Money, Mental Health, and Entrepreneurship
On this episode, we speak to an expert accountant who has her MBA, her own businesses and decades of experience helping entrepreneurs get (and stay) on their feet. The failure rate of entrepreneurial ventures is staggering, and less than 20% of businesses are owned by women. They face big challenges, often balancing children and aging parents. Much of the failure rate of all small businesses can be attributed to “not knowing what you don’t know”. When Kimothy saw a post by Nicky Beauclaire on her Facebook page she just knew she had to invite her to be on the show. Living on less than $1,100 a month (Canadian) on a disability cheque, Nicky has limited options to live and thrive. What happened next was a heartfelt and stunningly vulnerable conversation with someone wanting/needing help but finding doors closed to her. Former Member of Ontario Parliament Talks about Mental Health, Including Her Own
MPP Lisa Macleod did the “unthinkable”. She talked about being a member of provincial (Ontario) parliament while having a mental health challenge.Diagnosed with bi-polar disorder, we’re going to talk today about how we SAY we support mental health – but do we really?? We need to do way more than “Let’s Talk”....let’s DO…Since leaving government, Lisa has travelled with something she’s going to talk about here…women and travel…which resonates with Kimothy strongly, as she travels full-time, for her own mental health.Lisa has been vocal and proud but dealt with a lot of sh+t because we TALK about mental health, but we sure don’t do a great job of supporting people who break. Horrific Story of Survival, Suffering and Suicidal Ideation
At the heart of every storm, there can still be strength, and Elaine Lindsay is living proof.Elaine is a survivor, to be sure, but she is also an entrepreneur, and while she has tried to stay alive… at one time she didn’t want to do so.Elaine has suffered unimaginable grief, loss and medical complications after a horrific car crash. Her story will rock you….and if this triggers you we strongly encourage you to reach out for help, immediately. As Elaine will talk about, there is hope. The podcaster and social media expert talks about some really difficult stuff. Amy and Kimothy didn’t have much to say in this one because we were so “phucking” gobsmacked at her story. Just when we didn’t think it could get worse…it did. It’s remarkable that a person with so much trauma is still standing, but barely as she still suffers with injuries and grief.Elaine has dedicated her life to helping others to simply keep living, even for just another day. She reminds us that healing isn’t linear, that survival is an act of courage, and that sometimes, the most powerful thing we can do is choose to stay—and help someone else do the same.Elaine teaches us about perseverance, purpose and patience. Financial Freak Outs. Control in Chaos
If you believe almost everything you hear, the economies of many nations are in real trouble. You know who else is? Us… the women who live in those nations. For those of us invested in “stuff” (that’s Kimothy’s technical term for it), the stress is real and impacts women more than men, simply based on a number of factors. It can range from the disparity related to single parenting or the enormous differences in leadership roles, so the decisions are out of your hands. Just look at the number of men on Fortune 500 boards versus women. Right? So what the phuck to do? First, Amy and Kimothy like information. And, we’re not talking about reading manuals and economic reports (Kim failed Grade 10 math). We’re talking about getting someone who HAS experience to tell us how to brace for our own futures.Janet Gray, an advice-only certified financial planner joins the podcast to speak directly to women unnerved by what happens next…and how to prepare for it.Grab a coffee…and join us… Hosted on Acast. When You Get a Call That Changes Everything in Your Life. What Then?
Communications leader and athlete Susan Marsh-Marconi had it all…or so it seemed. A series of traumas impacted her life in a profound way but she’s still standing. She shares her story to help others because vulnerability, she says, is the key to her ability to cope. Reaching, teaching and preaching…she knows that we cannot pretend we’re okay!!This advocate and change maker was a sexual assault survivor in a case that made national headlines a long time ago. And, as if that wasn’t enough trauma for one lifetime, she got a call one day that her oldest child had been in a very serious car crash, and would be - forever - changed. The brain injury changed her daughter in a profound way, so her career-oriented mother pivoted to be the caregiver of her adult daughter, while raising two others and trying to honour their Indigenous heritage in that approach. This podcast isn’t about showing how much you can endure. We don’t hand out awards for just getting sh+t done!. It’s about being authentic so you can shorten the path of learning for other women, and find your community for support.. And we have some belly laughs along the way.Grab a coffee…and join us…. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
