    Writing a Peace

    In the Season 1 Finale of Shift Change Radio Hour, we explore writing as a self-care practice. First, songwriter/artist Lexi Braun discusses how grief informs her songwriting practice and presents her song "Cricket Stuff (Grief Sprinkles)". Then, UF Center for Arts in Medicine faculty member and singer/songwriter Maggie Clifford explores using music to cope with difficult times and writing a song as a gift.     First Times

    Simply bathing oneself is an action that most take for granted. In this episode with the theme of "first times", our mystery guest tells a story about the first time he showered after having had his second bilateral lung transplant. We reveal his identity and interview him about his time in the hospital. Later, we hear from Matthew White; a first-time father and first-time songwriter who discusses the process of writing a song for his son called "Unconditional Love."

    A hospital patient shares her poetry and speaks about her process of writing in the hospital. Then, Ricky Kendall interviews former UF Health Shands Arts in Medicine director Tina Mullen about songwriting with engineering students.

    Kathy McKee shares a harrowing memoir entitled "Forgetting Myself." Then, Ricky Kendall and Ethan Stonerook share and discuss a poem called "Having an MRI/Waiting for Laundry" by Jan Bottiglieri.

    Michael interviews Jordan Burchel about the trials and breakthroughs of his ambitious 'song-a-day' project on Instagram. Then, Michael talks to printmaker, arts educator, and UF Health artist in residence, Molly Kempson, about how her many roles inform her work.

    Poetry Across Generations

    Jessica Gonzalez and her mother, Lourdes Gonzalez, recite poems that they've written using the technique of "Blackout Poetry," and Jessica translates them from Spanish to English. Then, Betsy Fisher and Lauren Price share some of the pieces they've written after having experiences in the hospital as caregiver and patient, respectively.
