Pitching Yourself To Podcasts - The Right Way, The Lazy Way, And The Wrong Way

I don't know why, but a pitch that I got via email to be on Entrepreneur's Enigma, I get a bunch every day, got my attention.

I'm not going to reveal who it was, but I will say it's normally a pitch that I'd ignore, just because it's from a PR person, not the person wanting to be a guest.

I get it, when you're a big name you don't have time to pitch. But, I can tell you on thing, getting a pitch from the person who wants to be on the show is much better than getting pitched by a PR person.

The ones that are worse are those that say they love the show and want to review it, then pitch slap you.

Ugh.

Making Money On Your Podcast

Chasing quick podcast money? Rethink it. Use your show to build your brand, forge connections, and position yourself as a thought leader. The best ROI often comes from the relationships, not the ads.

If you’re starting a podcast just to cash in, you might be disappointed. Focus on sharing knowledge, starting conversations, and growing your network. The REAL value is in the doors your podcast opens.

Most podcasts won’t land huge ad deals. Instead, treat your show like a long game. Grow your skills, learn from your guests, and turn your audience into opportunities for collaboration and growth.

Don’t expect overnight podcast riches—commit to consistency. The greatest benefits often come from the connections and insights you gain over time, not instant sponsorships or viral hits.

Monetization isn’t just about ads.

Think bigger: your podcast can create new friendships, partnerships, and business ventures. Invest in the process and see the value beyond direct revenue.

“Stop Pitching Like This! with Seth Goldstein" [Feral Festival]
Welcome to Feral, where we keep it raw, real, and just a little dangerous. In this special episode, “Stop Pitching Like This! with Seth Goldstein,” your host Annie teams up with podcasting veteran Seth Goldstein for an unfiltered dive into the art of pitching yourself — and why most people are doing it wrong. Seth has spent over 15 years championing voices in the podcasting world, building his own popular shows and networks, and seeing so many pitches flood his inbox that he now only accepts a tiny 1% of them. Today, he and Annie break down exactly why your pitch probably isn’t working, what makes for a standout introduction, and the biggest mistakes to avoid if you want to actually land that coveted guest spot. Whether you’re an experienced podcaster, an aspiring guest, or just someone trying to get their ideas heard, Seth shares his real talk rules on how to stand out, be genuine, and make connections that count. Plus, you’ll hear anecdotes, pitch pet peeves, and simple strategies for turning missed opportunities into real conversations.
