Creativity, Mental Health, & Building Community with Anthony Elio of Locals Aloud Denverse Podcast
The stars aligned for my conversation with host of the Locals Aloud Denverse Podcast, Anthony Elio. We talked about everything from personal growth as someone who lives an unconventional life, to staying creatively ‘unlocked’, to that time I was attacked by an owl (true story), and we both shared a lot personally about our journeys with mental health and strategies for living a full life. Anthony is such a great podcast host that I had to make sure I was the one asking questions and not the other way around haha.Truly this is a heartfelt and fun conversation and a perfect example of what I love about the podcasting space in general. For me, I fell in love with podcasts because I loved hearing two people have real genuine conversations over scripted shows. I would put these kinds of podcasts on while I clean, or cook, or get ready to go somewhere…like having friends sharing the thoughts that we all have about this human experience. Sometimes offering new insights, perspectives, and ideas for your own path.I hope you enjoy this unfiltered, genuine conversation and I hope you check outAnthony’s podcast ‘Local’s Aloud’ as well: https://open.spotify.com/show/6gjiyT3d5e9QL9ISjosfSE?si=c998e3bee3fc43faFrom my heart to yours,GretaJoin me on Substack for the full details of this episode: https://substack.com/@thoughtexperimentcalledlife👉Get 20% Off and help your cells age brilliantly with liposomal NAD+ (and more) with Sunny Within (get the Strawberry Lime flavor…it’s much better than the Watermelon!!)Use my code: THOUGHTEXPERIMENThttps://sunnywithin.com/THOUGHTEXPERIMENT Hosted on Acast. How to Connect With Your Muse (Without Forcing It) The Secret to Flow State & Consistent Creativity
I have spent my life as a creative and around creatives as well. In my recent conversation with the president and one of the founders of the Outdoor Museum of Art in Denver, Cynthia Madden Leitner, we talked a little bit about connecting with our muse as a creative. I share a little about how I connect with my muse and my creative spirit, and I wanted to share that in a little more depth today for anyone who may find it useful.I’ve seen brilliant creatives completely paralyzed by their own potential for genius up close many times in my life. These experiences challenged me to find ways to have a healthy “muse connection practice,” if you will, in my own endeavors. And here is what I have learned…please take what resonates.Join me on Substack for the full details of this episode: https://substack.com/@thoughtexperimentcalledlife👉Get 20% Off and help your cells age brilliantly with liposomal NAD+ (and more) with Sunny Within (get the Strawberry Lime flavor…it’s much better than the Watermelon!!)Use my code: THOUGHTEXPERIMENThttps://sunnywithin.com/THOUGHTEXPERIMENT Hosted on Acast. This Filmmaker Didn't Wait for Permission to Build Community and a Dream
Filmmaker and father of 3 girls, David Chavez is a shining example of what it looks like when you choose yourself instead of waiting for someone else to choose you or create your path. Born and raised in NYC, filmmaking called to him at an early age but after working on the set of Iron Man 2 and Bad Boys 3, he knew that he wanted to create something of his own instead of following in the conventional paths.Cut to present day, Chavez, has created some truly special waves in Colorado as a filmmaker. He is the co-founder of both Maxxed Out Films and the 72 Hour Kickass Film Fest, bringing filmmakers all across Colorado together, creating opportunities for creation and growth on their own terms. This year there were over 40 short films submitted to the 72 Hour Kickass Film Fest, which when you realize that each film team has 10+ people involved, says a lot about the growing film community in Colorado.I met Chavez a few months ago when I was asked to do the score for one of the films for Kickass, 2012. I am super honored to also have been nominated for my film score work…the awards show is on May 3rd…I’ll keep you posted. This conversation is special for so many reasons and I cannot wait for you to extract the gems and takeaways from our conversation. If you know someone whom you think may find this conversation inspiring, please share this with them. Also, if you want to watch Chavez’s Bond Film Promo that we talk about, go here.Join me on Substack for the full details of this episode: https://substack.com/@thoughtexperimentcalledlife👉Get 20% Off and help your cells age brilliantly with liposomal NAD+ (and more) with Sunny Within (get the Strawberry Lime flavor…it’s much better than the Watermelon!!)Use my code: THOUGHTEXPERIMENThttps://sunnywithin.com/THOUGHTEXPERIMENT Hosted on Acast. I’m so excited to share this beautiful conversation with Cynthia Madden Leitner, President and Founding Executive Director of the Museum of Outdoor Arts in Denver.Cynthia co-founded MOA in 1981 with her parents, John W. Neuro-Somatic Yoga: A Paradigm Shifting Conversation on Healing Chronic Pain with Diana May
For so many people living with chronic pain, the options can feel few and far between. I know what it’s like to feel like there’s no real quality of life when pain is just… always there. It took me years to find things that actually helped, and to rebuild trust with my body that there were other options beyond just managing symptoms. That’s what drew me to Diana May’s work in Neuro Somatic Yoga. One of those rare moments where the algorithm actually gets it right. Her work looks a little unconventional at first, but it immediately resonated with me. I started trying some of her exercises and noticed real shifts in my own tension and pain.I was so excited to have her on the podcast to go deeper into how this work supports the nervous system and chronic pain. I’ll let her share more, but I highly recommend checking out her work if this resonates with you.Sending you all my love... How One Woman Is Turning Rest Into a Revolution for Women
I sat down with La-Doniea, founder of Breakthru, who is creating spaces for women to slow down, be present, and actually rest…not as something we earn, but as something we require as a human be-ing (and not a human do-ing).We talk about what it means to choose yourself, especially as women and caretakers who are so used to pouring into everyone else first. La-Doniea shares how her experiences, her family, and her Jamaican roots inspired her to create retreats, community events, and intentional spaces where women can unplug, be taken care of, and just exist for a moment. This one is a gentle but powerful reminder that rest isn’t lazy…it’s necessary. And sometimes the most healing thing we can do is nothing at all.If you’ve been feeling stretched thin or constantly “on,” I think this conversation will gift you a little lift and maybe the inspiration for a little more rest too.Connect with La-Doneia on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/brakethru.coAnd on her website: https://www.la-doniea.com/retreats-and-renewalJoin me on Substack for the full details of this episode: https://substack.com/@thoughtexperimentcalledlifeSPONSOR: Help your cells age brilliantly with liposomal NAD+ (and more) with Sunny Within - Get 20% Off with code: THOUGHTEXPERIMENThttps://sunnywithin.com/THOUGHTEXPERIMENT Hosted on Acast. Motherhood, Entrepreneurship, and Building a Joyful Business - First Generation Entrepreneur Story
I’ve been really looking forward to sharing this conversation with Kay from Blush and Reverie. What started as a simple interview at a community event turned into one of the most unexpectedly beautiful and profound conversations I’ve had in a while.Kay and her sister run a custom photo booth and event décor business called Blush and Reverie, where they help people capture joyful moments at weddings, celebrations, and gatherings. As someone who is admittedly a bit of a photo hoarder myself (please don’t check my phone storage), I completely understand the value of capturing those memories. I love that their business is centered around helping people pause, celebrate, and hold on to moments that matter. In this conversation we talk about what it really takes to start a business and follow a path that doesn’t always come with a blueprint. Kay shares the story behind starting her company, including how the loss of her mother two years ago became one of the biggest inspirations for her and her sister to step into entrepreneurship. What follows is a deeply human conversation about grief, courage, family, and trusting the calling in your heart. We also talk about the mental resilience it takes to build something of your own, navigating uncertainty, and redefining what success really means.Toward the end of the conversation Kay flips the script and asks me a few questions about my own experience running businesses. I share some of the most practical advice I’ve learned over the years…including one financial tip I wish I had known much earlier. If you’re someone who has ever felt the pull to create something of your own, this conversation will resonate with you.Connect with Kay & Blush and ReverieInstagram: @blushandreverieeventsListen to more episodes of Thought Experiment Called Life where we explore creativity, resilience, entrepreneurship, and what it means to follow your calling.Join me on Substack for the full details of this episode: https://substack.com/@thoughtexperimentcalledlifeSPONSOR: Help your cells age brilliantly with liposomal NAD+ (and more) with Sunny Within - Get 20% Off with code: THOUGHTEXPERIMENThttps://sunnywithin.com/THOUGHTEXPERIMENT Hosted on Acast. The Practical Magic of Creative Business: From Vision to Reality with Sophie Miller of Wild Iris Collective
The Practical Magic of Creative Business: From Vision to Reality with Sophie Miller of Wild Iris CollectiveThis week I’m sharing the first two conversations I recorded live at the Love In Focus event at BlendCo in Denver, hosted by the wonderful Katie Puc.In a time when it feels like our nervous systems are constantly being thrown into chaos, I’m feeling called to tend to what’s right in front of us. The rooms we sit in...the communities we can actually touch...the hearts we can hold right in front of us. I went in expecting quick five-minute chats. Instead, I spoke with four humans and each conversation opened like a hidden door. We went super deep, quickly and beautifully. In this episode, you’ll hear from Sophie, founder of Wild Iris Collective, a luxury floral and workshop experience rooted in sustainability, courage, and trusting your gut. This conversation explores the journey of creativity and collaboration in the context of floral design and sustainability. The speaker shares insights on how personal experiences, such as the impact of COVID-19, led to a passion for plants and a career in floral design. The discussion emphasizes the importance of balancing creative vision with practical planning, trusting one's instincts in decision-making, and the value of community and collaboration among creatives. Additionally, the conversation touches on the healing properties of plants and the significance of embracing failure as a stepping stone to success. The other conversations will follow as bonus episodes.Connect with Sophie at @wild.iris.collective on InstagramJoin me on Substack: https://substack.com/@thoughtexperimentcalledlife Hosted on Acast. Bonus Episode: The 3.5% and the Power of Staying Human
This week’s episode is a short bonus and a bit of a love note.I’m sharing a glimpse into my Nine Lives Longevity Training, an active recovery practice I use to keep training jiu jitsu and MMA at 43 after years of living with Lyme disease. It blends mobility, strength, stretching, breathwork, and nervous system support, with some herbal and nutritional tools at the end. This first class is available now on my Substack, and I’ll be releasing more as it feels aligned.I also reflect on something that’s been giving me hope lately. While listening to Tara Brach, I was reminded of research showing that when just 3.5% of people commit to sustained, nonviolent action, meaningful change becomes almost impossible to stop.In a noisy, overwhelming time, this episode is a reminder that our power lives in how we show up, stay grounded, and care for one another.Thank you for being here, and thank you for being part of the 3.5%.Connect with me on Substack for videos, guides, and resources on mindset, BJJ, music, herbalism & much more:https://substack.com/@thoughtexperimentcalledlifeIG: @thought_experiment_called_life / @altarviolet TikTok: @thoughtexperimentcalled / @altarvioletmusic Hosted on Acast. Becoming Stubbornly Joyful: A Pep Talk on Joy, Resilience, and Emotional Strength
“Joy feels like a wink from the universe that says, ‘You’re on the right path.’”I don’t know about you, but I wrestle with feeling my joy when I know others in the world are living lives that are anything but joyful. I reflect on this often and recently spent an entire therapy appointment delving into this topic. When I got down the heart of the matter I realized I was feeling that the louder the bad news…whether it’s global or local…the louder my commitment grows to being stubbornly joyful…even when it’s uncomfortable.Ultimately, I always come back to this truth: joy doesn’t exist if we don’t have it in our lives. And keeping joy alive within ourselves keeps it alive for others.“Your joy lifts others. It’s not selfish…it’s essential.”When we sit in our joy, we become light bearers for those who may have lost hope. Our joy is proof that life is real and worth living for. This doesn’t mean we stop advocating for others or paying attention to the world…it means we allow ourselves to fully experience joy alongside our work.In this short, little boop of an episode, I discuss:How to soak up your joyWays to increase it in everyday lifeWhy keeping it alive is the greatest hope for a brighter future“Joy is a sacred energy…it gives life meaning and it transcends the highs and lows.”I hope this message finds you with joy in your heart. I’d love to hear what’s bringing you joy right now—whether it’s big, small, or even seemingly mundane moments. From my heart to yours,GretaFor Mini Meditations please visit my sister, Dr. Hotmer’s, YouTube channel. Bonus Episode: The Two Supplements I Never Go Without (Especially in Winter)
Hello friends!First thing, a little announcement: I’ve decided not to continue with a tier-based membership at this time. When I have more capacity…when I can create courses, custom offerings or deep-dives…we’ll see what resonates and I may offer something special. But for now, all my podcast content and everything else I will share on here is free for everyone. Your presence here is more important than anything else. Donations to support the podcast, interviews and ongoing growth are gratefully accepted, but most of all I welcome you, your attention, your sharing, your community.Today I’m sharing a little bonus episode that is incredibly important for me and I hope it serves you and your loved ones. It’s simple. It’s natural. It works. I include links below to the brands I discuss and, as always, this is not medical advice…please check with your trusted healthcare provider before starting any new regimen. Most of you know my background in herbalism and how much I believe nature provides for us. This episode is one of my biggest take-aways. As we move into the colder months here (in the northern hemisphere), we’re more vulnerable to bugs, viruses, low-grade infections and the drain they bring. I want you to have these things in your house, ready, just in case. What I’m recommending (please consult your healthcare practitioner before starting anything new)From the onset of symptoms (or if you feel something coming on, like a sneeze or scratchy throat): 2-3 capsules of oil of oregano, 2-3 times a day, from the moment you sense something until symptoms subside (typically ~3-7 days).I love the Gaia brand the most because of its quality and potency. I don’t make money from these recommendations…just telling you what I use for myself and my loved ones that seems to work the best. N‑Acetylcysteine (NAC) 600 mg/day for maintenance (daily use is healthy). If you’re sick or actively fighting something: 600 mg 2-3 times/day, paired with the oil of oregano, is very effective (from what I’ve seen).I have used a number of brands for NAC, currently I am using Mary Ruth’s which I like a lot. What the science saysA 2017 review published in Molecules found that the key compounds in oregano oil — like carvacrol and thymol — can help fight off viruses, bacteria, and even fungi. These natural plant compounds also have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, which may help your body defend itself and recover faster when you’re fighting a cold or flu.NAC is a precursor to glutathione (our “master antioxidant”), supports immune & detox pathways, helps reduce oxidative stress & inflammation. One clinical study found NAC supported the airway cells to fight off a respiratory virus + reduced the inflammation and oxidative stress that typically make a cold or flu feel worse. For example: in one review, NAC “may strengthen immune defence by increasing the glutathione pool in leukocytes, thus decreasing infections.” And for oil of oregano: a 2020 review found it inhibited certain human and animal viruses in test-tube studies, including respiratory-type viruses. Oregano oil has natural compounds that can block viruses from getting into your cells, including flu and some coronavirus types. A few notes & caveatsThese are tools, not guarantees. They support your body, they don’t replace rest, hydration, good sleep, stress-management. In fact: your first line of defence is sleep + hydration + lowering stress (I know…easier said than done).Oil of oregano: I don’t take it all the time (because like an antibiotic, you don’t want heavy use non-stop). But I do always have it in the house, and at the first sign of a bug I’ll implement it.NAC: For many of us daily use is okay (600 mg/day). But when fighting something: bump to 600 mg 2-3 times/day, paired with the oil of oregano while symptoms are active.Pregnancy/children/special conditions: Always check with your practitioner. For example NAC appears safe in pregnancy in some data but oil of oregano may not be appropriate in all cases.Always remember: the nutrients and herbs support your body because your body is doing the work. If your foundations (sleep, food, movement) are weak, the tools help less.Other Supplements I MentionedThe Prana House’s “Be Well” Elderberry syrup. It’s great for kiddos, safe during pregnancy, and delicious. Plus you can make it at home as well and although I’m partial to Jacque’s special recipe, you can get elderberry syrup almost anywhere now.A good multivitamin: I like Smarty Pants, Mary Ruths, Thorne is a gold standard…basically just make sure to look for GMP verification and personally I only take multivitamins that have methylated B12 and Folate…more on that for another episode. Why I’m doing thisBecause you matter. Because I hate watching good people stay sick, drag through the days, lose weeks. You train, you work, you live life hard. It’s not fair to be knocked off your game by something avoidable. I speak from experience (many years in living with a chronic autoimmune disease, many years as an herbalist, many relationships with people in training, jiu-jitsu gyms, etc). This protocol has been a “secret weapon” in my house. I want you to have it too.If you love this bonus episode, please:Share with someone you love (a friend, a training partner, a family member)Leave a comment, subscribe, hit the bell (on YouTube)If you’re so inclined, a donation helps keep the podcast going and growingAnd if you’re curious about diving deeper into herbs, nutrients, immune resilience for training life, let me know. As I expand content I may create a course or special offering, and I want to make sure it reflects what you want.Thank you for being here. Thank you for showing up for yourself. I hope you feel stronger, more resilient, and ready for whatever this winter brings.Take a deep breath. Get your sleep. And let’s support the body so it can do its thing.Stay healthy and have fun this winter,GretaConnect with me on Substack for more in depth conversations. Hosted on Acast. How I Healed Toxic Relationship Patterns and Built Secure Love (You Can Too)
Hi friends,This is my first solo episode in a minute, and I wanted to share some things that have been on my heart when it comes to love and relationships. My whole adult life, I found myself in very toxic cycles when it came to relationships. I adored red flags. I chose everyone else over myself. I believed that love required (very) hard work and that tears were normal. Loneliness was normal. I was too this or too that. I thought I knew what love was… until I realized I had a really messed up version of love in my head and in my heart. But the beautiful thing about self-awareness and growth is that cycles can be broken. You can learn a new way of living. You can transcend your own patterns and find yourself in a new, beautiful place. That is the hard work that I am here for.I am by no means a relationship counselor or expert, but I love love, have spent many years learning and unlearning, and simply want to pass along a few things that changed everything for me this time around. This episode is incredibly vulnerable to share, but as per usual, I think someone listening might hear exactly what they need…the breadcrumb of insight that will take them to the next step on their journey. So, I’m laying it all out on the table, in the name of love.I’ve included links to all the resources I talk about, and please share anything you love if you feel guided. I would also love to interview a relationship expert…if anyone has someone they love, please let me know, and I’ll see if I can get them on.Here’s to love. Here’s to breaking painful cycles. Here’s to continuing to step into your truest self. From my heart to yours,GretaResources I mention in this episode: Attached: The New Science of Adult Attachment and How It Can Help You Find – and Keep – Love by Amir Levine & Rachel Heller https://www.audible.com/ep/mytitle?asin=0593171667&language=en_US&source_code=GO1PP30DTRIAL54702202491G8&ds_cid=21383977191&ds_agid=175570810508&ds_kids=301585783383&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21383977191&gclid=Cj0KCQjwsPzHBhDCARIsALlWNG1WzJR5kT-iFR__MXgq8isW7XTymxGteFyDS9eA0JtjEy8PFDxK_SIaAkBREALw_wcB @lisaaromano1 Lisa A. Staying Grounded and Connected in Your Vision for Life
New Conversation with Greta Hotmer & Jacque Maldonado of The Prana HouseI’m beyond excited to bring you this week’s podcast episode with my dear friend and spirit sister, Jacque Maldonado. For over a decade, Jacque and I have been walking parallel paths, weaving in and out of each other’s lives as we both follow the visions of our hearts.I first met Jacque when she opened her apothecary and spiritual wellness center, The Prana House, and I was just finishing my master’s in herbalism. That shop…truly the most magical shop I’ve ever known…became my home for a few years, where I practiced herbalism, learned what community can feel like (especially with women), and discovered the deep joy of helping others find healing through plant medicine. In this episode, Jacque and I talk about what it means to find our center again when we feel disconnected, how spiritual practices keep us grounded in our visions, and what it takes to live an unconventional, heart-led life in today’s world.Jacque embodies a beautiful balance of grounded wisdom and radiant magic. She’s an inspiration not only for the way she has forged her path, but for the community she continues to create around The Prana House. This conversation is just the beginning, and I can’t wait for you to listen. If you’re in the PA/DE area, please visit The Prana House…and better yet, join one of her workshops. I promise your spirit will be bolstered.💌 After you listen, I’d love to hear what resonates with you. Why I Stopped Matching Energy (And What I Do Instead)
Welcome to Thought Experiment Called Life — a podcast for the curious, the multi-passionate, and the creatively courageous. I’m Greta, and in this episode, I’m diving deep into a mindset shift that changed everything for me:👉 Why I stopped “matching energy” and started transforming it instead. As someone who's navigated chronic illness (hi, Lyme disease), burnout, and big emotional energy, I used to feel like I had to protect myself constantly. Crystal shields, white light bubbles, avoiding people with “bad vibes”… been there. But then something clicked. And in this episode, I’m sharing the story, tools, and mindset that helped me transmute energy instead of hide from it. It’s not about toxic positivity — it’s about learning to stand strong in your own light without letting someone else’s energy knock you off balance.🎧 In this episode:- What chronic illness taught me about energetic boundaries- Why you don’t have to match chaos with chaos- Breath of Fire & visual tools for setting your energetic tone: https://youtu.be/SQS4Ad-16vE?si=zehCIdfM2klqKqdD- How to shift the vibe of a room just by being yourself- Ways to prep mentally for family gatherings, social situations, or tough environmentsWhether you're navigating health challenges, family dynamics, or just trying to hold your center in a chaotic world...this one’s for you. It's a love note for sensitives, deep feelers, empaths, and anyone who’s tired of wasting precious energy trying to "match" what doesn't serve them.I hope you enjoy and please share with anyone you think may benefit. From my heart to yours,Greta🎧 Available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts & wherever you listen.IG: @thought_experiment_called_life / @altarvioletTikTok: @thoughtexperimentcalled / @altarvioletmusicNEW SPONSOR (My shirt in this episode is a Bohead design): In a world of copy-paste fashion, stand out with original designs from Bohead — art inspired by nature, surf, skate, and tattoo culture. What I’d Share with My Younger Self—and Anyone Who Needs It
Hi friends—With another trip around the sun complete, I thought it’d be the perfect time to reflect on some of the things I’ve learned over the past four decades—lessons I’d pass along to my younger self, and reminders I still lean on today.Growth doesn’t always arrive gently—but even through the messiest moments, there’s meaning to be found. Over time, I’ve collected a handful of reminders that help me stay centered, and I’m sharing them here in case they’re helpful for you too. This episode is a collection of those takeaways—shared with the hope that something in here lands with you, helps you see something differently, or reminds you that you’re not alone. And if you feel inspired, I’d love to hear what you’ve learned on your journey too. Turning Envy Into Fuel: How to Transform Comparison Into Self-Worth
Hi, I’m Greta, and this is my podcast, Thought Experiment Called Life.I created this space as a little love note to anyone who might stumble across it. It’s not neatly niched, and that’s intentional — because I’m not either. I’m endlessly curious and multi-passionate, and if you are too, welcome. You're in good company. You’ll find episodes on mindset, personal development, self-defense and jiu jitsu, herbalism, nutrition, and healing from Lyme disease — which I’ve had for over 20 years. Thankfully, I'm in good health now thanks to herbs, nutrition, and what I’d call lifestyle medicine... or just really solid self-care. I even got my master's in it, mostly so I could pass what I’ve learned along to others.Today’s thought experiment is about something that shaped me in a big way: envy — and how I learned to flip it into something useful.Growing up, I was really shy. Like, really shy. I didn't feel pretty enough, cool enough, smart enough — just not enough. I compared myself constantly. Friends, peers, my sister — everyone. And it always left me feeling less-than, disconnected, or invisible. But somewhere in my late teens, I realized… this constant comparison wasn’t helping. It wasn’t fueling me — it was draining me. So I started to shift it. Instead of letting jealousy sit and fester, I tried turning it into inspiration. If someone was doing something I admired, something I wished I could do, I started saying yes to things that scared me — in small, honest ways. Whether it was speaking up, signing up, or simply showing up — I tried. I built trust with myself one ‘yes’ at a time.Over time, I realized something really powerful: when someone sparks envy in you, it's often because they’re reflecting back something you’re meant to explore. They're showing you what’s possible for you.The ladies at @tobemagnetic have a word for this: expanders. People who expand your view of what’s possible just by being who they are. I didn’t know that word back then, but I was already using the concept.Instead of sitting on the sidelines watching and wishing, I started living more. Doing more. Trying things. Building a life I was proud of. And when I did that, the envy kind of dissolved — because now I was doing the thing. I was becoming the kind of person I used to admire. So if you’re feeling stuck in comparison, or watching someone else live a life you wish you could... maybe this is your invitation. Instead of asking, “Why them?” — try asking, “What is this showing me about what I want?” And then go try it.Whatever is meant for you won’t miss you. But that doesn’t mean you can’t meet it halfway.Let’s be expanders for each other. Let’s inspire instead of compare. It’s a much more joyful way to live — and it adds so much richness to life. And if this little thought experiment resonates with you, it would mean the world if you’d subscribe, like, share, or leave a comment. Every little bit helps this project grow. Thanks for listening. I’ll see you on the next one. From my heart to yours.Greta🎧 Available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts & wherever you listen.IG: @thought_experiment_called_life / @altarvioletTikTok: @thoughtexperimentcalled / @altarvioletmusicNEW SPONSOR: In a world of copy-paste fashion, stand out with original designs from Bohead — art inspired by nature, surf, skate, and tattoo culture. Protect Yourself: What Every Woman Needs to Know
This week, I’m diving into a topic that’s incredibly close to my heart: self defense and self protection, especially for women and those at a disadvantage.I’ve been training in martial arts since I was 15—I'm a brown belt in jiu jitsu and hold black belts in both krav maga and tae kwon do—but this episode isn’t about fighting. It’s about the part of self defense that matters most: paying attention.I’m talking about what security expert Gavin DeBecker calls “pre-incident indicators”—those gut feelings, subtle shifts in someone’s behavior, tone, or body language that often happen before anything bad occurs. The truth is, these warning signs are easy to overlook, but they might be the only warning you get. This episode is about trusting your intuition, reading your environment, and knowing that your awareness is your first and most powerful line of defense. Please share this with the women in your life—and with anyone who might benefit. And if you’ve never read The Gift of Fear by Gavin DeBecker, I can’t recommend it enough. Why "Tuning In" Isn’t Just Woo—It’s Physics (Sympathetic Resonance)
Hi, I’m Greta—and welcome to Thought Experiment Called Life, a cozy corner of the internet for the misfits, the multi-passionate, the creatives, and the beautifully unconventional. If you've never quite felt like you belonged, you're in good company here.In today’s mini episode, we explore the idea of frequency—not just as a musical or scientific concept, but as a metaphor for how we live, what we attract, and who we are becoming. Inspired by something called sympathetic resonance (when two instruments vibrate in harmony without touching), we ask:🎵 What note are you playing in your life?🎵 Are you resonating with what you really want? Here's a real life example of the phenomenon of 'sympathetic resonance': https://youtu.be/OYSxveSBNvA?si=3ZFW7FjZpOU3OXYVYou’ll hear me reflect on how this concept has helped me as a musician, martial artist, herbalist, and someone who's lived with chronic Lyme disease for over 20 years. Whether you’re good at visualizing your goals—or you connect more through sound, feeling, or story—this episode offers a gentle invitation to tune your energy with intention. It’s just 7 minutes, but it might shift the way you see (or hear) your own story.New episodes every Tuesday at 8am. The Tsunami Effect with Eric Mitchell: How to Unleash the Life You’re Meant to Live
Over 20 years ago, I met Eric Mitchell when he came to train myself and my fellow Krav Maga instructors in speed and agility. From the very start, Eric’s uplifting spirit, contagious energy, and inspiring outlook left a lasting impact.Since then, Eric has dedicated his life to coaching aspiring young athletes to not only become faster, but to live fuller, more meaningful lives. Now, he's entering an exciting new chapter, finishing his first book The Tsunami Effect and launching a coaching program designed to help people transform from the inside out.In this powerful conversation, Eric shares his personal journey of transformation — and the lessons he's learned about believing in yourself, setting meaningful goals, and showing up fully for the life you're meant to live. This is the kind of conversation I dreamed of having when I first envisioned this podcast: a conversation filled with hope, heart, and practical wisdom for wherever you are on your path.May this episode inspire you to reconnect with your deepest vision — the one that calls to you from your heart.Stay in touch with Eric:➔ Instagram: @coachericmitchell➔ Website: coachericmitchell.comIG: @thought_experiment_called_life / @altarvioletTikTok: @thoughtexperimentcalled / @altarvioletmusicSong: 'Sit With It' by yours truly 'aka' ALTARVIOLEThttps://open.spotify.com/track/4IpdPIUVpXFMAFAQbivGZW?si=de4aed87c1e341e6NEW SPONSOR: In a world of copy-paste fashion, stand out with original designs from Bohead — art inspired by nature, surf, skate, and tattoo culture. The Thought Experiment That Rewrites Your Reality
Welcome to Thought Experiment Called Life. I’m Greta—musician, martial artist, herbalist, and your unofficial side-quest guide. This podcast was born from a deep desire to ask better questions, challenge the stories we tell ourselves, and rewrite the real-life algorithms that quietly run our days. I speak to the misfits, the multi-passionate, the chronically ill, the creatively alive, and the spiritually curious. In this episode, I want to share with you a simple but powerful thought experiment—one that might change the way you see your world. It’s a practice I’ve returned to again and again when I feel stuck or overwhelmed. It’s helped me get real about what I’m focusing on, and decide (sometimes painfully, sometimes playfully) whether I want to keep feeding those patterns—or choose something better. I hope it opens a little door for you, too.Thank you for being here.xo,GretaIG: @thought_experiment_called_life / @altarvioletTikTok: @thoughtexperimentcalled / @altarvioletmusicSong: 'Never Gonna Stop Me' by yours truly 'aka' ALTARVIOLEThttps://open.spotify.com/track/0nK5Obr3DpjXXKJNiftfsH?si=ac350933d4ee4893Try Audible for FREE 30 Days and see how your life changes! www.audibletrial.com/Xmd5z4 Hosted on Acast. Fear, Growth, and the Transition into Motherhood: Trusting the Journey with Erin Johnson Ries
"Fear is always there, but so is trust."This is one of those conversations that just keeps getting better.I’ve wanted to sit down with my friend and sister martial artist, Erin Reis, for a long time to hear more of her perspectives on life—on managing multiple passions, growing through life’s many chapters, and her path to motherhood, to name a few.Erin is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, co-owner of Iron Roots gym with her husband Dan, a former nurse who’s stayed connected to her healing roots through dry needling, and a soon-to-be mom. Her life is a powerful blend of strength, heart, and intuition. This one goes deep. Erin shares how fear and growth have walked hand in hand through every season of her life—from the mats to marriage, through cycles of control and surrender, and now into the wild unknowns of motherhood. She reflects on learning to trust herself, her body, and the timing of things far beyond her control.Whether you’re navigating a transition, rethinking your relationship to fear, or simply needing a reminder that you’re not alone—there’s something in here for you.Don’t miss this beautiful conversation about showing up, letting go, and finding power in vulnerability.xo,GretaCheck out Iron Roots here: https://ironrootsbjj.com/IG: @thought_experiment_called_life / @altarvioletTikTok: @thoughtexperimentcalled / @altarvioletmusicSong: 'On My Own' by yours truly 'aka' ALTARVIOLEThttps://open.spotify.com/album/5iKz9Pxn6cIKHBKHGjkgqj?si=CgUcIRPrQHuGS0jWIGBQkgTry Audible for FREE 30 Days and see how your life changes! www.audibletrial.com/Xmd5z4 Hosted on Acast. CKY's Jess Margera’s Take on Music, Life, and Creative Freedom
This week, I’m bringing you a special interview with one of my best friends, longtime confidants, and all-around incredible humans—Jess Margera. You might know him as the powerhouse drummer behind CKY, The Company Band, and Viking Skull, or from his appearances in the Jackass movies.I’ve been wanting to have Jess on the podcast for a while now, and for good reason. He’s built an unconventional career but remains one of the most grounded people I know, even in the unpredictable world of music. He’s always had this effortless way of staying true to his path, and I’ve admired that about him for as long as we’ve been friends. In this episode, we cover a range of topics—from his musical journey to some great stories from over the years. The audio has a few spotty moments (I’m still getting the hang of remote interviews!), but I’m embracing my own advice: dive in and do the thing instead of waiting for perfection. Jess will definitely be back for future episodes, so if you have any questions for him, drop them in the comments, and I’ll save them for next time!I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did. The 5 Herbs That Made Me a Believer in Plant Medicine
I fell in love with plant medicine after it helped me reclaim my health following years of merely surviving with Chronic Lyme disease. This powerful experience led me to earn a Master’s in Therapeutic Herbalism and Integrative Nutrition, so I could share the knowledge of how to use medicinal plants to support healing and empowerment. In this episode, I share five life-changing herbs that made me a true believer in the healing power of plants. While this is not medical advice, I hope it serves as a valuable resource on your own holistic health journey, guiding you toward better wellness and practitioners who align with this approach. For reference, here are the herbal brands and products I mention in the episode:Gaia Brand Ashwagandha Capsules Herb Pharm Motherwort TinctureGaia Brand Vitex (Chaste Tree / Chaste Berry) Gaia Brand Oil of Oregano aSquared Nutrition Resveratrol Other brands I mention are:Mary Ruths & Thorne Hosted on Acast.
