Grief, Community, and Miracles with Kathryn Cunningham | Ep 44
Send a textIn February, 2023, a darling little 8 year old boy in my community fell off the slide at school and passed away as a result of those injuries. You'll receive insights on how to show up for people in your circle who are grieving, and be inspired to look at your own life through the lens of miracles.Kathryn's book, Walking Through the Valley of the Shadow of Death, written about those first days after the accident, is available now for preorder. at https://amzn.to/49RjHRs.Kathryn's book launch and celebration will be held May 17th from 7-9 PM in Stansbury Park, UT. As a mother, as a teacher, as a friend, she is always at her best when there’s a story involved. She has gathered her stories and honed her skills as a French major at BYU, as a proselyting missionary in Germany, as a military wife in Korea and Germany, as a member of the writing team for the refugee advocacy organization TSOS (Their Story is Our Story), and as the CEO of her growing family as they explored the world together. The list goes on! She never dreamed that one day she’d have to tell the story of how she lost her son, but she’s grateful for the experiences, the mentors, and the gospel truths that have prepared her to do it.*************************************If you're a woman who appreciates connecting with other women in community with vulnerability and compassion, please join us in the Solidarity Sister! Building Bridges Through Faith Transitions With Evelyn Hornbarger | Ep 34
Send a textIf you are currently, or have ever been part of a faith community, you know it takes effort to hold onto relationships during a faith transition, but it can be done. Listen in as Evelyn Hornbarger and I lean into community building together despite the fact that our faith journeys are leading us in different directions. I'm so grateful for Evelyn's love and energy. I invite you to connect with her on FB before she posts inspiring messages from some generous authorities in her life over the weekend of April 6-7.Evelyn's Personal Page: https://www.facebook.com/evelyn.hornbarger.7Generous Conference: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61556115256927About Evelyn: I grew up in rural New Mexico. I studied how to get married as a Mormon in Thatcher, AZ and then again at BYU where I graduated. After marriage, I went to NMSU for a master's degree in public health, while making babies. I found my way through windy western Nebraska following my husband's career, and I currently live in San Antonio, Texas with my five children and husband. I am re-evaluating all of my life choices, and I need a nap. I like fiber arts, poetry, and reinventing myself after religious deconstruction. Happiness Falls, The Personal Librarian, and Veiled in Smoke - Book Reviews | Ep 30
Send a textMy top audiobook picks of this week were:Happiness Falls by Angie Kim, The Personal Librarian by Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray, andVeiled in Smoke by Jocelyn Green.I also mentioned one of my all-time favorites, which I consider a must-read. That book is Real by Carol Cujec and Peyton Goddard.Big themes this week around communication as not being an accurate marker of intelligence, happiness, racial inequality, and PTSD. Questions, Divine Compensation, and Bowler Hat Guy - Book Reviews | Ep 14
Send a textThis week I'm reviewing Change Your Questions, Change Your Life by Marilee Adams and The Law of Divine Compensation by Marianne Williamson. Both of these have the power to be absolute game changers, and I definitely recommend them. In summary, I was reminded of the power of refraining from judgement, and instead becoming an open listener and asking good questions. This leads us to stronger relationships and better collaborative problem solving. I also felt encouraged to trust in divine help, with a personal increase in both trust and hope, which is exactly what I needed.God/the universe/whatever name you want to use to refer to our higher power is working for our highest good. Valentine’s, Galentine’s, Love, and Belonging - Minisode | Ep 13
Send a textLove is the most powerful force in the universe. In this minisode, I'm talking about why I love Valentine's Day, and how learning to love ourselves not only brings us greater peace and confidence, but it's actually at the heart of building strong and healthy communities. Here's that quote about love from Brené Brown that I mentioned:“We cultivate love when we allow our most vulnerable and powerful selves to be deeply seen and known, and when we honour the spiritual connection that grows from that offering with trust, respect, kindness and affection.Love is not something we give or get, it is something that we nurture and grow, a connection that can only be cultivated between two people when it exists within each of them – we can only love others as much as we love ourselves.Shame, blame, disrespect, betrayal and the withholding of affection damages the roots from which love grows. Love can only survive these injuries if they are acknowledged, healed and rare”. *************************************If you're a woman who appreciates connecting with other women in community with vulnerability and compassion, please join us in the Solidarity Sister! The Loving 5: A Self-Love Practice - Minisode | Ep 10
Send a textIn today's minisode I introduce you to The Loving 5, a scalable practice for loving yourself and grounding yourself at any time of day. These are the affirmations from this minisode:I have value just as I am.I am making progress with my healing.I am loveable.I am strong.I am resilient. The world is better because I am here.I send love to my past self.Their actions are not my shame or guilt to carry.I give myself grace for doing the best I could under the circumstances.I give myself space to learn better, to do better, and to become better.I forgive myself for past mistakes.I forgive myself for holding undeserved blame.I let go of negative energy and thoughts. I replace negative self talk with the positive affirmations I deserve.I’m filled with healing energy.I know I cannot change the past, but I have the power to create the future I want.I am loved by the giver of my breath and can fulfill my divine purpose.I was made to shine my light and breath in light and love.I was made to sparkle.*************************************Mark your calendar for a masterclass with me entitled "Cultivating Habits of Self-Love" hosted by The Cozy Caregiver Cafe on February 27th at 5 PM MST.
