Episode 11 - Ultrasound, Worth the hype? Sudden causes of death, Imposter Syndrome!
Episode 11 Welcome back to StandBy 4 Tones Podcast! We have a great episode for you today, but we first have to give a big shout out and thank you to our guest Brian Hetrick. Brian is a Paramedic and Flight Nurse From Florida who took a long trip to come hang out with us here in Idaho! We had a great time with this one and you won't be disappointed. Today we jump right into a great topic and focus on some POCUS. If you don't know what POCUS is, well that is Point-of-care Ultrasound! We discuss the use of Ultrasound in EMS. Is it working, should it be used, what can POCUS tell us that good assessment skills can not? We have 3 great points of view for this discussion and encourage you to get in on the discussion as well. Next we will discuss an older GEMS article that talks about 5 sudden causes of death. We dive into these topics and again focus on how good assessment skills will help you recognize and treat these. Finally, We let Brian talk about some imposter syndrome and how difficult it can be to move into that flight provider role. This is a great episode and we look forward to hearing from everyone about it. Thanks for tuning in and remember to always Standby 4 Tones! www.Standby4tones.com

Episode 10 - Cric or Intubate
Episode 10 Welcome back to StandBy 4 Tones Podcast! It’s been a hot minute but we have another great episode for you today! In this episode, Sam asks the question of do we try the intubation or just go to the cricothyrotomy? We each have our opinions which we will share and we also bring up some crazy scenarios and images to emphasize our opinions. (Warning there are some strong images in this one)! Continuing on this topic we discuss Severe Angioedema related to Ace Inhibitors. You will get to see one of the coolest airway videos you have ever watched and we learn about a new treatment option for dealing with Ace Inhibitor Angioedema. There is some great advice and discussions dealing with difficult airways in this video. You will not be disappointed and should learn something new. After we cover airway management we discuss rule #3 in our rules for EMS series. The final part of this Podcast goes into what we are calling the “Pre-CISM”. Most EMS providers know what a Critical Incident Stress Management “CISM” entails, but why do we have to wait for something terrible to happen before we talk about these types of things. We have some great advice for EMS providers and we open ourselves up to being vulnerable and let out some emotions practicing what we are preaching. We really enjoyed this episode and cant wait to hear what you think. Make sure you hit all those buttons to stay in touch with us and I guarantee you will know someone who needs to see this episode! Strap in for a great discussion and thank you for tuning in to StandBy4Tones!. www.Standby4tones.com
