Searching for the Sound: Judas Priest Screaming For Vengeance

Thought I posted this one too? Maybe it got taken down? But here's a sweet breakdown of not only Screaming for Vengeance but all of the early Priest.

  2. 11

Searching for the Sound: Slayer's Reign in Blood

Slayer's Reign in Blood is covered in depth.Thought I posted this one? Maybe it got deleted. Anyway, here it is again.

  3. 10

Searching For The Sound: Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique

If a masterpiece could have a chosen masterpiece, then Paul's Boutique would be it. A revolutionary album that was not well recieved at first, but blossomed in the hearts and minds of music fans everywhere and primed everyone for the Beastie Boys to take over the world just a few years later. A perfect record and we gush over it while trying to talk about the many, many samples used in its creation. A top 10 album of all time. Never gonna let 'em say that I don't love you.

  4. 9

Searching For The Sound: Black Sabbath Edition show 9 - Bonus Ep - Dio and more!

We wrap up the Black Sabbath Edition of Searching For the Sound by showcasing the two Dio Sabbath albums as well as Born Again with Ian Gillan and whatever else they crapped out before Ozzy came back for 13. Some good, mostly bad. It's been a pleasure talking Sabbath with you and until next time, adios (aDIOs).

  5. 8

Searching For The Sound: Black Sabbath Edition show 8 - Never Say Die! (and 13)

The last episode of the Black Sabbath Ozzy era! (bonus ep upcoming) Never Say Die! does not fare well with the panel and because it's so bad, we cover the reunion album, 13, in the second half. Still, metal is discussed and you'll enjoy the hot Sabbath talk.Stay tuned for the bonus episode which will cover the Dio Sabbath records as well as some later stuff that is pretty horrible. Fun.

  6. 7

Searching For The Sound: Black Sabbath Edition show 7 - Technical Ecstasy

A controversial episode as the boys DEFINITELY do not agree on this latter Ozzy era Sabbath album and it makes for a great epsiode because you can only nod and agree that "that riff is sweet" for too long before it becomes stale. And there is nothing stale about this one. It's spicy. One member of the show loves it and shares his story about listening to it with one of the guys in the excellent band The Figgs. The others were not impressed and the show ends in a stalemate about this divisive entry in the Sabbath catalog.

  7. 6

Searching For The Sound: Black Sabbath Edition show 6 - Sabotage

The sixth and last fully great Sabbath album, Sabotage, is covered on this episode. It's also the last fully metal Sabbath record as the band heads in new directions after the tumultuos recording of this classic riff monster. And the horrific album cover is talked about in great detail.

  8. 5

Searching For The Sound: Black Sabbath edition show 5 - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath

You bastards! The hits keep coming from Ozzy and crew. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath brings the heat and we can’t decide if THIS one isn’t our favorite Sabbath record. The guitars are thicker and Ozzy’s voice is higher. It’s a whole new vibe and they keep soaring for a bit more before they would start to fall. Bill Ward gets some major props from the boys. Sure he looks like a homeless guy, but he plays like a Swiss watch. And we suspect this is the point where Ozzy realizes his star might be starting to eclipse the other band members. John finally tells the story how he and Snyder had their Floyd/Wizard of Oz moment with a track off of this classic Sabbath disc and we look ahead to three remaining records in the Sabbath oeuvre.

  9. 4

Searching For The Sound: Black Sabbath Vol. 4

Fourth show means Black Sabbath Vol 4 which is the consensus favorite of the Searching For The Sound crew. A whole new guitar tone is explored as the boys debate whether this was the first grunge record. Neil Young may be the godfather of grunge but Ozzy and company were patient zero. John teases the Sabbath/Pink Floyd/Wizard of Oz moment he experienced with Snyder and they all go through "Changes" at some point during this episode.

  10. 3

Searching For The Sound: Black Sabbath show 3 - Master of Reality

This week our pals head Into the Void as they discuss Black Sabbath's crucial Master of Reality album. Is it the best Sabbath album? Does it have the greatest metal song of all time on it? Find out as the boy also argue about Radiohead for a bit, teasing a possible show down the road? We'll see. Head Into the Void with us now.

  11. 2

Searching For The Sound: Black Sabbath edition show 2 - Paranoid

Black Sabbath's classic second album, Paranoid, is discussed in the South of Denver studios by the boys. The Christian themes keep flowing and they debate whether people at an indoor lacrosse game would know more songs off of this than the obvious ones. John tells the story about passing up seeing the Grateful Dead at Red Rocks in the 80's and if that was a good choice or not.

  12. 1
