StorieRising
by Robin Chilstrom
Stories are rising up all around us; all we need to do is catch them. This series is part of Cullyville Stories, a community storytelling project based in Portland, Oregon. Some of our stories are imaginative Folk Tales like those published in the StorieRising podcast (great for kids); others, published via the Cullyville Stories podcast, are interviews with innovative people like Urban Farmers, Neighborhood Placemakers, Community Muralists, Musicians, Co-Housing Families...folks of all kinds who are working to benefit their communities. This project is part of a worldwide uprising movement that is made up of ordinary people who are envisioning the healing and re-enchantment of our world through creativity, compassion, and thoughtful action. StoryRising Folk Tale Episode 2: Mooshie and the Great Forest!
In the summer of 2024, neighbors in NE Portland's Cully neighborhood gathered to imagine a world, characters, and events that might occur somewhere in Cullyville. As it happens, Cullyville is not always what it seems. Walking through the neighborhood, it seems like a little village - with ordinary folks, urban farms, dogs and cats, rabbits and crows, overgrown patches of green...Yup. But sometimes we discover floating roofs, crystal caves, petrified forests and luminescent coves - or unique characters - that lead us into worlds of imagination. And that's how this story began. This Folk Tale is being created collaboratively. But you don't need to live in the Cully neighborhood to add your ideas to the story. In fact, here's a LINK to a Dreaming Earth Press webpage where you can share your ideas. Please do. Enjoy!
