A Week in Rescue: Beethoven and Beyond
Welcome back to Sit Stay Rant, where we unleash the real mess behind rescue! Amy, Tiffany, Emily, and Brittany are back at the mics, joined by the ever-adorable Mama Dumpling, (who provides few snores in the background) as the team tackles another week of rescue madness. This week’s episode centers on Beethoven, a nine-week-old puppy whose adoption quickly turned into a cautionary tale. The adopter seemed wonderful, until the payment disappeared. The team walks listeners through how the adopter paid the adoption fee, only to dispute the charge days later. What followed were endless excuses: a “stolen” card, promises to write a check, missed deadlines, and weeks of avoidance. Amy, Emily, Tiffany, and Brittany share every twist with humor and disbelief, offering an inside look at what really happens when good intentions meet bad behavior.Amy also recalls a wild story from years ago, when another adopter refused to pay the fee and she went full investigator mode, even contacting the man’s mother. What happened next? You’ll have to listen—but it’s shocking. The crew doesn’t stop there. Amy brings up a recent encounter with a potential adopter who became rude after being told the rescue couldn’t “hold” a dog for several weeks until it fit their schedule. That sparks a deeper conversation about finding balance in the adoption process—how rescues walk a fine line between being too rigid with rules and too flexible in trying to make placements work.Through it all, the team reflects on how dogs aren’t just passing through our lives, they become part of our timeline, marking chapters of love, lessons, and growth that shape who we are. Between laughter, exasperation, and Mama Dumpling’s steady presence, the crew reminds listeners why, despite the chaos, they keep doing this work: because every dog saved changes more than one life.Grab your coffee and tune in for another unfiltered, hilarious, and heartfelt look at life in rescue.

The Foster's Secret: We Are Just One Part Of Their Story
In this milestone episode of Sit Stay Rant, Amy, Tiffany, Gabby, and Emily welcome two fellow rescue workers, Amanda and Maya, to the conversation. Maya shares an emotional update about her long-term foster Frenchies, Goose and Maverick, both born with cleft palates. After undergoing surgery, these resilient little dogs are thriving, and Maya reminds us that “they have such a will to live.”From there, the group dives into one of the most common phrases they hear: “I don’t know how you do this, it must be so hard to say goodbye.” Together, they unpack the bittersweet reality of fostering: the deep bonds that form, the joy of watching dogs thrive in new homes, and the misconceptions people often have about dogs becoming “too attached” to fosters to move on.The conversation balances heartache with hope, spotlighting both the grit required to keep going in rescue and the incredible resilience of the dogs themselves.

66 Dogs Later.... and Gilligan is Back Again
In this episode of Sit, Stay, Rant, Amy, Tiffany, Emily, and Gabby pull back the curtain on a pretty intense week where we took in 66 dogs in just seven days. From endless pleas for fosters to the logistical scramble of getting dogs safe and settled, the crew unpacks what it really means to be a “yes” rescue, the exhaustion, the guilt, and the bittersweet victories. But that’s not all. The team also dives into the case of Gilligan, a dog they once placed through Knine who shockingly turned up in a local shelter. What follows is equal parts detective story and emotional gut punch, as they try to unravel what really happened. Was his adopter honest? How did he end up back at square one? Equal parts chaotic, funny, and raw, Episode 19 captures the reality of rescue: the moments that test your patience, the dogs that test your heart, and the mysteries that keep you awake at night.

Gatekeeping or Guardianship? When Good Families Get Denied.
In this episode of Sit Stay Rant, the crew looks ahead to exciting changes, working with a new online platform they will be able to have guest appearances and even call-ins from listeners and haters alike. But the heart of the episode digs into a common frustration in the rescue world: unnecessarily rigid adoption processes that scare away good families.Amy shares the story of a warm, responsible family who recently adopted one of her foster dogs. They were exactly the kind of adopters every rescue hopes for: kind, attentive parents, dog-savvy, and committed. Yet, shockingly, they had been rejected by several other rescues after enduring a grueling gauntlet of phone calls, video chats, and home visits. The final “red flag”? Their youngest child simply preferred calmer dogs over jumpy ones. This sparks a bigger conversation: where’s the line between important due diligence and outright gatekeeping? When rescues go too far, they risk not only losing great homes for dogs but also pushing frustrated families toward breeders or pet stores. The team reflects on their own streamlined but thoughtful adoption process at Canine, emphasizing balance, trust, and common sense.Episode 18 shines a light on how rescues can unintentionally sabotage their own mission and calls for a culture shift that makes adoption more welcoming while still keeping dogs safe.

Adoption Wins! Perfectly Imperfect, Perfectly Loved”
In this special Sit Stay Rant, we’re pausing the rants (mostly) and celebrating the real reason we all show up: the dogs who beat the odds and some of our recent adoption stories. We start with Matthew, yes, you heard right, a man trapped in a dog’s body (or at least that’s how he acts). Quirky, cute but weird finally matched with humans who get him and love him for who he is. Then there’s Wonton, the wall-staring pup who scared off every meet-and-greet until the perfect family saw him for who he is and gave him a chance. From Puerto Rico, Cora made the long journey to find her forever people, while Poppy and Flora’s Chihuahua-size-defying litter threw us all for a loop: not too small, not too big… these Goldilocks pups finally found their people! We’ll also remember the Office Litter, seventeen identical black and brown puppies who taught us that individuality shines even in the biggest bunch. And you can’t forget Grace O’Malley, our pirate-hearted Chow-Rottie mix straight off the Temu ship, and how it warmed our hearts when she made it to her home. Finally, we revisit Cesar, the three-legged Baltimore street survivor who was headed for euthanasia until Tiffany stepped in. Now he’s living his best life, proving that sometimes the “least likely” become the greatest success stories.

Snouts, Spats, Sass & Snuggles: Life with Rescue Dogs
Welcome back to another edition of Sit-Stay Rant, where we unleash the real mess behind rescue. Amy (yes, finally nailing the tagline) is joined by Emily, Tiffany, Gabby, and making her debut, Victoria, one of our powerhouse volunteers who doesn’t take nonsense from anyone. This episode dives straight into the surprises no one warns you about when you step into the world of rescue. From the first time witnessing a transport truck unload (think chaos, exhaustion, and sometimes borderline inhumane conditions) to the devastating heartbreak of Parvo-positive puppies, our crew gets real about the moments that shook them the most.Victoria shares how her early experiences in 2020 with sick transports changed the way she saw rescue forever. We talk about what really happens when dogs get sick on the road, the impossible choices rescues face, and the sheer volume of animals moved across the country just to have a chance at survival.Between the laughs (yes, Gabby’s still single, and Amy swears she only has “one dog”… maybe three), and the sobering truths, this episode pulls back the curtain on the messy, human, and heartbreaking side of rescue work.

Rescue Pet Peeves 2.0 Because One Episode Wasn't Enough
Welcome back to Sit Stay Rant, where we are unleashing the real mess behind rescue, cult vibes and all. Amy, along with Gabby, Emily, and Brittany M., dive into part two of their ever-growing list of dog rescue pet peeves. This time, the team tackles one of the most frustrating and dangerous habits in rescue: people exaggerating or mislabeling dogs to get them surrendered or moved faster. You know the drill: a family says they “just can’t keep the dog,” and when things don’t move quickly enough, suddenly the dog is “aggressive” or “untrainable.” Those two little words? They’re not just annoying, they can be a literal death sentence. The group breaks down why true aggression in dogs is rare, and how most behavior issues stem from fear, lack of socialization, or stress. They talk about the infamous “ladder of reactivity,” where small warning signs escalate if ignored, and share personal stories like Caesar, a Baltimore shelter dog labeled “aggressive” who turned out to be a sweetheart once out of the shelter chaos. But that’s not all, this episode also dives into some of the other everyday pet peeves of rescue life, from fosters who expect instant perfection to people who evaluate dogs way too quickly before giving them a chance to settle in.With a mix of humor, real-life bite stories, and hard truths, the team reminds fosters and adopters that patience and precise language matter. Calling a postpartum mama “aggressive” or slapping that label on a scared transport pup isn’t just inaccurate, it’s irresponsible. Words shape outcomes, and careless ones can put dogs at risk.So sit back, rant along, and remember: leave the dog alone, let them come to you, and for the love of rescue, stop throwing around the word “aggressive” when what you really mean is “scared” or “reactive.”

It's Not The Dogs, It's The People
Welcome back to Sit, Stay, Rant, where the tea is hot, the dogs are adorable, and the drama is real. Today, Amy is joined by Emily and Gabby, Tiffany, we miss you! Today we dig into the pet peeves and “oh no they didn’t” moments of rescue.First, a disclaimer: we love our fosters. Without them, we’d be nothing but sad people with too many dogs in our kitchens. Ninety-eight percent are lifesaving rockstars. But that other two percent? Let’s just say they keep the wine industry afloat.Gabby kicks things off with the behind-the-scenes of transport: picking clean, vetted, family-friendly dogs that adopters will love. No major bite histories, no “will guard the couch with my life” types, just pups ready for a fresh start. To place them, Gabby scrolls through a contact list that’s basically a small town directory (2,000 names), while Emily trails behind with 1,500.And here come the pet peeves. The fosters who say “yes” and ghost right before transport. The ones drawn in by a cute Facebook post but never thought about the actual work. The déjà vu personalities who reappear in new bodies, flaking out the same way every time.We rant because this is the real rescue life. We want to share the mishaps, the absurdities, the moments that make us laugh so we don’t cry. Small but mighty, slightly exasperated, and still full of love for our fosters, pull up a chair. We’re spilling the kibble, one pet peeve at a time.

Hero Complex, Harmful Consequences
In this episode of Sit Stay Rant, we confront the uncomfortable truths within the rescue world, the practices that claim to save dogs but sometimes cause real harm. This isn’t about villainizing rescue, but about holding up a mirror to the sector, calling for integrity and accountability. At the heart of the episode is the practice of warehousing dogs keeping them in kennels indefinitely without movement toward adoption. This approach, while often well-intentioned, can erode the dogs’ emotional and physical well‑being. Dogs stagnate, routines become robotic, and individuals languish in limbo. We move into a stark discussion about pulling complicated medical cases, dogs from shelters with severe illnesses or injuries, when rescues lack the resources to support them. We discuss a rescue stepping in to pull a dog they know demands expensive care, with no foster network or financial planning. This kind of behavior may look heroic on the surface, but it can lead to prolonged suffering for the dog, financial collapse for the rescue, and burnout for everyone involved. Worse, it prevents rescues equipped to handle those cases from stepping in.The episode calls out the dangerous seductive allure of the “medical martyr” rescue mindset, saving complicated cases as a badge of honor, even when the outcome is uncertain. We challenge rescuers to evaluate motivations: is this altruism or ego?

Drowning in Dogs
Join us for episode 12 of Sit Stay Rant. In this eye-opening episode we're joined by our favorite rescue crew Amy, Gabby (holding the shoulder-sitting superstar foster dog Parrot), Emily, and Tiffany as we dive into the very real crisis of shelter and dog rescue overcrowding. One local shelter just hit a 20-year high in intake, and we’re breaking down why. From backyard breeders trying to turn a quick buck on unvaccinated poodles to “designer” litters with cleft palates and no safety net. We explore how the economy, social media, and misinformation have collided into a perfect storm. Along with owner surrenders are becoming more common and the sad fact that deportations are on the rise. Spoiler: It’s not the dogs’ fault, it’s us humans. Grab your coffee and your common sense; it’s time to talk about why the rescue world is treading water and what we can do to keep afloat.

When Rescue Becomes Harmful
In this candid and complex episode, we explore a difficult but essential topic in the world of animal rescue: what happens when rescuers, despite good intentions, become harmful. We dive into the uncomfortable truth that some rescuers can become overwhelmed, under-resourced, and at times, slide into hoarding behaviors under the guise of “helping.”The conversation unpacks how rescue can turn harmful, especially when individuals take on more animals than they can reasonably care for. The episode highlights how well-meaning volunteers can fall behind on vetting, spaying/neutering, and basic care, leading to dangerous and unhealthy environments. We discuss our own firsthand experiences with hoarding cases, the psychological complexities behind them, and the alarming lack of legal accountability—even when animals are suffering in plain sight. This episode challenges the listener to think critically about the fine line between rescue and neglect, and why the rescue community must be willing to hold itself accountable in order to truly protect animals. Join us as we ask the hard questions and open the door to more responsible, compassionate rescue.

Kibble, Tea, and Tough Conversations!
Welcome to Episode 9 where we spill the kibble! Sometimes, the hardest part of rescue isn’t the dogs - it’s the drama. In this candid conversation, we dig into the not-so-pretty side of rescue life: the whispers, the shade, and yes, the full-blown bark-fests from other groups. We’ll unpack some of the rumors, set the record straight, and share how we stay focused on the dogs while the haters howl. Rescue is messy, but our mission is clear. Grab your tea (or kibble), because we’re calling out the chaos with heart, humor, and a big ol’ wag of truth. Let’s clear the air!

Sketchy Parking Lots & Freedom Rides
In this brutally real (and slightly unhinged) episode, the Sit Stay Rant crew dives into the gritty, behind-the-scenes world of dog transports—where freedom rides meet frantic foster fails, mystery crates arrive at 3 a.m., and poop-matted poodles ride shotgun. Amy, Gabby, Tiffany, and Emily (with a sleepyCharlotte in tow) talk everything from Arby’s parking lot surrenders to Amish breeder dumps, ghosting fosters, broken vans, and the emotional toll of turning away dogs you want so badly to save. It’s messy, it’s maddening, and it’s the heartof rescue. Spoiler alert: Gabby still doesn’t crack under pressure, and someone finds literal poop where they expected nails. Welcome to rescue—hope you brought a slip lead.

Behind the Rescue Curtain: The Brittanys Tell All
This week on Sit Stay Rant, we’re sitting down with two of Knine Rescue’s behind-the-scenes superheroes—the Brittanys. These two are part of the rescue’s core team and the glue holding the whole chaotic circus together. From juggling foster homes and adoption inquiries to managing social media and putting out daily fires, they’re the ones keeping the rescue bus from driving off a cliff—sometimes literally. We dive into what really goes on behind closed doors: the endless unpredictability, the drama (because yes, even in dog rescue, there’s always drama), and the emotional rollercoaster that no one signs up for—but somehow, we’re all riding anyway. The Brittanys share what surprised them most about the world of rescue and what it actually takes to survive it with your sanity (mostly) intact. We talk about what makes a good volunteer—not just a love of dogs, but open-mindedness, flexibility, realistic expectations, and the ability to pivot when things go completely sideways (which they will). And we tackle the hardest part: learning to say no—to more dogs, to people-pleasing, and to stretching yourself too thin just because you care. And of course, we pay homage to our emotionally unreadable queen, Gabby. Gabby is the eye of the rescue hurricane—calm, composed, and utterly unfazed. She shows no emotion, no matter what’s burning down around her. She’s dead behind the eyes in the most beautiful, necessary way. While the rest of us are crying over intake photos or screaming into the void, Gabby is assigning fosters, processing adoptions, and silently judging our chaos. She’s our emotional support robot, and we are not okay without her. Also, shoutout to the unexpected MVP of our group chat: Pollen. Don’t ask. Just know that it’s holding us together more than any spreadsheet or strategic plan ever could. This episode is a little unhinged, a lot honest, and exactly what you’d expect from the people who keep the rescue running—even when everything’s on fire.

From Deaf Puppy to Dog Rescue: Lexi & Maya’s Unexpected Journey
They thought they were getting a Corgi from a sweet family in Pennsylvania… but the puppy was deaf, the result of irresponsible double merle breeding. That’s when Lexi and Maya discovered they’d unknowingly supported a puppy mill—like many hidden behind Amish farms, where dogs are treated as products, not pets. That eye-opening moment changed their lives.Today, Lexi and Maya are rescuing cleft-palate merle Frenchies from backyard breeders—puppies who were going to be euthanized simply for being born “imperfect.” These babies can’t even nurse and must be tube-fed around the clock to survive. This episode is real, raw, and unforgettable. If you’ve ever wondered where cute puppies really come from—listen in.

The Breeder Illusion – ‘Ethical’ or Not, They’re Part of the Problem
In this no-holds-barred episode, we dig into the dark underbelly of the breeding world that few are willing to talk about—like the quiet practice of culling puppies who aren’t “perfect” and the disturbing standards that prioritize aesthetics over lives. We also ask the tough question: Why are breeders so angry at rescue advocates? The backlash is real, and in this episode, we unpack where that defensiveness comes from—and why it only reinforces the problem. And let’s not forget the classic excuse: “We’re preserving the breed.” It’s a line we’ve heard over and over—but from the rescue side, we call BS. Because we do see their dogs in shelters. We do take in their discards. And no matter how ethical the branding, it all adds to the same heartbreaking crisis.Whether it’s backyard breeders or those hiding behind health testing and fancy titles, the truth is uncomfortable: breeding dogs, no matter how it’s packaged, contributes to the overwhelming overpopulation we’re battling every single day.If you’ve ever been told “not all breeders,” this one’s for you. Because when you’re in rescue, you know exactly who gets left behind.

Bless the Fosters… Most of Them
This week, we’re talking about the real MVPs of rescue: the foster parents. Most of them are absolute magic — showing up at all hours, bottle-feeding puppies, cleaning up messes (literal and emotional), and falling in love over and over again. And then… there’s the small-but-memorable percentage who ghost mid-transport, adopt out a dog without telling anyone, or start group text drama over crate color. We’re sharing our favorite foster stories — the heart-melters, the hilarious fails, and the ones we still talk about like urban legends. If you’ve ever opened your home to a dog (or returned one after 24 hours because it “looked” at you funny), this one’s for you.

Our Core Memories Are Just Dogs in Crisis
Most people fondly recall prom or summer camp. We remember the time Amy got full-on mauled by a hormonal momma dog and Emily entered a co-parenting agreement with a rescue who stares at walls like she’s in a haunted house. In this episode, we’re reliving the dogs that left permanent marks—on our hearts, our souls, and occasionally our hands. There’s Ruby, found tied to a park bench looking like a skeleton. Blanche, who bit us within minutes of arrival and then accepted a cheeseburger like a hospice diva. Claire, who took 18 months to allow touch and now lives in a legally murky shared custody arrangement between Amy and Emily. Kristen, who bit four people in full mom-mode before deciding she was, in fact, a snuggle bug. Cardamom, who showed up emaciated and very pregnant, later losing a leg to an old stray injury like the unbothered queen she is. Roscoe, the blind, deaf senior from Ohio whose owner entered assisted living—and who entered Amy’s life just in time to fix something inside her. Margarita, rescued from a literal storm drain, adopted, returned, and slowly rebuilt thanks to Tiff’s unmatched patience. And finally, Liz Taylor—flawless mother, loyal companion, and returned four months after adoption because she had the audacity to bark when people walked by her house. Apparently, being 98% perfect isn’t enough if the last 2% makes noise. These dogs didn’t just change our lives—they rewired our brains. They’re the reason we rant, rescue, and occasionally scream into the void. And we wouldn’t have it any other way. (Mostly.)
