Solutions to Increase Nurse Retention
Nurses are leaving due to a "perfect storm" of burnout, understaffing, toxic cultures, and systemic issues. Addressing these issues requires employer accountability, policy changes and cultural shifts to retain both seasoned and new nurses. Without action, the nursing shortage will worsen and jeopardize patient care. We are just trying to explore different insights on nurse retention strategies and workplace reforms that might help make a difference.

In this episode we discuss the fact that moral injury has emerged as a critical factor contributing to early retirement. This could be exacerbated by systemic healthcare challenges, the COVID-19 pandemic, and workplace conditions that violate nurses' ethical standards. We review what we think is the definition and causes of moral injury in nursing, some ethical dilemmas and lack of support in leadership and its impact on workforce retention. We are welcoming conversation from other nurses regarding the impact this may have had on their career and how it was handled.
