The Middle Leaders Project

The Middle Leaders Project is a podcast for classroom teachers navigating the transition into school leadership. Hosted by Zac, a middle leader in a regional Western Australian school in the early stages of his first formal leadership role, each episode draws on the Identity, Articulation, and Activation framework to help aspiring and early-stage leaders understand who they are as leaders, communicate that clearly, and create opportunity. No theory from the sidelines. Just honest, practical conversation from inside the transition.

Episode 1: Why I Started This

In the first episode of Middle Leaders Project, Zac introduces the podcast and the gap it exists to fill. If you are somewhere between classroom teacher and formal middle leader, you have probably noticed that most leadership development is either aimed at people further along than you, or it feels abstract and disconnected from the actual work. This episode explores why that gap exists, what actually helped during the transition, and why the hardest part of becoming a leader is rarely about skills.Topics covered include the limits of formal leadership PL, the value of direct coaching conversations, what winning a reclassified role actually felt like, and the identity shift that comes with stepping into middle leadership.Take the free Middle Leaders Self-Assessment at https://middleleadersproject.com.au/middle-leaders-self-assessment-tool/
