The Guilty Carer

I'm speaking out loud about my messy journey as a Dementia Caregiver for my unforgettable mother, from day 1 of her diagnosis to her death. Being a Carer can be an intensely wholesome experience but it's also conflicted by a barrage of emotions I just wasn't prepared for. Real, raw and bare, I hope the sharing of my story will help so many other Carers feel less alone, and more human.

    Increasing Falls

I almost didn't record this episode, because it all feels so raw still. But the more conversations I have with families navigating advancing dementias the more I hear how much increasing falls impacts their ability to provide safe care. In this episode, I recount our journey with my mum's falls and how we tried to best handle this incredibly distressing time. Oh, and a slight language warning... I swear once.Join our private Facebook group @TheGuiltyCarer to further our conversations.Proudly produced by 11eleven | Hosted by Jason van Genderen | Sound mixed by Dean Mackie, Voicegarden Studios | The Guilty Carer Podcast © Copyright 2025 all rights reserved.

    Care-giving and Care-taking

For most of my Carer journey, I espoused the many positives being a Carer instilled in me. What I found way harder, was being open about the many things it took from me as well. I felt a deep shame (and a weighty guilt) accepting help or admitting this, and in this podcast I open this conversation with you.Join our private Facebook group @TheGuiltyCarer to further our conversations.Proudly produced by 11eleven | Hosted by Jason van Genderen | Sound mixed by Dean Mackie, Voicegarden Studios | The Guilty Carer Podcast © Copyright 2025 all rights reserved.Join our private Facebook group @TheGuiltyCarer to further our conversations.Proudly produced by 11eleven | Hosted by Jason van Genderen | Sound mixed by Dean Mackie, Voicegarden Studios | The Guilty Carer Podcast © Copyright 2025 all rights reserved.
