The Worst Day to Make Fish
In this grocery store episode, a guy at the seafood counter starts a conversation by telling me it’s the worst day to make fish. A few minutes later we’re talking about why he says he can’t move down south. Meanwhile, the guy on the other side of the counter kindly tells me where I can grab free rice and asparagus. Yes, please. One of them hooked me with “free.” Thank you! The other one, well… his “can’t” kept him marooned. A real-life “seefood” story about how our words move us. This is a public episode. Hell Is A Jam
In the first episode of “That’s What Kiya Said,” I tell a story from a recent improv festival jam where a very excited newbie signs up and freezes when he realizes he doesn’t understand the language everyone around him seems to know.Even if you’ve never stepped on a stage, you’ve seen this same pattern happen in various settings in life when people don’t know the rules of the room but are too afraid to admit it.If you run jams, teach improv, or invite “anyone” on stage, this is a reminder that not everyone speaks your language, and explaining what terms mean is part of creating a space where people actually want to come back and play. This is a public episode. If you would like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit insidethevaultstories.substack.com
