Throwback Therapy

Calling all Marvel lovers! For the second episode of our podcast, our group looks atanother franchise from our childhood and continuing, specifically the Marvel CinematicUniverse (MCU). We discuss phases one through six and take apart each phase offeringour thoughts and opinions on its success and pitfalls. Also, what was happening in the realworld during their 18 year period. So, if you are marvel fan, movie fan, or just a movie loverthis episode is a must hear.

For the first episode of our podcast, our group discusses global and intercultural fluency around children’s television shows from the early 2000s. We focused on finding TV shows we watched when we were younger that had themes like sexuality and gender as well as race and ethnicity. We ultimately chose to discuss how these themes appeared in the two shows, Steven Universe and The Proud Family, because our themes were very prominent within them. With Steven Universe, we discuss how the show was ahead of its time by showcasing same-gendered relationships and many LGBTQIA+ themes. We chose The Proud Family because it was one of the first mainstreamed kids cartoons that had black individuals as main characters in the forefront of the show. We discuss how these shows impacted us and influenced later shows to include more diverse topics and characters.
