting to feel the struggle of watching the same movie every week, but Harrison is still happily enjoying the ride.

  11. 3

Detective Pikachu Week Eight: Comparing Mewtwo Across the Franchise

The brothers are back, and this week, they watched three movies. Their mission is to compare and contrast the Pokémon Mewtwo in The First Movie, Mewtwo Returns, and Detective Pikachu. Their big breakthrough theory is that they are, in fact, all the same character across two decades of media. Ethan also waxes poetic while lamenting the recent gap in theatrically released Pokémon animated movies. He and Harrison get emotional and nostalgic. Harrison is still loving the weekly viewing journey, and he's hoping this is a shifting in Ethan's perspective.

  12. 2

Detective Pikachu Week Seven: Detective Mode

The Poole brothers are back for the seventh round of watching Detective Pikachu every week for a full year. This time, they watch Detective mode and comment and dissect the various fun facts and behind-the-scenes stories revealed in this viewing experience. While some questions are answered, some are still to be determined. Harrison's love for this film remains unwavering, and while Ethan still enjoys making the show, the actual repeated viewing process is starting to weigh on him.

  13. 1

Detective Pikachu Week Six: Valentine's Day Special

For this week, the brothers are celebrating Valentine's Day by analyzing the somewhat confusing romance subplot in 2019's Pokémon Detective Pikachu. They theorize why certain decisions were made and invite anyone involved in the filmmaking process to answer the questions they're left with. Harrison and Ethan are still both very onboard with the viewing process but are beginning to feel the effect of having to watch and dissect the same movie every week.

  14. 0

Detective Pikachu Week Five: Third Act Breakdown

The brothers are back to dissect the final and shortest act of 2019's Detective Pikachu. They give some analysis and opinion on why certain creative decisions may have been made and how those affected the movie as a whole. Harrison is still tightly buckled into this ride, while Ethan is buckled but sometimes bracing, even if he still enjoys the twists and turns for the time being.

  15. -1

Detective Pikachu Week Four; Second Act Breakdown

For the last week of January, the bros are back to break down Act 2 of Detective Pikachu. They give some deeper insights and some new details noticed on this watch. This is the two's favorite part of the flick, and it does not disappoint. They're still full of steam and excited to continue the journey over the next 11 months.

  16. -2

Detective Pikachu Week Three: First Act Breakdown

The Poole brothers return to discuss and dissect specifically the first act of 2019's Detective Pikachu. Harrison came prepared with notes as they go scene by scene of the first 30 minutes of the movie and share reviews and observations that they've noticed over repeated viewings. Harrison even has two new details he only found this watch through. Ethan enjoyed the movie much more this week, and Harrison's love remained unwavering as he's still convinced this is among his greatest ideas.

  17. -3

Detective Pikachu Week Two: Basic Plot Overview

The brothers are back at it, rewatching Detective Pikachu for the second week in a row for their film project adventure. They give a basic overview of the plot as well as offer some overall analysis of the movie as a whole as they prepare to dive deeper in the coming weeks. Ethan is slightly less enthused on this viewing, but that might have more to do with watching it on his laptop versus on a larger screen to simulate the movie theater experience. Harrison is still equally as onboard as he's always been.

  18. -4

Detective Pikachu Week One: Welcome to Our Podcast

The journey begins. Harrison and Ethan watch the 2019 masterpiece Detective Pikachu for the first of fifty-two times in 2026. They explain why they want to go through with this idea as well as future plans for the podcast. As of right now, they both still love the movie.
