Fruit Fly Eye Color Clock Reveals Cell Aging Secrets 062

In this episode of the RevGenetics Podcast, Les and Amy dive into a fascinating breakthrough in aging science: a visual "aging clock" discovered in the eyes of fruit flies. This study, recently published in Nature, reveals that simple color changes in the eye can actually predict an organism’s lifespan by signaling cellular decay at a microscopic level. At the heart of this discovery is heterochromatin—the tightly packed DNA responsible for silencing specific genes. As we age, this "packaging" begins to fail, leading to the activation of harmful genetic elements like retrotransposons. Join us as we explore how monitoring this mechanism allows scientists to visualize the aging process in real-time and, more importantly, how we might be able to slow or even reverse this degradation through targeted environmental and dietary interventions.Supported by RevGenetics – Science-Based Supplements For Healthy Aging👉 Explore Longevity ProductsReferenced Study:🔗 Position effect variegation (PEV) as an aging clock: visualization of age-dependent loss of heterochromatin and longevity associated with enhanced heterochromatin#AgingClock #LongevityResearch #Heterochromatin #HealthyAging #RevGenetics #DrosophilaStudy #CellularAging #Genetics #DNAAging #Biohacking #ScienceBreakthroughs #LifeExtension #Epigenetics #NatureScientificReports #AntiAgingScience #RevGeneticsPodcast #VisualizingAging #GeneticHealth

Study: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-024-07701-9 While we don't see anything no where near as potent as the anti-bodies described in the study, there are some interesting natural things that might move the needle in the right direction: Curcumin: Studies have found that curcumin can reduce fibrosis, and indirectly may also impact IL-11 since IL-11 is involved in fibrotic signaling. But you may need MetaCurcumin as normal curcumin has a problem with natural bioavailability. Resveratrol: Resveratrol is known to inhibit fibrogenesis, particularly in the liver and heart, which suggests a potential indirect effect on pathways involving IL-11. A better one would be M98 Resevratrol (Polydatin) as the bioavailability is much stronger than Resveratrol. EGCG: EGCG has been shown to reduce fibrosis in several organs, suggesting that it could help in the regulation of IL-11 indirectly. Quercetin: It downregulates cytokine production and has demonstrated anti-fibrotic properties, suggesting potential impacts on IL-11-driven fibrosis. N-Acetylcysteine (NAC): NAC has been shown to have protective effects against fibrosis in various organs, possibly affecting IL-11 indirectly. Vitamin D: Vitamin D deficiency is linked to increased fibrosis, and supplementation has shown a reduction in fibrotic signaling, which could indirectly influence IL-11 activity. Silibinin (Milk Thistle): Silibinin has been shown to protect against liver fibrosis, indicating a possible reduction in IL-11-mediated effects. Omega 3: Studies indicate that omega-3 fatty acids reduce fibrosis in organs like the liver and kidney, potentially modulating IL-11 indirectly through decreased inflammation. Boswelia Serrata (Boswellic Acid): Animal studies have demonstrated that boswellic acid reduces organ fibrosis and inflammatory cytokine production, suggesting a potential indirect inhibition of IL-11. Green Tea EGCG vs. Pesticides: EGCG Saves the Day in Zebrafish Study. Podcast 014

In this video, we explore the potential of green tea, specifically EGCG, to combat the harmful effects of organophosphate pesticides (OPs). OPs disrupt the crucial enzyme ACE, leading to neurological issues and long-term risks like Alzheimer's. Researchers conducted a study using zebrafish, finding that EGCG reversed the enzyme inhibition caused by OPs, increasing enzyme activity by over 50%. EGCG competes with OPs for binding sites on the ACE enzyme, acting as a protective shield. This research highlights the promising protective effects of EGCG from green tea against pesticide exposure, offering a potential solution to mitigate health risks.
