In this episode of Tails of Resilience, we’re joined by Kelli Delperdang, Marketing & Communications Manager at Street Dog Hero, for a powerful conversation about purpose, boundaries, and hope in the nonprofit animal welfare space. Kelli shares how working in animal welfare has always been a career goal — and what it means to now help tell the stories of dogs rescued from some of the most difficult conditions imaginable. We talk about Street Dog Hero’s life-saving work, with a special focus on international spay and neuter efforts in Mexico, and the realities of bringing street dogs to the United States to give them a chance at a better quality of life. Kelli reflects on how deeply the contrast between these worlds stays with you once you’ve seen it firsthand. Tails of Resilience x Harrison Edell, CEO of PAWS
This week on Tails of Resilience, we had the honor of sitting down with Harrison Edell, CEO of PAWS—a leader with more than two decades of experience across animal care, conservation, and nonprofit leadership. Harrison shared powerful stories about the wide-ranging impact of PAWS’ work—from rescuing and rehoming our domestic dog and cat companions, to rehabilitating wild animals of all kinds, from birds to bears. His perspective on recognizing the similarities across species and rescue work—rather than getting stuck in the differences—offers a refreshing and unifying lens for those working in animal welfare. We explored the importance of collaboration, learning from those who came before us, and resisting the urge to reinvent the wheel. Harrison emphasized how critical it is to rely on trained experts when encountering an injured or orphaned wild animal, reminding us that even well-intentioned human intervention can cause lifelong harm without proper guidance. Our conversation also dove into the three pillars of resilience—physical, intellectual, and emotional—and how Harrison supports his own wellbeing while leading mission-driven teams. Drawing on twenty years in the field, he shared grounded, heartfelt wisdom for anyone navigating the challenges, pressures, and emotional weight of animal welfare work. It’s a rich, inspiring episode filled with compassion, clarity, and hard-earned insight. Her very first pregnant foster—a journey that inspired her to take on more pregnant pups and newborn litters, giving them all a chance at a bright future. 🐶 Whether you’ve fostered before, are considering it, or just want to hear how a small but mighty rescue is making a big impact, this conversation will inspire you to see the ripple effect one home can make. #TailsofResilience #CHEWDogRescue #FosterDogs #RescueDogLove #AdoptDontShop #AnimalRescueHub #ZodiPaws ⚠️ Trigger Warning: This episode may contain themes of animal suffering including abuse and death, as well as themes of mental health that could include reference to suicide. 🔗 Featured Rescue: CHEW Dog Rescue CHEW Dog Rescue FACEBOOK CHEW Dog Rescue IG CHEW Dog Rescue WEBSITE 🌟 Links + Resources: Learn more about the Animal Rescue Hub: https://www.animalrescuehub.org/ Explore dog astrology + ZodiPaws books: https://zodipaws.com 🎵 Music from #Uppbeat https://uppbeat.io/t/hemlock/timelapse

Rachel Davis of Lily’s Pad Rescue on Love, Loss & Saving Special Bulldogs
In this episode of Tails of Resilience, we sit down with Rachel Davis, founder of Lily’s Pad Rescue — an organization dedicated to giving medically challenged bulldogs a second chance at life. Rachel opens up about the personal and emotional demands of rescue work, including how the sudden, devastating loss of her sister left her questioning if she had anything left to give. With the unwavering support of her family and the rescue/foster community, she found the strength to keep showing up for the dogs who needed her most. A champion for mental health therapy, Rachel shares how creating space for herself has been essential to sustaining her work. She also reminds listeners that compassion for rescuers matters — that most organizations are volunteer-based, run by people who also have jobs outside of rescue. She addresses the common perception that rescues are “always asking for money,” explaining that, in truth, a large part of their work is fundraising to cover the extensive costs of care, especially for complicated medical cases. Rachel shines a light on the heartwarming, transformative side of rescuing bulldogs with medical complexities — and why, with the right support and education, caring for them is not only possible but profoundly rewarding. This is a conversation about grief, resilience, compassion, and the extraordinary impact of saying “yes” to the dogs who need it most.
