Sports, Creativity & NIL Rights w/ Jannienne Verse

Today Dan and Josh are joined by Jannienne Verse, a corporate marketing expert and partner of Spotlight Advisory Group. Jannienne provides an informative overview of the new field of NIL (Name, Imagine & Likeness) rights, and why protecting one’s image should be an important consideration for athletes and other creatives, regardless of what stage of their career they are in.    Later, the group discusses the oft-overlooked intersection of creativity and athletics. Far more skills, professions and callings involve a creative element than many people realize, and that includes the extremely physical realm of sports. Together, in a conversation of critical importance for creatives of any stripe, Jannienne, Dan and Josh cover the false dichotomy of “left brain/right brain,” the difference between purpose and vocation, and current issues affecting student athletes.    Do you think athletics can be a creative field? And if so, what would your nomination be for the most creative moment in sports history? Soul Source: Where Your Ideas Come From

In this episode, Dan and Josh tackle the complexities of the creative “soul source,” Spotlight’s term for where your ideas come from. The soul source is the literal source or origin of an individual’s creative impulse and talents, or “where your creativity comes from,” as Dan puts it. Identifying and examining your soul source can be of enormous value to an artist.      The soul source defies easy definition or analysis, operating on an intuitive or spiritual level, but Josh and Dan do their best to delineate it. This wide-ranging conversation touches on the nature of human consciousness, the limits of human language, and why Gandalf the White is Josh’s personal manifestation of creativity.      How would you define your personal soul source? Is it a reborn wizard or a mythological creature? Does it pull you or propel you? The P Word: Why Purpose is at the Center of Everything

In this episode, Dan and Josh tackle the central, titular question of the Purpose of Creativity: what is an artist’s purpose, and how is it discovered? “Purpose” is undeniably a loaded and complex word, but Dan and Josh break down its various connotations and how they might apply to an artist’s craft and career.    Dan details how your unique “life purpose” can provide direction to a creative’s life, bringing a sense of fulfillment to the creative process. Some artists are motivated entirely by the creative process, while others need to communicate with an audience in order to be fulfilled. Still others are goal-oriented, needing a connection greater than just performing for an audience to feel like they’re making their desired impact on the world. Sorting out these interconnected but separate motivations and reflecting on their relative importance can help clarify an individual’s purpose in life.    Josh explains that he is views himself as a “communication artist,” a creative who seeks connection with audiences and other people. Reflecting on and better defining one’s purpose can facilitate communicating with an audience. From there, the conversation moves to a description of the artist’s “soul source,” the unique viewpoint or gift that a creative can share with the world. Finally, Josh bares his own soul source, describing the process of discovering and pursuing his own creative motivations.    What is your purpose? What is your soul source? Are you an expression creative, a communication creative, or an impact creative, and why? The Purpose of Creativity

In this inaugural episode of The Purpose of Creativity, Dan and Josh dive into the reasons they founded Spotlight Advisory Group, and how their new podcast advances their project of helping creatives thrive.    In this discussion, Dan lays out the three foundational elements of creative success: achieving financial security, creating a cultural impact, and crafting a legacy. Defining these personal goals for wealth, fulfillment and success is a vital step for any artist looking to uncover their life’s purpose.     Afterward, Josh discusses the importance of treating creativity as the artist’s greatest asset, one that can help strike the age-old balance between art and commerce. Josh advocates for a new view of the creative industries, one that acknowledges the challenges of ubiquitous, modern-day competition. Josh explains how having a strategy and a long view of the artist’s trajectory can help avoid “creative leakage,” incorporating even failed or stalled out projects into a coherent legacy.    More from Spotlight Advisory Group  Website: spotlightadvisorygroup.com  Instagram: @spotlightadvisors  LinkedIn: Spotlight Advisory Group, Inc.  Facebook: Spotlight Advisory Group  Email: [email protected]       This is a Redd Rock Music Podcast   IG: @reddrockmusic   www.reddrockmusic.com Learn more about your ad choices.
