    Revisiting The Blair Witch Project

    In this very special Halloween edition of THE BURNZO CAST, Matt revisits the 1999 “found footage” horror film The Blair Witch Project. Mainly focusing on how real the film feels - both in terms of its acting but also in terms of the experimental way in which it was shot and produced - Matt argues that The Blair Witch Project may not only be the best horror movie of all time but perhaps one of the best movies of all time, period.

    My Childhood Obsession with Rambo

    In this tenth episode of THE BURNZO CAST, Matt sharpens his survival knife, ties a red bandana around his forehead, kisses his jade Buddha choker necklace for good luck and then spills the beans on his childhood obsession with Rambo. Among other things, Matt recalls how he would obsessively watch Rambo: First Blood Part 2 during the late-1980s, recreate scenes from the movie with his action figures and reenact secret covert Rambo missions during school recess.

    Amateur Filmmaking at the Dawn of the Digital Age

    In this ninth episode of THE BURNZO CAST, Matt cuts to the chase and discusses all the amateur filmmaking he used to do between the years 2000 and 2004. This was truly the dawn of the digital age when digital video equipment - including video cameras, laptops and editing software - were first becoming available for amateurs to make no-budget DIY films with.

    In this episode of THE BURNZO CAST, Matt warps back to the 1980s and revisits all the 8-bit Nintendo games he used to play between the years 1987 and 1992. Games discussed in the pod include but are not limited to Rush’n Attack, Ghosts ‘n Goblins, R.C. Pro-Am, Contra, Life Force, The Legend of Zelda, Rampage, Jackal, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, Mega Man 2, Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario Bros. 3.

    In this episode of THE BURNZO CAST, Matt takes us back to the 1990s when he used to go to his favorite video arcade The Dream Machine, which was located in The Walpole Mall of Walpole, MA. This was the arcade where he would play his favorite video arcade games, including Mortal Kombat, Terminator 2: The Arcade Game, Lethal Enforcers, X-Men, The Simpsons, NBA Jam, Feed Big Bertha, Wheel’m In, and many more. Join Matt for this nostalgic love letter to the video arcade era.

    A Nod to the Nintendo 64

    In this sixth episode of THE BURNZO CAST, Matt brings us back to 1997 when he was first shown the Nintendo 64 game Goldeneye 007 (aka ‘Bond’) and it was love at first sight. In addition to providing an in-depth retrospective of Goldeneye, Matt also revisits such Nintendo 64 game classics as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Perfect Dark.

    In this episode of The Burnzo Cast, Matt Burns talks about his love for Boston-based comic book/CD/DVD/clothing/novelty store Newbury Comics. Burns discusses how blown away he was when he first went to the store on Boston’s famous Newbury Street in the mid-1990s and how all the weirdo employees left such an impression on him. What ensued was a life-long love affair with Newbury Comics, not just at the flagship Newbury Street location but also at the suburban stores that popped up in the late-1990s and 2000’s.

    In this episode of The Burnzo Cast, Matt Burns revisits the shopping mall age of the late-1980s and 1990s, specifically focusing on a favorite mall from his childhood: the Emerald Square Mall in North Attleboro, MA. Not only does Burns provide a brief history of the Emerald Square Mall but he also discusses many of the mall’s most well-known stores from its heyday, including Suncoast, Brookstone, Hot Topic, Spencer Gifts, KB Toys, Tape World, Lechmere, the WGBH store, Lecterns and even one of the coolest video game stores that ever existed: Capcon!
