Now I'm useing "Ol' Bessy"... the "Bread and Butter"... the "everthing better sound better since i've hyped it out so much" bass with the lightest flat wound strings i could find. I used this bass when I was performing for 3hrs consecutive days, about twice a week for a few years. I've had it couter balanced and set by one of socal/hollywoods best masters. He wont see you, don't ask me. I knew a name and in a way he knew was real, so I got in. My name is not good enough to get in. This is a 4 String bass REVENGE upon some of the same songs in the previous video series. Dare to compare (not a double post). This is the third song. These big band-ish or swing era tunes are fun for LOUD trombone players. This FLASHBACK song is called “Makin' Woopi.”** The guy playing trombone in this trombone feature enjoys a good laugh. He likes to play loud and proud. I'm not mad. We all like it. He sounds good and reads better than most of the people in the room. A humble accidental section leader at the same time. His name is Stew and I am glad he is there. A classic jazz tune or "jazz standard" as they say. I think the bass part was written to compliment some of the trombone parts. I tried to stay our of the way. I usually allow myself to dominate bass frequencies and low end presents. It's what y'all want. People want hypnosis and feeling. I've lost count of the number of time I've been asked to turn up my volume while performing on this stage. I tell students, "...in the rehearsal room we (bass players) want to practice blending and playing at an appropriate volume... UH BUT when we get to the outdoor concert and the stage, they will want us to loud as fuck." Usually part of the gain knob conversation. Hopefully, you are reading this in FEBRUARY 2026 and you haven’t seen my previous post’s mistake with the dates. FLASHBACK PUTO000000oooooooooooooo!!! This is a FOLLOW-UP COMPARISON opportunity! Same song, 10 days later, different performance venues, and a weird costume. Not a repost! It’s October 31st 2025 in the vid and this is Part 2. Take a look at the previous day’s post to see the previous performance. I don’t have any complaints about this song. I know it’s weird. This was a fun song to play and like I said, I’m glad to have a song with vocals and sections for horn players to horn-sturbate. No rants… I played every note perfectly twice. It’s healthy to create walking bass lines on this beast of a bass guitar. I seem to do it all better than last year at this time. This song could allow me to move around the bass neck and that’s very healthy, but again, at this concert, I’ll probably stay in familiar territory. Best to avoid high risk maneuvers and just stay focused on my place in the music and providing the horns players with rhythmic and tonal reference/confirmation. NEXT, a new song. “Children Of Sanchez.” Hey take it easy. Get your mind out of the gutter… I say you there. I’m always there. Anyway, that’s the next song. Not a sexual innuendo. Nice try.
