Do you ever think about living?

Have you ever felt like you were about to die? Not in the “one day I’ll die” kind of way, but in the “this is it, my time has come—goodbye, world” way? That happened to me at the end of 2023. I was riding my bike home, and I was completely sure I wouldn’t make it back alive. It was the strangest, most unsettling feeling—so intense that it left me in shock for a while. Only when I got home, my safe place, did I start to process what had just happened and realize I was okay. I was alive. It’s crazy how unprepared we are to deal with the one thing we know for sure will happen. Even though we’re aware of it, we just push it aside and keep living—until we don’t. Until it’s too late to think about what we should have done while we were here.Because thinking about death is really thinking about life. And that’s exactly what we’re going to do in today’s episode.I’m Vitor Leite, a journalist by training and a writer at heart, and this is Some Deep Shit—a podcast where I put into words the deep thoughts I wish I had heard somewhere out there.---Visit our online space and subscribe to get everything firsthand, straight to your inbox. https://somedeepproductions.substack.com

Chasing a dream is tough... But not impossible

Do you also feel that the more time passes, the harder it gets to chase our dreams? It seems that the older we get, the more we have to lose. As if, throughout life, we keep packing more and more into our little suitcase, and the heavier it gets, the harder it becomes to move.People, places, memories, foods, objects... We stuff everything into that suitcase. Sometimes, even things that harm us or no longer make sense to carry end up in there. As long as we are happy with the life we’re living, the suitcase sits there, still and open, waiting for new things to come in. But when that urge for change hits, when we finally feel ready to chase our dreams, that same suitcase can become a very heavy burden. So heavy that it might keep us from moving forward. It’s not easy, but it is possible. And that’s what we’re talking about in today’s episode.I’m Vitor Leite, a journalist by training and a writer by passion, and this is Some Deep Shit, a podcast where I share some deep thoughts about life — the kind of thoughts I wish I’d heard out there.

Oops, I (almost) gave up again

How many times have you given up on something? I have… countless times. The most recent was when I gave up on this podcast…Or almost.  In episode 1, I share how the idea for this podcast came about and what the process of getting it off the ground was like. If you haven't heard it yet, I suggest you do so first and then come back here—it'll make a lot more sense, I promise. Now, if you've listened until the very last second, including the post-credits part, you know that it took many months—more than a year, to be exact—to go from starting to publishing the first episode. But what I didn’t share in detail back then was the reason for this delay, and what it has to do with my habit of giving up. If you can relate to this or are just curious for some gossip, stay with me, because this conversation is about to get deep.

What am I doing with my life?

Imagine the first scene of Gossip Girl. Serena on the train, "Young Folks" playing, that look so expressionless it could fit into any situation. Now replace Serena with a guy with curly hair and round glasses, New York with Rotterdam, "Young Folks" with "Run Away With Me," and an empty look with one of "what the hell am I doing with my life?" Well, that was me a few months ago when the idea for this podcast started to take shape. But I wasn't sad, mad, frustrated. On one hand, I felt incredibly grateful to be where I am today. On the other hand, it felt like something was missing. Like a beautiful puzzle where the last piece is somewhere out there, waiting to be found. Beautiful but incomplete. The other times I felt this way, I simply ignored it and carried on with life. But this time, my curiosity was bigger than my fear. I decided to embrace the uncertainty and investigate. I had a clue as to where this missing piece might be. I just needed to try. If you've ever felt the same way, welcome, this episode is for you. For us. For our eagerness to find the missing piece. _____ Share your thoughts with me on [email protected]
