Episode 11: Grief has many names

Most people think grief is sadness.  It is not.Grief is love with nowhere to go.  Grief is shock that lasts longer than anyone warns you. Grief is your body trying to make sense of a new reality it did not agree to.Grief shows up as anger. Brain fog.    Exhaustion.      Isolation.      Guilt. Relief mixed with shame for feeling relieved. If you were abandoned, your grief includes rejection. Questions. What did I miss. What was wrong with me.If someone passed away, your grief includes unfinished conversations. Words you thought you had time to say. Here is the truth people avoid. Grief is not linear. You do not graduate from it. You learn how to carry it differently.

Surviving the Storm Intro of a 10 part Healing Series

Surviving the Storm hasn't been easy, But there is Hope Beyond the HurtCyndi “LadyFavor” McKoy knows firsthand the raw weight of grief. As a young mother in 1985, she lost her one-month-old daughter to crib death — a heartbreak that forever changed her life. Years later, she became a full-time caregiver to her husband during his 14-month decline in health. Just hours after they said their last goodbye, he suffered sudden cardiac arrest in her presence.Six months later, Cyndi faced another storm: a diagnosis of triple-negative breast cancer. She endured double mastectomy, hair loss, and the painful reality of abandonment by people she once leaned on.But through it all, she discovered resilience. Anchored by her two children and grandchildren, she learned that love endures even in life’s darkest seasons.Today, as a grief and crisis coach, Cyndi has turned her pain into purpose. She created Surviving the Storm: Hope Beyond the Hurt to offer tools, encouragement, and community for those navigating loss. Her mission is simple: to remind others that while grief may change us, it doesn’t have to destroy us — and no one has to walk the journey alone.
