I Tried to Chase Light… and Failed (What I Learned) | SLP 0007
This week was a struggle.I set out to chase light and make it the focus of my photography, but instead found myself falling short. Time was limited, the results weren’t there, and I couldn’t quite figure out how to turn beautiful light into compelling images.Still, there were lessons—seeing light more clearly, noticing shadows in a new way, and understanding the gap between recognizing something and using it creatively. This episode is about pushing through that gap and continuing forward.

SLP #0006: Portraits of Nature (That Turned Into Stories)
This week didn’t go how I expected.I set out to shoot portraits of nature—but instead, I started to see something deeper. Not just subjects, but stories within a frame. Through layering, letting go of forced shots, and simply walking away when it wasn’t working, something clicked.I also share a recent portrait session, thoughts on Canon vs Sony, creative workflow changes, and the challenge (and reward) of showing up every day.Next experiment: Chasing Light.

SLP #0005: Photo a Day
I tried something simple this week: create one photo a day.It didn’t go how I expected. In this episode, I talk about what was actually beneficial, what challenged me, and the mindset shift that came from showing up consistently—even when I didn’t feel like it.I also share what I’m experimenting with next and a few creative ideas I’ve been working on that are making the process fun again. This isn’t about perfect photos. It’s about doing the work.

SLP #0004: Learning to See in 35mm
This week didn’t go the way I expected.I set out to continue my experiment of learning to see in 35mm, but the reality of the week looked different than the plan. Between work, family time, and trying to be present in the moments that matter most, I didn’t pick up the camera nearly as much as I thought I would. At first it felt like I failed the experiment. But when I looked back through the few photos I did take, I was surprised to find six or seven images I was genuinely happy with. Not because they were perfect, but because they showed signs that the experiment is working. This episode is about that tension between creativity and life, the resistance that shows up when we try to build something meaningful, and the realization that progress often looks different than we expect.Next week’s experiment shifts direction: one photo a day.Not perfection — just consistency.

SLP 0003 - The Camera Is Here. What’s Working?
The camera finally arrived. But the real question wasn’t about specs or settings — it was simple: would I actually use it?In this episode of the Summit Lab Podcast, I talk about the first week carrying a new camera everywhere. What worked, what surprised me, and what I’m learning about removing friction so creativity actually fits into everyday life.Sometimes the hardest part isn’t starting. It’s continuing. This is another small experiment inside the Summit Lab.

SLP #0002 - The Passion Never Left: Finding my way back to photography
Before kids, photography was part of my daily life—sunrise shoots around the Bay Area, sunset drives to the coast, late nights editing images, and chasing the next great photograph. Then life got busy.Responsibilities grew, time disappeared, and the camera slowly started staying in the bag.In this episode, I share my journey of rediscovering creativity and finding my way back to photography after life changed. It’s a reflection on creative passion, adapting to new seasons of life, and learning how to simplify the creative process.Because sometimes the passion for photography and storytelling never actually disappears — it just waits for you to come back to it.

SLP #0001 – Just Start: Beginning Before You're Ready
In the first episode of the Summit Lab Podcast, I talk about the struggle to begin. The excuses, responsibilities, and resistance that always seem to appear when we try to create something meaningful. For me, creativity has always revolved around a camera. But like most people, life gets busy—work, kids, bills, and everything else that fills our days. It’s easy to wait for the perfect moment to start. The problem is that the perfect moment rarely comes. In this episode, I talk about removing excuses, taking small steps, and why the only real solution is to simply begin. The takeaway is simple:Just start.
