Savannah’s entertainment scene is about to get a little wilder—and a lot funnier. On January 22nd at 8:00 p.m., the curtains at Victory North will rise for the return of "Standup Stripdown," a high-energy production that successfully bridges the gap between classic stand-up comedy and the art of comedic burlesque. The Y Bar Savannah is gearing up for a vibrant celebration of culture and artistry at its upcoming Black Artist Showcase on February 23 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. This free event aims to highlight the contributions of local artists, singers, dancers, and vendors, creating a space for community engagement and cultural appreciation.In a heartfelt conversation, singer and performer Dana Fisher, a musician and e-board member of The Karaoke Krew, opened up about her upcoming participation in the showcase.  Fisher revealed that she first connected with Bowers a few year ago when they were working the Savannah Music Festival.​“I was excited to be asked to showcase my music and my story,” she said. “This event is a chance to honor Black history and share my artistry with a new audience.” ​Speaking about the significance of the showcase, Fisher expressed her commitment to representing Black history through her music. “I believe I’m a part of Black history, and this is an opportunity to expose more people to my work and my experiences,” she said.

On this episode of Things Around Town with Kareem we are talking with American Idol winner Candice Glover about SCAD's BAM! Black Artist In Music Celebration.Glover’s journey from a small-town girl to a music industry sensation is a testament to her resilience and passion. “Coming off American Idol and being from the small-town St. Helena Island, SC, I was whisked away into Hollywood without knowing much about the music industry,” she recalls. “I just knew I wanted to be a singer.” This initial leap into the spotlight introduced her to a world filled with talented individuals who shaped her understanding of performance and entertainment.With each performance, Glover has embraced her role not only as an artist but also as a mentor, particularly during her time at SCAD. “Bringing that experience to BAM and working with the students has been incredibly rewarding,” she says. Her commitment to nurturing emerging talent shines through as she prepares to guide the university's elite performance ensemble, The Bee Sharps.
