    State Responsibility for Modern Slavery

    In this episode, Dorothea speaks with Dr. Marija Jovanovic and Professor Virginia Mantouvalou on state responsibility for modern slavery in the human rights law context. The episode explores how the state is largely overlooked as a perpetrator, even though contemporary cases of modern slavery highlight that the State can often act as an accomplice in these issues.     The Birth of International Human Rights Law and International Criminal Law

    In this episode, Dorothea speaks with Professor Gerry Simpson on the origins of international human rights law and international criminal law. The episode explores the common foundations of these two branches of law whilst examining their differences in scope and nature. Through discussing a counter-history of international war-crime trials, the origin of the concepts of ‘crimes against humanity’ and ‘genocide’ and how discussion of these ideas point to the need to rethink the history of international law, the episode hopes to shed light on the future development of both international human rights law and international criminal law.
