Jacqui Lambie: Jac the Ripper of a Good Time (part 1)
Hi folks! The Good Ship Shouldn’ta makes her first stop on the North Western Coast of Tasmania, or as they call it in Devonport, The Coast. We are here to meet one of the more enigmatic and entertaining yet ignorantly racist politicians that this country has ever produced: Jacqui Lambie. This will be a three part series, and we spend this week getting to know her family history and her upbringing, as well as the kooky politics that causes the Tasmanian senate to throw up these oddballs from time to time.If you like what you hear and would like to support us monetarily, we would love to have you over on our Patreon, at Patreon.com/shouldntacome.If you have any questions about sourcing and such for this episode, you can reach us at [email protected] are on YouTube, where you can see the slides and images we refer to! www.youtube.com/@shouldntacome.

Dinosaur Hour with Ciaran
Hey Folks!Rawr! That is how a Dinosaur would say "welcome back to Shouldn'ta Come"! This week, Ciaran takes us to paleontological height this podcast couldn't have dreamed of reaching. We look at the relatively few confirmed cases of Dinosaurs Down Under, including an extended look at Gondwanaland. It's a great time if you're into Dinosaurs, especially ones with slightly disappointing names. If you like what you hear and would like to support us monetarily, we would love to have you over on our Patreon, at Patreon.com/shouldntacome.If you have any questions about sourcing and such for this episode, you can reach us at [email protected] are on YouTube, where you can see the slides and images we refer to! www.youtube.com/@shouldntacome.

April News Round Up: The Birdman & Homelessness, Dying Turtles & Writhing Budgets
Hey Folks! It's the end of April, where things are getting wet and wild! (It's raining again). It's been raining bleak times lately, and I appreciate the chance to get them out of my head, have a laugh about them, and hopefully help people stay on top of some of the big and small stories that happened in the last few weeks. We speak about Bikram Lama, Sydney's "Birdman", whose body lay at a train station for days until he was found. We go on into a wider look at homelessness, and how there isn't a serious solution on the table if it doesn't involve stopping people from owning second homes.Going south, and drying up, we look at the ecological catastrophe unfolding at the Gwydir Wetlands, near Moree, in the Murray-Darling Basin. A local property owner gets water shut off for a bunch of turtles, who are either dying or being relocated. Finally, we have a look at where money isn't going to go (The National Disability Insurance Scheme, or NDIS) and where money will be going (the military).

Punjaub, Jerusalem and Kentucky: Why are Australian Towns Named That?
Morning folks! We've got a fun one this week, or at least one that's not about the worst of Australian society and war crimes. In Australia, we have plenty of towns named after places in the British Isles, or at least after some Englishman or another. But have you heard of Surat, Queensland or Bagdad, Tasmania? Yes, we also have some places named after other parts of the world, and today we go on a quest to discover what place is named after somewhere the furthest away from it. We have a surprising result, which you'll have to wait until the end to hear! If you like what you hear and would like to support us monetarily, we would love to have you over on our Patreon, at Patreon.com/shouldntacome.If you have any questions about sourcing and such for this episode, you can reach us at [email protected] are on YouTube, where you can see the slides and images we refer to! www.youtube.com/@shouldntacome.Ben Roberts Smith is somehow even worse than I thought

Australia's Surrogacy Generation, Where We Buy Babies and Rent Uteri
Hey Folks! We are back with an episode that isn't a whimsical adventure, so if you were hoping for more of that, wait for next week I guess? We're talking about Surrogacy! The practice of implanting a fertilised egg into a woman, usually a poor woman, who's going to carry it for you so that you can have a baby. This is, in our opinion, a gross practice. We look at what the laws about surrogacy are around the country and around the world, with the context that Australia's surrogacy laws may be subject to change. Do you think it'd be good if you could pay people for this? Then you're not going to enjoy this episode. We then spend a bit of time bullying some of the heinous people interviewed by our news sources for a series of articles about international surrogacy, and the spurious arguments—harm minimisation, bodily autonomy and queer rights—that are used to justify it to the public.

Dot and the Kangaroo: Into the Dot-verse
Clickety-click and welcome back to Shouldn'ta Come! This week Ciaran is feeling a little nostalgic and so we dive into an Australian classic film, Dot and the Kangaroo. Australia's second ever animated feature film is a cherished memory for generations of Aussie kids, but what do you remember about it? And did you know there were eight subsequent Dot films? Come closer, eat this magical root, and come with us into the Dot-verse. Reserve CRANK of Australia raises DISINTEREST rates
Hey Folks,Among the death, disaster and looming famine, interest rates have gone up. I don't really know what that means, so we try our best to understand what levers are actually being pulled here. We spend a bit of time looking at the people who make up the RBA board and their odd connections to a specific country...obviously, it's Israel.

Revisiting Iraq 2003, the Howard Fib, and Why Everything is Always Bad.
Hey Folks,Remember when the Australian prime minister cowardly supported illegal, brutal and racist military action by the United States and Israel? Oh, I'm not being specific enough? Rather than the ongoing Iran attacks, the Genocide in Palestine, the invasion of Syria or the string of Gulf Wars, we will today be talking about the 2003 war in Iraq. We start by looking at whether John Howard was ever going to not support the war, and how few lies he actually had to tell to get it over the line. As it turns out, the Australian prime minister can unilaterally send the country into war. That's great! We then spend a bit of time looking at what little propaganda was deemed necessary by the Howard Government, to ensure that the average Australian was as frightened as possible in an effort to further deteriorate critical thinking and empathy in this country. Then we talk about All Saints for a minute. Sandilands, Eurotrends, Coward Rankings and Unparliamentary Language
Hey folks! If you're in the Brisbane area and Friday the 13th of March has not passed yet, please consider signing the Save Woogaroo Forest petition, regarding a development in Springfield threatening to clear 136 hectares of Koala Habitat. Link here. This week, we start by taking a brief look at the phenomenon of European wellness trends describing extremely mundane activities, like going on a walk or getting some sun. Then, we continue our exploration of mundane activities to dip our toes into the ongoing situation of the Kyle and Jackie-O feud—really Australian Political Content. We then cross over to our Coward Rankings team to introduce our new segment, and finally Yani regales Ciaran with some language described as unparliamentary in this great state. If you like what you hear and would like to support us monetarily, we would love to have you over on our Patreon, at Patreon.com/shouldntacome.If you have any questions about sourcing and such for this episode, you can reach us at [email protected] are on YouTube, where you can see the slides and images we refer to (when we have them)! www.youtube.com/@shouldntacome.

Iran at War, Albo at a Breaking Point, Trafficked Women and other despairs
Hey Folks,We're putting this episode out early because we talk about a few timely things, and don't want to be completely out of date when we put it out.I (Yani) am going to make the classic mistake of saying "Khomeni" when talking about "Khamenei", but just know I mean "the guy who just died".We also talk about the so-called "ISIS Brides" and the disgusting jingoism and sadism behind the Australian government response to their plight and suffering. We compare this to the celebratory tone often taken towards bloodthirsty behaviour by Australians going to serve in the IDF.The 'Save Our Wombats' petition mentioned at the start of the show can be found here: https://epetitions.parliament.act.gov.au/details/e-pet-015-26If you like what you hear and would like to support us monetarily, we would love to have you over on our Patreon, at Patreon.com/shouldntacome.If you have any questions about sourcing and such for this episode, you can reach us at [email protected] are on YouTube, where you can see the slides and images we refer to! www.youtube.com/@shouldntacome. Bob Katter 3: Uncle Bobonomics
Hey folks, lovely to have you here on Shouldn'ta Come! Bob Katter is notorious for 'claiming to be a blackfella on odd occasions' while being an old-school racist. He's also regarded as slightly confusing for the occasional seemingly contradictory belief, especially when it comes to Economics issues. This week, we have a look those two aspects of Bob Katter, Australia's most notorious politician, as we continue our deep dive into the man.If you like what you hear and would like to support us monetarily, we would love to have you over on our Patreon, at Patreon.com/shouldntacome.If you have any questions about sourcing and such for this episode, you can reach us at [email protected] are on YouTube, where you can see the slides and images we refer to! www.youtube.com/@shouldntacome.

Anika "Doing Her Job" Wells, Social Media Ban, and Bryce Courtenay
Hi folks! We're back with our second-last episode of the year, where we're just going to go around some recent happenings—although, obviously, the news has moved on to the other big thing that happened. Anika Wells is the latest Minister for Sport, and politician in general, to be caught up in a scandal regarding the amount of public money that goes to the lifestyles of the rich and dangerous. We then talk more widely about the Social Media Ban—its efficacy and ethi...cacy, I guess. Section 18c of the Racial Discrimination Act (Slurs Episode)
Australia's Racial Discrimination Act, brought in by the Gough Whitlam government in 1975, is an optimistic attempt to legislate away racism in public life, like housing and employment. Section 18c tries to do that with hate speech. And that's perhaps a challenge not befitting Australia's legislative system—or, maybe, any.We have a look at an ongoing case by the Zionist Federation of Australia's Alon Cassuto against the long-time SBS Newsreader Mary Kostakidis, and Ciaran learns about some of the perhaps silliest 18c cases brought up throughout history. If you like what you hear and would like to support us monetarily, we would love to have you over on our Patreon, at Patreon.com/shouldntacome.If you have any questions about sourcing and such for this episode, you can reach us at [email protected] are on YouTube, where you can see the slides and images we refer to! Nazi March, Government Transparency, Lead Poisoning and local Zionism (Shouldn'ta Said That #8)
Hi everybody! This week we have a Patreon Preview for y'all, a really interesting wide-ranging discussion we had over the weekend regarding a dizzying week in Australia. From Bob Katter and the March for Australia, the fugitive Dezi Freeman, restrictive changes to Freedom of Information, kids being poisoned by lead, new Nauru deportations and the Australian Mayors Against Antisemitism conference, we try to catch ourselves (and you all!) up on some of the structural things in motion, and how the hard edge of imperialism, colonialism and capitalism play out on the groudn.Wild week in the news!If you'd like to hear all of these Patreon episodes, which we're getting back to, please please consider supporting us on Patreon at patreon.com/shouldntacome.

E31: There's Only Ever Been One Mark (Leibler Pt. 2)
Hello again everybody! This week, it was announced that the Australian Government will 'recognise a Palestinian state'. This is part 2 of our series on the man, the candlelit politician. The genocide in Gaza is still ongoing and there are innumerable people suffering unimaginable hardships. After being displaced from his home, Karam is one of many struggling to stay alive amidst Israel's continued assault. Karam and his family are seeking help with accessing food, shelter and medicine.
