Here is a re-imagined and I hope better quality remix / remake. I had envisaged this being much more Pink Floyd with lyrics, but alas not to be. Still it has some merits. Halloween (The Tortured Soul Edition) 2025 Composer : John Carpenter Production : The Hutch ...well this was a fun few hours! My version of this iconic horror theme. I love how horror movies rely heavily on scary sound FXs and use musical discord, friction and disharmony to create tension and fear. The antithesis of pop music. Apparently the first rush previews of Halloween the film had no music and the film execs thought it was not scary UNTIL much later, when John Carpenter composed and added his own music... then of course it became an iconic film for its genre. TECH: All sounds used her are based around the old 80's analogue aggressive sounding OB-Xa Synth, produced in Ableton Live 12. Don't have nightmares!

Cook So this new Melodic House style groove / EDM instrumental is a synth' based mashup inspired by great tracks from Miss Monique, Robert Miles, Morten and similar. It feels uplifting to me. I had the main piano melody first and wanted a vocal track, with a working title "Flying High & Fast" ... but it wasn't working! Walking On The Moon - Cover 2025 Made In The Hutch* As made famous by The Police / Sting. Originally released in 1979 as a follow-up to "Message In A Bottle" and taken from their Album "Reggatta de Blanc". Walking on the Moon has a sparse spacious feel, centred around a simple bass riff, reggae style percussion and plenty of guitar FXs. Of course, Sting's catchy and repetitive lyrics helps this be an easy sing along track. This is very interesting sonically and shows off what can be done with a minimal of instruments as a 3-piece band. Stewart's drums are always interesting as he mixes up the patterns interspersed with triplets and off-beat accent's and dowsed in reverb lends itself to dub reggae. I have added more sonic textures but mainly stayed true to the original sounds and structure. I hope it pleases the ears... LIKE or COMMENT please. I'd love to know what you think. Although a simple 3 chord song, the speed (160bpm) and its relentless straight 8th note "chug" was a challenge then and now. The guitar solo is a typical pentatonic E scale at speed, with whole tone bends high up the neck. But, it's still a rocker 50+ years later. c2025 The Hutch / D. Cook : This track is an evolving sci-fi style soundscape, cinematic piece that first saw the light (or dark!) about 6 years ago. The premise being a methodical, long, lonely space journey. I visualised it for a movie. In fact, I did an "eye-candy" YouTube video at that time around space travel to a far-flung planet, I first called it '34 Million Miles'. About 2 years ago, I re-recorded it for my Cyber Warz E.P. The very unusual synth' lead instrument call me back again... I would describe the lead melody as a kind of rusty, distorted, unpredictable Sax'aphone sound. Weird, but I like it, and it became the inspiration for more Synth' based music under my Cyber Warz E.P. This '2025 remix is mainly a sonic clean-up, and I added some new "sparkle" here and there. A new Ext'd Rock Radio Mix, Version #1. Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) as made famous by the Eurythmics and a classic early synthpop hit from '83. I always liked this infectious riff / beat but wanted to beef it up a bit with rock guitar. So here it is! Overall I am quite happy with this remake. Apart from the vocal stems this is a "from scratch" production using Ableton Live 10, NI Komplete VSTis, Guitar Rig 5, various stock plugins and iZotope Ozone. I still think this could be a clearer mix, maybe I over complicated it, ... maybe even a tad too long. Let me know what you think. My '23 version(cover) of the classic Led Zepp' guitar powerhouse that is "Black Dog" originally released way back in 1971. Led Zeppelin, one of my all time fave rock bands discovered in the glorious summer of '76 ... actually a mate had nicked the double cassette "Physical Graffiti" from a well known chain store and we listened to it so many times in the town square under the hot sun of '76. That album woke me up musically from the tamer pop glam in the charts at the time. Glory Days! So this was a bitch to get right as it has so many weird tempo and time changes. Apparently, a deliberate ploy of the band to make it harder to copy. Still that is what the musical grid and note fractions are for. That and modern recording techniques allow for more trial and error takes. (But in the days of tape, for sure harder). I am particularly happy with my drum track here. yes, it's midi programmed but I studied the original track / drum score a lot to get the fills and grooves as close as I could. Sa-ee-na) is a North West London-based singer/songwriter/producer influenced by Neo-Soul, Rnb, Jazz & Hip Hop. I recorded all the instrumentals, apart from the jazzy sax phrases. Say your prayers as the 12 bells toll... Nooo... It's too late ... the final doom of Hell rings out. The task was to take a few short sound FXs and Imperial Stem loops and turn them into an original Halloween-esk theme. The tick tock and the war drum stems inspired me to write this one. I think I approached it more as a TV Drama / Thriller theme tune. Feedback welcome!

Here is my new take* on the EPIC 60's classic by the Moody Blues. Moody indeed, with its slow 6/8 groove and angelic ethereal ambience. Different from so much of the charts at that time. When first released as a single in 1967, it reached number 19 on the UK Singles Chart but re-released in '72 and got Billboard #2 in the States. It propelled the Moody Blues into pop music history. As you can imagine there are many covers of this iconic composition... I hope mine does it some justice. Mint Choc Chip (Funk It Up) Composer Derek Cook : Made in The Hutch c2022 Funk style grooves with a driving, upbeat tempo. The track maintains a steady energy with a focus on the interplay between the rhythmic guitar and the melodic funky bass line. The arrangement features a bright, clean electric guitar playing a rhythmic, palm-muted eighth-note pattern. A prominent synth bass provides a melodic, syncopated counterpoint to the guitar. The drum kit consists of a tight, dry snare and a consistent kick drum pattern. A shimmering, high-frequency synth pad enters during the transitions, adding harmonic depth. NOTE: This track was written, produced and submitted for a Metapop Music Challenge @metapop.com. The brief was to take a few solo 4 bar guitar loops and compose a whole track around them in celebration of the release of a new virtual guitar plugin called "Electric Mint" by Native Instruments. I used at least 5 samples in this track, including a minor pentatonic ditty. Recorded and mixed with Ableton Live 10 and using : Studio Drummer, Rickenbacker Bass, Hybrid Keys, Scarbee Mark 1 Piano, Arkhis Strings and Session Horns. Let me know what you think.

My cover* of the 1970 metal hit "Paranoid" as made famous by Black Sabbath, the fathers of heavy metal. +++++ Made In The Hutch c2022 +++++ So after nearly 3 years of my main musical equipment and guitars being in storage (due to a major house move, work and covid restrictions, etc) I am finally back to re-learning the rock guitar. I got the finger blisters to prove it! +++++ Paranoid +++++ So this was the first rock song I ever played on stage with my mate's band "Standard Issue", if my memory serves me well. Probably late 1970's. Although a simple 3 chord song, the speed (160bpm) and its relentless straight 8 rock "chug" was a challenge then and now. The guitar solo was a typical pentatonic E scale. But at that speed, with whole tone bends and being high up the neck took some practise... I had to record the solo in slower tempos to get up to speed! Of course it featured Eddy's Gretsch "twangy" guitar sound.... There was a lot of this guitar music about in the late 50's /60's which I still have a fondness for. Guitars and Amps where only just evolving way back then, and so they had very little in the way of Guitar FXs, just a clean sound and maybe some reverb. The first track I learned to play on electric guitar was "Apache" by The Shadows. (like 1000's of others no doubt) Anyway, this track and the twangy guitar sound is still popular and kinda defines the early rock'n'roll years. Love it! ++ Please hit LIKE or FOLLOW ++

CLO – Sliding Doors Remix Contest 2021 #CLOSlidingDoorsRemixContest2021 This is my entry for the "Clo - Sliding Doors" remix contest c/o of Produce Like a Pro, Clo, iZotope and Native Instruments. I used various stems, but most of this remix uses new instruments and arrangements. CLO’s sound is an effortless blend of pop, soul and doo-wop – emerged organically growing up listening to Motown greats like Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye. So this was an unplanned "happy accident" recorded entirely with Ableton stock digital instruments and FXs. ++ So I was learning Simpler (an Ableton Sample Player) to make a new bass sound and then added a 606 Drum Kit. I randomly produced a Trap beat to start with and added simple chords. After seeing the Droid image by Erik McLean, it sparked off a sequence of inspiration. "Cascade" Made in The Hutch Copyright c2021 An original cine' /TV style theme, composed by Derek Cook. This version is an experimental piece, scored and arranged to accompany a short video I am making : "Cascada Pantano Elche". (as shown in my cover art). Having recently visited this dam / reservoir on the Rio Vinalopo, I took some pictures and video. I needed some music to accompany the video and decided to write my own music. This track was inspired by "Loneliness" by Epic Mountain, although my music has taken on its own character. Production: So this uses mainly my BBC Orchestra sampled instruments. Worked mainly in Ableton Live #10. Mastered using Izotope Ozone 9 tools. Please HIT the LIKE button just to keep my spirits up! ;0 )
