Financing My Future: Life Without Financial Worries

In episode 9 of Financing My Future, Christelle shares how her stable, supported reality contrasts sharply with the typical struggling student narrative. A 20-year-old journalism student at Concordia and The Concordian’s Podcast Editor, she’s grown up with her needs fully covered—money has always been there, without much reason to question it.Christelle reflects on spending years surrounded by people in similar circumstances, and the shift that came with meeting others in CEGEP and university whose financial realities looked completely different. From never budgeting to relying on her mom as her “tax clinic,” she opens up about entering adulthood without financial pressure—and without the urgency to build financial literacy. This episode explores the quiet uncertainty that can exist alongside financial security, the illusion of “having time,” and the mindset shift required to take money seriously before you’re forced to.We explore ETFs as a tool for long-term wealth. Check out my ETF watchlist article for some inspiration. We also use the Wealth multiplier tool, to ask a bigger question: what does it take to build an independent future when you’ve never had to think about one?Reach out at [email protected] to share your financial story or offer feedback.Produced by Damarra VogtCover art by Damarra Vogt Thank you for subscribing. As a current PSYC student preparing for my Masters of Art Therapy this September, I share where my money habits started, how they look now, and offer tips to start understanding your own financial patterns.Reach out at [email protected] to share your story or offer feedback.Produced by Damarra VogtCover art by Damarra Vogt. Moving to Montréal to live with her dad gave her the stability and support to reconsider her path, explore her passions, and pursue linguistics and liberal arts. With tuition covered through an RESP, she was able to step back from part-time work, and get involved in new roles such as set and poster design for the upcoming play, The Lieutenant of Inishmore for the Liberal Arts Society. We dig into how environment and financial security can shape a student’s relationship with school, and how having the freedom to focus on learning can change everything.Reach out at [email protected] to share your financial story or offer feedback.Produced by Damarra VogtCover art by Damarra Vogt Thank you for subscribing.
