Stable Truths

Hey! I’m Elizabeth. I’m a wife, mama, and horsewoman. Once, I asked my horse and life coach, Stacy Westfall, a question, “How can I make people know how important horses are to me?” She responded: "I want you to go back and find all the things you’ve learned from horses that have now impacted you anywhere.” So that’s what the goal is for this podcast. I want to take the lessons I learn from horses and point them to Christ. Read more at my website: www.stabletruths.wordpress.com

    Love: Day 3

John 15:11, "These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full." "And I hear the laugh of God. It rings across the heavens, radiating and resounding, pounding in the horse's gallop and in the child's smile, rolling off the western plains where the bison roam and soaring with the eagles over the mountains. Our God is a happy God." Excerpt from today's episode! Good Gifts of the Rider

James 1:17: Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change." Malachi 3:6, "For I the LORD do not change." Reflection and Review: 1. Count the good gifts of God. They can be large or small. In fact, yesterday I added to my list that I saw the morning sun shine through a bottle of orange dish soap and it was lovely to behold! 2. The Lord never changes. He teaches us in perfect consistency, even when we fail to see right away what He is teaching us. But when we bend in, like we expect a horse to do, and submit to Him and begin asking questions about what He is teaching, like horse do, it becomes clear and the dance continues. What does that mean for you today? Are you fighting and resisting Him leading and teaching you? Are you ready to submit and see the joy it is to glorify and dance with our Lord? 3. What might be the Lord be teaching you new in this season? For my part, He has been teaching me about happinesses in Him, patience, speaking clearly so as not to be misunderstood and slowing down.

    Joy in the Rider

Psalm 16:11, "You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore." 1. Perhaps you are walking a path that is dark right now. The sun's rays have slipped below the horizon and the magical evening has turned to blackness with nocturnal eyes watching. "Where is this joy?" You ask. When we look at this verse, Psalm 16:11, we are reminded that God makes known to us the path of life. It is fact. He will and does and has. And the Light (see John 1) that He is causes the path to brighten even in the dark, and you can trust Him more and remember with Him there is always fullness of joy. Like a child with her mother in the dark of night. Yes it's dark, but there's security in Jesus and in Him there is joy. Cry out to Jesus today. Ask the Holy Spirit for joy for this day, this next step into the path. He is for you. He loves you. He knows you. 2. Where do you see reminders of the joy of the Lord in creation? What makes you smile? Write them down! 3. When you think of feeling absolutely full of joy, what would you describe that as? in Christ's Presence, this is always available because He Himself is joyful and it spills onto us who belong to Him! Rejoice and praise Him!

  7. 4

    The Patience of the Rider

Psalm 103:8, "The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love." Reflection and Review: 1. What might the Lord be teaching you in His patience today? How might you respond? How can you glorify Him today? 2. Today, slow down and savor the delight it is to belong to Jesus. Make a list of all the things you have to be thankful for. Thank the Lord for them as you walk with Him today. 3. How can you see the patience of God in your life? Has there been a lesson you needed to learn but it took a bit before you understood it? The Lord loves you and He is for you. He teaches His own with patience because He loves us, for His glory and our joy.

  8. 3

    Trusting the Rider

1 Peter 5:7, "Casting all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you." 1 Peter 5:14, "Peace to all of you who are in Christ." Reflection and Review: 1. What anxieties are you facing today that you need to cast on to Jesus? 2. What might you do today to take a step into what the Lord might be calling you to, even though right now you may be anxious about it? Trust Him! 3. Are you overwhelmed today, broken and afraid? Remind yourself that Jesus cares for you. Rest in his peaceful Presence. Sing a hymn of praise. Breathe and rest.

  9. 2

    The Rider's Kindness

Proverbs 11:17, "A man who is kind benefits himself, but a cruel man hurts himself." Kindness leads to relationship. Have you ever thought about this? And horses play this out beautifully when we enter into relationship with them. This brings us into a deeper understanding of our relationship with Jesus and we can dance rejoicing knowing we belong to Him.

  10. 1

    Where Peace Comes From

2 Thessalonians 3:16, "Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all." The barn is a place of peace. Horses also find peace in their riders. Our peace comes from Jesus.

  11. 0

    Loving the Rider

1 Corinthians 13:4-8, "Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on it's own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends." Matthew 22:36-37, "'Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?' And He said to him, 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'"

  12. -1

    Focus on the Rider

The old hymn sings it soft, "Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace." Scripture in this episode: Romans 12:12, "Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction and faithful in prayer." Isaiah 6:1-4, "In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above Him stood the seraphim. Each with six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called to another and said: 'Holy, Holy, Holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory!' And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of Him who called, and the house was filled with smoke."

  13. -2

    Planning Peace

Proverbs 12:20, "Those who plan peace, have joy." "I ask it of Him, quiet, 'What does it mean to plan peace, Lord?' He responds, and cedars crack, 'Be still and know that I am God.'"

  14. -3

    The Rider's Voice

"And then I turn and look to Jesus, who is my pilot. And the question forms itself, unfurling, swirling like a banner in my mind: How can I love God? What does it mean to love God?" And I see Him, He cups my face in those nailed-scarred hands, and He strokes my hair like a Father with His daughter, and He says, "Listen." And, watching He opens His mouth and if I sit still in His Presence, I can see the song He's singing and it is powerful manifested physical, and yet, sometimes it is so quiet it is like me squeezing Pilot to move. It's a word, a sentence but not in verbal words. God's voice is over the waters. His glory thunders. Psalm 29
