Tea With The Triton

This week, two juniors from Eckerd's Hillel: Shira Mayer, Hillel co-president, and CJ Salado, next year's Non-Jew Representative. They come on the show to talk about their favorite Hillel traditions, why it means so much to them, pajama Shabbats, crying over Adam Sandler, pool parties, Shrek slippers and more!

We got Eckerd College Garden Club leaders and Community Farm Ambassadors on the show today to clear up once and for all the difference between the Farm and the Garden. How are their vibes different? Would they wear different shoes? No shoes at all? All seniors, they talk about Farm Fest and Final Jam, trees they've planted, their favorite memories, reflecting on their time in the outdoor space and looking toward the future.

Vivian Codiga from WECX 99.9 is preparing to bring the 4th annual WECXAPALOOZA music festival to Eckerd College. She talks about the six bands—Liquid Pennies, Pilot Jonezz, Rohna, Kitty Kitty Meow Meow, Mossheads, Imagine Draggin and Regretful Dead—coming from on and off campus and tips and tricks for festival goers. The fesitval will run Saturday 12 to 7 p.m. on Kappa Field.

Bella Wright joins to talk about Eckerd's spring concert, looking back on music of years past and giving her hot takes on Sun Room's "Sol Del Sur."The new times for the concert are 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Mary McReynolds and Hailey Hill—two of the club heads of the Wild Trails Hiking Club at Eckerd College—share their favorite (and perhaps a bit odd) hiking snacks, wild hiking memories and what it's like to have 47 rescue animals living in your basement. ECOS executive elections are in full swing, and although Eckerd students will vote next week, it certainly won't be a close race. Each position is running uncontested for next school year. Triton Publications met with the next ECOS executive board to talk about their goals and why they wanted to serve in their position.

Eckerd's President James Annarelli announced his retirement, Olympian and alumnus Lara Dallman-Weiss will speak at graduation, pet president elections have begun, the new dining center is making progress and Sun Room will headline the spring concert. Plus, Eckerd student love stories! 

Emory Hutchins joins to discuss the new CAT. 5 Magazine, Eckerd's latest news and new year's resolutions.

The club heads of Eckerd's Healthy Masculinity Club watch the sunset on South Beach and talk about their male friendships, how to speak up when your struggling and the misconceptions about their men's mental health group. 

An exclusive interview with Eckerd's new student-run business, Boba Bros, as they brew the tea and tapioca pearls for another day of business. Sophomores Gavin Stella and Nate Hilton talk about how they started, lessons learned and their hopes for the future.

ECOS President Emma Kelliher discusses Eckerd commencement relocation, and the subsequent protest on Tuesday. Eckerd’s administration informed students last week that the 2026 graduation ceremony will be held at the Bradenton Area Convention Center instead of under a tent on Kappa Field, where it’s been held for the past 20 years. Heat and cancellation due to inclement weather were the main reasons for the change discussed in the original email. Among students, frustrations arose due to the lack of student involvement in the decision and accessibility concerns. A petition was quickly made on change.org, which has amassed over 2,000 signatures in less than a week. Emma Kelliher, the Eckerd student body president and a senior, spoke with the administration about getting the ceremony moved back to Kappa. This week, students walked out of Imagining Justice classes to protest the change outside of the Upham Administration building, where the office of President James Annarelli is located. He invited students inside to discuss the situation, which lasted about 45 minutes. Kelliher was there among the crowd to engage with this discussion.

Maddie Merrick, co-general manager of Eckerd's WECX 99.9, joins to talk about the radio station's new equipment, how they campaigned for the funds and how "radio rules the earth." Also discussions about Eckerd's 2026 commencement relocation, Billie Eilish and a cheese/surf/garden/tea/radio event.

"I don't think the benefits of entertainment outweigh the consequences of people being isolated." Contributing reporter Ila Khare visits to talk about collectively deciding Yik Yak sucks. Also, discussions about the Zeta Pond otters and the Eckerd Film Collective's fall break horror film festival.
