TKFM Quick Hits #25: "Evolution of Voice Actors in Animation"
One thing that drove me nuts over the years was the removal / replacement of key actors or acting voices in beloved TV shows or series. The infamous replacement of Bo & Luke Duke in The Dukes of Hazard. The genie's voice in Disney's Aladdin direct-to-video versions NOT being Robin Williams. However, there are times when strict adherence to detail and a consideration of the sonic footprint the fans and viewers have come to know and love have really shown that the producers do care about the final product. Kelly and I discuss some examples of this, why as cultural sensitivities evolve it's important to make these adjustments, and how a true fan takes all of this into play when supporting and enjoying a series or content. TKFM Quick Hits #24: "From Archeology to Audio Books: An Accidental Journey"
Chris Douyard has explored varying jobs and disciplines over the time I've known him. One of the most fascinating arcs for him, for me, has been seeing him move through academia and into voiceover work with audio books. Little did I know in interviewing Chris a few months back that this arc is an even LARGER story, with origins for Chris way back in his early 20s. It's funny how we take these journeys in our careers and lives, and interests wax and wane and find us again - if we haven't fully experienced them. Being open and present to these opportunities to learn and grow are key to a fullfilling life - and Chris is an example of finding this path. Join us in this Quick Hits conversation! TKFM Quick Hits #21: "Authenticity Hits Differently!"
In music, in social media content, in life in general, authenticity hits differently... Your audience, whoever that may be, can spot this a mile a way. Are you being you, or are you being you trying to be something else that's not authentic to you? This is a weird space, because we're all vying for attention in the world and often try to twist and turn to accommodate what draws that attention. It's a fine line of experimentation versus inauthentic behavior - and one I'm finding challenging navigating the world of social media and content creation to get my music and my brand into as many eyes and ears as possible. I'm fervently hopeful my efforts are as authentic as possible, and I'm constantly evaluating whether or not they meet those personal expectations. Come join the conversation! TKFM Quick Hits #20: "Lifelong Learning - Don't Crystalize!"
My path with education was not typical... I took breaks in my undergraduate path. Many. It took me 12 years to finish that journey, then I took a year off, then proceeded for 4 years to pursue and obtain my masters degree. Although I don't recommend taking 12 years for your undergrad, immediately following a 4-year degree w/a masters in your 20s is not always the answer, either. Experience plays a key role in hiring and what value you bring to the table in any work you pursue. Chris Rapozo and I discuss this path here, and how lifelong learning is crucial to a life worth living. Join us! TKFM Quick Hits #18: "Distribution Changes and Music Schedules!"

TKFM Quick Hits #17: "Barrier of Entry No More!"
Like it or not, some of this new AI technology is breaking down barriers of entry for independent filmmakers. If done right, some of this tech can really enhance a production and add that Hollywood flare that costs a ton of money to produce. It can also create laziness, inconsistencies, and poor cinematography. It's interesting watching this landscape evolve - and it requires some sensitivities to ensure the viewer gets high-quality output and art. Time will tell how this is integrated into our movies, TV, and online content... TKFM Quick Hits #15:"Arc Raiders - a Master Class in Scoring and Sound Design"
Every once in awhile a game comes along that really pushes novelty and innovation. Arc Raiders is one of those games, and I didn't even LIKE it the first 10 or so hours of gameplay, and almost quit it entirely! TKFM Quick Hits #10: "Let's Talk Email Lists!"
One oft forgotten unsung hero of the internet is the e-mail list. In a world with social media focuses, YouTube, Tweets, blog posts, it's easy to assume that e-mail and e-mail lists are dead. Quite the contrary. E-mail still is a central focus of password resets, basic communication, file and information exchange, and a foundational way to stay in touch with the followers and fans of your brand or business. In this TKFM Quick Hit, Olivia and I discuss just this, and delve into it's continued relevance and viability for anyone building a brand or business online! EP081 "The Journey of a Music Educator: The John Smayda Interview"
Recently, I sat down with John Smayda—my former music teacher and mentor from Plainville High School—and we got into his journey through music education, what shaped his teaching philosophy, and the key moments from his career in and around the music industry. We talked a lot about mentorship and why it matters, plus how music education can leave a lasting impact on students’ lives. We also touched on how the music world is changing fast, especially with AI entering the picture. More than anything, the conversation was a reminder of the joy of creating and performing music—and how passing that spark on to others is so crucial to music creation and education. TKFM Quick Hits #8: "The Power of Creating Space"
Have you ever filled your schedule up so much you don't have a second to breathe? A second to reflect on what you've done and accomplished? Feeling like you need to live up to some expectation or story you've concocted inside your head? Try making space. That's right. Slow down. Take a break. Clock out for the day on something you've been hammering away at. The perspectives that arise from taking that moment to reflect will have you thinking differently on being "busy" and whether that's effective or not. Olivia eloquently discusses her journey with this, and her poignant words and perspective are a great guide and lesson on the value of making space in whatever we do. TKFM Quick Hits #7: "Extraction Shooters - Gaming's Next Big Thing"
In this TKFM Quick Hit, Mike Aransky and I delve into Extractions Shooters and what they mean to the next generation of gamers (and legacy gamers like ourselves!) One of the newest and really intriguing games in this genre is Arc Raiders. So what is it? Arc Raiders is an Extraction Shooter that hits that sweet spot where every run feels like a gamble you chose to take. It’s a third-person extraction shooter, but it doesn’t play like a mindless loot vacuum. You drop into a harsh, half-reclaimed world, scavenge what you can, take fights you think you can win, and then try to get out alive with your pockets full and your pride intact. In Arc Raiders, the tension is the whole point. One minute you’re calmly grabbing materials and hunting for upgrades, and the next you’re hearing something mechanical and enormous moving nearby—and your brain immediately starts doing that math: Do I push deeper for better loot, or do I cut losses and extract right now? Because if you get greedy (and you will), the game will happily remind you what “consequences” means. EP080 "History Goes Bump!"
Diane Student and I had a fun, wide-ranging conversation about how music production and podcasting have evolved—and what it takes now to actually keep an audience engaged. We talked about how video is changing the podcast world fast, and how it’s becoming part of the whole package instead of an optional add-on. From there we went down some fascinating rabbit holes: the cultural pull of the 27 Club, why certain stories stick, and how places like burial grounds and “haunted” locations carry a weird kind of weight. We also got into the paranormal world—not just the spooky side, but the business side too, and how people build real content and experiences around it. We talked shop on editing and pacing, what makes a conversation feel alive, and how to balance entertainment with actual substance. The biggest theme for me was authenticity—telling stories that feel real, staying curious, and being present. EP079 "From Comedy to Chalk: An Artist's Evolution - The CJ Guzan Interview!"
CJ and I got into a real, honest talk about creativity — where it comes from, how you keep it alive, and how it shows up in different forms. We talked about improv and that spontaneous “figure it out together” energy, and how that same mindset carries into music and performing. We also dug into teaching art, especially how different age groups need totally different approaches — and how the real key is trust. If kids don’t feel safe, they won’t take risks, and if they won’t take risks, they won’t grow. We touched on Green Bay too — how the industrial vibe shapes the culture and the kind of art that comes out of a place like that. A big theme was rediscovering the fun. For CJ, chalk art became this way to fall back in love with making stuff again, without overthinking it. We also talked about knowing when to end a project at the right moment — leaving on a high note instead of dragging it until it dies. And underneath all of it was this idea: you’ve gotta keep showing up. Try new things, let your mediums evolve, lean on mentors when you can, and stay okay with the fact that some of the best art is temporary. That impermanence is part of what makes it meaningful. Takeaways Improv comedy allows for spontaneous creativity and collaboration. The importance of knowing when to end a project on a high note. Teaching art requires adapting to different age groups and their needs. Building trust with students is crucial for effective teaching. Art should be fun and not feel like work to foster creativity. The industrial landscape of Green Bay influences local culture and art. Creating a safe space for artistic expression is essential. Gamification can enhance learning and creativity in art education. Personal experiences shape teaching methods and curriculum design. Discipline in showing up is crucial for artistic success. Mentorship plays a vital role in artistic development. Finding perspective can enhance the creative process. Engaging with the audience can enrich the artistic experience. Creativity can be gamified to maintain excitement. Art can be a reflection of life's impermanence. Chapters 00:00 Introduction and Seasonal Reflections 02:57 Improv Comedy and Musical Collaborations 05:42 The Impact of Live Performances 08:25 Nostalgia in Entertainment and Creative Projects 11:13 Teaching Art to Kids: Approaches and Challenges 14:05 The Industrial Landscape of Green Bay 16:56 Curriculum Design for Diverse Age Groups 21:12 Engaging Kids Through Art Games 23:35 The Power of Gesture Drawing 27:27 Student Success Stories 29:18 Rediscovering Passion for Art 32:06 The Challenge of Perfectionism 34:59 Finding Balance in Creativity 37:54 The Importance of Categorization in Art 41:41 Adapting Art Practices for Winter 43:32 The Journey of Artistic Growth 49:13 Exploring New Mediums: Chalk and Charcoal 54:25 The Science of Art: Feedback and Quality 58:03 The Joy of Creation: Engaging with the Process 01:05:08 Impermanence in Art: The Philosophy Behind Creation Keywords improv comedy, performance art, teaching art, creativity, Green Bay, curriculum design, chalk art, artistic growth, music, collaboration, creativity, artistic process, mentorship, impermanence, new experiences, discipline, exploration, genres, chalk art, music production

When it's too much to make full compilations or focus on a specific genre of music, I just sit down and come up with ideas. I call it my "Monday/Friday Ideation." EP077b "Mike Aransky - from Blockbuster to Creative Director" - Part 2
Part 2 of 2! Mike and I dig into his career timeline—starting in the early, scrappy days of new media, learning the ropes by taking opportunities as they came, and leveling up through networking, timing, and pure reps. We talk about what it was like building a career while the internet was changing the rules in real time: shifting audience habits, platform gatekeepers, and the constant pressure to adapt. From content creation and gaming culture to how algorithms shape what gets seen, Mike’s story is basically a case study in staying relevant. The big thread: evolve with the medium, stay authentic, and keep creating even when the landscape keeps moving. Takeaways: Mobile technology has changed how consumers interact with products and services. The gaming landscape is shifting with new genres and formats emerging. The importance of community and engagement in the gaming space is paramount. I got to work on a piece of history at Blockbuster. You never know what one job leads to another job. My career has been about wanting to be creative. YouTube is the hardest thing in the world. Consistency is key in content creation. You need to be authentic to your content. Self-marketing is essential in today's creative landscape. The grind of content creation is a common struggle for creators. Engaging with your audience can lead to valuable relationships. Learning through experience is crucial for growth as a creator. The future of theatrical experiences relies on creating events. Music plays a vital role in enhancing content and storytelling. The economics of movie production are increasingly challenging due to high budgets and revenue expectations. The quality of streaming content is perceived to be declining, affecting viewer engagement. The future of the studio system may focus on reasonable budgets and shared profits. TKFM Quick Hits #3: "On Winnebago Man and Niche Art"
"Winnebago Man" was a very niche documentary about a roughly 4 minute compilation of out-takes from a corporate video promotion gone sideways. Jack Rebney, a seemingly foul-mouthed RV salesman having a rough day, spouts 4 minutes of meme inducing, accidental comic genius, and history was thusly made. The story of Jack was far more interesting than those 4 minutes, though, and the authentic capture of this overarching character arc and story are what made this documentary so great. This is true art, and in this Quick Hit, Tom Seymour and I touch on just how important that niche authenticity is to the art of documentary and art in general. EP076 "Alex Nakarada New Year!"
(This is the most hair I've EVER seen on Alex's head, BTW! LOL!) Happy New Year! Today, Me and Alex Nakarada discuss the challenges of winter, the creative process in music production, and the evolving landscape of the music industry. We focus on the importance of taking breaks, the impact of AI on music, and the significance of health and well-being in sustaining a music career. EP074 "Kevin Macleod - Mentorship, Milestones, and the Road to the Next 1,000 Songs!"
The Journey of Music Production In this episode, I sit down with mentor, inspiration and friend Kevin MacLeod to talk about the real journey of music production — the highs, the milestones, and everything in between, while celebrating my recent win of publishing 1,000 songs. We dive into how the creative process evolves over time, how technology has completely changed the way we make music, and why staying authentic still matters more than ever. Kevin and I discuss experimenting with different genres, chasing new sounds, and the magic that happens when collaboration clicks. There’s something powerful about making music that tells a story — not just to fill space, but to say something. Every project, whether it hits or misses, teaches me something new about who I am as a composer and what I want my music to stand for. I also share a few reflections with Kevin on how the tools have changed — from early VSTs to the advanced setups we have now — and how those changes have opened doors for creativity we couldn’t have imagined twenty years ago. Still, no matter how far technology takes us, the core remains the same: it’s about emotion, connection, and creating something that resonates with people. Music is storytelling. It’s about capturing those moments — joy, pain, growth — and turning them into sound. That’s the journey I'm on as a composer, an artist, and a content creator. 💡 Takeaways Every step in music production is a milestone — celebrate them. Exploring new genres keeps creativity alive. Technology has changed the game, but authenticity is what connects. Collaboration makes the creative process richer and more inspired. Music is storytelling — it brings emotion, texture, and depth to everything we create. Looking back helps shape where we go next. Good advice can redirect an entire career. The creative process is full of trial and error — and that’s how growth happens. 🎤 Sound Bites “You have to become the instrument.” “It’s all about making it better.” 🔑 Keywords music production, creative process, technology in music, authenticity, collaboration, music genres, storytelling, composition, milestones, advice ⏱ Chapters 00:00 – Introduction and Weather Talk 02:43 – Milestones in Music Production 05:24 – Exploring Genres and Creative Process 07:44 – The Evolution of VST Technology 10:32 – Reflections on Musical Growth 13:26 – Future Directions in Music Composition 16:29 – The Joy of Polka Music 17:42 – Filling the Gaps in Music 18:57 – Immersive Music in Gaming 20:52 – The Evolution of Music Creation 22:27 – Creating for Yourself vs. Clients 24:50 – The Challenges of Client-Based Work 26:43 – The Role of Temp Music 28:31 – The Collaborative Nature of Music 29:31 – The Future of the Music Industry 30:22 – Advice for Future Projects

EP073b "Olivia - Part 2"
This is part two of my conversation with Olivia, where we dive deep into the creative process and what it really means to stay authentic as an artist. We talk about how music shapes content creation, the power of collaboration, and the balance between discipline and flow. I also share my thoughts on why taking breaks is essential for keeping creativity alive, and how different art forms influence and inspire one another. We explore the healing power of sound, the evolution of music through technology, and the importance of creating from a place of truth—doing it for yourself first, not for approval. Takeaways Rick Rubin’s philosophy reminds me: create for yourself first. Authenticity is everything—it’s what gives music its soul. Music doesn’t just complement content creation; it transforms it. Collaboration can unlock levels of creativity you can’t reach alone. Discipline isn’t the opposite of creativity—it’s the structure that supports it. Rest and recharge time are part of the creative process, not separate from it. Art forms are interconnected—painting, film, music, writing—all feed each other. Music has the power to heal, both creator and listener. Experimentation keeps the artistic fire alive. The future of music will always be driven by curiosity, connection, and collaboration. Sound Bites “Create for yourself first.” “Experimentation is key in art.” “Music can heal the human being.”
