Scream Tech
by Sam Tim Nathaniel
Horror films may not all bleed the same, but they share an unusual affinity with relying on the technology of their day to drive their plots forward between the gore: Each scream queen needs a way to call for help, and a hundred ways for that to fail; an anchor of safety and a pulpit for monsters. A stranger isn't scary until they call. Samara can't get us without a television. The gadgets and tools of the day reflect the hopes and anxieties of the people, and the scary movies we all like are snapshots of the eras we missed or long to return to!Three longtime buds in Minneapolis have been watching a lot of horror movies lately, and are doing their darndest to capture it for your parasocial pleasure. Watch what we're watching, then join to hear us yak about it. Violence and technology? Not good bedfellows.
