Season 1, Episode 17: The First of What Will Probably be a Bunch of Episodes About Concerts

If you're listening to this episode on the day it came out, Cinco de Mayo, maybe give it another listen after the margaritas have all made their way out of your system.  For anyone celebrating, a very happy Cinco de Mayo to you all and we hope you are prepared to hear a little bit more about why bartenders don't necessarily circle this day on their calendars as something to look forward to.  Additionally, we are also celebrating National Concert Day which something very near and dear to both Kaz and Kyle.  We're talking about first concerts, the parking lot experience, and the lyrical aptitude of Jimmy Buffet.  And, in what could quite possibly be the most heated exchange we've ever had here on STC, Kaz and Kyle dive head first into a debate surrounding the emotional ranges you can go to during a 28-minute face-melter of a jam vs. a set of lyrics that perfectly encapsulate a moment in your timeline.  Which side of the fence are you coming down on?  Figure it out during what promises to be the first of many episodes covering concerts on this week's edition of the Split the Corner Podcast.

Season 1, Episode 16: Football Movies Should Have Football in Them

On today's episode of the Split the Corner Podcast, we are celebrating National Superhero Day!  We're diving into Kaz and Kyle's personal favorite superheroes, what super powers they would want, and why the power to speak and understand every language on earth might be helpful, but would make for a magnificently boring movie.  After that, we're diving back into our STC greatest sports movies of all time list and concentrating on the ol' pigskin.  That's right, we are pulling out our favorite football movies and, believe it or not, it is the most hotly contested debate to date.  Kaz makes some pretty strong points on why there should be football movies in football while Kyle thinks taking place in a football front office should be enough.  What side of the fence do you land on?  Let us know after you enjoy this episode of the Split the Corner Podcast.  Cheers!

Season 1, Episode 15: Tall Tales and Bar Superstitions

To all the believers and non-believers out there, we here at the Split the Corner Podcast would like to wish you a very happy National Loch Ness Monster Day!  If you've ever wondered where Kaz and Kyle stand in relation to cryptozoology, we are prepared to put those questions to bed in this conversation.  As it has a tendency to do, the discussion takes a sharp left turn as the guys dive into some of their favorite bar traditions and superstitions.  Two dollar bills, counting tips before the shift is over, and whether or not it is bad luck to have your first pull of the tap result in an empty keg are just a few of the superstitions we're discussing today.  Who knew bartenders were such a superstitious bunch?

Season 1, Episode 14: The Mt. Rushmore of Sandwiches

Happy Dreams of Reason Feast Day everybody!  Don't know what that is?  Don't worry...you aren't the only one.  And that is why we are here: to give you the answers to the burning questions of the day.  Once we figure out what Dreams of Reason Feast Day is, Kaz and Kyle take a trip down the failed technologies rabbit hole and discuss what the traffic patterns of flying cars might look like.  During that discussion, one thing leads to another and quite possibly the most controversial question ever tackled on this program is tackled...is the hot dog a sandwich?  Once a comprehensive and undeniable answer is given that we feel the entire world should get behind, the guys go on to give their personal Mt. Rushmore's of sandwiches.  This is the grand daddy of all hot button topics and we hope that when its over, you'll understand why vegan "bacon" shouldn't be called bacon.

Season 1, Episode 13: Talking Beers, Beers, Beers

Happy National Beer Day everyone!  We are dedicating this entire episode to perhaps the most celebratory and celebrated of adult beverages...beer.  Whether you are a casual enjoyer of light and cheap beers or you're the guy that can tell where the hops came from in a double IPA within a distance of two municipalities, we are here to celebrate with you today.  Kaz and Kyle are taking a little trip down memory lane to cut it up about some of their first beer experiences, favorite drinking games, and the craft beer boom that swept the nation earlier this century.  There is a beer for every occasion and an occasion for every beer and we are celebrating them all on today's episode of Split the Corner.

Season 1, Episode 12: Come for the Sports, Stay for the Entertainment

If you've been following the show for a little while, it should come as no surprise that we are celebrating yet another national day and it also should not come as a surprise that this one is food related.  Happy National Potato Day everybody!  Kaz and Kyle are breaking down their favorite ways to prepare potatoes, consume potatoes, and what does and does not constitute appropriate condiments in which to dip your French fries.  On the other side of that hearty celebration, the guys are discussing one of their favorite subjects to debate: professional wrestling.  Whether you are a die-hard fan or a casual pay-per-view event enthusiast, this episode has got a little something for everyone.  From GOAT debates to favorite match types, we're lacing up our trunks and heading to gorilla before rushing to the squared circle to put boots in asses...conversationally.  And that's the bottom line.

Season 1, Episode 11: Cheesesteaks and Baseball...That's What Philadelphia Does!

People of Philadelphia rejoice for today is your day.  It is officially National Cheesesteak Day and we are going full-blown Philly for today's episode.  Kaz and Kyle are paying homage to the world's greatest sandwich by getting into the nuance, history, and regionally specific necessities surrounding this first ballot hall of fame food.  Whether you are a "wiz wit" or a "wiz witout", we've got you covered.  And if that wasn't enough, we are taking the sandwich to the ballpark and getting hyped for the return of America's pastime: baseball.  Coming off a disappointing loss in the championship game of the World Baseball Classic for Team USA, the guys are digging into this year's Philadelphia Phillies and whether or not this will be the year that we finally get to raise another pennant at Citizen's Bank Park.  We're keeping it in Philly today, so put on your pinstripes, grab your favorite Phanatic stuffy, and let's get going around the base path.

Season 1, Episode 10: Basketball Jones

A very happy St. Patrick's Day to everyone out there!  Would anyone like to place a bet on how long it takes one of the guys to pull out an Irish accent?  The easy money is on early.  Kaz and Kyle are having a look at one of the busiest bar days of the year and coming at it from the perspective of the people serving the green beer instead of ingesting it in mass quantities.  How do bartenders feel about St. Patty's Day?  We're diving head first into that before completely changing gears because it is NCAA Tournament time once again and in honor of this most hallowed occasion, Kaz and Kyle are starting to compile the official Split the Corner Podcast Greatest Sports Movies of All-Time bracket.  We figured, why not start with basketball?  We're talking basketball movies, what actually constitutes a basketball movie, and coming away with our five official picks to represent hoops.  To find out what we picked, sit back, relax, and enjoy this episode of the Split the Corner Podcast.

    Season 1, Episode 9: Suit of Armor Up...Part 1?

On today's episode of the Split the Corner Podcast, Kaz and Kyle are taking the opportunity to celebrate everyone's favorite animated Italian plumber and using that as a jumping off point to explore some things that get cast with a very wide net as "nerd" stuff.  Today's big topic is that of video games.  Once a niche and almost exclusively nerdy pastime, video games have entered into unprecedented territory, not only as an activity, but also as a replacement for traditional television watching by an entire generation of people.  And not to be outdone, "Dungeons and Dragons" at MSG...who would have ever guessed?  Grab your gauntlets, gamers, because we are on a quest for the best of the best of nerd culture.

Season 1, Episode 8: The Animal Episode

No, ladies and gentlemen, the title of this episode is not some sort of egregious typo.  It is in fact National What if Dogs and Cats had Opposable Thumbs Day and we are celebrating it the best way know how: by talking about it.  A day like this poses one real question: how are some of these days getting approved?  Is there a department somewhere that deems what deserves to be a national day and what doesn't?  Is there a lot of paperwork involved?  Do they have a softball team?  What kind of wild animal would you want to domesticate and why?  We're going to be going down those intellectually charged rabbit holes and a whole lot more on this episode of the Split the Corner Podcast.

  11. 9

Season 1, Episode 7: A Love Letter to the Bartender

Today is the day of days.  A holiday that should be celebrated more than once a year and should be held in higher esteem than Christmas, Thanksgiving, Arbor Day, President's Day, and Flag Day all rolled into one.  Today...is National Bartender Day!  On today's episode of Split the Corner, Kaz and Kyle are taking the deepest of deep dives into the job that has they have both taken on for the better part of two decades and that is really the reason this podcast exists at all.  The guys are taking a trip down memory lane to give their bartending origin stories, giving away some of the tricks of the trade that have kept things interesting, their favorite kinds of bars to work in, and why daytime sporting events in the middle of the week can make a lunch shift worth waking up for.  This entire episode is dedicated to the unsung heroes of more good times than we could ever hope to count.  Drop an extra few bucks on your favorite bartender today because we all know...they've earned it.  Cheers!

  12. 8

Season 1, Episode 6: The Thing About Being a Fan

On today's episode of the Split the Corner Podcast, Kaz and Kyle are wishing everyone a Champion Crab Racing Day!  Is that actually a thing?  You better believe it, pal.  One would think that there wouldn't be much to discuss when it comes to champion crab racing, but if that were the case, then this wouldn't be STC.  Once all of that is out of the way, the discussion turns to sports you would watch regardless if you cared about the teams, whether the NFL should adopt a minor league-style developmental system, and why sports and sports fandom matter so much more than just tallies in the wins and losses columns.  With this episode, we hope you come for the crab racing and stay for the spectacle.  Cheers!

  13. 7

Season 1, Episode 5: Would Your Favorite Musicians Make it Today?

Ladies and gentlemen, we have arrived at the day of days...it is National Extraterrestrial Culture Day!  Kaz and Kyle are taking some time to discuss whether or not they believe in aliens, potential discrepancies in technology, and why a hippie jam band festival just might be the best place for first contact to take place.  Jumping on that jam band train, the guys are rehashing a music festival conversation from several years ago which debated musicians and artists from the past that would or would not make it in today's musical landscape.  There are some artists that are hard yeses and others that might surprise you as no's.  Kaz and Kyle are diving deep into the means by which media is consumed and how that might affect the chances of some music's most popular artists to "make it" in today's climate.  We're coming in hot on today's episode of the Split the Corner Podcast.

  14. 6

Season 1, Episode 4: TV Choose Your Own Adventure

Ladies and gentlemen, we here at Split the Corner want to go on record and wish everyone the happiest National Thomas Crapper Day that you or anyone you know has ever experienced.  Today we take a moment to celebrate this man and his irrefutable contributions not only to the world of indoor plumbing, but to society and to humankind as a whole.  That is a really tough act to follow, but Kaz and Kyle are going to give it a try as they embark on a discussion based around choosing your own path by inserting themselves into different scenarios involving television.  What friend group would they want to hang out with from a TV show?  Is there a particular family or even just a house that they would have liked to grow up in?  It's a game of hypotheticals on today's episode and, as always, we've got some pretty strong opinions coming your way!

  15. 5

Season 1, Episode 3: Things Named After the People Who Invented Them

In a world where people are constantly talking about things being a "flex", we here at Split the Corner believe we have found the ultimate one.  Whatever could it be, you ask?  How about inventing something and then naming it after yourself?  And not only inventing something and then naming it after yourself, but that invention or discovery having the staying power to have it be discussed on a podcast in the year 2026?  On today's episode of Split the Corner, Kaz and Kyle are diving into a handful of things that took this naming flex and ran with it.  The guys are talking items of clothing, food, ice-sculpted water fowl, workout routines, poor ranching techniques, and a whole lot more.  You might even learn a thing or two about riots inspired by vegetarianism.

  16. 4

Season 1, Episode 2: A Wicked Point of View

Who would have thought that National Cheese Day would be a polarizing topic for discussion?  The boys at Split the Corner...that's who.  After doing absolutely no research on the topic whatsoever, we have confirmed that this debate on cheese is the first of it's kind on whether cheese should be on everything or not...and the results may surprise you.  After Kaz and Kyle hash out their differences on the validity of cheese as a main event player, we are taking a deep dive into the justifications of unwarranted origin stories.  Using The Wizard of Oz as the catalyst, the boys are discussing who or what gives anyone the right to provide a backstory to intellectual property that they didn't come up with.  Where is the line between fan fiction and canon?  Can you buy a piece of art and draw on it to make it fit your idea of what it should be?  And if you can't do that with a painting, what gives a person the right to do it with the written word?  If you were looking for hot takes on IP and a deep dive into the world of Oz, whether it's popular or not, then you have come to the right place.  Cheers!

Season 1, Episode 1: The 25 Greatest Sports Movies of All Time...Really?

On the inaugural episode of the Split the Corner Podcast, hosts Kaz and Kyle are wishing everyone a very happy National Take a Poet to Lunch Day!  Which poets are making the cut?  Are there any poets making the cut?  What fast food franchise would they be bringing these warriors of the written word to?  What would you call the private airplane of the author of one of the most successful fantasy franchises of all time?  Once these questions have been thoroughly answered, Kaz and Kyle are digging into a list of the 25 Greatest Sports Movies of All Time done by The Hollywood Reporter that came out in the summer of 2025.  The real question is: are they really the 25 greatest sports movies of all time?  This discussion has got it all...intrigue, controversy, strongly worded opinions, and a whole lot of being really upset about the movies that didn't make the cut.  Do you agree with the list or are you as blown away by some of the glaring errors as the guys are?  Find out while you listen to the very first episode of the Split the Corner Podcast.  Cheers!
