#40 Renate de Koker: Perception, responsibility & unlocking the feminine
Today I am welcoming Renate de Koker back into the studio to discuss a rising issue in today's western social paradigm; the battle of the sexes. The conversation begins with the nature of perception, and instead of trying to convince others to see what we see, Renate proposes we bring perception back to the senses. Stop intellectualising, to start witnessing. We explore why women might crave the presence of a grounded masculine, and how deeper levels of relaxation can unlock creativity and spirituality. Pete shares insights from coaching couples in high conflict, reframing relational breakdown not as a matter of blame, but of responsibility. And finally, we address the scientific interface between mind, nervous system, and hormonal system. Proving the fascinating concept of how unprocessed stress, fear, and suppressed emotion can manifest as psychosomatic illness in the body. This episode is a deep inquiry into perception, challenging you to look inward first.JOIN THE SHADOW WORK ACADEMY Work with PeteConnect with Pete on InstagramConnect with Pete on FacebookConnect with Renate on Instagram

#39 Ryan Barraclough: Brotherhood is the medicine
In this episode, I sit down with men’s coach, therapist, and co-founder of the Embodied Man Institute, Ryan Barraclough, for a deep conversation on purpose, rites of passage, psychedelics, leadership in intimate relationships, and why brotherhood may be the missing medicine for modern men.Ryan’s path began in adversity with severe asthma as a child, and later, the suicide of a close friend at 26 that forced him to confront his own mental and emotional health. That rupture led him away from the status quo and into the uncharted territory of men’s work, psychotherapy, and initiation. This is a conversation about reclaiming depth in a flawed culture that rewards performance over purpose - share this episode with someone you think will resonate! #37 Stuart Camps: Natural contemplation and the innate wisdom of animals
This episode with Stuart Camps is the kind of esoteric conversation I love, where there isn't a beginning, middle or end. Stuart grew up in tribal New Guinea, and was committed to rock climbing in his younger years as a process of self understanding and exploration. He moved to California for 25 years to work with animals, where he was introduced to the concept of natural contemplation. He shares his vast experiences with animals: from inspiring horse training stories demonstrating how to relate to animals differently, to fascinating observations of herd dynamics. This episode offers a snapshot of Stuart's book, Lightning, thunder, cows as he shares deeply interesting spiritual concepts, masterfully told through a series of anecdotal tales from the wild.I hope you feel less fear, and more free, after you listen to this episode. Today I welcome the brilliant Psychologist Micha Lerner into the studio to have a comprehensive conversation surrounding psychedelics, psychology, and their place within the human experience. Micha has previously lectured at Bond University, researched psychedelic therapy and held a position as a psychologist at the world's most prestigious and elite private drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre; The Sanctuary, Byron Bay. Micha shares his professional experience working with patients recovering from serious addictions and explains why an individual turns to addiction, overcoming its difficulties, and what he perceives the most effective treatment plan to be. We dive deep into how MDMA and Psychedelic Assisted Therapy affect the brain of an individual experiencing complex trauma and PTSD. Relating to how our current sense of self is derived from our ego and its anthesis that develops from childhood, and how certain drugs can entirely reframe our perception of our own identity, and our reality. The conversation leads us to ancient civilizations and tribes that have experimented and integrated animal and plant substances with psychedelic properties, and how humans have even observed animals with the same curiosity to experience unexplored states of consciousness. We tie the conversation together by reflecting on our place in the modern world and how we must choose to navigate our reality with the tools and knowledge we have on offer. #15 Becoming a father at 62
My guest of honour today is my life partner, my beloved and soon-to-be mother of my child, Rebecca Isaia. When Bec and I met we bonded over neither of us planning on having children, and now 4 years later we are about to embark on the amazing journey of parenthood, with a baby due in 3 months. We discuss our unique circumstances of becoming first-time parents later in life (I'm 62 and Bec is 37), and have vulnerable conversations about parenthood, relationships and marriage, drawing from our partnership, our past relationships, and personal experiences. We share our own reasons for not wanting to be parents, and how we both came to make the conscious decision of bringing a child into the world. I didn't want to repeat harmful cycles mirrored to me by my parents. Similarly, Bec grew up in a toxic household and never wanted to become her mother. On top of this she was told she likely wouldn't be able to have children. Bec shares her health journey navigating hormonal contraception, and how it caused an aftermath of health issues leading her to reject all artificial and unnatural things in her body. She reflects on how she felt unsure of her purpose, and had malcontent towards life without a clear mission, bringing her to heal her feminine mother wound and accept the calling for motherhood. #13 Defining the soul, the psyche and psychedelics
In this week's episode my executive producer, Quinika Davis, is back in the studio to explore psychedelics, our humanity, the mind and existence. What is the soul? What is the shadow? Who are we really? How does it all fit together? What started out as an episode intended to focus on psychedelics alone, evolved into an at times, tense discussion exploring our contradictory viewpoints on spirituality. We review the promises and pitfalls of psychedelic assisted therapy, drawing from personal psychedelic experiences and research based evidence. The distinction between a “bad trip” and a “good trip” is explained, with both phrases recontextualized to challenge the common misconceptions. This is a deeply philosophical episode. Let’s dive in.
