S2:Episode 24 -Protecting Your Family From Germs
This transcript features Dr. Jordan Smith discussing his experience with Melaleuca products and the company's business model, emphasizing personal wellness, financial savings, and an opportunity for residual income, particularly aimed at educators. Here's a summary of the key points: I. Main Topic & Thesis: Dr. Jordan Smith advocates for Melaleuca as a comprehensive solution for improving personal health and financial well-being. He shares his personal journey of health improvements using Melaleuca products and outlines a business model centered on customer loyalty, product education, and referring "power shoppers" to generate significant residual income, with a specific mission to help teachers pay off student loan debt. II. Key Arguments & Ideas: Melaleuca's "Learn to Earn" Program: The company offers a "learning library" with short videos that educate customers on wellness topics. Watching these videos earns "loyalty shopping dollars" and coupons, encouraging customers to learn about and purchase products. Dr. Smith claims to have saved $41 in one session by watching videos and claiming coupons. Personal Health Transformations with Melaleuca Products: Allergies & SoluGuard: As a Gulf War veteran with sinusitis and rhinitis, Dr. Smith uses SoluGuard botanical disinfectants, which do not flare up his allergies like conventional cleaners containing chlorine, bleach, or quaternary disinfectants. He highlights that traditional disinfectants can irritate skin, eyes, lungs, reduce lung capacity, and trigger asthma. SoluGuard uses natural ingredients like thymol (from thyme) and citric acid. Skincare & Sei Bella: He shares his experience with SayBella skincare, noting the importance of choosing products based on skin type. He found a cost-effective "charcoal" line suitable for his oily skin and received compliments on his "glowy" face after incorporating a regimen including vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, and night/neck creams. His wife's consistent skincare regimen is also cited as an example of maintaining youthful appearance. Peak Performance Pack & Overall Health: He highlights the "Freiburg study" which demonstrated the pack's effectiveness in reducing free radicals and inflammation. The study showed significant improvements in cholesterol (total, HDL, LDL), triglycerides, blood pressure, heart rate, nitric oxide levels, blood sugar spikes, and insulin response. Dr. Smith personally uses the Peak Performance Pack and notes its role in his overall health. Vigor FT & Testosterone: He personally attests to using Vigor FT, a natural testosterone-supporting supplement, and shares his medical results showing a 39.9% increase in testosterone levels after one month. The product uses botanical extracts like fenugreek, Longjack, and horny goat weed. Prostavan & Cancer Battle: Having battled prostate cancer and undergone radiation, Dr. Smith attributes the significant drop in his PSA levels (from 10 to 0.1) to taking Melaleuca's Prostavine supplement, combined with exercise and a wellness lifestyle. Cholesterol Management: He notes that his cholesterol (down to 122 from 250) and triglyceride levels have improved, allowing him to discontinue statin medication. Hydration & R3 Program: He emphasizes consistent water intake using a timed water bottle and mentions Melaleuca's R3 weight loss program. Vitamin D3: He highlights the need for D3, suggesting supplements as a safer alternative to sun exposure which carries skin cancer risks. Understanding Free Radicals: A video explains that inflammation and free radicals devastate health, causing aging and degenerative conditions (heart disease, Alzheimer's, cancer, diabetes). Free radicals are constantly produced by metabolism, acting like tiny, cumulative damage (compared to raindrops on a mountain). Antioxidants significantly curb free radical activity. Melaleuca's patented "oligo process" makes minerals more absorbable and reduces free radical activity in supplements. Melaleuca's Financial Benefits & Business Model: Credit Card Rewards: The Melaleuca credit card offers 6% cashback on Melaleuca purchases, 4% on gas/electric/grocery/dining, and 2% on all other purchases. Cashback is applied as loyalty dollars to reduce future Melaleuca costs. Shipping Rewards: Orders over 44 points receive shipping costs back in loyalty shopping dollars. Customer Satisfaction: 100% money-back guarantee within 90 days, even on empty bottles, eliminating risk. Referral Program for Residual Income: Dr. Smith focuses on "attraction marketing," providing value and information rather than chasing sales. He aims to attract "power shoppers" (spending 300+ points/month) who are serious about health and financial well-being. His goal is a "million-dollar a year income" by developing a system to help 10 other people make $100,000 annually. A personal "calculator" tool is being developed to help individuals project their potential savings and residual income based on personal spending and customer referrals (e.g., 20 power shoppers could yield $1,200/month residual income). Business expenses (like product use for content creation) are tax-deductible, contributing to "generational wealth." Mission for Teachers: Dr. Smith's overarching motivation is to create a system that helps teachers, who often struggle with student loan debt, pay off their loans before retirement, offering an alternative to relying on government forgiveness programs. III. Call to Action: Dr. Smith encourages listeners to become Melaleuca customers for high-quality, healthier products and savings. He also invites those interested in the business opportunity to register for his free masterclass and check out his calculator tool (links provided in the podcast description/video end) to explore how they can save money and generate income. Register for FREE Masterclass: jordanbsmithjr.biz Highly Recommend getting a Life Line Screening and don't forget to get a PSA test done there as well.

S2:Episode 23- Why I Was Afraid to Go To Sleep At Night: PTSD, Nightmares, and the Fight for Rest
Dr. Jordan Smith, a veteran and educator, shares a deeply personal account of his severe sleep disturbances, which he ultimately identified as stemming from undiagnosed Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). He outlines his journey from debilitating fear and ineffective solutions to discovering a comprehensive, system-based protocol that restored his sleep. He then extrapolates this "system thinking" to address another pervasive issue: the overwhelming student debt faced by teachers, nurses, and veterans. The Sleep Crisis: A Personal Nightmare Symptoms: Dr. Smith experienced intense nightmares, yelling, talking, cursing, kicking, and thrashing in his sleep, often waking disoriented and ashamed. These episodes terrified him more than past combat or cancer. Impact on His Wife: His wife, Carolyn, sacrificed her own sleep, constantly on guard to "tap" or wake him when he was trapped in a nightmare. Initially, she refused to sleep separately due to fear of what might happen to him if she wasn't present, demonstrating profound love and sacrifice, reminiscent of his caregiving for his late wife. Personal Fears: He feared he was losing his mind or experiencing early dementia, a deep-seated anxiety given his love for intellectual pursuits and problem-solving. Ineffective Solutions: Melatonin: Unbeknownst to him, his 5mg nightly dose was exacerbating the problem, intensifying REM sleep and emotional dream content, which is detrimental for trauma survivors. Therapy: A licensed therapist suggested affirmations and journaling, but these didn't address the root cause, and his affirmation method (describing unwanted dreams) was counterproductive. Lifestyle Changes: He tried CBD, sleep noises, Nyquil, special pillows, adjusting room temperature, and significantly reducing alcohol intake (after accidentally hitting his wife in his sleep, leading him to discard all alcohol). Sleeping Arrangement: He bought a king-size bed for more space, fearing he might inadvertently harm his wife, but this only heightened his anxiety. Key Discovery: Through a casual comment from his wife and subsequent research, he realized that sleeping on his back, which he did 95% of the time, was the worst position for someone with PTSD. It left him feeling exposed, vulnerable, and hyper-alert, keeping his nervous system in "Marine Corps watch mode." The Breakthrough: AI-Assisted System Design ChatGPT as a Tool: Leveraging his background as a technology innovator, Dr. Smith turned to ChatGPT. He provided his medical history and symptoms, seeking logical pattern recognition rather than magic. Identifying Root Causes: ChatGPT helped him identify the multifaceted causes of his sleep issues: PTSD hyperarousal, nervous system dysregulation, magnesium deficiency, REM overactivation, trauma memory wiring, fragmented sleep cycles, back sleeping, and melatonin overdose. Crucially, this wasn't dementia or aging but a treatable nervous system imbalance. The PTSD-Informed Sleep Protocol (The System) Dr. Smith's protocol, a "PTSD-informed sleep framework," consists of several synergistic components: L-Theanine: A "PTSD sleep game-changer," it increases alpha brain waves (like deep meditation), signaling the amygdala to "stand down." This reduced shouting, talking, nightmares, night fight responses, lowered adrenaline, and stabilized sleep cycles without side effects or dependency. Magnesium Glycinate: Addresses magnesium deficiency common in PTSD. It calms the body and nervous system, blocks stress hormones, relaxes muscles, prevents nighttime jerks/thrashing, and supports deep, non-REM restorative sleep. Mellow Out (Proprietary B6 + Magnesium Formula): This specific supplement (not available on Amazon) regulates natural melatonin production, avoiding the overload caused by external melatonin. It smooths dream intensity, reduces REM chaos, supports serotonin, and prevents micro-awakenings. Weighted Blanket: Acts as "body armor for the nervous system." It lowers adrenaline, activates deep pressure receptors, signals safety to the trauma brain, and physically reduces jerks and thrashing. Side Sleeping: The "safety position." It protects the chest, reduces vulnerability and adrenaline, prevents loud vocalizations, and keeps the nervous system calm, directly counteracting the negative effects of back sleeping for PTSD. Immediate Results and Broader Implications The results were immediate: calm on the first night, deeper sleep by the second, and peaceful sleep for his wife by the third. With the weighted blanket, sleep talking vanished entirely. This transformation was attributed to physiology and trauma-informed sleep science—a systematic approach. Applying System Thinking to Debt: Dr. Smith realized that the "system thinking" he employed to solve his sleep issues could be applied to other systemic problems. He highlights the "nightmare" of student loan debt, particularly for teachers, nurses, and veterans, whose public service often leaves them with substantial, long-term financial burdens. Debt Elimination System: Challenging the notion that his student loan debt (over $100,000 paid, still significant debt remaining) would only die with him, he engineered a system designed to help individuals eliminate all debt—student loans, credit cards, personal loans—in three to five years, rather than the typical 25-30. He emphasizes that "systems save sleep, systems save teachers, systems save nurses, systems save lives." Call to Action: Dr. Smith invites listeners to register for a free 90-minute masterclass at reset.teachleadandexpire.com, offering a proven system to become debt-free, just as he found peace from his sleep-related struggles. 90-Minute Free Masterclass at www.jordanbsmithjr.biz

S2:Episode 22 Generational Family History of Prostate Cancer
Dr. Jordan Smith, host of the "Teach Lead and Expire" podcast, shares a deeply personal and candid account of his decades-long battle with prostate cancer, using his experience to highlight the critical importance of proactive screening and lifestyle changes, especially for men with a family history of the disease. Main Topic: Dr. Smith's journey through prostate cancer, from early abnormal PSA levels to diagnosis, treatment, and recovery, serves as a powerful call to action for men to prioritize their prostate health and get screened regularly. Key Arguments and Events: Generational Risk: Dr. Smith was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2023 at age 68 (nearly 69). He realized his father, brother, and maternal grandfather all had prostate cancer, with his father and grandfather dying from it, indicating a strong family predisposition he initially ignored. Early PSA and Biopsy Experiences: Began PSA testing at age 50, with consistently elevated (above 3.2, often 6-10) but "normal" PSA for 15 years, often dismissed or attributed to other factors like sexual activity. Underwent his first prostate biopsy early in his teaching career (around age 50/51). He described the procedure as extremely painful and embarrassing, involving 12 tissue samples. Suffered significant post-biopsy bleeding (urine, semen) for 4-5 weeks, which created psychological stress and logistical challenges in a shared public high school bathroom. The initial biopsy results were "abnormal" but not cancerous, leading to a false sense of security and a lack of proactive discussion with doctors about prevention. Prioritizing Work Over Health: Due to financial needs (supporting extended family, master's degree for teaching qualification under "No Child Left Behind") and professional commitment, Dr. Smith repeatedly delayed addressing his health issues. He scheduled subsequent biopsies (six total over 15 years) during school breaks to avoid missing work, enduring pain and embarrassment. Compounding Health Issues & Caregiving: Stress from work, family responsibilities, and financial pressures led to increased alcohol consumption, weight gain, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and unexplained numbness in his legs and hands. He also became a full-time caregiver for his wife, who was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer (2017-2019), leading to extreme sleep deprivation and witnessing the devastating effects of metastasized cancer. Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Decision: His persistent leg numbness prompted him to demand an MRI, which finally revealed a lesion on his prostate. An ultrasound-guided biopsy confirmed Stage 1 prostate cancer with a Gleason score of six. Presented with options (prostatectomy, radiation beads, external radiation), he initially chose "watchful waiting" again, driven by his dedication to his students. A turning point occurred when a community friend was diagnosed with metastasized prostate cancer, triggering memories of his wife's illness. This spurred him to choose external radiation therapy. Radiation involved a painful procedure to implant markers for targeted treatment and was conducted secretly during the summer. Post-Treatment Complications and Additional Surgery: Radiation successfully lowered his PSA, but he later developed severe urinary issues, including splitting urine streams and passing hundreds of uric acid "pebbles" from his bladder. Emergency consultation with a new urologist led to a CT scan and eventually a cystoscopy, which revealed his bladder was filled with uric acid stones, requiring surgery. He underwent a laser procedure to break up the stones and a TURP (transurethral resection of the prostate) procedure to relieve pressure on his urethra due to an enlarged prostate. Recovery from this surgery was also painful, involving a catheter and prolonged bleeding, forcing him to take emergency leave. Transformative Lifestyle Changes and Current Health: Inspired by his experiences, Dr. Smith retired from teaching and committed to radical lifestyle changes: daily cardio and strength training, increased water intake (72 oz/day), improved diet, and a regimen of nutritional supplements (Melaleuca Peak Performance Pack, Prostavan for prostate, Vigor for testosterone). These changes have led to remarkable health improvements: PSA down to 0.1, blood pressure 115/64, resting heart rate 55. He also prioritizes skin care and general well-being. Urgent Call to Action: Dr. Smith passionately urges all men, especially those with a family history of prostate cancer, to get annual PSA tests, starting before age 40 if there's a history. He emphasizes that testing can be affordable ($50-60) even without full insurance, and can prevent years of pain, suffering, and potential loss of life. He specifically addresses his sons and grandsons, urging them to get tested. Future Discussions: He hints at upcoming episodes focusing on his journey with PTSD and strategies for achieving better sleep, and mentions his song "Student Loan Trap."

S2:Episode 21 - Why I Have Been A Wellness Customer Since 1991
Dr. Jordan Smith, a long-time Melaleuca customer since 1991, explains his unwavering loyalty to the company, focusing on how its products have positively impacted his health and finances. He challenges the notion that Melaleuca is expensive by distinguishing between "price" (what you pay) and "cost" (what it takes from you), asserting that cheaper, toxic store brands ultimately cost more in health and well-being. Main Thesis: Melaleuca offers superior, non-toxic products that provide significant health benefits and long-term financial savings, making it a "priceless" choice for a healthier, safer home, especially when compared to the hidden costs of conventional products. Key Arguments and Benefits: Personal Health Transformation (Initial Motivation): Post-Gulf War Health Decline: After returning from the first Gulf War, Dr. Smith experienced severe sinus issues, skin reactions, and sensitivities triggered by common household products (e.g., Dawn, Tide, Febreze), which he later linked to burn pit exposure and chemical toxins. Melaleuca as a Solution: In 1991, he discovered Melaleuca products, which were the first in years that did not trigger his immune system. His breathing improved, sinuses calmed, and skin cleared, making his home feel safe again. Long-Term Health Improvements: He attributes ongoing benefits—less inflammation, better nighttime breathing, fewer sinus flare-ups, improved skin, consistent energy, better sleep, and support during prostate cancer recovery and PTSD management—to Melaleuca's cleaners, lotions, vitamins, and supplements. Price vs. Cost Philosophy: "A cheap product with toxins or toxic ingredients is the most expensive thing in your home." The true "cost" of cheap products includes health deterioration, energy drain, lost sleep, doctor's visits, and unexplainable reactions. Melaleuca, by contrast, "stopped costing" him, leading to health improvements and ultimately saving him money by reducing health-related expenses. Comprehensive Savings and Rewards System: Melaleuca Rewards Visa Card: Earns up to 6% cashback on Melaleuca purchases, 4% on gas, groceries, and dining, and 2% on all other purchases, deposited as loyalty shopping dollars. Loyalty Shopping Dollars: Dr. Smith earns over $1,000 annually in loyalty shopping dollars from purchases, not selling or recruiting, simply by redirecting his spending. Cost Per Use Efficiency: Melaleuca products like dish soap (Lemon Brite) offer up to 500 uses per bottle compared to 150-180 for competitors, making them cheaper, safer, and longer-lasting. Similar efficiency applies to laundry packs, cleaning concentrates, and personal care items. New Member Value Packs: Exclusive, heavily discounted bundles for new customers (e.g., Home Conversion Pack saves $200) allow sampling various products and can be tax-deductible for certain individuals. "Hacks" for Maximizing Rewards: Ordering over 44 "points" per month to receive a $10.42 credit. Participating in "Learn to Earn" videos to receive coupons and shopping dollars. Leveraging the Melaleuca Deals app for local savings on travel, dining, and entertainment. Shopping through Melaleuca's Retail Partners (e.g., Old Navy) for additional cashback into the loyalty account. Switching Services: Switched from ADT to Melaleuca's home security (saving $25/month) and from Norton to InfoGuard, demonstrating more ways to save by utilizing Melaleuca's ecosystem. Specific Product Highlights & Personal Testimonials: Peak Performance Packs: Comprehensive AM/PM supplement bundles tailored for specific health needs (longevity, heart, brain, women, glucose support, weight management). Dr. Smith personally uses the longevity pack for men 50+, citing significant savings ($151.79) compared to buying individual supplements. He provides personal data showing improved testosterone and cholesterol levels. Vigor FT & Omega-3 Supplements: Used for testosterone and cholesterol management, respectively, with positive personal results. Fiberwise Drink: Successfully resolved severe constipation issues for himself and his partner, emphasizing the importance of gut health. Cleaning Products: Biodegradable and safe, providing peace of mind for allergy sufferers and families with children. Sei Bella Skincare: Positioned as premium, skin-safe, zero-disruptor, zero-fragrance, zero-irritant skincare that is 30-40% cheaper per use than most department store brands. Commitment and Guarantee: Dr. Smith views Melaleuca as a "total wellness program" and "preventive medicine." The company offers an "empty bottle guarantee," allowing returns within 90 days if a product doesn't meet expectations, including a 90-day challenge for Peak Performance packs. Conclusion: Dr. Smith reiterates that his 34-year loyalty stems from the "priceless" value Melaleuca offers: a safe home, a chance to heal, and a way to live better without spending more, ultimately fostering a healthier life at a lower cost through high-quality products, bundled savings, and loyalty rewards. S2-Episode 20 - Music Production Secrets
This transcript features Dr. Jordan Smith and Jordan III, discussing a range of topics from personal technology and teaching experiences to detailed insights into music production, book publishing, and a new venture aimed at tackling student loan debt. The core theme revolves around building a "generational wealth machine" through various entrepreneurial endeavors and mentorship. Here's a breakdown of the key points: I. Podcast Introduction & Personal Anecdotes: The podcast, "Two Generations, One Mission," features a Marine Corps dad (Dr. Jordan Smith) and his Army veteran son (Jordan III) discussing life, legacy, and leadership. Initial conversation includes lighthearted discussions about iPhone models (titanium vs. aluminum cases), the surprising number of photos stored on phones (Dr. Smith with 13,000, Jordan III with 3,000), and the benefits of a teacher's schedule (long holidays and summer breaks) which Dr. Smith valued while raising his children. II. Music Production Insights: Journey to Original Music: Dr. Smith initially used karaoke tracks for singing but realized the legal complexities and costs associated with licensing cover songs. Legal & Licensing: ASCAP: Essential for live performances of cover songs and receiving royalties for original renditions. Cover Song Licenses (e.g., Harry Fox Agency/Songbank): Required to legally record and distribute another artist's song, ensuring the original creators receive their cut. Critique of Cover Songs: Jordan III humorously criticizes Taylor Swift's cover of Earth, Wind & Fire's "September," calling it the "audible epitome of putting raisins in potato salad." Finding Original Material: Dr. Smith moved to platforms like Rocket Songs, where composers sell unpicked-up songs from major artists, often allowing for exclusive rights. AI Music Production: Discovered an AI music app (rhymes with "Juno") that allows for creating original songs. Learned to use the software by going through tutorials, leveraging his experience with AI and his vocal range. The app allows for crafting lyrics, adding musical elements (e.g., John Legend-style piano intro), and manipulating song structure (verse, chorus, bridge) which alters the accompanying music. It allows users to extend song length and split instrumental and vocal tracks. Cost Efficiency: A one-year license for the AI app was significantly cheaper ($200) than the $200-300 per song Dr. Smith previously paid for production. Distribution Process: Dr. Smith uses platforms like "Landar" to upload and distribute his songs. He self-masters tracks using equipment and software like WavePad (for noise reduction and dynamic compression) before uploading. Goals: Market songs on all streaming networks (Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music) to generate streams and income. His song "The Student Loan Trap" (registered with ASCAP and ISRC code) is an example. III. Book Publishing & "Shattered Chains": ChatGPT as an Assistant: Dr. Smith utilized ChatGPT (which he has trained over two and a half years with his writing style and existing books) to go from initial concept to a published book in seven days. "Shattered Chains": A book about student loan debt, specifically focusing on teachers and veterans, and the idea of young people realizing the long-term debt burden. Marketing & Reviews: Emphasizes that book sales are driven by reviews, and he leverages his experience (having done over 1200 book reviews in the past year) to generate reviews for his own work. Audiobooks: Acknowledges the shift towards audiobooks and plans to delegate audiobook production rather than doing it himself. IV. The "Generational Wealth Machine" & Student Loan Solution: Teach Lead Inspire App: Dr. Smith has developed an app and a "Debt-Free University" within it, offering various income streams and mentorship. Mentorship Programs: Book Publishing: Teaches how to publish a book on Amazon in seven days. Music Production: Mentors on the process of creating and distributing music. Course Structure: Each area is offered as a course with video lessons, and one-on-one coaching is available for an additional fee. Pricing: Pre-launch "founder" access (lifetime access, feedback opportunities, help setting up their own apps) is $997, increasing to $1497 and $1997 in subsequent weeks. Coaching is an additional $997. Student Loan Debt Program: Target Market: Primarily teachers and veterans struggling with student loans. Critique of Competitors: Student Loan Planner: Charges $595 for consultation, advises lowering payments (e.g., from $1000 to $200) and investing the difference for 25 years. Dr. Smith sees this as merely relocating money and potentially leading to commissions from financial products. Student Loan Tutor: Charges $150 for an initial interview, then $2500 for the first-year plan, and $600 annually to manage it, also focusing on lowering payments for a 25-year payoff. Dr. Smith expresses skepticism about the long-term effectiveness and high recurring fees. Dr. Smith's Solution: Aims to help people pay off student loans in five years with a one-time payment. The program provides a course to understand student loans and a network for referrals. Launch Strategy: Everything (book, song, app, website) is being positioned to launch simultaneously, with the song acting as a lead magnet. Dr. Smith has created a capture page (JordanBSmithJr.biz) for the initiative. V. Conclusion: Dr. Smith emphasizes that his program is designed to empower individuals to take action against student loan debt, particularly targeting teachers who often face this burden into retirement. He encourages listeners to download the "Teach, Lead and Inspire" app for free resources.

S2-E19-Self Publishing Music
This transcript features a conversation between Dr. Jordan Smith and his son, Jordan Smith III, for their podcast "Teach, Lead, and Inspire." The discussion centers on entrepreneurship, music, marketing strategies, and building a lasting legacy. Main Topic: The core theme is the critical importance of defining a target market for effective marketing and monetization across various ventures, including music, books, and digital products, all within the framework of building generational wealth and a personal legacy. Key Arguments and Ideas: Student Loans as a Catalyst: Dr. Smith introduces a song and an upcoming book he's developing about the student loan "trap," inspired by a website his son shared. The transcript begins and ends with a poignant poem/song detailing the struggles of being "chained to loan principals" and the "student loan trap," highlighting deferred dreams and a lifetime of debt. The Power of a Defined Target Market: A central lesson emphasized is that "you can't market to everybody; if you try to market to everybody, you reach no one." Dr. Smith illustrates this with his past DJ experience, where he learned to observe audience reactions to music to curate playlists that specifically engaged club-goers, particularly women, to keep the dance floor full. He also applied this to serenading his wife, Carolyn, by learning her musical preferences to create 100 personalized songs. He now recognizes these songs and their story can target other women who appreciate such romantic gestures. His current student loan-focused song and book are also intentionally targeting a specific market. Understanding the Music Industry and Artist Monetization: "Industry Plants": Jordan III introduces the concept of "industry plants" – artists like Jelly Roll, Teddy Swims, and Sexy Red, who seemingly emerge from nowhere with tailor-made songs, pushed into the spotlight by corporate interests rather than organic talent or underground rise. This contrasts with authentic talent and aims to further a corporate agenda. Cover Songs and Royalties: Dr. Smith explains that performing cover songs requires a cover license and involves paying royalties to songwriters through organizations like ASCAP. He shares how legendary musician Ike Turner, despite personal struggles, continued to earn residual income from his songwriting through such royalties, even decades later, demonstrating a form of generational wealth in music. Beyond Streaming Revenue: Artists typically launch with singles, not full albums. Record labels often provide advances in exchange for rights, leading to artists receiving only a small percentage of earnings. Streaming offers minimal income (e.g., $0.004 per stream), making merchandise, live shows, tickets, and direct fan engagement (e.g., photo ops) the primary revenue streams for artists. Music as a Vehicle for Connection: Music serves as an instrument to attract a target market, but the true value lies in collecting contact information (email, phone numbers, social media) to build a direct relationship with fans, as "the money is always in the list." Dr. Smith's Entrepreneurial Ecosystem and Offerings: Investment in Knowledge: Dr. Smith details his extensive investment in various online courses (Audio Income Academy, attraction marketing, marketing funnel, app development, book marketing), totaling $15,000-$25,000, to acquire diverse entrepreneurial skills. "Teach, Lead, and Inspire" App: He has developed and launched a free app, "Teach, Lead, and Inspire" (rebranded from "Romance in Motion"), available on Google Play and Apple App Store. The app provides valuable resources on topics like student loans, generational wealth, and music. The strategy is to offer the app for free, gather user feedback, and continuously update it to maintain engagement through push notifications. Lead Generation: Dr. Smith has established a system that generates 5-7 leads (name and phone number) daily, leveraging platforms like Instagram ("Teach Lead and Expire," "Debt Free Playbook") and Facebook. Mentorship and System Access: Recognizing the time and cost involved in acquiring these skills, Dr. Smith offers to "plug" others into his established system for $1500, allowing them to bypass the extensive learning and setup required to create apps, write books, produce music, and market effectively. Podcast Future and Monetization: The podcast aims to complete 25 episodes for Season 2. Monetization plans include: advertising slots on the podcast, YouTube channel monetization (which already has 3,200 subscribers), and leveraging the "Teach, Lead, and Inspire" app for product/service sales and course offerings. The conversation highlights Dr. Smith's journey from personal passion (music for his wife) to developing a comprehensive entrepreneurial system, emphasizing the power of targeted marketing and direct engagement to build a lasting legacy and generate multiple income streams.

S2- Episode 18 - Self-Publishing Mindset
Dr. Jordan Smith, co-host of the "Teach, Lead and Expire" podcast, shares his transformative journey into self-publishing, emphasizing the power of mindset, resilience, and intentional living to build a lasting legacy. Here's a breakdown of his insights and experiences: I. The Power of Mindset and Early Influences Starting Point: Dr. Smith initially struggled with the idea of writing a book but simply started writing, focusing on his experiences at Annapolis. Brain Power: He highlights the brain's power, asserting that filling it with negative thoughts leads to negative realities. Napoleon Hill's "Law of Success": Mentions this book as influential, noting that successful individuals like Elon Musk and Donald Trump shared common traits: a definite chief aim, daily affirmations, and a strong belief in their ability to create wealth—a "wealthy mindset." Critique of Traditional Upbringing: Contrasts this with the common advice he received: "get a good education, get a good job," which he found led to a loss of rights (e.g., free speech in the Marines) and exposure to systemic racism. II. Personal and Professional Transformation Through Writing "Annapolis Creed": Writing this book had an unexpected positive impact on his perspective and performance as a teacher, leading to his recognition as a leader. Involuntary Transfer and Its True Purpose: He was involuntarily transferred from his math department head position at a high school to a continuation school, initially believing it was due to a principal who disliked his influence. He later discovered the superintendent moved him due to his 97% math passing rate on the California High School Exit Examination, which was causing a district-wide graduation crisis under the "No Child Left Behind Act." His technological proficiency and background as a disciplined Marine (with a master's and working on a doctorate) made him the ideal candidate to address the academic challenge. Gettysburg Leadership Program: His success led to the district sponsoring him for a $7,000, week-long leadership program in Gettysburg, where he studied Union and Confederate generals, further cementing his leadership development. III. Venturing into Self-Publishing Discovery of Amazon: Realizing he couldn't open a bookstore, he discovered Amazon's self-publishing platform. Investment in Education: He paid $2,000 for the "Audio Income Academy" course, which taught him how to publish books on Amazon in various formats (paperback, audiobook, hardback) and market them. Learning Curve and Formats: Initially, he self-edited and used Word, leading to frustrating formatting errors. He learned to use Amazon's "Kindle Create" for easier ebook formatting and export. Each format (ebook, paperback, audiobook, hardback) requires slightly different image specifications. Importance of Reviews: He realized the critical role of reviews for book sales, similar to how he evaluates products like blenders on Amazon (preferring items with thousands of reviews). IV. Financial Growth and Strategic Reinvestment Initial Earnings: Started with small deposits ($6, $8, $35) for his first book. Significant Growth: After writing his second book, "11 Effective Strategies for Teaching Mathematics," and re-engaging with the course, his earnings grew to $60, $120, $235, $500, and eventually $900 per month. Delayed Payments: He learned that Amazon pays in arrears (e.g., July sales paid in October), meaning consistent effort builds future income. Reinvestment: Once earnings became substantial, he reinvested them to hire professional ghostwriters (e.g., "The Urban Writer") and editors, likening it to how established authors like James Patterson utilize ghostwriters and how doctoral candidates hire statisticians and editors for dissertations. Tax Advantages: Emphasizes that expenses like courses, ghostwriters, and advertising become tax deductions, benefiting his overall financial strategy. V. Leveraging AI for Writing ChatGPT as an Assistant: He now uses AI tools like ChatGPT as an assistant to generate book outlines, plot ideas, and even draft chapters. Human Oversight is Crucial: He stresses that AI is not perfect and requires human input, editing, and critical review to ensure quality, coherence, and accuracy. An AI can provide a rough draft, but human expertise shapes it into a polished product. VI. Current Projects and Legacy Building "Against the Odds Chronicles of Resilience": A four-book historical fiction series based on true stories of students overcoming obstacles at the continuation school. The series covers pre-pandemic, during-pandemic, post-pandemic, and post-election periods. "Shattered Chains": The fourth book in the series, it focuses on student loan debt, immigration, and teaching math through real-life examples, motivated by a viral social media post. Viral Student Loan Post: A personal social media post about student loans has garnered significant organic reach, with over 202,000 views, 602 shares, 226 reposts, 438 saves, and 8,200 likes, accumulating over 65 days of total watch time. This organic engagement fueled the idea for "Shattered Chains." In conclusion, Dr. Smith's journey illustrates how embracing a growth mindset, strategic learning (even through self-publishing courses), and leveraging modern tools like AI, combined with personal experience, can lead to unexpected professional and financial success while creating a meaningful legacy.

S2-Episode 17 - How We Got Screwed By Not Talking About Money
This podcast episode of "Teach, Lead and Expire" explores the significant impact of the lack of financial education within families, particularly concerning money management and student loans, leading to detrimental long-term financial consequences. Here's a breakdown of the key points: Absence of Financial Conversations: The hosts lament that crucial discussions about money, debt, and financial traps rarely occur at home before individuals enter the workforce. This absence leaves people vulnerable to making poor financial decisions. Common Financial Traps: Car Depreciation: A primary example is buying new cars and quickly being "upside down" on loans due to rapid depreciation. The hosts highlight how this cycle of debt is often passed down through generations. Jordan III's Experience: Jordan III shares his personal decision to downgrade a sports car to a truck for practical reasons (living in the country, home maintenance) and improved financial standing (equity in the sports car, lower truck payment). The "Ramsey Rule" for Cars: Dr. Jordan Smith proposes a strategy: pay off a car, save the amount of potential car payments, drive the well-maintained car for years, and then use the savings and trade-in value to pay cash for a 2-year-old (or older) used car, repeating the cycle. This method aims to build a fund to buy new cars every five years for life, all with cash, by avoiding depreciation costs. The Student Loan Crisis and Generational Wealth: Viral Post & Motivation: A social media post by Dr. Jordan Smith about veterans being "ripped off" by student loans went viral, reaching nearly 180,000 views organically, motivating him to delve deeper into the issue. Alarming Statistics: The average US teacher carries $58,000 in student loan debt, with 1 in 5 considering quitting their job to pay it off. The average time to pay off student loans is 21 years. Nearly 1 in 5 Americans over 60 still carry student loan debt, either their own or co-signed for family, often facing higher interest rates on parent plus loans. The number of people over 60 with student loan debt has quadrupled in the past 15 years and increased sixfold since 2004, largely due to rising education costs. Unpaid student loans can lead to garnishment of Social Security checks. Impact on Generational Wealth: Dr. Jordan Smith emphasizes that student loan debt prevents older generations from accumulating wealth to pass down. If someone pays $1,500/month for 10 years on a student loan, that's $180,000 that could have been saved or invested, potentially doubling to $360,000 with good investment returns. This lost potential means no inheritance for future generations, trapping them in the same financial struggles. "Shattered Chains" - A New Book & Movement: Book 4 in a Series: Dr. Jordan Smith announces his new book, "Shattered Chains," releasing on Monday, which is a raw, realistic fiction addressing student loans and the education system. Raw Language: Inspired by authors like David Goggins ("Can't Hurt Me"), the book uses direct, uncensored language to reflect the reality of conversations in schools and homes, aiming to grab attention. Math Education's Purpose: The book's premise centers on a math teacher who tells students that the main purpose of learning math isn't just to "solve for X," but to understand numbers well enough "to recognize when you're getting screwed" financially. The "Debt Free Playbook": In the book, students create an app called the "Debt Free Playbook" to educate peers on how to avoid financial scams and student loan pitfalls, encouraging side hustles to fund college without debt. This concept is being adopted as the new branding for the podcast's social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok). Solution-Oriented: Dr. Jordan Smith is developing a webinar and a model system to help people get out of debt quickly, aiming to pay off his own loans within three years. Podcast's Mission & Future: The "Teach, Lead and Expire" podcast, along with its growing social media presence (all organic), aims to be a "lifeline" for people, sharing solutions on how to save money and get out of student loan debt. Future plans include an app, monetization of social media channels, and working with "Internet millionaires" to structure the brand and introduce new income opportunities. S2 - Episode 16 - Technology Flashbacks & Car Sales Experience
This episode of the "Teach, Lead and Expire" father-son podcast features Jordan and his son discussing the evolution of technology, personal career paths, and the dynamics of car sales. The conversation highlights the changing landscape of work and technology across generations, emphasizing values, resilience, and intentional living for building a lasting legacy. Here's a breakdown of the key points: I. Technology Flashbacks and Adaptability Early Technology Experiences (Dr. Jordan Smith): Recalls using chalkboards, then overhead projectors with plastic transparencies. Describes the laborious process of mimeograph machines in the Marines, where retyping full documents for edits was common. His pioneering role in adopting early computers in the Marine Corps (circa 1970s), leveraging his prior programming knowledge (Basic programming in 1972) to introduce word processing and printing. His first personal computer in Okinawa (Japan) cost $1300 and used cassette tapes for storage, followed by "Trash 80s" with floppy disks (5.25" then 3.5"), and later CDs. He learned to build computers from scratch to avoid proprietary hardware issues from brands like Dell, HP, Compaq, and Apple. This hands-on experience gave him an edge in understanding computer systems beyond just the graphical user interface (GUI), proving invaluable when he started teaching at age 50. Modern Technology (Jordan III): Built his own high-performance gaming PC, featuring a 2TB hard drive, 64GB RAM, i7 processor, and a 3070 graphics card. His computer building skills led to a tech support job at Apple, providing support for iOS devices, and later moving into workforce management. II. Career Reflection and Sales Philosophy (Jordan III) Career Crossroads: Jordan III expresses feeling stagnant and "capped out" in his current role, despite his background surpassing his current responsibilities. Motivation for Change: He seeks higher financial compensation to support his family, fund home improvements, and enable his wife to maintain her independence as a hairstylist and be present for their children. Sales Philosophy: The "Matchmaker" Approach: Views customer service as an integral part of sales. Challenges traditional "brass tax" sales methods, emphasizing a focus on customer satisfaction over personal commission. Believes in being a "matchmaker," connecting customers with products that truly meet their desires. Prioritizes creating a memorable experience and making customers feel valued, understanding that genuine happiness leads to referrals. III. Car Sales Compensation Models and Market Realities Dr. Jordan Smith's Car Sales Experience (1990s): Worked with Toyota, Honda, Cadillac, and Acura. Compensation structure: Typically a 25% commission on the profit margin (retail price minus dealer invoice). "Pack" deduction: An additional amount ($800 in one example) was often deducted from the profit to cover dealership overhead and management overrides. Draw system: Salespeople received an hourly wage (e.g., $8/hour) as a draw against their commissions, meaning they had to sell enough cars to cover their weekly pay. Jordan III's Car Sales Experiences: Hourly + Commission: Worked for an electric vehicle company (now bankrupt) that paid a lucrative hourly wage (e.g., $24/hour) plus commission (5-15% based on volume) for vehicles under $20,000. He once sold 35 electric three-wheeled vehicles in a month, capitalizing on rebates and the influx of environmentally conscious buyers in Oregon. Strictly Commission-Based: Another dealership offered no base pay; income was solely dependent on sales. Draw System: Similar to his father's experience, where an advance was provided until sufficient sales commissions were earned. New vs. Used Car Profitability: Jordan III notes that salespeople typically earn more money selling used cars because dealerships are often "upside down" on new vehicle inventory, leading to less profit margin for new car sales. He emphasizes that current dealership business models are antiquated, forcing customers to pay premiums to cover overhead. Sales Tactics: Both agree that many customers focus solely on the "monthly payment" rather than the overall price or interest rate. Finance managers significantly boost dealership profits by selling "back-end" items like extended warranties and various add-on packages.

S2-Episode 15 -Personal Finance Issues
This episode of the "Teach Lead and Expire Father Son" podcast, hosted by Dr. Jordan Smith and his son Jordan III, focuses on candid discussions about personal finance issues and decisions, aiming to build a lasting legacy in health, wealth, and relationships. Key Personal Finance Lessons from Dr. Jordan Smith: Importance of Insurance: Dr. Smith emphasizes maximizing insurance coverage due to personal experiences with the unexpected deaths of his parents, who left behind minimal assets or insurance. He highlights his consistent choice to take the maximum SGLI (Service members' Group Life Insurance) during his military service and prioritize employer-provided insurance when available, especially before he had significant savings. Prioritizing Savings: He candidly admits living paycheck to paycheck for his first 40 years of working. A pivotal change occurred after age 50, leading him to implement forced savings (like the military's allotment system) by having money automatically deducted from his pay, creating a "Murphy's Law account" for emergencies. He stresses the "pay yourself first" principle and regrets not starting earlier. Homeownership Protection: When buying his first home, he purchased a house warranty ($600-700 annually) to cover major appliance repairs (e.g., AC, water heater), requiring only a $75 deductible per incident. Vehicle Maintenance: He advocates for buying used cars (to avoid initial depreciation) and proactively maintaining them to extend their life and save money. Jordan III's Experiences and Insights: DIY Skills: Jordan III maintains his bikes but finds his lifted truck difficult to work on himself. He acquired practical skills like automotive repair, woodworking, and plastics in high school, recognizing the value of these for saving money. "Worst Job" & Military Spouse Challenges: He recounts working undesirable, inconsistent jobs through temp agencies during a period as a military dependent. He highlights the difficulty military spouses face in finding stable employment due to frequent relocations. He suggests civil service jobs or internet-based businesses (like Mary Kay or Avon, if they have international shipping capabilities) as potential solutions for portable income. Business Ventures and Financial Strategies: Debt-Free Business Model: Dr. Smith mentions a cousin who chose Amway to build a business without incurring significant debt. He also explores small business loans for veterans/minorities and the liability protection offered by an LLC, but he personally aims to build his business debt-free. Book Writing as a Business: He discusses his process of writing books, transitioning from self-editing to hiring professional ghostwriters and editors ($1,500-$3,000 per book) for quality. These expenses are legitimate business write-offs, allowing him to legally offset income. Critical Discovery: Student Loan Interest and Payments: Viral Post on Loan Forgiveness: Dr. Smith shares a viral social media post about a veteran denied student loan forgiveness because her automatic payments were consistently "one penny short" for nine years, nullifying all those payments. Daily Interest Accrual: A major personal discovery for Dr. Smith was that student loans accrue interest daily. He found that paying his loan later in the month resulted in more money going to interest and less to the principal balance. Auto-Payment Pitfalls: He discovered that his own automatic payments, set for the 11th of the month, were incurring 10 additional days of interest (approximately $160 per month based on his loan's daily interest calculation of $16.43). This additional interest far outweighed the 0.25% interest rate reduction offered for setting up auto-payments. Customer Service Frustration: He faced significant difficulty trying to change his auto-payment date online or through customer service, encountering a representative who initially misunderstood his concern about the amountof interest paid versus the fixed interest rate. New Mission: Dr. Smith declared a new mission to educate people about daily interest accrual on student loans and the importance of paying on the first of the month to minimize interest and accelerate principal reduction. Conclusion: The episode concludes with an update on Jordan III's arm injury recovery, emphasizing resilience. Dr. Smith reiterates the podcast's mission to foster a lasting legacy in health, wealth, and relationships, strongly urging listeners with student loans to scrutinize their payment history and interest calculations. The episode features a spoken-word piece reflecting on the burdensome nature of student loan debt.

S2-Episode 14- Life Line Screening Results
The episode of the "Teach, Lead and Inspire" podcast features Dr. Jordan Smith and his son, Jordan III, discussing the results of Dr. Smith's recent Life Line Screening examination. Dr. Smith openly shares his health history and the insights gained from the comprehensive health assessment, emphasizing the importance of intentional living and proactive health management for building a lasting legacy. Main Topic: The value and insights derived from a Life Line Screening, providing a detailed and comprehensive health assessment that goes beyond typical doctor's visits. Key Takeaways and Discussion Points: Motivation for Screening: Dr. Smith pursued the Life Line Screening due to concerns about his health, a family history of conditions like aneurysms, and a desire for more detailed explanations than his primary care physician typically provides. He also sought to understand the impact of recently discontinuing statin medication and lifestyle changes. Discovery of Statin Side Effect: After stopping statins, Dr. Smith noticed the numbness he experienced in his thighs and knees (which led to the discovery of his prostate cancer) began to disappear. Research revealed that numbness in extremities is a known side effect of statins, suggesting his prostate cancer discovery, though accidental, was linked to the medication's side effects. Life Line Screening Experience: Cost & Value: The screening cost around $160 (or $200 with additional tests like osteoporosis), which Dr. Smith found highly worthwhile for the detailed information received. Immediate Results: A complete lipid panel with cholesterol results was provided within minutes, a faster turnaround than typical doctor's visits. Educational Pamphlet: Participants received a pamphlet explaining each test, which Dr. Smith noted was superior to the lack of explanation often accompanying lab results from standard medical providers. Online Portal: Comprehensive results and educational resources were accessible via an online portal, detailing findings and offering lessons on various health conditions. Specific Screening Results and Interpretations: The screening assessed multiple areas, with results categorized as "normal" (blue) or "not in normal range" (red). Abnormal Aortic Aneurysm Screening (Red): This was the first flag noted, particularly significant given Dr. Smith's mother died from an aneurysm. BMI (Red, 25.1 vs. normal 24.9): Slightly above normal, but Dr. Smith dismissed it as negligible and influenced by measurement context (clothing, activity level vs. sedentary individuals). Blood Pressure (Red): Elevated during the screening ("lab coat syndrome"), but consistently normal at home, indicating it wasn't a true concern. Carotid Artery Disease (Plaque in Arteries) (Green/Red - Mild Incidental): The screening confirmed mild plaque in the right artery, aligning with a previously undocumented finding by his dermatologist. The report provided ultrasound images and explained different plaque levels (normal, mild, moderate, significant). Dr. Smith suspects his recent lifestyle changes (exercise, diet, supplements) contributed to the current "mild" status, and plans to follow up with his doctor to compare previous levels. Heart Risk/Cardiovascular Disease Risk (Moderate/Average): These were flagged due to family history (aneurysm), age (71), and personal medical history (past high cholesterol), rather than current critical issues. Osteoporosis: Low probability. Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD): Normal on both sides. Six for Life Health Assessment: A general risk assessment based on medical history. Risk for Congestive Heart Failure: Zero. Risk for Stroke: High, attributed to being African American, family history of high blood pressure and cholesterol, and age. Resting Pulse: Excellent at 53 beats per minute, reflecting consistent daily cardio. Risk for Diabetes: Zero. Risk for COPD/Lung Cancer: Zero, attributed to quitting smoking over a decade ago and annual CT scans. Lifestyle Confirmation: The results largely validated Dr. Smith's active and healthy lifestyle, including regular strength training, 35 minutes of cardio seven days a week, healthy nutrition, significantly reduced alcohol consumption, and no smoking. Overall Recommendation: Dr. Smith highly recommends Life Line Screening, especially for individuals over 30 to establish a baseline, and annually for those in their senior years, seeing it as a valuable investment in proactive health management. He praises the ease of access to results, clear explanations, and the educational resources provided.

S2-Episode 13 - The Student Loan Trap for Educators
This episode of the "Teach, Lead and Expire" podcast, hosted by Dr. Jordan Smith, focuses on the pervasive issue of the student loan trap for educators. Dr. Smith shares insights from his recent attendance at the California Continuation Education Association (CCEA) conference, where he discussed student loan experiences with fellow teachers. Key Points on the Student Loan Trap for Educators: Policy-Driven Debt (2001-2014): The "No Child Left Behind" (NCLB) Act of 2001, enacted under President George Bush, mandated "highly qualified teachers" and 100% student proficiency. This inadvertently pressured many educators to pursue master's degrees to retain or secure their positions. School districts, keen to maintain federal funding, often provided no alternatives, funneling teachers towards university master's programs. Teachers were told their bachelor's degrees were insufficient, forcing them into further education and debt. Mechanisms of the Trap: Ease of Access, Delayed Reality: Student loans were easy to obtain without credit checks or immediate payments, creating a false sense of affordability. Borrowers often only considered the initial disbursement amount, overlooking the compounding debt over multiple classes. Compounding and Capitalized Interest: Interest accrues while in school and during deferment, then capitalizes, adding to the principal amount owed, even before payments begin. High & Variable Interest Rates: Many borrowers, like an example from a TikTok video paying $1,500 a month for two years at a 17% interest rate, end up owing more than their original loan amount due to high interest, especially variable rates. Fixed vs. Variable Rates: The podcast highlights the critical difference, advising borrowers to choose fixed rates to avoid the unpredictable fluctuations of variable rates, drawing parallels to adjustable-rate mortgages (ARMs) that contributed to the 2007-2008 housing crisis. Lack of Borrower Understanding: Many borrowers fail to scrutinize their loan documents, interest rates, or the role of servicing agents, leading to uninformed decisions. Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Failure: The PSLF program, intended to forgive loans after 10 years of payments for public service workers, is described as a "sham" that left many educators disillusioned as their loans were not forgiven as expected. Bankruptcy Ineligibility: A significant pitfall is that student loans, unlike most other debts, generally cannot be discharged through bankruptcy, making them a lifelong burden. Government vs. Private Loans: The discussion briefly touches on the distinction, noting that private loans typically offer fewer protections like forbearance or deferment compared to government loans (subsidized/unsubsidized). Broader Critique of Educational and Professional Standards: The hosts question the adequacy of minimum GPA requirements for high school graduation and professional fields like medicine and education, citing instances of individuals with low academic records becoming teachers or doctors. They criticize job application tests that include irrelevant advanced math, suggesting they are merely "thinning the herd" rather than assessing relevant skills. Dr. Smith contrasts the rigorous academic load of his Naval Academy experience (18-22 semester hours) with typical college loads (12 semester hours), emphasizing the demanding nature of his education. Resource and Future Discussions: Dr. Smith has authored a resource called the "Smarter Student Loan Playbook" to help people understand different loan types and strategies for managing student debt. Future podcast episodes are planned to discuss other major financial decisions and traps, including car purchases (maintenance fees, types of vehicles), home purchases (mortgages), and the financial planning involved in raising children. Get you you life line screening for early detection of health conditions not normally cheked by your doctor. https://bit.ly/lifelinescan

S2:Episode 12 - Life Line Screening-Preventive Health Care
This podcast episode of "Teach, Lead and Expire" features Dr. Jordan Smith and Jordan III discussing Dr. Smith's recent experience with Lifeline Screening, a preventive health service. Main Topic: Dr. Jordan Smith's comprehensive review and recommendation of Lifeline Screening as a proactive approach to health management, contrasting it with traditional reactive medical care. Key Points from Dr. Smith's Review: Initial Hesitation & Shift in Mindset: Initially believed Lifeline Screening wasn't for him due to having comprehensive Kaiser Permanente insurance, which he considered proactive with annual physicals and tests. His perspective changed after personal health battles (prostate cancer) and a desire for more extensive data and a "living now" focus on health. His wife, Carolyn, influenced him due to a strong family history of heart attacks and strokes, prompting her to seek additional screenings. Key Screenings Offered by Lifeline Screening (and why they caught his attention): Artery Disease (Atherosclerosis): Noticed "atherosclerosis" flagged on his medical reports, but his primary doctor never discussed or recommended action, sparking his interest in finding specific locations of plaque buildup. Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA): His mother died from an aneurysm at 45, and he was unaware that aneurysms could occur in the abdominal aorta, not just the brain. Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD): Observed mobility issues in his 55+ community and noted that Lifeline's test involved pressure cuffs on arms and legs—a test his regular doctors had never performed, despite his extensive medical history. AFib (Atrial Fibrillation): Recognized its link to blood clots, stroke, and heart failure, common concerns in his age group. The Lifeline Screening Process - A User-Friendly Experience: Registration: Easy online signup, followed by email confirmations, pre-registration health questions, text message reminders, and two personal follow-up calls. https://bit.ly/lifelinescan Location: Screenings were held in a rented conference room at a hotel, with designated, screened-off sections for privacy. Efficiency: Appointments were on time, and the process was generally non-intrusive (requiring only a T-shirt for most tests). Additional Service: Carolyn opted for an osteoporosis screening due to family history. The Screening Stations and Results: Ultrasound: Performed on the neck (carotid arteries) and abdomen (aorta) to check for blockages or enlargements. Technicians provided immediate positive feedback, indicating no abnormalities. Lipid Panel: Involved a quick finger prick, with results provided within a minute via a machine similar to a diabetic's blood sugar monitor. The accompanying chart clearly defined desirable, borderline, and high ranges for each test (e.g., total cholesterol, HDL, LDL) and included descriptions of what each test measured, which he found superior to typical lab reports. (Note: Dr. Smith had not fasted, which was noted for the lipid panel results). Pressure Test (for PAD): Blood pressure cuffs were placed on both arms and calves to measure blood flow and pressure, assessing for peripheral artery disease. Comprehensive Reports: While immediate feedback was given for lipid panels and general observations from technicians, detailed reports from the ultrasounds and pressure tests are sent to a medical doctor for review and then mailed to the patient, similar to pathology reports. Cost and Value: The total cost was approximately $300, which Dr. Smith considered a worthwhile medical expense and a tax-deductible item. He emphasized the peace of mind gained from the screenings and the detailed, easy-to-understand information provided. "Aha!" Moment & BMI Discussion: Dr. Smith had an amusing realization that he had shrunk 2 inches (from 5'11" to 5'9"), impacting his Body Mass Index (BMI) calculation. He and Jordan III discussed the outdated nature of BMI for everyone, particularly for individuals with significant muscle mass, finding it an inaccurate measure for their body types. Conclusion and Recommendation: Dr. Smith highly recommends Lifeline Screening for its proactive approach to detecting potential health issues, providing valuable data, and offering peace of mind, especially as an alternative to a solely reactive, prescription-based medical model. https://bit.ly/lifelinescan

S2:Episode 11 - Teaching & Student Loan Crisis
This transcript features Dr. Jordan Smith discussing his personal journey into teaching, which unexpectedly led him to confront the complexities and predatory nature of the student loan system. He argues that student loans are a significant asset for the U.S. government and a "racket" that traps individuals in long-term debt. Here's a breakdown of the key points: I. Dr. Smith's Unexpected Path to Teaching Family Circumstances: Dr. Smith and his wife, originally empty-nesters, found themselves raising multiple children and grandchildren due to various family issues, necessitating a career change for stability and benefits. Career Transition: He decided to pursue teaching after working in nightclubs. Despite having a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the Naval Academy, California's "No Child Left Behind Act" (2001) required a master's for him to be considered a "highly qualified" teacher. Educational Pursuit & Debt: He enrolled in a master's program while working as a substitute teacher. As he did not qualify for VA benefits for this degree, he took out a student loan. The master's degree cost $37,000, which he financed through student loans. He increased his teaching salary by obtaining higher degrees, which allowed him to "column jump" on the pay scale, adding significant annual income. Classroom Experience: He found elementary and middle school challenging as a substitute but enjoyed teaching high school math. He successfully managed a notoriously difficult freshman class (which had already gone through three teachers) by applying a "Marine Corps attitude" and unconventional incentives (like pizza and movies for good performance), which earned him a permanent teaching position. Income Potential in Teaching: Contrary to popular belief, Dr. Smith highlights that teaching can be a well-paying profession. He earned over six figures annually in his last five years, increasing his income through advanced degrees, selling his "prep" periods (taking on extra duties instead of a free period), and teaching summer school. He regrets not having entered the profession earlier, believing he could have avoided student loan debt if he had used his VA benefits for his master's. II. Critique of the Student Loan System The "Forbearance/Deferment" Trap: Student loans are easy to obtain, with little emphasis on amortization tables or long-term repayment. Options like "forbearance" and "deferment" allow borrowers to pause payments but, crucially, interest continues to accrue and is "capitalized" (added to the principal), significantly increasing the total debt. Dr. Smith inadvertently fell into this trap by continually enrolling in higher education (even pursuing a doctorate) to avoid payments, only to see his debt grow. Student Loans as a Government Asset: Dr. Smith reveals shocking data: in 2018, student loans were the United States government's number one asset, accounting for 43% of its income (totaling $1.3 trillion in debt). By 2025, while the percentage of income from student loans slightly decreased to 34.5%, the total student loan debt escalated to $1.8 trillion. He argues this demonstrates the government's vested interest in the system, likening it to a "trap" or "racket." Mandatory FAFSA Completion: California now requires high school seniors to complete the FAFSA (or DREAM Act application for undocumented students) as a graduation requirement, even if they don't plan to attend college or take out loans. This is viewed as a tactic to funnel more individuals, especially from low-income areas, into the student loan system, as completing the application correlates with a higher likelihood of attending college. Undischargeable Debt: Unlike most other forms of debt, student loans generally cannot be discharged through bankruptcy, making them a lifelong burden. Systemic Comparison: Dr. Smith draws a parallel between the student loan system and the Vietnam War, suggesting that powerful entities (the government and financial institutions) benefit financially from the prolonged indebtedness of the populace. III. Avoiding Student Loan Debt (Lessons Learned) Strategies for the Wealthy: Wealthy individuals often avoid student debt by establishing businesses, hiring their children, and funding 529 educational trusts with tax-free income. They can also secure business loans with more favorable terms than typical student loans. Advice for Borrowers: Scrutinize student loan account histories to understand how payments are allocated (often disproportionately to interest). Accelerate payments whenever possible (e.g., using money saved from other paid-off expenses) to combat capitalized interest and actually reduce the principal. Consider alternative learning methods, such as self-education through reading or utilizing AI tools like ChatGPT, to acquire knowledge without incurring debt. The discussion briefly shifts to college football rankings and game predictions before circling back to reinforce the main message: student loans are a significant, unyielding financial burden that people need to understand and strategically navigate.

S2:Episode 10 - College Football & Student Loans - Father, Son , Purpose
This podcast episode, titled "College Football & Student Loans - Father, Son, Purpose," begins with a brief discussion on college football before diving into the main topic: the hosts' personal experiences with student loans and the broader issues within the higher education financing system. Main Topic: The predatory nature of student loans, the lack of financial literacy surrounding them, and the need for systemic reform in education financing. Key Themes and Ideas: Introduction to the Podcast & College Football: The podcast features a Marine Corps dad (Dr. Jordan Smith) and his Army veteran son (Jordan III) discussing life, legacy, and leadership. They briefly cover recent college football games, including Army's loss, Navy's improved passing offense, and critical commentary on quarterback Archer Manning's performance. Dr. Jordan Smith's Student Loan Journey: Early Education & Discipline: Attended schools that emphasized education for upward mobility, even using corporal punishment for academic deficiencies (e.g., missing spelling words). First College Experience (CBC): Received a partial scholarship; parents paid tuition. This led to a Naval Academy nomination. Naval Academy (1972-1976): Education valued at ~$270,000, fully funded by the government, with a 6-year active duty service obligation (chose Marines). This eliminated his bachelor's debt. GI Bill & Missed Opportunities: Did not fully understand or utilize his GI Bill benefits while in the Marines, focusing solely on his performance. Observed Caucasian counterparts using GI Bill and Tuition Assistance (TA) for master's degrees, leading to faster promotions. Only learned about TA nine years into his service, realizing it covered most tuition costs ($270 of $300). The GI Bill was later given an expiration date (Dec 31, 1987), rendering his ~$37,000 in benefits unusable. Later Education & Debt: At age 50, to become a "highly qualified" teacher, he incurred $37,000-$40,000 in student loan debt for his master's, then pursued a doctorate. Initially believed in loan forgiveness for public service but found "loopholes" prevented it. Currently, financially comfortable in retirement but still paying off student loans, regretting the lost GI Bill benefits and feeling the system is unjust. He questions why taxpayers should pay his loans, but also feels his 40 years of military and teaching service should count for something. Jordan III's Student Loan Experience: GI Bill Utilization: Used GI Bill and TA for various courses (theology, video game creation, personal training) before pursuing a business degree. Student Loans: His GI Bill funds ran out, necessitating student loans, though his current debt is less than $10,000. Grants: Successfully used grants, which significantly reduced his overall debt. Shared Frustrations: Also experienced unfulfilled promises of loan forgiveness. Systemic Critique: Agrees that while individuals should pay their debts, the education system needs reform. He notes other countries offer free secondary education and sees the US system as "another arm of capitalism," questioning the allocation of local school funds. The Predatory Nature of Student Loans and Financial Illiteracy: Loan Structure: Dr. Smith illustrates how most borrowers only focus on the monthly payment, not the interest or amortization schedule. Hidden Costs: His own loan breakdown showed that for a $708 monthly payment, $480 was going to interest, with many payments going entirely to interest. Comparison to Mortgages: While mortgages front-load interest, student loans maintain disproportionately high interest payments throughout the loan's life, unlike typical loans where principal payments eventually increase. "Predatory Lending": Both hosts agree the structure constitutes predatory lending, making it difficult for borrowers to ever pay down principal. Dr. Smith states he would not have taken the loan if he'd understood its true structure. Long Repayment Periods: At his current payment, Dr. Smith calculates it would take 27 years to pay off his loan. Power of Compound Interest: Emphasizes that increasing monthly payments significantly reduces total interest paid and repayment time (e.g., an extra $500/month could pay off his loan in 7.5 years instead of 27). Lack of Financial Education: Recounts personal mistakes with car loans due to a lack of understanding about principal and interest, highlighting a widespread educational gap. Warnings and Advice: Examine Account History: Advise listeners to pull up their student loan account history to understand where their payments are going (principal vs. interest). Generational Wealth: Student loan debt impacts the ability to create and pass on generational wealth. Wealthy families avoid this through trusts and business structures. Avoid Forbearance: Warn against using forbearance to avoid payments, as federal loans aggressively pursue collection (e.g., wage garnishment). Continuous Enrollment to Avoid Payments: Mentions a colleague with over $300,000 in debt who continuously enrolls in school to defer payments, calling it "scandalous." The episode concludes with both hosts reflecting on their car ownership and financial decisions, reinforcing the importance of understanding debt and making informed choices for financial freedom.

S2:Episode 9 - Building a Legacy Using Social Media
Summary of TLI-S2-E9 - Building a Legacy Using Social Media The discussion covers a range of personal updates, health achievements, professional engagements, and insights into building generational wealth and leveraging social media for business. Personal & Family Updates Video Game Challenge: Dr. Jordan Smith recounts a past football video game loss to his grandson, Jonathan, and his subsequent year-long secret training. He eventually beat Jonathan and other family members at Thanksgiving by playing legitimately, demonstrating that focus and practice can overcome initial defeats. Grandchildren's Gaming: The grandsons primarily play Roblox and other games on Nintendo Switch (regular and OLED models) and a shared PS5. Pet Stories: Jordan III discusses burying Felix, their 17-year-old dog, after having him since his children were young. Dr. Jordan Smith shares the story of his dog, Tommy, who died at 16, and then Freckles, a new puppy who broke her leg twice, leading to the difficult decision to put her down due to the repeated injury and the owners' advanced age. His current dog is very attached to his wife, Carolyn, and requires special conditions (Channel 33 for dog cartoons and a blanket) when Carolyn leaves, highlighting the emotional attachment. A cat is mentioned that enjoys watching action movies and then gets "Zoomies." Health and Wellness Journey Professional Engagements: Dr. Jordan Smith is an Amazon Future Engineer Teacher Ambassador, conducts inspections for model schools and accreditations, and presents at conferences. Cholesterol Medication: He successfully got off his cholesterol medicine, attributing his improved health to a consistent peak performance regimen including exercise, weights, and a disciplined diet. Statin Side Effects & Research: His research into statins revealed potential side effects, including nightmares and sleep disturbances, which he experienced. Moving his statin intake from night to morning significantly improved his sleep and reduced "episodes." He emphasizes the importance of evidence-based research (peer-reviewed articles) over social media claims. Blood Pressure Management: He is now working towards getting off his high blood pressure medicine. He monitors his blood pressure at home using an app-connected device, noting the "lab coat syndrome" where blood pressure naturally rises at a doctor's office. His readings show he might be over-medicated, as his blood pressure is often low in the afternoon while on medication. Lifeline Scan: He and Carolyn have scheduled a "lifeline scan" in September, which includes virtual ultrasounds of main arteries and prostate PSA testing for men. He plans to document and share the experience. Building Generational Wealth & Social Media Marketing Book Writing for Purpose vs. Profit: Writing a book for documentation or personal reasons (like a journal) is different from writing for income generation. For income, market research is crucial before writing to identify an existing market, its location, and its needs. Business Examples: Legal Dispensaries: Discussion on the importance of location and zoning laws for cannabis dispensaries, using examples of dispensaries too close to daycares or schools. Consumable Products: Highlights that businesses selling consumable products (e.g., cannabis, gas) generate recurring income, unlike books which are typically one-time purchases (unless part of a series). Social Media Influence and Audience: Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter is cited as an example of buying influence and an audience. The Gamestop stock surge is used to illustrate how an influencer can generate wealth by mobilizing a following. Mind Valley Insights: Dr. Jordan Smith references a Mind Valley course, emphasizing that "you don't need a million followers to make a million dollars." The key is the quality and trust of the followers. The Power of Stories: Sharing personal daily life "stories" on platforms like Instagram generates significant engagement because people connect with and trust individuals they "know" personally. He experienced a surge in engagement by sharing unscripted daily routines. Consistency and Persistence: He advocates for continuous effort in business ventures, even through failures, highlighting the "2 inches from payday" analogy, where many give up just before success. Marketing Strategy for Monetization: He created a webinar using AI, structured for monetization. The strategy involves identifying the right target market and placing advertisements where that market is present. An industry response rate of 1-2% for mass communication is noted. Posting relevant content to specific groups on platforms like Facebook leads to maximum engagement, while off-topic posts attract negative "vultures." Building a loyal following of around 10,000 engaged individuals can lead to substantial monthly income, as demonstrated by figures like Donald Trump leveraging his audience to sell products. He notes that he has found a "magic group" for his webinar but keeps the specific details proprietary. Future Discussions Student Loans: The next episode will delve into student loan debt, urging listeners to review their account histories, noting the fluctuating daily interest rates (unlike mortgages), and discussing the changing landscape of public service loan forgiveness and the potential for debt to transfer to survivors. Personal Financial Goal: Dr. Jordan Smith expects his solar panels to be paid off by next year, resulting in no mortgage and no utility bills.

S1:Episode 3 - Special Report - AI and Teaching Math
Integrating artificial intelligence (AI) poses both opportunities and challenges in the ever-evolving education landscape. Let's embark on a journey through the perspectives of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) as we explore their evolving stance on AI and its implications for mathematics teaching. In November 2023, the President of NCTM addressed the pressing question: "What math should be taught now that ChatGPT will solve equations?" This inquiry underscores a pivotal moment in education, where AI tools like ChatGPT and Photomath redefine the boundaries of mathematical problem-solving. As educators, we're compelled to embrace these advancements and consider their impact on teaching and learning critically. The President's message emphasizes the inevitability of AI's presence in students' lives beyond the classroom. Rather than resisting its integration, educators are urged to guide students in navigating AI tools responsibly, preparing them for the AI-driven landscape of future careers and academia. Moreover, AI challenges traditional paradigms of mathematical instruction. If algorithms can effortlessly solve equations, what becomes of the role of educators in fostering deeper mathematical understanding? The NCTM urges a shift towards questions that transcend mere computation, emphasizing the importance of sensemaking and conceptual understanding. Mathematics education must evolve to cultivate students' reasoning and justification skills, preparing them for a world where AI augments but does not replace human expertise. Fast forward to February 2024, and the NCTM releases a new position statement reaffirming the transformative potential of AI-driven tools in mathematics teaching. By leveraging large language models and machine learning approaches, AI can personalize learning experiences, adapt to student interests, and provide invaluable insights into student thinking. However, amidst the promise of AI lies the imperative for vigilance. Biases inherent in training data and the tendency for AI to "hallucinate" unreasonable answers necessitate a critical lens from educators. Teachers must empower students to discern AI-generated results, fostering skepticism and guiding them in verifying the correctness of solutions. Yet, AI's integration is not without its challenges. The historical context reminds us of debates surrounding calculators and answer-generating tools like Photomath. While AI tools can streamline assessments and personalize learning, they require careful consideration to ensure equitable access and mitigate biases. Ultimately, the NCTM emphasizes the indispensable role of educators in navigating the AI-powered future of mathematics education. Experienced math educators, armed with pedagogical expertise, are essential in harnessing the potential of AI while safeguarding against its pitfalls. As we delve deeper into the intersection of AI and mathematics teaching, let's heed the NCTM's call to embrace this dynamic landscape with curiosity, resilience, and a commitment to empowering educators and students alike. Inside the description for this podcast are links to AI platforms for educators. During the next few weeks, I will field-test these applications and share strategies for integrating AI into mathematics teaching for students who have given up on learning. Here is a taste of information about these AI platforms, some new terminology, and another new language. There is too much information to share so that I will place a link inside the Facebook Teach, Lead, and Inspire Group. You must join the group to access this and other forthcoming information. 30 AI tools for the classroom https://ditchthattextbook.com/ai-tools/#tve-jump-18bad2f3f74
