University of Wollongong Stops All Sport
Late last evening, the University of Wollongong (UOW) announced a stop to all sports taking place at all UOW campuses. The choice was a response to the growing concerns around the spread of the Coronavirus, which has now killed five people. The restrictions have seen the cancellation of multiple events, including the UOW Athletic Club’s Social Run that was scheduled to take place this afternoon. The infection, which has been confirmed to have infected 454 people in Australia, has prompted responses from the Morrison Government. Today it was announced that all non-essential in-door gatherings of over 100 people would be banned in order to promote social distancing. The Government had previously banned all events over 500 people last Friday On the same day, international arrivals were informed they are be required to self-quarantined for 14 days upon landing in Australia.
