SlumDwell

Charlie Slum is an emcee hailing from Pittsburgh, PA. He is an artist that delivers an entire conceptual work of art within the confines of each and every song. His music is heavily influenced by this factor, and the smooth vibes one finds in Jazz. Sounds that entrance the listener and make them feel like they're in another dimension while at the same time tied down by Slum's lyrics to the reality of life. However, that reality that we as listeners are anchored to is far from clear cut. If anything, Slum is abstract and his lyrics are conveying matters which aren't usually discussed or put into words at all. While the majority of hip-hop artists promote drinking lean, Slum has an affinity for shroom juice. Having an unquenchable thirst for knowledge leaves him constantly teaching his listener while asking questions simultaneously. His subconscious reigns supreme over his writing process which opens the streams of factual information into the steady flow he delivers. That flow has carri

Cold Sweater (prod. by Wavin Lane)

...I've always been a visionary, since a child. I'm sure my family members can and will attest to that, probably enthusiastically. I've always tried to go a little above and beyond what I saw some of my counterparts doing creatively & substantially with the visual aspects of their music. With that being said, I can only creatively gravitate to people with a vision that I gauge to be of similar strength to mine. This new song I'm about to release, "Cold Sweater" is a spectacular clash of those creative and visionary interests & ideas. (With a lot of nature present 😉) The interests & ideas come from myself, producer Wavin Lane & director Geoffrey Ladd. 🌱 I fancy myself as a hyper MC nowadays. I won't make this long winded but I have a painstakingly calculated off beat flow that I don't think my city or the world has yet realized the brilliance of. In this piece, I address a lot of the social/political/racial issues that are plaguing us in a very blunt & charged fashion. Completely abstract Slum but over a bit of a different sound than you've become accustomed to from me, which makes my delivery special for this occasion. 🌊🐺 That sound is credited to none other than Wavin Lane. In my opinion, that man has the most defined sound out of any 3rd generation Pittsburgh producer. There are very few on his level and none in his class as distinct imo. He's someone I've been working with and paying close attention to his work for awhile. I really feel as though the brother is amongst the only audio artists in the city that can help me paint my pictures verbally to the greatest extent. The unique qualities of his production and the quality of it itself allow my nuances and ambiguity to better speak for itself and flourish on it's own. Also, he crafted the sound of the vocals as well. Sonically, it's metaphysic voyage of instinct and awareness over trap inspired drums. It feels like something primal you've felt or heard in your soul during a deep search.. 🎥 Last but definitely not least is the gentleman who shot the video, Geoff Ladd. Ladd has done photography work for a gaggle of shoe companies (Reebok and Nike to name a couple), has had his work featured in Rolling Stone Magazine & has been commissioned to do work for everything from high class watches to vegan inspired fashion lines. Although none of these have much to do with hip-hop, I respect his eye and mind pertaining to his field. Homie effortlessly brings dope cinematography and creative ideas to push the envelope. This is why i had to get him to shoot for me. The 3 of us came together for 'Cold Sweater', largely at different times but the outcome is a subconsciously cohesive & socially relevant psychedelic driven power statement through the music. The video, my lyrics, and the mind blowing instrumentation behind me all come together to represent these themes so well and in the strongest of fashions. 'Cold Sweater' is of monumental proportions. I need Pittsburgh (and those abroad) to stay tuned. Slum is back #GHH
