Translation: Murder

This week Laura covers a Norwegian case that has been dubbed the "Norwegian Bow Attack", despite most of the attack not being perpetrated by a bow. This episode we talk about police response, and whether the perpetrator's mental health should have been taken more into account in order to avoid this spree killing.

Laura brings up a case of aggravated drunk driving in Finland. Petra gives an update about the Don Juan of Kishu case we discussed in Episode 6. Viktória discusses the János Vásárhelyi updates on child abuse scandal, and that János is now getting out of prison after serving an 8 year sentence. 

This week Viktória brings us a very timely case. With the Hungarian elections happening today, what better way to celebrate by discussing a bit of history of the Fidesz party. Of course we have tim have crime, so she also includes some of the deeds allegedly done by the notorious hitman and mafia guy Jozef Roháč on behalf of Fidesz. 

This week we have a news tangent where Petra covers another case of alleged child abuse by Finnish parents living abroad. Viktória brings some political cases involving Hungary, namely a raid on the Tisza Party, and leaked EU meeting discussions to Russia. Then Laura brings a shoplifting case from Finland.

This week Petra brings us another curry case. This time, no one ends up getting put in the curry though. Masumi Hayashi, a seemingly disgruntled woman allegedly poisons a pot of curry which is made for a street festival, and we are left to wonder what her actual motive was. Listen along, but maybe only if you're not eating Japanese curry. Note: Masumi's husband is a termite exterminator and not a rat exterminator, which is mentioned in the episode.

Petra brings us a Hungarian-Finnish crossover story about alleged child neglect. Viktória brings an update about new episodes of the Crypto Queen being out, and a missing person and car were just fished out of the Danube after being missing for 10 years. Laura over does it with three topics including female genital mutilation, Tennessee abortion bill, and the Alanya Market in Eastern Helsinki is facing a fine for not having labels translated.  

This week, Laura covers Finland’s only (convicted) female serial killer. It all starts to unravel for Aino Nykopp-Koski when an elderly woman claims that she was poisoned by her nurse. This leads detectives to uncover the other victims and attempted victims of this sinister nurse. 

This week, it’s all pretty depressing news. Viktória covers a Hungarian sexual assault case that will have you ranting about the injustice. Laura covers nine people in Finland who were sentenced to life in prison and will be released in 2026. Petra covers a case of a questionable death in a private nursing home in Finland. Listen to the end to hear a funny animal fact. 

A metal canister with human remains was found in the picturesque Lake Balaton in 1958. Due to some clues, the cops are led to the suspect Dr. Frigyes Susszer, who happens to have a 17 year old step-daughter, Jolán Tótpál, whose whereabouts are unknown.

This week we discuss a French case about a man allegedly drugging over 200 women to force them to urinate. Then, a possible case of wrongful imprisonment stemming from a murder case in Ulvila, Finland. Lastly, the case of a murdered 15 year old girl in Valkeakoksi, Finland in which the murderer asks for clemency. As a bonus segment we discuss the former Miss Finland, and racism in Finland.

This week Petra is a back, with a tale inspired by her recent trip. You know she’s promised to bring us an episode about a curry murder from Japan, but that’s not this episode. Instead, she brings the case about the mysterious disappearance and alleged murder of Ayakannu Marithamuthu in Singapore, that also seems to involve curry. 

This week Laura is taking us to Lichtenberg, Bavaria in Germany. This is a sad case of the disappearance and murder of Peggy Knobloch. This case has many unanswered questions, and sadly might never be answered because the police are no longer actively looking at this case. 

We have a news tangent stories this week. Laura brings a light-hearted case about Finnish honesty, and an act a man committed 57 years ago still weighs on him. Viktória brings a couple different cases, ranging from anger yet relief inducing (Ian Watkins) to a heist that’s been in the headlines (theft at the Louvre). This week Viktória brings us a case spanning France, Lithuania, and Hungary. The seemingly charismatic front man Bertrand Cantat of Noir Désir has a violent dark side, and what seemingly is a whirlwind love story, ends in the brutal murder of his girlfriend Marie Trintignant. But the death doesn’t end there, as years later after his release from prison, his ex-wife, Krisztina Rády, is found dead in their Bordeaux home. Listen along for a horrible tale of domestic violence, and the cover up to keep a famous frontman looking innocent. 

This week we’re discussing crime news. Laura brings the topic of police shootings in Finland; Petra brings a case of bodies being found in a freezer in Turku; and Viktória brings the breaking news (at least when this is recorded) about the “Yogurt Shop Murders” being solved after 34 years!

Petra is back this week! She brings us a 1990's case where a a woman goes to a shooting range in the center of Helsinki, and she ends up killing three people. We discuss topics such as mental health, and gun safety. Listen along, and let us know what you think.

This week Laura covers a case that was covered in Finnish and English. When an American Football player flies from Finland back home to South Carolina, he is arrested on the charge of murder. The authorities don’t believe him when he says he’s innocent, and he spends 67 days behind bars for a crime he didn’t commit.

This episode is a bit mild, and it doesn’t even include murder! Viktória covers Hungary’s online aggression law, and Laura covers the arrest of a psychic and the uncovering of an astrology scam in New York State. 

This week Viktória covers probably one of the worst cases yet. As promised in the early days of Translation Murder, Viktória said she would cover the panel building murders, and  honestly, I almost wish she hadn't, it’s bound leave you speechless, angry, sad, and disgusted. Listen along to hear about the Kohányi family tragedy. 

At the top, we go on a food tangent. We're baaaaaaack! After a bit of a break, Viktória is bringing us a fascinating case of an alleged poisoner in Slovakia. With many people around her falling ill with suspicious symptoms, Teréz Gyönyör is suspected of attempted poisonings of those closest to her. Listen along for the full story.

Christina Olofsson was working as a night receptionist at Hotel Wisby, and is found dead on the morning of December 13th 1996. This is a cold case, but evidence found at the scene could very well solve this murder.

After having a short history of violence towards each other, the violence ends up resulting in the death of Marko, and a prison sentence for Tero.
