13 / ink & illustrations, from nyc to shanghai with chloe (@hare_goat_tattoo)

in this guest episode of the Creatives Project, Felicity (@felicityzhangphotography) interviews Chloe (@haregoat_tat), a Shanghai-based illustrator and tattoo artist. we talk about chloe's experience training as an tattoo apprentice in soho, to her unique art journey now in graphic design + the tattoo industry in asia. chloe's unique approach to blending mediums and embracing new beginnings is a testament to her unique multidisciplinary approach to harnessing creativity<3 about chloe:my name is Chloe, and I am an illustrator and a tattoo artist. I‘ve been interested in art since I was a kid, and it is almost an undoubted thing for me to pursue art. Thanks to my parents, I went to an art school in New York City called the School of Visual Arts and did my illustration major for 4 years. During school, I was constantly trying to find my art style and figure out my future art career. My illustrations are always line-work-based, using figurative lines to depict objects or elements to tell a story. When I had just gotten into college, I was still using a lot of non-digital mediums, and I gradually shifted to using pencil or ink pen to draw and digital mediums to paint. It gave a lot of new possibilities to my art works. The topics of my art, a lot of them or almost all of them, are related to humanities, like wars, human trafficking, the relationships between humans and other animals on the planet, etc. I really hope my works can speak my thoughts, and if one day they could make the world a little better. It would really satisfy me.After I graduated, I found it hard to survive as a freelance illustrator, so I started to look for another way out. That’s when I started my tattoo career. My tattoo flash sheets are still line-work-based. I really enjoy tattooing, especially when people tattoo my own flash or let me have the freedom to design what they want. Converting people’s ideas Into images, and people trust me to tattoo them. It is so much responsibility and so rewarding. As I grow up, now, I am no longer constrained by finding my own style; it is more important to create. Whatever you make is your children, is a part of you or a reflection of yourself. I feel extremely grateful for my capability to make art, and I hope I can make art my whole life.THANK YOU CHLOE FOR BEING ON THE POD AND GIVING ME A SICK TATTOO <33 hopefully see you in nyc soon! --------------------let’s connect // instagram: @felicityzhangphotographywebsite: felicityzhangphotography.comappreciate you all so much, thank you for listening!! <3 music by @ryzy.a Hosted on Acast. 12 / moving abroad & reinventing yourself as an artist with antoine (@bluuured)

on today's pod, felicity (@felicityzhangphotography) speaks with Tony (@bluuured) about the challenges and joys of moving abroad, and how that changes you as an artist. Tony recently made the move from Paris to Taipei, and we discuss everything from culture differences, to how his photography projects have evolved with the move, to finding a creative community in a new place. About Tony: I am Antoine (or Tony), a 33yo  french photographer from Paris. I am currently living in Taipei (Taiwan) where I share my time between studying Mandarin and developing my photography projects. I am now specialized in portrait, street and documentary photography. After a first career in the consulting industry (around 8 years), I switched about a year and a half ago to a freelance photographer path. Even though I started my journey into photography through street photography (I keep doing it on a daily basis thu), documentary and portrait photography are the disciplines which led me to take this decision. In 2021, after Covid happened, we started with one of my best friends a small media online portraying people coming from the Asian community in France, in order to deconstruct stereotypes and provide inspiring life stories. Doing so, we ended learning much more than expected on ourselves and our communities’ origins (IG : @lisezlalegende).This project and the inspiring people I met through it helped me understand that I was being truly myself when I was doing photography and that I could potentially pursue a professional career. That’s how in September 2022, I finally decided to quit my last job for photography, and I have since then realized a really large variety of projects from live music and events photography to documentary, portrait, brand or even food photography.Being for the moment based in Taiwan and enjoying my life over there, I hope that I will be able to continue documenting the extremely rich Taiwanese culture; and being convinced that we constantly evolve, that I will keep developing my approach to photography through other projects.Inspiring Photographers Mentioned: Fashion photography : Goldie Williams (@goldiewilliams.co)Documentary : William Keo (@William.keo)Street photography : oThe OG’s : Depardon, Doisneau, Vivian MayeroRecently : Billy Dinh (@billydeee), Guillaume Lavrut (@guillaumelavrut)Our small media : @LisezlalegendeTHANK YOU TONY FOR BEING ON THE POD<33 miss u and visit nyc soon!!!--------------------let’s connect // instagram: @felicityzhangphotographywebsite: felicityzhangphotography.comappreciate you all so much, thank you for listening!! <3 music by @ryzy.a Hosted on Acast.
