MAX HAMMUR (Sangam, Naarm, Melbourne) MIX035

Glaz-go Skills! Max Hammer @maxhammur delivers a tip-top recording for MIX035, a sun-drenched blend of boogie-disco juice that glides between eras and continents with real flair. No fancy flips, just straight-up entertaining grooves served as they were meant to be heard , and like the man himself, full of character. Now based in Naarm/Melbourne, Max (a Glaswegian native) is the co-organiser of SANGAM, a fresh monthly celebration of sound, culture, and style that's hosted in some of the city’s most ridiculously cool and intimate venues. Influenced by early sound system sessions at The 78, late nights at Le Cheetah, and more, he brings with him a slice of Glasgow’s underground spirit. This mix is steeped in that same energy...think off-peak mystical grooviness that feels both nostalgic and new. From the driving pulse of Tabou Combo’s “Let’s Do The Groove”, to the smoky uplift of Eloise Whitaker’s “I Will Fight”, Max digs with heart, jumping borders with ease. Proper inspiring stuff from the man. Mastering By Rokotro Design by Tony Pabz

ANDREA PASSENGER (Light Touches Records, Italy) MIX034

Next up on SPACEDUST selections, we’ve got Andrea PassEnger, a reel deal selector, producer, and curator straight outta Turin, Italy. One of the country’s best kept secrets, Andrea’s been digging deep for years, pushing vintage cream of the crop. With releases on Just What The World Needs, Tabernacle, AI Records, he’s built a solid rep among DJs who really know their stuff. But it’s his vinyl-only imprint, Light Touches Records, that’s been turning heads—flipping forgotten gems and dusty disco cuts into dancefloor weapons. Now ten releases deep, and trust, he’s got more heat stashed away. Andrea’s sound has taken him far and wide—from Corsica Studios in London to Bonobo in Tokyo, Backwards in Ireland, and beyond. He’s rocked alongside Theo Parrish, Gilles Peterson, and Nicky Siano, while holding it down as a resident at Jazz:Re:Found Festival and running his own club nights, Aquario and Better Days—spaces where community meets club culture. For SPACEDUST MIX034, Andrea keeps it raw and rugged—a vinyl-only selection laced with deep Afro cuts, gospel soul, and grooves built for serious movers. He’s dropped six unreleased edits, plus two heavy hitters from Light Touches #10, making this one for the heads who like their selections timeless and uncut. We first connected with Andrea over a decade ago, back when we were working on those Mark Grusane edits, and we’ve been tracking his journey ever since. Now, it’s about time we officially welcome him to the SPACEDUST family. Press play and let it ride. RICKY CHONG (Ireland) MIX033

Happy New Year, all! We’re kicking off SPCEDUST Selections 2025 with Mix #33 from Ireland’s very own Ricky Chong, a selector who’s as sharp as his records are deep. Hailing from Sligo, a town that’s as rich in culture as it is ruggedly beautiful. Ricky grew up knee deep in his pop's funk, jazz, and soul crates. That early influence lit a spark that turned into a vinyl obsession, shaping his sound into something truly special. Ricky’s not here to tick genre boxes, only the ride baby!. Whether it’s rare disco burners, African boogie treasures, or the pulse of 90s house, his sets are all about blending the unexpected with the familiar, creating a connection that keeps the dance-floor moving & grooving. After cutting his teeth with Sligo’s Faint crew, Ricky’s quickly become a name to watch. His encyclopedic knowledge of 20th-century music, combined with his fearless approach to mixing, has earned him gigs alongside the likes of Jeremy Underground. Next up, you’ll find him in Dublin on Feb 1st at the Disco All Dayer, sharing the stage with heavyweights like Joe Claussell and the Idjut Boys. Oh, and don’t sleep on his monthly residency at The Big Romance—a spot where Ricky’s vibe really comes to life. About the Mix.... Ricky’s SPCEDUST mix is nothing short of awesome. At 2 hours and a bit, it’s a bold, dynamic trip through his record bag, a masterclass in flow and selection. Using his trusty E&S mixer, Ricky doesn’t just mix tracks, he shapes them, tweaking frequencies to squeeze out every ounce of energy and emotion. This mix doesn’t settle for predictable. It shifts, surprises, and keeps you hooked from start to finish. A blazing start to the SPCEDUST year, this is Ricky at his finest. Play it at high levels. Big thank you to Ricky, and all you lovely listeners. Bookings: https://thebuildingsociety.agency/Ricky-Chong IG: https://www.instagram.com/ricky_chong BC:https://rickychong.bandcamp.com

MASAFUMI ONISHI (Troop Works, Kobe, Japan) MIX028

Bass-in-ya-face, clubby groovers from Kobe’s Troop Music Works event/label co-founder. Feel the magic as Masafumi Onishi AKA Telly digs deep into his vinyl collection to provide us with this upbeat mix of fantasy acid-soaked House/Italo Jammers. A nod to Chicago & Detroit. Telly devoted 10 years of his time as a manager/main event booking coordinator at Kobe’s TroopCafe/club. You could say he’s regarded as a recognised contributor to the Japanese music scene for his role in ushering prominent local and international acts, and putting Kobe on the music map. The music will never stop there as he’s recently been experimenting with studio recordings on his Troop Music label, conjuring up some phat rolling beats that once again, draw inspiration from the US. Imagine MPC-style drum programming combined with snappy disco riffs & vocals Recently, Detroit's Motor City Wine Label released a 4-track dizzying sample-based beatdown under the DCTL duo moniker of Telly and DJ Duct. Be sure to check these ones! Let’s Drop in, tune out to this rugged set by the inimitable Telly Onishi. Programmed and mixed by Masafumi‘Telly’Onishi. Thank you to @Munir for the groovy art.

    OKOURU (Club Soda, Copenhagen) MIX027

DJ Okouru (https://soundcloud.com/okouru) throws us a deep, heavy hitting mixtape keeping up with our mix series for 2022. One would describe him as a multi-faceted artist:- DJ, Photographer, Stylist, Creative Director and 1/3 mastermind behind the newly promising CLUB SODA party in Copenhagen. It was his six part 'cassette series' that initially caught our ears (links below). For @spacedust-4 however, Okouru steers us into this mad bumping low tempo territory featuring a fanciful record selection and juxtaposition of styles highlighting 80’s/90’s U.K street soul, Chanson Francaise, Brazilian Hip Hop, French Boogie, Thai Synth Pop, Roots Reggae, with surprise Banghra drops. He certainly teases the illusion of kicking back on a gorgeous tropical beach without a care in the world. Just what we need rn. Happy listening! Programmed and Mixed by Aimé Mangouta. NORIO PT.1 (Rare Groove Records, Osaka) ディープダンス MIX026

Rare Groove Records (Japan) is a prized and treasured record store situated amongst a mind blowing number of fellow music stores, would you know it, classed into one of the highest record store densities on the globe. In an already declining traditional commerce where brick & mortar stores face sky high rent hikes, it’s becoming increasingly challenging to simply make a living as a music retailer, however, this particular store has withstood the test of time. With some perseverance, a vigorous dedication to hospitality, and intriguing selections, Rare Groove has become part of the record pilgrimage route for vinyl lovers visiting Japan. Owner and operator of Rare Groove, Norio Sato, has graciously presented us with the next instalment of the series. Having a wealth of knowledge in musical genres from ambient, jazz, city pop, to disco ((Check his recent compilation 4 Music from Memory’s release 'Heisei No Oto')), theres no denying this man has the ability to transcend the listener into higher realms. Who knew Dusty Springfields (Marshall Jefferson) remix could fuse itself so beautifully onto Morgan Fisher’s ambient masterpiece “Ice Melting”. What a tease! The rest of the mix defines itself beyond limits and boundaries. Arigato, Norio san :-) Osaka may not be down the road for a quick dig so they welcome you to visit Rare Groove Recs online which is updated daily, and always open for business. See link below.
