Russell Latapy on Brian Lara, scrapes with Dwight Yorke and memories of Sir Bobby, Mourinho and AVB

Raised by Sir Bobby Robson and playing as one of the stars in a Trinidad and Tobago team which included a young Dwight Yorke, Russell Latapy was largely unknown when he first arrived in Scottish football in 1998. Over the next decade with Hibernian, Rangers, Dundee United and Falkirk, the little playmaker would prove to be one of the Scottish game’s great entertainers and an inspirational talisman for his clubs. Joining Chris Sutton, Kris Boyd and James McFadden for the latest Big Interview on The Warm-Up, Russell tells the comprehensive story of his life, from his formative years in the Caribbean, to joining Porto under the great Sir Bobby. He talks of his encounters with a young Jose Mourinho and Andres Villas-Boas in Portugal, of his move to Scotland and time playing under some of the game’s great characters, including Yogi Hughes and Dick Advocaat. The interview also covers his friendship, nights out and managerial partnership with Yorke, a possible return to Scotland and includes a carnival invite for Boydy, Sutty and Faddy.  0:00 STARTS 02:20 Football, cricket and where it all began 06:00 Playing the game with Brian Lara 08:25 A Letter from America 10:15 Porto bound 12:05 Meeting Sir Bobby 13:08 The best player I played with 16:15 The Special One 19:00 AVB leaves a note 22:00 Trials with Aston Villa 23:00 Scotland bound 27:30 A love affair with Yogi 28:45 Setting The Record straight 29:50 A move to Celtic? 32:40 Catching the plane home 35:30 I have no problems with Alex 37:50 A phone call to the beach house 40:00 Time for one more 42:10 Aiming for the World Cup 45:10 “Has Terry mellowed?” 48:30 Me and Dwight 52:00 Still going at 40 54:00 An invite to the Carnival 57:30 “He chased Dirk all over the pitch” 58:10 I’d love to manage in Scotland 59:05 What kind of manager would they get? ENDS  🎧 Listen to The Warm-Up wherever you get your podcasts. https://linktr.ee/williamhillspfl   Follow WilliamHillSPFL:  ✖️ Twitter: https://www.x.com/WilliamHillSPFL  📷 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/williamhillspfl  📘 Facebook: http://facebook.com/williamhillspfl  18+ please gamble responsibly. #Celtic #Rangers #OldFirm #SPFL #SPFLhighlights #ScottishFootball #CelticFC #ScottishPremiership #RangersFC #Hearts #FalkirkFC #DundeeUtd #ScottishCup #Hibernian #Hibs #HeartofMidlothian #Stenhousemmuir #CelticFC #TrinidadandTobago #DwightYorke #BrianLara #cricket #ManchesterUnited  Proper Supporter of the @SPFL   Watch The Warm-Up on YouTube 18+ | Find out how to limit gambling ads on social media -http://wh.bet/Ads

Schmeichel SNUB for Old Firm rematch, Falkirk for the cup and Faddy foils a pile-on | The Warm-Up

The Old Firm prepare to dance again this weekend – this time in the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup. On a Warm-Up cup special, regular hosts Chris Sutton and Kris Boyd are joined by James McFadden to look ahead to the weekend’s ties. For the second week running, Ibrox again provides the venue for the Glasgow derby and, as the team explain, this is turning out to be a bigger game for Rangers manager Danny Rohl than it is for opposite number Martin O’Neill. The team also discuss Celtic’s selection issues, who starts in goal and exactly how they will line up as their manager tries to figure out the reason behind their slow starts and late rallies. Looking at the other ties, Faddy foils a pile-on as Chris and Kris take aim at an under-performing St Mirren team. They ask if the Buddies have taken their foot off the gas following their League Cup win, threatening a remarkable double. The team also smell an upset at East End Park, where Dunfermline face Aberdeen, discuss Falkirk v Dundee United, and give their match predictions. 0:00 STARTS 00:54 This is a bigger game for Danny Rohl 02:19 ‘That’s just not good enough for Rangers’ 06:45 The one thing Martin O’Neill won’t do again 09:33 The dramatic decline of a Celtic talisman 10:27 Celtic’s goalkeeping conundrum 13:35 Falkirk can win this cup 15:19 ‘He’ll go from University to the Scotland team’ 18:50 Can St Mirren do it again? 20:14 “This isn’t a social media pile-on" 21:18 Quarter final predictions ENDS 🎧 Listen to The Warm-Up wherever you get your podcasts. https://linktr.ee/williamhillspfl    Follow WilliamHillSPFL:  ✖️ Twitter: https://www.x.com/WilliamHillSPFL  📷 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/williamhillspfl  📘 Facebook: http://facebook.com/williamhillspfl  18+ please gamble responsibly. #Celtic #Rangers #OldFirm #SPFL #SPFLhighlights #ScottishFootball #CelticFC #ScottishPremiership #RangersFC #Hearts #FalkirkFC #DundeeUtd #ScottishCup #DunfermlineAthletic #MotherwellFC #Hearts #HeartofMidlothian #AberdeenFC #PartickThistle #CelticFC #StMirren  Watch The Warm-Up on YouTube 18+ | Find out how to limit gambling ads on social media -http://wh.bet/Ads

Playing Agony Uncle and Mrs Sutton, Special Agent | The Warm-Up

It’s been over a month since St Mirren celebrated League Cup glory. Title can be lost not won this weekend | The Warm-Up

As Celtic and Hearts prepare for their top of the table clash at Tynecastle, The Warm-Up assembles for a special edition examining one of the tightest title races in recent memory. For this special show, Paul Hartley and Barrie McKay make their Warm-Up debuts alongside Charlie Adam, looking ahead to this weekend’s game and reflecting on their own experience of title run-ins. Paul can speak from both painful and happy memory, having come tantalisingly close to title glory with Hearts before going on to win it with Celtic under Gordon Strachan. Having made over a century of appearances for both Hearts and Rangers, Barrie offers insight into how this current Jambos’ side is handling the pressure, identifying one significant test which has already been passed with flying colours. Charlie Adam also looks to Ibrox, where a player he worked with at Everton is showing signs of growing into the role of Rangers number 9. Charlie and the team also look at the transfer window, which they believe could decide the title race, at business done and deals still to be made. Who do you think will lift the William Hill Premiership trophy this season? Kris Boyd and Steven Naismith are joined by Rangers and England legend Terry Butcher for The Warm-Up's latest big interview. Captain for club and country, Butcher goes back to his early days with Bobby Robson at Ipswich and charts the path that led him to Ibrox, where he became a key figure in the club’s nine-in-a-row run. He reveals how his career could have taken him to Old Trafford and talks about the culture shock that awaited him in Glasgow. He also explains how an early encounter with the late Davie Cooper convinced him to move north. Butcher’s time in Scotland was certainly eventful as he became a trusted leader under Graeme Souness, won three league titles and two league cups and established Rangers as a dominant force in Scotland and Europe. In the interview, he also reflects on his experiences with England, which included World Cups, bloodstained bandages and a now notorious encounter with Diego Maradona. And, on the subject of lingering resentment, he talks about Old Firm arrests, criminal records and why he still has beef with Frank McAvennie. Looking to the most recent chapters of his career the interview also covers his time as a manager, which saw him enjoy success with Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Motherwell, spells with Partick Thistle and Hibernian and as Scotland assistant. 00:00 STARTS 02:15 “I didn’t think I was good enough” 03:58 “I don't know why we have signed you, you’re useless” 06:09 Sir Bobby Robson 07:43 “Bobby made you feel 10 feet tall” 14:00 Striving for perfection 15:35 The move to Rangers 17:00 Overtures in Mexico 18:15 Man United wanted me 20:00 Davie Cooper was a breath of fresh air 21:30 I underestimated Rangers 23:00 “Show the crowd you’re ready” 26:00 “You should see the tattoos on the women” 27:30 Team talks with Graeme Souness and Walter Smith 30:05 Breaking a leg 33:20 You’re under arrest 37:35 I’ll never forgive Maradona 42:15 Meeting Diego – again 45:08 Italia 90 48:25 Managerial ambitions 52:11 Managerial realities 52:33 Getting the sack 54:09 Back home to Scotland 58:53 Joining the Tartan Army 01:04:21 Boozegate 01:07:55 A return to management? 🎧 Listen to The Warm-Up wherever you get your podcasts. https://linktr.ee/williamhillspfl   Follow WilliamHillSPFL:  ✖️ Twitter: https://www.x.com/WilliamHillSPFL  📷 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/williamhillspfl  📘 Facebook: http://facebook.com/williamhillspfl 18+ please gamble responsibly. Proper Supporter of the @SPFL  Watch The Warm-Up on YouTube 18+ | Find out how to limit gambling ads on social media - http://wh.bet/Ads
